  I'm using Nvidia 7300 gt and monitor-Acer V173w, on 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04. • Story of success: MySQL Enterprise Backup (MEB) was successfully integrated with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) via System Backup to Tape (SBT) interface.

  Since version 3.6 MEB supports backups to tape through the SBT interface.The officially supported tool for such backups to tape is Oracle Secure Backup (OSB).But there are a lot of other Storage Managers. MEB allows to use them through the SBT interface. Since version 3.7 it also has option --sbt-environment which allows to pass environment variables, not needed by OSB, to third-party managers. At the same time MEB can not guarantee it would work with all of them.This month we were contacted by a customer who wanted to use IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) with MEB. We could only say them same thing I wrote in previous paragraph: this solution is supposed to work, but you have to be pioneers of this technology. And they agreed. They agreed to be the pioneers and so the story begins.MEB requires following options to be specified by those who want to connect it to SBT interface:--sbt-database-name: a name which should be handed over to SBT interface. This can be any name. Default, MySQL, works for most cases, so user is not required to specify this option.--sbt-lib-path: path to SBT library. For TSM this library comes with "Data Protection for Oracle", which, in its turn, interfaces with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), which uses SBT interface. So you need to install it even if you don't use Oracle.--sbt-environment: environment for third-party manager. This option is not needed when you use OSB, but almost always necessary for third-party SBT managers. TSM requires variable TDPO_OPTFILE to be set and point to the TSM configuration file.--backup-image=sbt:: path to the image.   I have connected an external monitor to my laptop through HDMI. Currently either my Desktop is getting extended to the external monitor (with native resolution) or low resolution on both when I choose "Same Image in both". How can I ensure that the external monitor is used by default and the laptop monitor just blanks. • What platform to use for browser based turn based strategy game

  I want to write a browser based strategy game that can be played by two players in separate locations. The game itself is predominantly turn based. To that end, I want to determine the correct platform on which to build this game. To prevent gamers "gaming" the system, the business logic needs to reside in the server. I could arguably use AJAX for a large part of the games functionality, but at two key points in the game loop, the opposing player can "counter" the current players move. In addition, when it's time for the players to swap, AJAX polling is likely to fall short, so it's starting to look like WebSockets is going to be a requirement to pull this off smoothly. So, the remaining question is regarding the back end. I'd kinda like to build this in Python/Flask - but this is primarily out of wanting to tackle a project with that language, not neccessarily because it's the appropriate tool for the job. The next most likely candidate has got to be NodeJS given it's (apparently) tighter integration with the WebSockets protocol. My question, then, is regarding the best platform on which to pursue this objective.

• IBus client for GNU Emacs: Installed, but how do I start it?

  Having recently moved to Linux/Ubuntu, I'm looking for a good editor, and GNU Emacs seems to fit the bill. One thing I want from a text editor is the ability to handle Unicode Input Method Editors in a "normal way", across the board. For Ubuntu, the "normal way" is via IBus. However, emacs does not support IBus "off the shelf". I found a launchpad project: IBus client for GNU Emacs: ibus-el. I've installed ibus-el and set it up as per the Customize section of this emacswiki IBusMode page. I included the suggested "toggle" keybinding: ;; Use s-SPC to toggle input status It seems to have installed okay, but I have no idea how to invoke IBus and switch IMEs. s-SPC doesn't fire up the IBus language panel... • Using XSLT for messaging instead of marshalling/unmarshalling Java message objects

  So far I have been using either handmade or generated (e.g. JAXB) Java objects as 'carriers' for messages in message processing software such as protocol converters. This often leads to tedious programming, such as copying/converting data from one system's message object to an instance of another's system message object. And it sure brings in lots of Java code with getters and setters for each message attribute, validation code, etc. I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to convert one system's XML message into another system's format - or even convert requests into responses from the same system - using XSLT. This would mean I would no longer have to unmarshall XML streams to Java objects, copy/convert data using Java and marshall the resulting message object to another XML stream. Since each message may actually have a purpose I would 'link' the message (and the payload it contains in its properties or XML elements/attributes) to EXSLT functions. This would change my design approach from an imperative to a declarative style. Has anyone done this before and, if so, what are your experiences? Does the reduced amount of Java 'boiler plate' code weigh up to the increased complexity of (E)XSLT?

• Config import on network-manager-openvpn

  I'm trying to use a free service using the OpenVPN protocol using OpenVPN's GUI module in the network manager. The config worked perfectly well as .ovpn on Windows. The behavior in Windows is such that I ran OpenVPN GUI and chose to connect to this particular VPN. It would then show the activity in the attempt to connect and opens a dialog box for username/password authentication. I've successfully imported all the configurations by changing the file type to .conf and using the import feature in network manager. However, attempting to connect would simply display the network manager's attempting to connect animation, but ultimately end with a notification of connection timing out. • Why is a small fixed vocabulary seen as an advantage to RESTful services?

  So, a RESTful service has a fixed set of verbs in its vocabulary. A RESTful web service takes these from the HTTP methods. There are some supposed advantages to defining a fixed vocabulary, but I don't really grasp the point. Maybe someone can explain it. Why is a fixed vocabulary as outlined by REST better than dynamically defining a vocabulary for each state? For example, object oriented programming is a popular paradigm. RPC is described to define fixed interfaces, but I don't know why people assume that RPC is limited by these contraints. We could dynamically specify the interface just as a RESTful service dynamically describes its content structure. REST is supposed to be advantageous in that it can grow without extending the vocabulary. RESTful services grow dynamically by adding more resources. What's so wrong about extending a service by dynamically specifying a per-object vocabulary? Why don't we just use the methods that are defined on our objects as the vocabulary and have our services describe to the client what these methods are and whether or not they have side effects? Essentially I get the feeling that the description of a server side resource structure is equivalent to the definition of a vocabulary, but we are then forced to use the limited vocabulary in which to interact with these resources. Does a fixed vocabulary really decouple the concerns of the client from the concerns of the server? I surely have to be concerned with some configuration of the server, this is normally resource location in RESTful services. To complain at the use of a dynamic vocabulary seems unfair because we have to dynamically reason how to understand this configuration in some way anyway. A RESTful service describes the transitions you are able to make by identifying object structure through hypermedia. I just don't understand what makes a fixed vocabulary any better than any self-describing dynamic vocabulary, which could easily work very well in an RPC-like service. Is this just a poor reasoning for the limiting vocabulary of the HTTP protocol?

• The Differences between MAC Address and Network Layer Address

  A Mac address is a fixed number associated with a NICs onboard memory. It is initially assigned at the factory. The MAC address is broken up into 2 parts. The first part is the Block id which is six digit sequences that is unique to each vender. The second section is the device id which is created and assigned by the manufacture. A Network layer address is different because there format based on the type of protocol and network used. Also, there unique id is based on a hierarchal addressing theme on subsets of data  and narrowing it down. Just like in an address you can narrow down your house, for example: Florida, Boca Raton, 33428, SW 53th street states that you live in Florida. You also live in the area located in Florida called Boca Raton and you are also in the area of 33428 which is located in Boca Raton. Finally you live on SW 8th street which is in the area of 33428 which is located in Boca Raton which is also located in Florida.

• How to run an Application as another user?

  I use krusader for file management stuff. the problem is that apache's DocumentRoot should be under chown www-data:www-data /path/to/www. so using krusader (which is run under my account) I've not write access to /path/to/www while I really need. I don't know how other developers can continue doing things with such a restriction! I wondered if I could run krusader as www-data then I will be able to easily play with files. but using su - www-data asked me for www-data's password!! So, how can I run an application (like krusader) as another user (like www-data) in Gnome? or is there any other solution for my case? (tough I'm really curious to know the answer!) keep in mind that I know I can run it as root! but this will cause some permission problems when using cp and mkdir, you know. PS: sudo and gksudo did not help: $ gksudo -u -www-data krusader No protocol specified krusader: cannot connect to X server :0.0 Final Note: according the best answer, i did chmod u+w /path/to/www and my problem solved. but i still has not been succeeded in opening krusader as another user!

• Search network device from LAN through my C++ application and change the IP address

  I am developing an application in C++ to communicate with my network device. I used UDP classes to search the device from the network. I done the code in such a way that from my application a broadcast message will send to the local network. The device will respond to the broadcast message and the application will get the IP address from that response. After establishing a network communication send a message to the device for changing the IP address. That worked fine if my devices IP address is correct. But when I set a wrong IP address and subnet to the device. My application will never get any messages from the device. So I can't able communicate to the device and not able get the device and unable to change the IP address etc. Say example IP address of the device 20.1.1.1 Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0 And in my system that runs the application IP address 192.168.1.23 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 I tried the Lantronix device installation software with their Lantronix device in network. It listed the device from the network and I am able to change the IP address from their software. Any one know how this is done in this type of software? How I can search in network to find the device and change the IP address when its IP address is not in range? Which protocol they used to find the device?

But I tried this, which is I installed windows xp on virtual box. Vbox showed me thow unknow USB devices. I connected them and installed windows bluethooth drivers to xp. But it didn't ditected Bluethooth either. Also, when I set off mode in hardware switch, those unknown devices disappear from Vbox usb device seletcion menu. So, they are definitely something to do with wifi or bluethooth. Please help me..

• Nvidia dual monitor configuration gets lost every time I reboot

  I've recently updated (well, borked then completely reinstalled) to 12.04. I'm running a dual monitor setup, with a Dell U2410 / Dell 2007WFP combination on an HP Elite Book 8560W. The graphics card is an NVIDIA GF108 [Quadro 1000M]. My problem is as follows. I can get the dual monitor setup working fine, but every time I reboot, my machine appears to lose the settings (specifically, the U2410 is disabled, the mouse pointer is locked in the launcher). I have to restate the settings after every launch. I've tried running nvidia-settings as sudo, I've save the changes to my xorg.conf file (see below) but nothing seems to be sticking. Has anyone had similair issues, or know of a fix? • EPM Architecture: Reporting and Analysis

  Reporting and Analysis is the basis for all Oracle EPM reporting components. Through the Java based Reporting and Analysis web application deployed on WebLogic, it enables users to browse through reports for all kind of Oracle EPM reporting components. Typical users access the web application by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS). Reporting and Analysis Web application talks to the Reporting and Analysis Agent using CORBA protocol on various ports. All communication to the repository databases (EPM System Registry and Reporting and Analysis database) from web and application layer is done using JDBC. As an additional data store, the Reporting and Analysis Agent uses the file system to lay down individual reports. While the reporting artifacts are stored on the file system, the folder structure and report based security information is stored in the relational database. The file system can be either local or remote (e.g. network share, network file system). If an external user directory is used, Reporting and Analysis services also communicate to this directory. • Cannot Connect Modem ( /dev/ttySL0 ) Using gnome-ppp - Dial-Up Connection

  I'm trying to connect my Toshiba Satellite running Ubuntu 10.04 to my Eris running Android 2.1 through a Bluetooth connection and establish a dial-up connection (DUN) with the modem. I can connect my phone to my laptop, and I can detect my modem (after installing drivers), which is located at /dev/ttySL0. But when I launch gnome-ppp and enter my phone number (123 for PDA-Net) I get a dialog that says "Connecting... Sending Password" with Log and Cancel buttons. The log shows this: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Please enter password (or empty password to stop): --> Configuration does not specify a valid login name. The PDA-Net DUN protocol is running and shows no error. Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

  Recently I was getting error when I am calling web service using Java script. I searching on net and debugging I have found following things. Any web service support three kinds of protocol HttpGet,HttpPost and SOAP. In framework 1.0 it was enabled by default but after 1.0 framework it will not be enabled by default due to security issues and WS-Specifications.
