  • Get items selected from another form

    Hi I have a Windows Form application. I have a Textbox. I want to implement a functionality like when the user clicks on the textbox, a list should be made available to the user and then the item selected from the list should be filled in the textbox. The list should not be available if some other control is focussed other than the textbox. What would be the better way to do this? Should I implement the list in the same form as the textbox or should I use another form for the list? I want to implement a functionality like in the Tally Accounting Software.

  • Several different project types in solution use same class. Where can I place this class?

    I have one solution with 3 related projects: 1) a Windows console app that reads data and stores it to a mssql DB, 2) WCF service that will retrieve from mssql data, 3) website that will read from the WCF. There could be other projects in the future. The first two projects (and any related future projects) use a Sqlhelper class. Should I create a separate project for it? The most ideal one would be a class library, but I don't know if a WCF invoking a DLL is correct. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When installing the second time I'd like that the ancient value will not be overridden. 1) What kind of "Condition" should I set in the setup properties of ServerIp registry key. 2) Is it possible to recuperate the ancient value from registry and display it in the "ServerIp" textBox in the installer dialog box? In this case the override could be unconditional.

  • How to find out where my memory is going

    I've got the situation where the cycle of loading and then closing a document eats up a few Mb of RAM. This memory isn't being leaked as something owns it and cleans it up when the app exits (Visual Leak Detector and the Mac Leaks tool show agreement on this). However, I'd like to find out where it's going. I'm assuming it's some sort of cache in the application that gets populated when the document loads but not freed when the document is closed. Which methods or tools could I use to find out where these allocations are being made?

  • How to find the real problem line in my code with Application Verifier ?

    I am now trying to use this Application Verifier debugging tool, but i am stuck, first of all: it breaks the program at a line that is simple variable set line (s = 1; for example) Secondly, now when i run this program under debugger, my program seems to have changed its behaviour: i am drawing image, and now one of the colors has changed o_O, all those parts of the image that i dont draw on, has changed the color to #CDCDCD when it should be #000000, and i already set the default color to zero, still it becomes to #CDCDCD. How do i make any sense to this? Here is the output AV gave me: VERIFIER STOP 00000002: pid 0x8C0: Access violation exception. 14873000 : Invalid address causing the exception 004E422C : Code address executing the invalid access 0012EB08 : Exception record 0012EB24 : Context record AVRF: Noncontinuable verifier stop 00000002 encountered.     Alright I'm currently lost on a particular assignment I have for a class. I've seen many examples of this app but none of them see to help my problem is as follows: Write a Sub procedure "DisplaySquare" to display the solid square. The size should be specified by the integer parameter "size". The character that fills the square should be specified by the string parameter "fillCharacter. Use a For...Next statement nested within another For...Next statement to create the square. The outer For...Next specifies what row is currently being displayed. The inner For...Next appends all the characters that form the row to a display string. So it should come out like as follows: if a user enters "8" and "#" ######## ######## ######## ######## ######## ######## ######## ######## Any help would be appreciated.

  • Are there any good version control programs for a Windows box that do not have to be installed?

    On my work machine, I do not have the permissions to install anything, and astoundingly, there are not any version control software packages set up. I am using VS2008, and was hoping to work around depending on SourceSafe. I've talked to the network admin, and all I could get was "We don't have any version control set up." Are there any good ways of going about this, or do I have to just bite the bullet?

    I am working on some old web forms application. When I changed from design to view source of the aspx page, the aspx markup becomes disarranged. For example, a label is written as follows: <asp:label id="Label20" style="Z-INDEX: 119; LEFT: 16px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 424px" runat="server" Height="24px" Width="72px">Instructions:</asp:label> It suddenly becomes like this (when I toggle from design to source) <asp:label id="Label20" style="Z-INDEX: 119; LEFT: 16px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 424px" runat="server" Height="24px" Width="72px">Instructions:</asp:label> Notice that the alignment and margins, tab stops are changed. Any idea how to prevent VS from doing this? Thanks.

    In VS2005 I have multi-project solution. Two of the projects use an external set of DLLs to create a report, using report definition data taken from an SQL Server. One of the projects creates the report just fine, but the other project results in an Exception. I have checked that the projects are referencing the same versions of the all the DLLs and they appear to be identical. What could the cause of this problem?

My resolution that I am working on is 1024x768..but the computer that I am going to be running this program on is a wide screen..1280x768. I try to change it in properties but it keeps defaulting back to 1036x760.

  • How to set AssemblyInfo.cs based on the tfs project build number?

    The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it. I don't know if that makes any sense as this is my first time working on .Net

    Since this question seems to have baffled / underwhelmed SO I will rephrase it with a partially formed idea of my own. Could I somehow set up a batch file or something that runs after the whole solution is built, and this batch file would call msbuild to build specific targets inside a certain project? In order for it to work, I would have to somehow force msbuild build the target without regard to whether it thinks it's "up to date", because that is the core issue I'm butting up against.

    I have the following entity model public class Employee { public int Employee ID{get;set;} public string employeename{get;set;} public datetime employeeDOb{get;set;} public datetime? employeeDateOfJoin{get;set;} public string empFamilyname{get;set;} public datetime empFamilyDob{get;set;} } here I have to design a view for collecting employee information and employee family information. Since I am working on already available data, where in empFamilyDob was not mandatory. But now it is being made mandatory, the previous data doesn't contain EmpFamilyDob. So naturally I have added this new property EmpFamilyDob to the Model and made it required through DataAnnotations. Now there are two set of views to be developed. 1. A view which simply allows to collect the employee information without employee family information. i.e, empFamilyName and EmpFamilyDob.--This view is used by the Hr section to insert empplyee details Since the empFamilyname and EmpFamilyDob being now made mandatory, some other section will edit the data and update the EmpFamilyName and EmpFamilyDob as and when the information about employee family details are received. I have action controller for CreateNew and Edit Which is being generated by using the default model. There are two user actions being performed. 1.When the user clicks the Create new -- he will be able to update only the Employee information 2.As and when the other section receives the employee family details they update the familyname and family date of birth. i.e, EmployeeFamilyname and EmployeFamilyDob. While creating new record the uses should be able to update employee information only and while editing the information he should be able to update the employeefamily information. Since I have a single view with most of these fields as required and not allowing null , How can I achieve this in a sincle view? I have recorrected the model like this public class Employee { public int Employee ID{get;set;} public string employeename{get;set;} public datetime employeeDOb{get;set;} public datetime? employeeDateOfJoin{get;set;} public string empFamilyname{get;set;} public datetime? empFamilyDob{get;set;} } Now by default I hope the createnew action would insert null value for empFamilyname(string datatype) and empFamilyDob . In the Edit action the user should be made to enter empFamilyname and empFamilyDob(mandatory). As there is every chance that the user might edit other information about the employee(like employeeDob) I don't want to go for partial views. Can you help me out with some illustration.     I've been playing around with the structure of my project, and I'd like to reset the namespaces of my classes to what the default would be. That is, the default namespace for the project, plus each of the folders in the hierarchy. It's not as simple as just find + replace, since I've both added and renamed some folders, and files from some namespaces were split into multiple other namespaces. I'm using VS 2010.
