  Hi, I have small web app that generate PDF files as a report. I'm trying to delete those generated PDF files after 10 sec that they are generated. What I want to do is to read a folder with PDF files every 10 sec, and delete all the PDF files inside that folder. I read this post of Easy Background Tasks in ASP.NET. The following code is the VB version. • OpenGL-ES Texture Atlas. t axis is inverted.

  I'm mapping a texture from my texture atlas to a square on a cube. For some reason, the t axis is inverted with 0 being at the top and 1 being at the bottom. Also, I have to specify the texture coordinates in clockwise order rather than counter-clockwise. I am using counter-clockwise windings. • Why does my REST request return garbage data?

  I am trying to use LWP::Simple to make a GET request to a REST service. Here's the simple code: use LWP::Simple; $uri = "http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/questions/tagged/php"; $jsonresponse= get $uri; print $jsonresponse; On my local machine, running Ubuntu 10.4, and Perl version 5.10.1: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ perl --version This is perl, v5.10.1 (*) built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi I can get the correct response and have it printed on the screen. E.g.: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ head -10 output.txt { "total": 1000, "page": 1, "pagesize": 30, "questions": [ { "tags": [ "php", "arrays", "coding-style" (... snipped ...) But on my host's machine to which I SSH into, I get garbage printed on the screen for the same exact code. I am assuming it has something to do with the encoding, but the REST service does not return the character set type in the response, so how do I force LWP::Simple to use the correct encoding? • SQL 2005 indexed queries slower than unindexed queries

  Adding a seemingly perfectly index is having an unexpectedly adverse affect on a query performance... -- [Data] has a predictable structure and a simple clustered index of the primary key: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Data] ADD PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ) -- My query, joins on itself looking for a certain kind of "overlapping" records SELECT DISTINCT [Data].ID AS [ID] FROM dbo.[Data] AS [Data] JOIN dbo.[Data] AS [Compared] ON [Data].[A] = [Compared].[A] AND [Data].[B] = [Compared].[B] AND [Data].[C] = [Compared].[C] AND ([Data].[D] = [Compared].[D] OR [Data].[E] = [Compared].[E]) AND [Data].[F] <> [Compared].[F] WHERE 1=1 AND [Data].[A] = @A AND @CS <= [Data].[C] AND [Data].[C] < @CE -- Between a range [Data] has about a quarter-million records so far, 10% to 50% of the data satisfies the where clause depending on @A, @CS, and @CE. As is, the query takes 1 second to return about 300 rows when querying 10%, and 30 seconds to return 3000 rows when querying 50% of the data. Curiously, the estimated/actual execution plan indicates two parallel Clustered Index Scans, but the clustered index is only of the ID, which isn't part of the conditions of the query, only the output. ?? If I add this hand-crafted [IDX_A_B_C_D_E_F] index which I fully expected to improve performance, the query slows down by a factor of 8 (8 seconds for 10% & 4 minutes for 50%). The estimated/actual execution plans show an Index Seek, which seems like the right thing to be doing, but why so slow?? CREATE UNIQUE INDEX [IDX_A_B_C_D_E_F] ON [dbo].[Data] ([A], [B], [C], [D], [E], [F]) INCLUDE ([ID], [X], [Y], [Z]); The Data Engine Tuning wizard suggests a similar index with no noticeable difference in performance from this one. Moving AND [Data].[F] <> [Compared].[F] from the join condition to the where clause makes no difference in performance. I need these and other indexes for other queries. I'm sure I could hint that the query should refer to the Clustered Index, since that's currently winning - but we all know it is not as optimized as it could be, and without a proper index, I can expect the performance will get much worse with additional data. What gives?

  I have a DataTemplate which contains a CheckBox and ListBox. When the CheckBox is checked, I want to change the ItemTemplate property on the ListBox to change the appearance of each item. • Sharing large objects between ruby processes without a performance hit

  I have a Ruby hash that reaches approximately 10 megabytes if written to a file using Marshal.dump. After gzip compression it is approximately 500 kilobytes. Iterating through and altering this hash is very fast in ruby (fractions of a millisecond). Even copying it is extremely fast. The problem is that I need to share the data in this hash between Ruby on Rails processes. In order to do this using the Rails cache (file_store or memcached) I need to Marshal.dump the file first, however this incurs a 1000 millisecond delay when serializing the file and a 400 millisecond delay when serializing it. Ideally I would want to be able to save and load this hash from each process in under 100 milliseconds. One idea is to spawn a new Ruby process to hold this hash that provides an API to the other processes to modify or process the data within it, but I want to avoid doing this unless I'm certain that there are no other ways to share this object quickly. Is there a way I can more directly share this hash between processes without needing to serialize or deserialize it?   Please don't crucify me for this one. I decided it might be good to use a char* because the string I intended to build was of a known size. I am also aware that if timeinfo-tm_hour returns something other than 2 digits, things are going to go badly wrong.   Hi. I have different types of data that I have normalized just with base10, so everything is on a 10 point scale. There are two data points, and the legend for them show up fine. All the points around the radar show up fine and so do the labels for them, but I don't see any filled in data. Outside of the labels and axis, the chart is blank. Below is the actual image tag I render, then I split up the variables on each line for easy readability. Apple's avTouch sample application was a great start. But I want my app to play all the 10 tracks one by one. All the songs are added to resources folder and are named as track1, track2...track10. I'll generalize my problem: Let's say I have 3 employees (don't worry about them quitting or anything...there's always 3), and I keep up with how I distribute their salaries on a monthly basis. Month Employee PercentOfTotal -------------------------------- 1 Alice 25% 1 Barbara 65% 1 Claire 10% 2 Alice 25% 2 Barbara 50% 2 Claire 25% 3 Alice 25% 3 Barbara 65% 3 Claire 10% As you can see, I've paid them the same percent in Months 1 and 3, but in Month 2, I've given Alice the same 25%, but Barbara got 50% and Claire got 25%. What I want to know is all the distinct distributions I've ever given. In this case there would be two -- one for months 1 and 3, and one for month 2. I'd expect the results to look something like this (NOTE: the ID, or sequencer, or whatever, doesn't matter) ID Employee PercentOfTotal -------------------------------- X Alice 25% X Barbara 65% X Claire 10% Y Alice 25% Y Barbara 50% Y Claire 25% Seems easy, right? I'm stumped! Anyone have an elegant solution? I just put together this solution while writing this question, which seems to work, but I'm wondering if there's a better way. Or maybe a different way from which I'll learn something.   I have a bidding table, as follows: SellID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES SellItem(SellID), CusID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES Customer(CusID), Amount FLOAT NOT NULL, BidTime DATETIME DEFAULT getdate() Now in my website I need to show the user the current bids; only the highest bid but without repeating the same user. SELECT CusID, Max(Amount) FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC This is the best I have achieved so far. This gives the CusID of each user with the maximum bid and it is ordered ascending. But I need to get the BidTime for each result as well. When I try to put the BidTime in to the query: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC I am told that "Column 'Bid.BidTime' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause." Thus I tried: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID, BidTime ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC But this returns all the rows. No distinction. Any suggestions on solving this issue?

• Generalizing Fibonacci sequeue with SICStus Prolog

  I'm trying to find a solution for a query on a generalized Fibonacci sequence (GFS). The query is: are there any GFS that have 885 as their 12th number? The initial 2 numbers may be restricted between 1 and 10. I already found the solution to find the Nth number in a sequence that starts at (1, 1) in which I explicitly define the initial numbers. Here is what I have for this: fib(1, 1). fib(2, 1). fib(N, X) :- N #> 1, Nmin1 #= N - 1, Nmin2 #= N - 2, fib(Nmin1, Xmin1), fib(Nmin2, Xmin2), X #= Xmin1 + Xmin2. For the query mentioned I thought the following would do the trick, in which I reuse the fib method without defining the initial numbers explicitly since this now needs to be done dynamically: fib2 :- X1 in 1..10, X2 in 1..10, fib(1, X1), fib(2, X2), fib(12, 885). ... but this does not seem to work. Is it not possible this way to define the initial numbers, or am I doing something terribly wrong? I'm not asking for the solution, but any advice that could help me solve this would be greatly appreciated.

• Function within function in R

  Can you please explain to me why th code complain saying that Samdat is not found? I am trying to switch between the models as you can see, so i declared a functions that contains these specific models and I just need to call these function as one of the argument in the get.f function where the resampling will change the structure for each design matrix in the model. the code complain the Samdat is not found when it is found.
