• Does jquery live slow down websites?

  Hi I have a problem I am using jquery U.I tabs that load everything with ajax. Now I have it right now everytime you click on a tab a partial view is loaded up into that tab. Now in this partial view their are javascript files that use jquery to bind all the events that are needed in that tab plus some jquery plugins I am using. Now every time that tab is loaded up all those scripts are loaded up. If it is clicked 10 times then those scripts are loaded 10times up meaing now each of say my buttons will now have 10 of the same events on it mean if someone clicks on that button 10 events will all fire off to and do the same thing. So I need to find some solution to either move all the script out and have it on the main page and use jquery.live or some other solution. I tried to do use jquery caching for the U.I tabs but this won't work since some things in say Tab A when changed effect Tab B meaning I need Tab B to be reloaded but the scripts can't reload otherwise I run into the same problem as now.

• Deleting unneeded rows from a table with 2 criteria

  Hello. I have a many-to-many relations table and I need to DELETE the unneeded rows. The lastviews table's structure is: | user (int) | document (int) | time (datetime) | This table logs the last users which viewed the document. (user, document) is unique. I show only the last 10 views of a document and until now I deleted the unneeded like this: DELETE FROM `lastviews` WHERE `document` = ? AND `user` NOT IN (SELECT * FROM (SELECT `user` FROM `lastviews` WHERE `document` = ? ORDER BY `time` DESC LIMIT 10) AS TAB) However, now I need to also show the last 5 documents a user has viewed. This means I can no longer delete rows using the previous query because it might delete information I need (say a user didn't view documents in 5 minutes and the rows are deleted) To sum up, I need to delete all the records that don't fit these 2 criterias: SELECT ... FROM `lastviews` WHERE `document` = ? ORDER BY `time` DESC LIMIT 10 and SELECT * FROM `lastviews` WHERE `user` = ? ORDER BY `time` DESC LIMIT 0, 5 I need the logic. Thanks in advance.

• Append to the end of a Char array in C++

  Is there a command that can append one array of char onto another? Something that would theoretically work like this: //array1 has already been set to "The dog jumps " //array2 has already been set to "over the log" append(array2,array1); cout << array1; //would output "The dog jumps over the log"; This is a pretty easy function to make I would think, I am just surprised there isn't a built in command for it. *Edit I should have been more clear, I didn't mean changing the size of the array. If array1 was set to 50 characters, but was only using 10 of them, you would still have 40 characters to work with. I was thinking an automatic command that would essentially do: //assuming array1 has 10 characters but was declared with 25 and array2 has 5 characters int i=10; int z=0; do{ array1[i] = array2[z]; ++i; ++z; }while(array[z] != '\0'); I am pretty sure that syntax would work, or something similar.

  I need to group a set of rows based on the Category column, and also limit the combined rows based on the SUM(Number) column to be less than or equal to the @Limit value. For each distinct Category column I need to identify "buckets" that are <=@limit. If the SUM(Number) of all the rows for a Category column are <=@Limit then there will be only 1 bucket for that Category value (like 'CCCC' in the sample data). However if the SUM(Number)@limit, then there will be multiple bucket rows for that Category value (like 'AAAA' in the sample data), and each bucket must be <=@Limit. There can be as many buckets as necessary. Also, look at Category value 'DDDD', its one row is greater than @Limit all by itself, and gets split into two rows in the result set. • What rules govern the copying of variables in Javascript closures?

  I'd just like to check my understanding of variable copying in Javascript. From what I gather, variables are passed/assigned by reference unless you explicitly tell them to create a copy with the new operator. But I'm a little uncertain when it comes to using closures. Say I have the following code: var myArray = [1, 5, 10, 15, 20]; var fnlist = []; for (var i in myArray) { var data = myArray[i]; fnlist.push(function() { var x = data; console.log(x); }); } fnlist[2](); // returns 20 I gather that this is because fnlist[2] only looks up the value of data at the point where it is invoked. So I tried an alternative tack: var myArray = [1, 5, 10, 15, 20]; var fnlist = []; for (var i in myArray) { var data = myArray[i]; fnlist.push(function() { var x = data; return function() { console.log(x); } }()); } fnlist[2](); // returns 10 So now it returns the 'correct' value. Am I right to say that it works because a function resolves all variable references to their 'constant' values when it is invoked? Or is there a better way to explain it? Any explanations / links to explanations regarding this referencing / copying business would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

• loop prematurely quitting

  This loop works fine but prematurely quits at times. I set a piece of code in it so that I can view the random number. It only closes prematurely when the random number is equal to the highest numbered question the user inputs (Example...a user wants 10 questions, if the random number is 10 the program quits.)   I have installed JsUnit and a test case as follows: /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/testRunner.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/myTests/lineTestAbs.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/lineTestAbs.html When I open the test runner in a browser as a file, and test lineTestAbs.html from the jsunit/myTests directory, it passes. When I test the same file from the JavaScript directory, the test runner times out, asking if the file exists or is a test page. Questions: Am I doing something wrong here, or is this the expected behavior? Is it possible to put test cases in a different directory structure, and if so what is the proper path reference to to JsUnitCore.js? • ActionScripting Issue: adding/removing children

  I have three movie clips all linked to the stage and I want them to behave like a button/ But I am not using a button because I have not found a way to have each part (up, over, down, hit) be animated and not just change when the mouse is in use with it. So far I have been able to have all three appear on my stage and show when I have the mouse over and as well when I click, but I think I'm doing something wrong with removeChild. Each MC should appear one at a time and now all three show up when I hover over and seem to "flash". • How to move positions within an array?

  A program that simply moves array elements. Two variables: userInputVariable and blankSpaceVariable. I have a 2D array named table. Defined as table[userInputVariable + 1][6] I am printing out this array in a table format, and the far left column is numbered by whatever number the user entered at the beginning of the program. I then ask the user where they would like to enter a blank space within the array. This blank space acts like a divider for all the other information in the array. For example, if the user enters 10 at the start for the userInputVariable, and then enters 5 for the blank space. Once printed, the numbers should go like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, --, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. My plan has been to create a for loop and try to move all the numbers in the array back a position starting from the blank space variable. What I currently have, but does not work: for (int i = blankSpaceVariable; i < table.length - 1; i++) { table[i] = table[i + 1]; } table[blankSpaceVariable] = "--"; With my current code, the numbers go like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Tried completing this a few different ways also, but the other info within my 2D array didn't move with the numbers. So I thought that this approach can hopefully move all the info within my 2D array down, and make way for a blank section. All help is greatly appreciated!

  Hi, I'm doing the first chapter exercises on my Java book and I have been stuck for a problem for a while now. I'll print the question, prompt/read a double value representing a monetary amount. Then determine the fewest number of each bill and coin needed to represent that amount, starting with the highest (assume that a ten dollar bill is the maximum size needed). For example, if the value entered is 47,63 (forty-seven dollars and sixty-three cents), and the program should print the equivalent amount as: 4 ten dollar bills 1 five dollar bills 2 one dollar bills 2 quarters 1 dimes 0 nickels 3 pennies" etc. I'm doing an example exactly as they said in order to get an idea, as you will see in the code. Nevertheless, I managed to print 4 dollars, and I can't figure out how to get "1 five dollar", only 7 dollars (see code). Please, don't do the whole code for me. I just need some advice in regards to what I said.   Hey guys I am trying to return the latest 10 results of a query from a php file, through json format, to a jquery getjson function that prints results. I am getting weird problems though. For example I am only getting 8 entries returned, and some are disordered, and sometimes nothing is returned. Write a function named isIsolated that returns 1 if its argument is an isolated number, it returns 0 if its not an isolated number and it returns -1 if it cannot determine whether it is isolated or not (see the note below). The function signature is: int isIsolated(long n) Note that the type of the input parameter is long. The maximum positive number that can be represented as a long is 63 bits long. This allows us to test numbers up to 2,097,151 because the cube of 2,097,151 can be represented as a long. • How can I get a default value in some instances but not others?

  I am making an iPhone app and want to use an 'if' statement and a boolean to set default values in some instances but not others... is this possible? Are there alternative options if it is not possible? In the MainViewController.m I have: @interface MainViewController (){ BOOL moveOver; } [...] - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; _label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%i", computerSpeed]; } } [...] - (void)flipsideViewControllerDidFinish:(FlipsideViewController *)controller { [self dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:nil]; moveOver = true; } The problem that it is redefined when the ViewDidLoad runs... I need a statement that will not redefine when the ViewDidLoad runs. I have something that I feel like is much closer to working... In the ViewDidLoad I have: if (playToInt != 10 || computerMoveSpeed != 3) { moveOver = TRUE; } which connects to my created method, gameLoop. It has if (moveOver == false) { computerMoveSpeed = 3; playToInt = 10; } I have tried putting the code in the gameLoop into the ViewDidLoad, but it had the same effect. When moveOver was false, the computerMoveSpeed and the playToInt were both seemingly 0. I have two UITextFields and typed 10 and 3 in them... does this not set it to the default? It seems to set the default to 0 for both, how do I change this? THIS IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE THAN THE THREE BOOLEAN VALUES QUESTION

• Sort MySQL query result by a alphanumeric field

  I'm querying a table in a db using php. one of the fields is a column called "rank" and has data like the following: none 1-bronze 2-silver 3-gold ... 10-ambassador 11-president I want to be able to sort the results based on that "rank" column. any results where the field is "none" get excluded, so those don't factor in. As you can already guess, right now the results are coming back like this: 1-bronze 10-ambassador 11-president 2-silver 3-gold Of course, I would like for it to be sorted so it is like the following: 1-bronze 2-silver 3-gold ... 10-ambassador 11-president Right now the query is being returned as an object. I've tried different sort options like natsort, sort, array_multisort but haven't got it to work the way I'm sure it can. I would prefer keeping the results in an object form if possible. I'm passing the data on to a view in the next step. although, it's perfectly acceptable to pass the object to the view and then do the work there. so it's not an issue after all. :) thank you for your help. i'm hoping I'm making sense.

  I'm trying to update a table to remove all but the first instance of a group. Basically, I have a table with vehicle data related to an insurance policy. Each policy should only have one power_unit. Everything else should be a towed unit. Unfortunately, a bug has been duplicating power units, and now I need to clean this up. There are ~10k records in the database, and ~4k of them have doubled up power units. • SQL Server: Why use shorter VARCHAR(n) fields?

  It is frequently advised to choose database field sizes to be as narrow as possible. I am wondering to what degree this applies to SQL Server 2005 VARCHAR columns: Storing 10-letter English words in a VARCHAR(255) field will not take up more storage than in a VARCHAR(10) field. Are there other reasons to restrict the size of VARCHAR fields to stick as closely as possible to the size of the data? I'm thinking of Performance: Is there an advantage to using a smaller n when selecting, filtering and sorting on the data? Memory, including on the application side (C++)? Style/validation: How important do you consider restricting colunm size to force non-sensical data imports to fail (such as 200-character surnames)? Anything else? Background: I help data integrators with the design of data flows into a database-backed system. They have to use an API that restricts their choice of data types. For character data, only VARCHAR(n) with n <= 255 is available; CHAR, NCHAR, NVARCHAR and TEXT are not. We're trying to lay down some "good practices" rules, and the question has come up if there is a real detriment to using VARCHAR(255) even for data where real maximum sizes will never exceed 30 bytes or so. Typical data volumes for one table are 1-10 Mio records with up to 150 attributes. Query performance (SELECT, with frequently extensive WHERE clauses) and application-side retrieval performance are paramount.

  Hello, Actually this tread is continuing from the other one. There wasn't enough characters to continue there. Anyway. the problem is that the output is "1(10) 2(23) 3(29)". Even though I could return string for the array values (10,23,29) and used string reference as 1, 2 and 3. My question is it possible to return index values 1,2,3 and as well as array values. Am I making an sense.
