• Java preferences API throughput

  I'm using Java Preferences API to store window position and size of Swing application. At this moment, I'm listening to window resize/reposition events and storing the position and size every time they change. However, that means that if user slowly resizes window which is 200px wide to 400px wide, I'll probably write new window size about 200 times during pretty short time. Preferences API uses whichever datastore is available on the host system (windows registry for Windows etc.) - but the question is, what are limitations or best practices for properties API? Is it OK, or would it be smart to write only when user has finished resizing? Anyone had experiences with Properties API on different platforms?

  Hi all, I have seen links that open modal windows AND have a nice animation effect that create the illusion that the window grows out of the link clicked. On closing the window a similar animation shows that the window shrinks and disappears in the link which originally opened it. I remember I saw it on some jquery page but don't remember where and don't know what this effect is called. Have you seen this? Examples?

The instructions I am following suggest that if I click the item, the properties window will appear (it does), and then I can click ColumnDefinitions (which is a Collection) to bring up the Collection Editor and add some columns. However, the ColumnDefinitions property looks like this: The ColumnDefinitions ellipsis you'd normally press is gone, or invisible, or something. Any idea why?

The thing is : if I want to bypass pop-up blockers, I can't open my new window from the injected script. I need to open it right from the beginning in the bookmarklet code, and to access it later when needed. I've tried to do somehting like this : javascript:var my_popup = window.open('http://127.0.0.1:8000/resources/manage/new/', 'newResourcePopup',config='height=200,width=400,toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no'); (function() { // script injection (...) })(); but if I then try to access my_popup from my remotely loaded script, most browsers will throw a security warning and won't let me access the Window object.   In this example, http://jsfiddle.net/mnXH9/, the height of the content-display element and the height of the nav-menu-container are fixed. How do I make the height of the content-display and nav-menu-container elements extend to the remaining height of the browser window as the browser height is being adjusted by a user provided the height in the browser window is greater than 400px (The height of the header plus the nav-menu-container)? I would like for the scrollbar to be inside the nav-menu-content element if the total height in the browser is greater than the sum of the height of the header (100px) and the nav-menu-container element (300px). If the browser window's height is less than 400px then a scrollbar would appear in the browser window to allow scrolling throughout the 100px header and the 300px min-height of the below elements. This can be done in two steps, by opening the file and then go to the view source window (different shortcuts in each browser), but I want to directly go to the view source window.   My layout breaks if I change the window size in IE7/AOL, so I added a simple javascript function that fires on window.onresize, but no matter how I change the location I get problems. It was suggested I post a link and here it is: link text I already use PHP to detect browser and include an IE7-only inline stylesheet (and for mobile browsers), and my page looks nearly identical to the way it does in FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari and IE8, but when I change the window size, some things go wonky, and come back into line if you refresh. Any advice is welcome :)

• How to put JFrame into existing JPanel in Java Swing?

  I have an open-source java swing application like this: http://i47.tinypic.com/dff4f7.jpg You can see in the screenshot, there is a JPanel divided into two area, left and right area. The left area has many text links. When I click the SLA Criteria link, it will pop-up the SLA Criteria window. The pop-up window is JFrame object. Now, I'm trying to put the pop-up window into right area of the JPanel, so that means no pop-up window anymore, i.e. when I click the SLA Criteria link, its contents will be displayed at the right area of the JPanel. The existing content of the right area of JPanel will not be used anymore. The example illustration (note: it's made and edited using image editor, this is not the real screenshot of working application) is like this: http://i48.tinypic.com/5vrxaa.jpg So, I would like to know is there a way to put JFrame into JPanel? I'm thinking of using JInternalFrame, is it possible? Or is there another way? I've managed to connect to a class without any issues, but what I really want to do is connect to a property of the main window. • XMLHttpRequest() and outputting csv file

  Initially, I developed a javascript function to use window.open to post contents of a form to a new window which simply opened the new window and initiated a csv file download. Now on reflection, I find the opening of the window superfluous and am trying to just execute a XMLHttpRequest() to download the csv. I am not getting what I want and I'm not 100% sure that I can so I thought I'd ask here for some assistance. When a form is submitted, I want to take all the form values and post them to another page which builds an SQL string and builds a csv based on the contents. (This I can do and works fine with XMLHttpRequest() as seen below) var xhReq = new XMLHttpRequest(); var parameters = ""; for ( i=0; i<formObj.elements.length; i++ ) { parameters += formObj.elements[i].name + "=" + encodeURI( formObj.elements[i].value ) + "&"; } xhReq.open("POST", outputLocation, false); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Content-length", parameters.length); xhReq.setRequestHeader("Connection", "close"); xhReq.send(parameters); document.write(xhReq.responseText); The code above calls the page ok, builds the csv ok, but it outputs the contents into the current browser window instead of initiating a csv file download.   I have url connection, which normally works fine NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:delegate]; But when I create a modal window, no request ever receives response: [NSApp runModalForWindow:window]; If I comment this line out, thus creating a 'standard' window, everything works. I tried implementing all methods from NSURLConnectionDelegate, not a single of them called. I suspect this is something about 'run loops', but have little experience in this area. When looking in spy++, it looks like the parent of the listbox is the desktop, not the combo box. How can I programmatically find the listbox window handle?
