  • Best Way to Load Streaming Media Content in Intranet

    Hello, What would be the best way to deal with large streaming media content in Intranet. We have a 50 MB file that is to be loaded to our Intranet site. Currently we have just pointed it to a file location instead of using a Data Streaming Server. This will download to each client when selected and is obviously not a good approach to accessing streaming media when accessing from overseas offices. Any suggestions? Cheers, Magic

  • Ubuntu server or Debian server (to run C++ apps developed on Ubuntu)

    I have written a number of C++ server side daemons for my website, using my Ubuntu 9.10 dev machine. I am now about to venture out to look for a hosting provider etc. This is my problem: I have read on many posts (admittedly old posts) that Debian server is much more robust than Ubuntu server - is this till the case?. In particular, I am constantly "raising elephants" with my Ubuntu 9.10 - this is "ok" for home use, but for a website server, I would not be so forgiving. Also, there seems to be a new "patch" every few weeks - which I would not like on a server (I want to leave the server well alone, and let it get on with its business of serving pages). So in this instance Debian looks a more attractive proposition. I am worried that the C++ apps I have developed on Ubuntu may not be binary compatable with Debian (or I may need to install additional libraries/packages etc to get things to work), and I have zero experience with Debian. Additionally, I dont want to be grappling with the learning curve associated with a new OS, whilst trying to launch a new web site (I am assuming Debian UI is quite different from Ubuntu). In this case, the maxim "the devil you know is better than the one you dont", seems appropriate - and I find Ubuntu a more attractive proposition (atleast I know my apps will run without any probs etc). Can anyone provide some rational advice (based on actual experience), to help me decide which route to take - given the two (conflicting) trains of thought outlined above?

    I'm going to have my website hosted soon on a VPS or dedicated server (with Windows 2008), so I'm trying to plan ahead. I wonder whether the built-in SMTP server that comes with IIS7 is reliable enough for a production server or should I look for an alternative? I heard good things about hmailserver and best of all it's free, do you have any experience with using the bulit-in SMTP on a high traffic website. Thanks a lot for any suggestions

  • DDNS Not Creating Journal (Dhcpd and Named)

    * EDIT 1 * After monkeying with additional debug logging I see some log entries of interest. 27-Jul-2012 23:45:26.537 general: error: zone example.lan/IN/internal: journal rollforward failed: no more 27-Jul-2012 23:45:26.537 general: error: zone example.lan/IN/internal: not loaded due to errors. ^^^ If I can remedy the above messages I think I'll be good to go ^^^ * EDIT 2 * Grasping at straws I touched a forward and a reverse zone journal file and restarted named. Boom! Works. Despite documentation stating the files are created automatically and what I have seen before... dunno why but that did the trick. Also re-checked perms on the dir the files live in. As certain as I was, they were correct with named having rw. CentOS 6 (final) dhcpd 4.1.1-P1 named BIND 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.10.rc1.el6 Basic DHCP and DNS functionality are in place on 192.168.111.2. Clients are assigned addresses as intended and can resolve local DNS names as well as Internet names. My problem is that named's zone journal files are not created. chroot: /var/named/chroot I tried placing the zone files in various directories (/var/named/data, /var/named, /var/named/dynamic - no matter which dir with named owning and wide open perms I now get nowhere). Along the way I, at one point, got a permission denied when named tried to create the journal. Resolved the issue by: chown --recursive named:named /var/named chmod --recursive 777 /var/named The journal was then created and here's where things fell apart. I attempted to tame permissions to something more sane and broke it. Once changed and having restarted named it threw an error indicating the journal was out of sync (or something to that affect)... didn't matter since this is a new setup so I deleted it and now it is not recreated. Now though I see no errors in /var/log/messages, my chrooted /var/log/named.log, or chrooted /var/log/named.debug. I increased the debug level with 'rndc trace' - no love. Increased trace to 10, still nothing. SELinux is disabled... After these operation primary key should start from 1, but it will start from 3. I'm worry about this problem causing no place for inserting new item after long time. Does "Sql-server 2012" fill these gaps by itself? If it is possible, please refer me a documentation ( for example from microsoft)

    Hi. Does each column of a table in SQL Server have a unique id? I've looked into sys.columns and the column_id there is merely the order of the columns which changes if the order of the column is changed. I'd like to know if SQL Server maintains a unique id for each column as it does for each table and other objects. And if it does, how can I get that? Thanks.

  • Making JSON Feed Work Server to Server

    I have a JSON feed (which I don't directly control, I have to ask the server admins to update it), that is returning NULL, or otherwise not working when I try to access it from another server. The actual feed works fine, but I can't get it to work like a normal API. Why can I use Flickr, WhitePages, Twitter, etc's JSON APIs, but for: http://portlandoregon.gov/shared/cfm/json.cfm It returns NULL in the browser when using JS. If I call it on the same server, it's fine though. If this is a server issue, what do I ask the admins to change, and if this is a local (browser) based issue, what am I doing wrong for this one feed that works for every other JSON API?

    Hi folks The activity monitor in sql2k8 allows us to see the most expensive queries. Ok, that's kewl, but is there a way I can log this info or get this info via query analyser? I don't really want to have the Sql Management console open and me looking at the activity monitor dashboard. I want to figure out which queries are poorly written/schema is poorly designed, etc. Thanks heaps for any help!

  • css layout for footer at bottom with dynamic ajax content changing height of page

    [Update] I actually compromised on this problem for now by foregoing the fixed footer design. It seems that there is no problem with dynamic content moving the footer and resizing containers appropriately unless the footer is fixed to the browser bottom initially. I hope others will eventually provide a great solution that encompasses the best of both worlds. I spent all day trying to get the footer to move down the page to accommodate dynamically added (via ajax) content. I really need some pointers or links because I haven't found anything that helps. Basically: My site has some pages that begin with only a text box and a button so that the total height of the content area is only a few inches beneath the header area. I don't have any problem getting the sticky footer working so that the footer appears at the bottom of the browser window even when there is very little content on screen. That same css layout works fine for other pages that have content that extends beneath the browser window. The catch: The content has to be rendered and passed to the browser with the initial load. The Problem: Any content that is added to the page via AJAX after the initial load paints down the page correctly -- but the footer remains in its initial location. Please tell me there is a fix for this. I can't post the css until checking with my boss first - if possible - and if needed, I will later - but it's just a very basic version of the many sticky footer css solutions floating around the web.     I'm using MSSQLExpress named instance in my Silverlight 4 application. The database located in the web application data folder. I attached the db via VS2010. The program works, but the db doesn't show up in Management Studio Express. If I delete the connection from within VS2010, and Try to attach to db via Management Studio Express, on writes, that the database with same the name already exists. Why the database connected via VS2010 doesn't show up in Management Studio Express? Thanks in advance Gabor

  • jQuery - Creating a dynamic content loader using $.get()

    Hello everybody! (hello dr.Nick) :) So I posted a question yesterday about a content loader plugin for jQuery I thought I'd use, but didn't get it to work. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2469291/jquery-could-use-a-little-help-with-a-content-loader Although it works now, I see some disadvantages to it. It requires heaploads of files where the content is in. Since the code essentially picks up the url in the href link and searches that file for a div called #content What I would really like to do is to collect all of these files into a single file and give each div/container it's unique ID and just pick up the content from those. So i won't need so many separate files laying around. Nick Craver thought I should use $.get()instead since it's got a descent callback. But I'm not that strong in js at all.. And I don't even know what this means. I'm basically used to Visual Basic and passing of arguments, storing in txt files etc. Which is really not suitable for this purpose. So what's the "normal" way of doing things like this? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this right? I basically want to get content from a single php file that contains alot of divs with unique IDs. And without much hassle, fade out the existing content in my main page, pick up the contents from the other file and fade it into my main page.

    This code was once working on sql server 2005. Now isolated in a visual basic 6 sub routine using ADODB to connect to a sql server 2008 database it throws an error saying: "Login failed for user 'admin' " I have since verified the connection string does work if i replace the body of this sub with the alternative code below this sub.   • SQL Server Error 26 (Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Only When Debugging

    I have a simple asp .net web project I'm working on, and while normally everything is going fine, if I try to debug the site, I get "SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified". I'm not sure if its a weird code issue or a weird SQL Server Issue, but here are the system specs anyway. My dev machine is Windows 7 32-bit, and a Windows Server 2008 VM (on the same Windows 7 Machine) runs both IIS and SQL Server 2008 Express. I haven't had any other problems with the connection string I'm using, and I'm using the simple SA account. Anyhow, thanks for the help.

  • Migrating MachineKey from iis6 on old server to iis7 on new server

    I am migrating our hosting environment to a totally new data center with new boxes and hardware and software... the whole deal. Our website cookies are encrypted using the machineKey, so when I make a request to my domain and point it to the new web server (by overriding the local hosts file), I get an error because the cookie cannot be decrypted, since the Machine Key is different. I'd like to avoid any problems a frequent user might have when they arrive at the new server for the first time. To the best of my knowledge, at this point I think I need to set the same MachineKey from our current servers on our new servers. This way when past visitors with a cookie arrive at our website served by the new server, the cookie will be decrypted properly with the MachineKey it was encrypted with and then log them in properly. My question is where do I find my MachineKey value (in IIS 6 win2k3 server) so I can use that value to set it statically on my new servers? I've pulled up my machine.config file, but it doesn't specify the key, it only specifies a configSection where the key can be defined. It's not in my web.config for the app or elsewhere. I did find this great article on some MachineKey and Web Garden woes (which could explain some other bugs I've been experiencing with regard to the machineKey). Update I am back to this issue and am still faced with a similar problem. I have the MachineKey auto-generated on the IIS6 server but I need to get that exact key so I can set it explicitly and not have it auto-generated anymore. Any help is appreciated...
