• Aptana Studio 3 does not start up in Ubuntu 12.10

  I followed the instructions provided here to install Aptana Studio 3 in my Ubuntu 12.10. I have completed all the steps with out any problems. When I click the Aptana icon in my Unity bar nothing happens. No error pops up! I gave permission on the sh file and on the directory (/opt/Aptana_Studio_3) but still same problem. If I try executing the sh file in the /opt/Aptana_Studio_3 folder, it says "Syntax error: "(" unexpected Aptana". Also I cannot execute the Aptana binary file directly. I have been trying to solve the problem for a while now. Any help would be much appreciated. EDIT: I have Oracle Java 7 installed. I have read some post about backwards compatibility problem with Java 6 but dont know whether that's the issue. I will edit the question if I find something new.

• Does NASA license the software that it develops?

  NASA provides a visualization software called Panoply. There is a Credits and Acknowledgments page that acknowledges and lists the licenses of software dependencies, but provides no information about its own license. I have looked at other software produced by NASA, including the source code for GISS and can not find any information about a licence. The closest information that I can find is in the FAQ for the global climate model EdGCM Global that says the code is in the "public domain" is it standard practice at NASA to release code into the public domain? are there exceptions? Can I assume that Panoply is public domain and can be used without restriction other than than those imposed by licenses of software dependencies? Is the absence of specific permission to reuse the code a concern (this issue was raised in the answer to a separate question) How common is this practice across government agencies?

• Ubuntu 12.04 graphics crashing when GVIM opens TEX files

  I am having a little problem everytime I open GVIM to edit *.TEX files.... the menus die, windows jiggle (maximize and minimize quickly) and I get a 'internal error ' crash report from ubuntu (12.04). It says the problem is at /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service. Any tips on how to solve this? It might be related to the Latex package of vim (also I get this message when I open gvim (with or without TEX files) on terminal: (gvim:5915): Gnome-WARNING **: Accessibility: failed to find module 'libgail-gnome' which is needed to make this application accessible (gvim:5915): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot retrieve class for invalid (unclassed) type `' Issue is independant of theme I just checked... • Partitions and cdrom are not mounted, and the bars are missing in Ubuntu 12.04

  Provide my spec and sorry for my poor English first. MB: Gigabyte G31M-S2L (bios ver. F9) CPU: intel E5200 2G RAM HD1: WD 160G with 2 partitions (partition 1:60G, NTFS, win xp; partition 2:100G, NTFS) HD2: WD 320G with 2 partitions (partition 3:220G, NTFS; partition 4:100G, ext4, Ubuntu) Recently, I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 on my desktop PC (on partition 4). At the beginning, everything looked great including the auto-mounting of partitions 1~3 and the unity (3D). However, after I deleted and re-allocated the partitions on HD2 and re-installed Ubuntu on partition 4, the partitions 1~3 are no longer auto-mounted when I logged in the desktop (and even the inserted cdrom would not be mounted either), and the launch bar and menu bar in unity (3D) are missing. The configurations during these two installations are all the same as default. Are there any possible reasons or solutions for this issue? Thank you in advance!

• Restart Trouble Ubuntu 12.10

  I`ve installed Ubuntu 12.10 on 3 different machines: Acer AspireOne Netbook Lenovo T60 Notebook Desktop - P5P77 - Asus mainboard - I3 - porcessor I have the same issue on all of themm they won`t restart (Shut Down work), I can see the proceses are killed but it freezez on black screen total iresponsive. Even when I access the bios config to modify something then Save&Exit then restart I get the same thing. This is the same for all 3 machines. I also cleaned up the desktop system, last version of bios update, full HDD format, fresh win7 installed (practicly no trace of the old Ubuntu 12.10) still the same problem. Some time ago I had Ubuntu 11.10 on the desktop system, it worked perfectly. I also mention that I tried all combinations of ACPI settings in BIOS, unfortunately with no results. • I want to record a screencast of a processing sketch

  I have a created a music visualisation using Processing. I now want to convert that to a video, and the least obtrusive way I could think of is to record a screencast. I figured exporting Processing to video including audio, from within Processing itself, on ubuntu seemed an unsolved issue. Very hard and also could cause timing sync issues (since the music keeps running while images are captured). So move on to the screencast method. Dead-easy, I figured. But I was wrong. First hurdle was to find a way to record the sound from the audio (and not the mic). I did find a tutorial for that here. In short: use gtk-recordmydesktop and pulse audio. But, apparently, what happens: Processing does not use ALSA. When the sound is playing, it does not appear in the Pulse Audio mixer. How can I record the audio now?

• How to make Devilspie Make an Applet be "silent" but then openable

  Am using gnome-shell with 11.10. I have two panel based applets (Toggl and Gnome Alarm Clock) that I run at startup. The issue is that they start as Windows, and I'd like them to start "silently" but still be able to recall their interface when I need them. I installed Devilspie and gDevilspie which properly "close" the applets after starting them, but there's a "Catch 22." Because of the "close" behavior, they can never be opened again as long as the Devilspie daemon is running.. Is there a way around this? An example of the rule I'm using is this: ( if ( begin ( is ( application_name ) "alarm-clock-applet" ) ) ( begin ( close ) ( println "match" ) ) )

• ATI graphics card, with gnome shell, screen flickers

  After installing gnome shell, without any problem, after log in the fonts are missing and it looks like crap...nothing is readable. Don't want to make it a double post, because my issue is similar to the one from this question but for me the problems have not been solved properly. After running the commands from that post, and installing the latest AMD 11.10 driver, the Gnome shell display issues have been solved. But each time I move the mouse in the upper left corner, to bring up the applications...my entire screen flickers. Without the applications been displayed, everything looks fine. Hardware: ATI HD4870, Intel Q6600.

  Ever since 10.04 I have been trying to resolve an issue with my graphics card - nVidia GeForce 210. I'm having issues when I watch movies on 10.10 - they are jumping all the time, even with Compiz disabled and when that is the only thing I am doing. I have tried the solution to How to get NVidia GeForce GT 210 drivers working on Lucid Lynx? but it didn't work. How can I fix this?   We are initiating in Spring + Primefaces development and the first problem we have encountered is about storing the xhtml pages into the WEB-INF folder. When we use a faces form in a view located inside the WEB-INF folder, then the commandButton does not execute the managed bean method. Our bean : In fact we think the problem is that with JSF , the pages are rendered using a link to the same page as the action of the form, so if the page is located in WEB-INF it is not public accessible. We know that having all our xhtml views in the web folder instead of WEB-INF actually solves the issue, but we would like to store that pages into WEB-INF. Thank you.

• Bad texture on model with different GPU

  I have some kind of distortion on the texture of my 3D model. It works perfectly well on an AMD GPU, but when testing on a integrated Intel HD graphics card it has a weird issue. I don't have a problem with the rest of my entities as they are not scaled. The models with the problems are scaled, as my engine supports different sizes for the platforms. I am using Ogre3D as rendering engine, and GLSL as shader language. • Record and display Kinect audio and video via avconv

  I'm trying to record audio and video from a Kinect using avconv but I seem to have trouble specifying the right options. avconv -f video4linux2 -video_size 640x480 -c:v h264 -c:a ac3 -i /dev/video1 test.mp4 results in: avconv: /build/buildd/libav-extra-0.8.3ubuntu0.12.04.1/libav/libavutil/mathematics.c:79: av_rescale_rnd: Assertion `c > 0' failed. Aborted (core dumped) Cheese is perfectly happy recording the audio and video from the Kinect, so it's not a setup issue. For added fun, I also need to display the video at the same time.

• How can I set up a keyboard shortcut so that Ctrl+Backspace = Del?

  As an old mac user, I am used to hitting Ctrl+Backspace, and the effect is the same as if I pressed Del. I have recently purchased an Asus N53SV laptop which has replaced my MacBook, but unfortunately this laptop has a very annoying keyboard layout, where the Del key is in a non standard position, and moreover it is TINY. Is it possible to get the Ctrl+Backspace combination to issue a Del and how would I do this? Using Kubuntu, but I believe this is to be done at X level, not at desktop, am I right? Thanks!

I use jQuery, also I use date and time picker jQuery plugin in my cms, I can say this is just a 1% of my big script, I don't want sell my whole program as GPL because of these two small integrations (jQuery and DateTime picker). Please ask on these questions: I'm worry about license issue. What is the best way to sell my product(licensing type)? Is there any way to provide some partial licenses? I mean just add small notification in my license that the jQuery and The DateTime picker is still in GPL, but other part of this CMS has commercial license?   Had a great conversation today regarding the need for metering, chargeback, and billing of cloud computing resources. The person I spoken with at a Fortune 1000 company increased the scope and magnitude of the issue of billing for cloud computing resources beyond what I had previously considered. I believed that doing any type of chargeback and billing for one public, private or hybrid installation was difficult. This person pointed out that the problem is even bigger in scope. The reality is many companies are using multiple public cloud vendors and have many different private cloud data centers. A customer may use AWS for some smaller public cloud applications, Salesforce.com (SaaS), Rackspace for IaaS, Savvis for colocation and a variety of Iaas and PaaS implementations for the private cloud. How does a company get a consolidated bill for all these different cloud environments? I am not sure their is an answer right now.

  My company has recently switched to an Agile WoW and as a part of it we've started using SCRUM. While I'm very comfortable with it and feel that this WoW is superior to a traditional one, some of my teammates don't share the same opinion. In fact they are very skeptical about "all that agile stuff", and don't take it seriously. As an example, one of the teammates is always late on the meetings, and doesn't really care about it. The management IMO tries not to notice this (maybe because it's a new Wow, and it takes time for the people to get used to it). • How to deal with animated doors in isometric tiles

  I've got a tricky issue I'm not sure how to tackle best: I have an animated tile of a door. When it's closed it should be sorted one way, but when it's openend it will need to be sorted a different way, as it belonging to a different(neighbouring tile). Here's the door closed: and the door opened: I imagine it would be possible to override the sorting system for such tiles and adjust the sorting based on the frame, but it feels a bit hacky. Has anyone encountered a similar scenario ? Any elegant solutions ?

  I've already search for similar problems but they are so different from mine. these are the drivers http://db.tt/qFZlD5JD I'm having problem with this Additional Drivers once I click the Activate button it will start in downloading and installing but after that it will say Installation failed. Then the "Enable Wireless" will not be available. With the Software Modem issue is the same problem with the Broadcom. These drivers are working on Ubuntu 9 and 11 if I'm not mistaken. Only on 12.04 is not working. One more thing these drivers will enable the Huawei E165g E220. I've already tried other solution for the Huawei to activate but all didn't work. After a restart Enable wireless becomes okay, though. To all Ubuntu experts and masters please I'm begging for help. A million Thank You!.

  In my cube world, I want to use octrees to represent my chunks of 20x20x20 cubes for frustum and occlusion culling. I understand how octrees work, I just dont know if I'm going about this the right way. My base octree class is taken from here: http://www.xnawiki.com/index.php/Octree What I'm wondering is how to apply occlusion culling using this class. Does it make sense to have one octree for each cube chunk? Or should I make the octree bigger? Since I'm using cubes, each cube should fit into a node without overlap so that won't be an issue

• Screen will not lock automatically 12.10

  Since upgrading to 12.10 I cannot get my screen to lock automatically. I am using GDM at home and LightDM at work and neither will lock automatically. However, when I issue CTRL + ALT + L on either system, the screen will lock as it should. It is set to turn the display off after 5 minutes and lock screen when screen turns off. Require Password is set also. Display turns off after 5 minutes but no locking occurs. I am using Unity with Compiz on both systems. Not sure what other things might be involved.

• How to implement the light trails for a tron game?

  Well I was creating a TRON style game, but had an issue with creating the actual light trails for the game. What I'm doing currently is I have an array the same size as my window in pixel size, implemented like this: int* collision[800][600]; Then when the bike goes on a certain pixel, it is marked with a 1 for traveled on. However what is the most efficient way to create a working light trail display? I tried to do something like this: int i, j; for(i=0; i<800; i++) for(j=0; j<600; j++) if(*collision[i][j] == 1) Image::applySurface(i, j, trailSurface, gameScreen); But it isn't working properly? It just fills the whole screen with a sprite instead. Whats a better/faster/working way to do this?
