  • C# program freezes without breakpoints

    - by Lily
Hi, I'm implementing a program which gets text from various sites and checks which ones are most relevant to a query. The problem is that when I have breakpoints in my code it works perfectly well but without it, the program just freezes. Is this a memory issue? What can I do to solve this please? THanks

  • Struct inside a class

    - by Balakrishnan
I have a class definition of the form class X { public: //class functions private: A_type *A; //other class variables }; and struct A_type is defined as struct A_type { string s1,s2,s3; }; Inside the constructor, I allocate appropriate memory for A and try A[0].s1="somestring"; It shows segmentation fault. Is this kind of declaration invalid, or am I missing something

  • Including a C header which declares a variable called "new"?

    - by StackedCrooked
I'm trying to use the OpenCA library in a C++ application. However, when including the file pki_x509_data_st.h the following code fragment is encountered: typedef struct pki_x509_callbacks_st { /* ---------------- Memory Management -------------------- */ void * (*new) (void ); void (*free) (void *x ); void * (*dup) (void *x ); This won't compile because of the "new" pointer declaration. How can I make it work?

  • Is Appfogs pricing model sustainable?

    - by Kyle Finley
I was looking at AppFog's Pricing and they appear to be giving 2GB of ram away for free, to nonpaying customers. This seems unprecedented for PAAS provodes--providers like Heroku and App Engine remove the app from memory if it has been inactive for certain amount of time. Does cloudfoundry work similarly? Am I wrong in assuming that in a few years appfog servers will be filled with inactive non paying applications?

  • Is there any way to force an iPhone application to relaunch?

    - by Jared P
Basically -[UIApplication openURL:] would be perfect, if it wasn't for the fact that it doesn't work within the same application (at least on simulator -- if this works on device someone please tell me). It's not a super big deal though if it just relaunches w/o URLness since I can obviously just persist some data. The goal of this is to essentially free all memory in the application and call all of the loading procedures.

  • C# Dictionary Performance

    - by derek
I am using a Dictionary to store data, and will be caching it. I would like to avoid server memory issues, and have good performance by limiting the size of the Dictionary<, either in size or number of entries. What is the best method of doing this? Is there another class I should be considering other than a Dictionary?

  • suggestion for designing an application to show plists

    - by thndrkiss
Hi, I am new to iphone programming designs. I have hundreds of plists on my server. On the first launch i will be downloading all these plists into my application and storing it here. What are all the best ways to save and retrieve these plists in my application ? What are the iPhone libraries that should be used to get the best and memory efficient iphone application ?

  • In ruby on rails, is it possible to do a sum query with group by using the find_each batching?

    - by BarryOg
I'm loading data from my database and I'm doing a sum calculation with a group by. ElectricityReading.sum(:electricity_value, :group => "electricity_timestamp", :having => ["electricity_timestamp = '2010-02-14 23:30:00'"]) My data sets are extremely large, 100k upwards so I was wondering if its possible to use the find_each to batch this to help with memory overhead. I can write the batching manually use limit and offset I guess but I'd like to avoid that if the code already exists.

  • the possible solution to this design issue??

    - by Sachindra
    I need to know how to fix this issue in the designs of forms.. Getting this in firefox and this in IE... the color is not an issue.. juz need the alignment to be fixed... The code goes like this : <div class="content_form_box7_main"> <div class="content_form_box7_main1"> <input type="text" name="email" value="Comments" class="content_form_box7_inside"/> </div> </div> the style goes like : .content_form_box7_main{ float:left; color:#FFFFFF; padding:5px 0px 2px 0px; width:281px; } .content_form_box7_main1{ float:left; padding:0px 0px 0px 40px; } .content_form_box7_inside{ float:left; background-image:url(images/amcro_contact4.gif); width:206px; height:43px; background-repeat:no-repeat; border:none; background-color:#E0D1B4; vertical-align:top; } apologies if it looks complex ...

  • Passing C string reference to C#

    - by user336109
c code extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) int export(LPCTSTR inputFile, string &msg) { msg = "haha" } c# code [DllImport("libXmlEncDll.dll")] public static extern int XmlDecrypt(StringBuilder inputFile, ref Stringbuilder newMsg) } I got an error when I try to retrieve the content of newMsg saying that I'm trying to write to a protected memory area. What is the best way to retrieve the string from c to c#. Thanks.

  • How to emulate onLowMemory()?

    - by Samuh
I have put some instructions in onLowMemory() callback and want to test the same. Is there a "direct" way to test onLowMemory function of the application subclass? Or will I have to just overload the phone by starting many apps and doing memory intensive tasks? Thanks.

  • R: optimal way of computing the "product" of two vectors

    - by Musa
    Hi, Let's assume that I have a vector r <- rnorm(4) and a matrix W of dimension 20000*200 for example: W <- matrix(rnorm(20000*200),20000,200) I want to compute a new matrix M of dimension 5000*200 such that m11 <- r%*%W[1:4,1], m21 <- r%*%W[5:8,1], m12 <- r%*%W[1:4,2] etc. (i.e. grouping rows 4-by-4 and computing the product). What's the optimal (speed,memory) way of doing this? Thanks in advance.

  • What does it mean to flush a socket?

    - by User4748402
I don't really know much about sockets except how to read and write to them as if they were files. I know a little about using socket selectors. I don't get why you have to flush a socket, what's actually happening there? The bits just hang out somewhere in memory until they get pushed off? I read some things online about sockets, but it's all very abstract and high level. What's actually happening here?

  • Why thread specific data is required in pthread ?

    - by user504542
Hi As i know, all the threads share memory location. For example a global variable changes in one thread will reflect in another thread. Since each thread has its own stack, the local variables that are created inside the thread is unique. In this case, why do we need to go for thread specific data mechanism?. Can't it be achieved by auto storage varibles inside the thread function ? Kindly clarify!!!. BR Rj

  • Optimizing grep (or using AWK) in a shell script

    - by Ode
Hi - In my shell script, I am trying to search using terms found in a $sourcefile against the same $targetfile over and over. My $sourcefile is formatted as such: pattern1 pattern2 etc... The inefficient loop I have to search with is: for line in $(< $sourcefile);do fgrep $line $targetfile | fgrep "RID" >> $outputfile done I understand it would be possible to improve this by either loading the whole $targetfile into memory, or perhaps by using AWK? Thanks

  • How to find where error is.

    - by gurugio
How can I find where the error occurs? In C language, the return value means what error occurs, such as failure to open file or memory allocation. There is no information where the error occurs. For example, function 'foo' calls A,B,C,D. If foo returns an error value, it might be return value of A or B or C or D. I cannot find what function returns error. I have to run debugger or add some codes to find what function returns error.

  • Performance analysis for java application

    - by user1827614
I want to do a performance measurement of my application and would like to be able to configure the stats for specific module like (enable for specific module and disable for some) and I want to measure things like memory usage, threads, average band width etc.. Can any one suggest something please, I am new to this. I think Visual VM is good but it doesnot support configuring for different modules. Does Perf4j or Admin4j work here? any one has used these before?
