  I get this error, while I'm testing the code below: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[student](ID, LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, SCHOOL) VALUES ('333', 'aaa', 'aaa', 'aaa')' at line 1 I just recycled the code that I used in manipulating ms sql database. So the syntax must be wrong. What might be the correct syntax for adding records into mysql database? • combining dynamic text with regular expressions in php

  I am experimenting with finding popular keywords using curl, php and regular expressions. I have an array of non-specific nouns that I am matching my keyword search up. So I am looking for words like "the", "and", "that" etc. and taking them out of the keyword search. so I have an array of words like so: $wordArr = [the, and, at,....]; and then running something like: && preg_match('(\bmyword\w*\b)', $key) == false how do I combine these two so it loops through the array finding out if any of the words in the array match the regular expression? I guess I could just do a for loop, but though maybe I could use in_array($wordArr, $key).. or something like that.

• Crystal Report Function for converting Seconds to Timespan format.

  I have a crystal report where it shows the Agent's activities throughout the day with a pie chart. In the details section it is displaying: Activity [string] StartedAt [DateTime] EndedAt [DateTime] Duration [The difference between EndedAt and StartedAt in seconds - Integer] Report data is GroupedBy Activity and summarized by Duration. Currently Duration is shown in seconds but I need to format it 02h:30m:22s:15ms. For that I wrote a custom function in Crystal Report in the Formula Workshop editor as follows, but it looks like the syntax is not right (Error message on keyword Long: "A variable type (for example, 'String') is missing."). Can someone help? • Code First / Database First / Model First : are they just personnal preferences?

  Merely knowing the internal functionality of each approaches, and after reading a lot of posts, I still can't figure out if each one of them is just a matter of personnal preference for the developper or if they deserve different axes of productivity ? Does one of them should be applyed for some specific productivity needs or MS is just beeing kind offering three different flavours ? Should we consider CF as a sort of improvement over DBF or MF and thinking of it as a futur standard on wich spending a peculiar intelectual investment ... ? Is there a link showing a sort of synthetic table with un-passionate pros and cons for each approach, a little bit like for web-forms and MVC. Sorry for those who will find this question redondant. I know it is.

• NHibernate Named Query Parameter Numbering @p1 @p2 etc

  A colleague recently ran into a problem where he was passing in a single date parameter to a named query. In the query, the parameter was being used twice, once in an expression and once in a GROUP BY clause. Much to our surprise, we discovered that NHibernate used two variables and sent the single named parameter in twice, as @p1 and @p2. This behaviour caused SQL to fail the query, with the usual "a column in the select clause is not in the group by clause" (I paraphrase ofcourse). Is this behaviour normal? Can it be changed? Seems to me that if you have a parameter name like :startDate, NHibernate only needs to pass in @p1 no matter how many times you might refer to :startDate in the query. Any comments? The problem was worked around by using another sub-query to overcome the SQL parsing error.

  Following problem: I need to get the position of a record in the table. Let's say I have five record in the table: Name: john doe, ID: 1 Name: jane doe, ID: 2 Name: Frankie Boy, ID: 4 Name: Johnny, ID: 9 Now, "Frankie Boy" is in the third position in the table. But How to get this information from the SQL server? I could count IDs, but they are not reliable, Frankie has the ID 4, but is in the third position because the record with the ID '3' was deleted. Is there a way? I am aware of ROW_RANK but it would be costly, because I need to select basically the whole set first before I can rank row_rank them. I am using MS SQL Server 2008 R2.

  i just discovered http://code.google.com/p/re2, a promising library that uses a long-neglected way (Thompson NFA) to implement a regular expression engine that can be orders of magnitudes faster than the available engines of awk, Perl, or Python. so i downloaded the code and did the usual sudo make install thing. however, that action had seemingly done little more than adding /usr/local/include/re2/re2.h to my system. there seemed to be some `*.a file in addition, but then what is it with this *.a extension? i would like to use re2 from Python (preferrably Python 3.1) and was excited to see files like make_unicode_groups.py in the distro (maybe just used during the build process?). those however were not deployed on my machine. how can i use re2 from Python?

  I use MS Visual Studio and I am new to C++, so I am just wondering if there is an faster more efficient way to do multiple test cases instead of keep clicking CTRL+F5 and re-opening the console many times.   I have a bit of code that I have been tasked with converting to C# from VB. A snippet of mine seems like it cannot be converted from one to the other, and if so, I just don't know how to do it and am getting a little frustrated. Here's some background: OrderForm is an abstract class, inherited by Invoice (and also PurchaseOrder). The following VB snippet works correctly: Dim Invs As List(Of OrderForm) = GetForms(theOrder.OrderID) .... Invoice inv = Invs.Find( (Invoice someInv) => thePO.SubPONumber == someInv.SubInvoiceNumber); However, I get the following error when I do this: Cannot convert lambda expression to delegate type 'System.Predicate' because the parameter types do not match the delegate parameter types Is there any way to fix this without restructuring my whole codebase?

I have made a DataSet, it contains my 3 SP's, I can easily use 2 of them, because they return data, but the one I'm having trouble with doesn't. Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com.   Hello I am working on internal PHP application where users login only from our network (we are on dedicated IP and application is checking $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] and if is match our IP go thru if not - Bye However how I can identify from which station user is login ? Using cookie not gonna work - those are windows station working under control MS StedyState and all cookies are deleted every login I don't need nothing fancy like full MAC address just any unique ID (can not be application username - because users use different stations) Any ideas ? Maybe Javascript is able to grab some Unique detail from station's browser (IE 8) and pass this as hidden input? bensiu

  I've been implementing MS Search Server 2010 and so far its really good. Im doing the search queries via their web service, but due to the inconsistent results, im thinking about caching the result instead. The site is a small intranet (500 employees), so it shouldnt be any problems, but im curious what approach you would take if it was a bigger site. I've googled abit, but havent really come over anything specific. So, a few questions: What other approaches are there? And why are they better? How much does it cost to store a dataview of 400-500 rows? What sizes are feasible? Other points you should take into consideration. Any input is welcome :)

• How to convert a MSSQL database (including procedures, functions and triggers) to a firebird databas

  I am considering migrating to Firebird. To have a "quick start" approach I downloaded the trial of a conversion tool (DBConvert) and tried it. I just picked up a random tool, this tool doesn't convert procedures, functions and triggers (I don't think it is a limit of the trial since there is not an explicit reference to sp, sf and triggers in the link above). Anyway by trying that tool I had the message: "The DB cannot be converted succesfully because some FK names are too long." This is because in some tables I have FK whose description is 32 chars. Is this a real firebird limit or it is possible to overcome it somehow (of course renaming the FK is an extreme option because it is extra work)? Anyway how to convert a MS SQL DB fully to FIREBIRD? Is there a valid tool? Did someone succed in a conversion of non trivial databases?

• Entity data field validation and part data submission

  I have an entity class that has 10 fields. I am using MS Validation Application block to mark all fields as mandatory (IsRequired). I am implementing a securiy feature in which during updation of the data, not all the fields in the entity class will have data. For example a few users can only view 5 fileds while others all 10 fields during updation on GUI I have the following options 1) Bring all the data for all the fields from the DB table and hide the ones not accessible to the users in GUI. I am concerned about the performance because everytime GUI will pull unncessary data. 2) Bring the data (e.g. only 5 fields) that are permissible for access/view by the user on GUI. During submit, validation block will throw exception because all fields are marked as IsRequired and only data for 5 fields are sent back to the server. I want to know if there are any other good approaches to solve problems like this. I am using .NET 3.5 Thanks.

  I am trying to create a table in my MS SQL database for Languages. I want to store an English name of Language and a local name of language in the database. i.e. Language, Language(local) English, English German, Deutsch Italian, Italiano Japanese, ??? ... ... I have 279 languages that I want to import, but when I import it shows '?????' for some like japanese, Russian and arabic etc The database Collation is Latin1_General_CI_AS. I would also like advise on multilingual websites; if i have a database of product descriptions and I want to have translation in multiple languages, should I go for separate databases or Can I have translation in one databse? (I prefer not to duplicate data!). Anything else to make sure users are able to write comments in different languages (char encoding on web?) and can be stored in database.

  I have a parent class which is templated, and a child class which implements it. template< typename T1, typename T2> class ParentClass{ . . . }; class ChildClass : public ParentClass<MyT1, MyT2> { . . . }; And I want to have a pointer which I can use polymorphically: ParentClass<T1, T2>* ptr; ptr = static_cast<ParentClass<MyT1, MyT2>* >(new ChildClass() ); No matter how I cast it, I always get a C2664 which has the same expression: error C2664: cannot convert parameter 1 from 'ParentClass< T1,T2 *' to 'ParentClass< T1,T2 *' Is it not possible to cast pointer types between inherited types if the parent is templated, even if the types specified in the templates are the same?
