• TCP 3 way handshake

  Hi, i'm just observing what NMAP is doing for the 3 ports it reports are open. I understand what a half-scan attack is, but what's happening doesnt make sense. NMAP is reporting ports 139 are 445 are open..... all fine. But when i look at the control bits, NMAP never sends RST once it has found out the port is open, It does this for port 135- but not 139 and 445. This is what happens: (I HAVE OMITTED THE victim's replies) Sends a 2 (SYN) Sends a 16 (ACK) Sends a 24 (ACK + PST) Sends a 16 (ACK) Sends a 17 (ACK + FIN) I dont get why NMAP doesnt 'RST' ports 139 and 445??

  I'm writing a simple mod_perl handler that relies on $r-path_info() to do some request routing. However, I find that it's always eating the first part of PATH_INFO when mounted on root. Let's say that the handler just prints the value of $r-path_info: <Location /TEST> PerlHandler MyHandler </Location> Request: /TEST/123 Expected PATH_INFO: /123 Got PATH_INFO: /123 (yay!) <VirtualHost *:80> # or <Location /> for that matter PerlHandler MyHandler </VirtualHost> Request: /123 Expected PATH_INFO: /123 Got PATH_INFO: nothing!   I have been doing a little reading on Flow Based Programming over the last few days. There is a wiki which provides further detail. And wikipedia has a good overview on it too. My first thought was, "Great another proponent of lego-land pretend programming" - a concept harking back to the late 80's. But, as I read more, I must admit I have become intrigued. Have you used FBP for a real project? What is your opinion of FBP? Does FBP have a future? In some senses, it seems like the holy grail of reuse that our industry has pursued since the advent of procedural languages.

• www disappear when using Name-based virtual host.

• Best way to test instance methods without running __init__

  I've got a simple class that gets most of its arguments via init, which also runs a variety of private methods that do most of the work. Output is available either through access to object variables or public methods. Here's the problem - I'd like my unittest framework to directly call the private methods called by init with different data - without going through init. What's the best way to do this? So far, I've been refactoring these classes so that init does less and data is passed in separately. This makes testing easy, but I think the usability of the class suffers a little. • How to stop C# compile on first error in VS 2010 (VS 2008 macros don't work)!

  At work we have a C# solution with over 80 projects. Is it possible in VS 2010 to automatically stop compilation as soon as an error is encountered rather than the default behaviour which is to continue as far as possible and display a list of errors in the error window? I'm happy for it to stop either as soon as an error is encountered (file-level) or as soon as a project fails to build (project-level). I'd also note that in VS 2008 we used macros similar to some of the answers below but they don't work in VS 2010 (at least I couldn't get them to as the environment events don't seem to fire in VS 2010).

• Need help optimizing MYSQL query with join

  I'm doing a join between the "favorites" table (3 million rows) the "items" table (600k rows). The query is taking anywhere from .3 seconds to 2 seconds, and I'm hoping I can optimize it some. Favorites.faver_profile_id and Items.id are indexed. Instead of using the faver_profile_id index I created a new index on (faver_profile_id,id), which eliminated the filesort needed when sorting by id. Unfortunately this index doesn't help at all and I'll probably remove it (yay, 3 more hours of downtime to drop the index..) Any ideas on how I can optimize this query? In case it helps: Favorite.removed and Item.removed are "0" 98% of the time. Favorite.collection_id is NULL about 80% of the time.   I have a Marketing service running locally through port 49481 and through IIS on port 65000. Either way when I try to debug into that service, I get an error message - {"There was no endpoint listening at http:/localhost:49481/Marketing.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details."} My inner exception is - {"The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found."} I can open that service address, http:/localhost:49481/Marketing.svc, through a browser and I get a message that it's running ok. My config file is set up like - <endpoint address="http://localhost:49481/Marketing.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_IMarketing" contract="SunriseMarketing.IMarketing" name="BasicHttpBinding_IMarketing" /> What am I missing?

  I am using autobech for doing becnhmark. An example of autobench command is as shown below. autobench --single_host --host1 testhost.foo.com --uri1 /index.html --quiet --timeout 5 --low_rate 20 --high_rate 200 --rate_step 20 --num_call 10 --num_conn 5000 --file bench.tsv The uri which I have to specify has a query attached to it. • Is a program compiled with -g gcc flag slower than the same program compiled without -g?

  I'm compiling a program with -O3 for performance and -g for debug symbols (in case of crash I can use the core dump). One thing bothers me a lot, does the -g option results in a performance penalty? When I look on the output of the compilation with and without -g, I see that the output without -g is 80% smaller than the output of the compilation with -g. If the extra space goes for the debug symbols, I don't care about it (I guess) since this part is not used during runtime. But if for each instruction in the compilation output without -g I need to do 4 more instructions in the compilation output with -g than I certainly prefer to stop using -g option even at the cost of not being able to process core dumps. How to know the size of the debug symbols section inside the program and in general does compilation with -g creates a program which runs slower than the same code compiled without -g?

  I'm using zend framework. currently everytime I need to use the db I go ahead and connect to the DB: function connect(){ $connParams = array("host" => $host, "port" => $port, "username" => $username, "password" => $password, "dbname" => $dbname); $db = new Zend_Db_Adapter_Pdo_Mysql($connParams); return $db } so I would just call the connect() function everytime I need to use the db My question is...suppose I want to reuse $db everywhere in my site and only connect once in the very initial stage of the site load and then close the connection right before the site gets sent to the user, what would be the best practice to accomplish this? Which file in Zend should I save $db in, what method should I use to save it (global variable?), and which file should I do the connection closing in?

• How do you mentally handle going from writing managed to non-managed code?

  ~80% of the code I write is in C#. The other ~20% is in C++. Whenever I have to switch from C# to C++, it takes me quite a while to mentally "shift gears" to thinking in C++. I make simple mistakes using pointers and memory allocation that I would not have made when I was in university. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience something similar and if so, what do you do to cut down on the time this wastes?

  Hello, I'm working on a school project right now. It's meant to be a 3D editing software, (like a very minimized version of Maya). I have to write it in C#, using the 'Windows Application Project'. I intend to implement all the 3D stuff myself, from projections to shading. My question is, how can I get direct access to a single pixel in the C# windows application? I know I'm going to have a main view port in the window. But I haven't decided yet how it will be made. Is there a built in object that I can use, that will let me define the boundaries of the view port, and then paint each pixel individually?   Hi, I need to configure two name-based virtual hosts in my ubuntu pc. If I type the address "http://mypage1" in browser, it should display my first customized html page and if I type the address "http://mypage2", it should display my second customized html page. I tried out the following: 1. installed apache 2. created a file mypage1 inside sites-available with the contents as follows: VirtualHost *:80 ServerName mypage1 ServerAlias http://mypage1 DocumentRoot /var/www/mypage1/html /VirtualHost 3. created a similar file mypage2 inside sites-available 4. ran the commands "a2ensite mypage1" and "a2ensite mypage2" to generate soft links inside sites-enabled. 5. restarted apache using "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart" After doing the above steps, when I type mypage1 in firefox, I get dns_unresolved_hostname error. Kindly help me how to resolve this problem.

• sort giving strange results

  I have an array of email addresses that I am trying to sort, but I'm getting odd results. Here is what I mean: sort($array); print_r($array); ...[79] => 91******@******.com [80] => 9l***@**********.com [81] => ps*******@**********.com [82] => a.c******@*****.com [83] => a.d****@*****.com... What would cause that email beginning with p's to be mixed in after the numbers and before the A's? I removed that email address from the database and replaced it with "testing" and then "testing" appeared in the same position.

  I know that I can't get a specific answer to my question, but I would like to know if I can find the tools to get to my answer. Ok we have a Sql Server 2008 database that for the last 4 days has had moments where for 5-20 minutes becomes unresponsive for specific queries. e.g. The following queries run in different query windows simultaneously have the following results SELECT * FROM Assignment --hangs indefinitely SELECT * FROM Invoice -- works fine Many of the tables have non-clustered indexes to help speed up SELECTs Here's what I know: 1) The same query will either hang indefinitely or run normally. 2) In Activity Monitor in the processes tab there are normally around 80-100 processes running I think that what's happening is 1) A user updates a table 2) This causes one or more indexes to get updated 3) Another user issues a select while the index is updating Is there a way I can figure out why at a specific moment in time SQL Server is being unresponsive for a specific query?

• jQuery: How to collect values from sliders into simple object with id as keys

  I have several jQuery UI Sliders and I want to collect their values. Thought it would be a simple task, but when I was going to do it I got stuck and not quite sure what to do anymore :p The object I would like to end up with should look something like this: { a: 80, b: 90, c: 20, ... } I can do it manually like this: var values = { a: $('#a').slider('value'), b: $('#b').slider('value'), c: $('#c').slider('value'), ... }; But that's a bit tedious, especially if I need to add or remove or rename. Was hoping I could do something with the map or each function or something like that, but I can't figure it out. Anyone have some clever ideas?

• Problem with character encoding on email sent via PHP?

  Hi everybody, Having some trouble sending properly formatted HTML e-mail from a PHP script. I am running PHP 5.3.0 and Apache 2.2.11 on Windows XP Professional. The output looks like this: Agent Summary for Support on Tuesday April 20 2010=20 Ext. Name Time Volume 137 Agent Name 01:27:25 1 138 =09 00:00:00 0 139 =09 00:00:00 0 You see the =20 and =09 in there? If you look at the HTML you also see = signs being turned into =3D. I figure this is a character encoding issue as I read the following at Wikipedia: ISO-8859-1 and Windows-1252 confusion It is very common to mislabel text data with the charset label ISO-8859-1, even though the data is really Windows-1252 encoded. In Windows-1252, codes between 0x80 and 0x9F are used for letters and punctuation, whereas they are control codes in ISO-8859-1. Many web browsers and e-mail clients will interpret ISO-8859-1 control codes as Windows-1252 characters in order to accommodate such mislabeling but it is not standard behaviour and care should be taken to avoid generating these characters in ISO-8859-1 labeled content. This looks like the problem but I don't know how to fix. • Spring Framework HttpRequestHandler failure

  We have an application which communicates via REST requests made by clients. The REST requests contain "region name" and a "ID" as parameters So, a request would look something like this (for a DELETE) http://host:port/regionnameID These REST requests between regions in a federation are properly URL encoded I find that these request fail if the region name has a slash ("/") in it. Then, the request would look like so http://host:port/region/nameID This is due to incorrect interpretation of the Rest URL by HttpRequesthandler when there is a '/' in the region name. Now, we have no control over clients sending REST request with "/" in the Region name. Is there any method / configuration / workaround that can be done to prevent the HttpRequestHandler from returning 404
