  • Sorting a text file by date - Date looks like DD/MM/YYYY

    I am trying to sort the dates from the earliest to the latest. I was thinking about using the bufferedreader and do a try searching the first 2 characters of the string and then the 4th and 5th characters and finally the 7th and 8th characters, ignoring the slashes. The following is an example of the text file I have: 04/24/2010 - 2000.0 (Deposit) 09/05/2010 - 20.0 (Fees) 02/30/2007 - 600.0 (Deposit) 06/15/2009 - 200.0 (Fees) 08/23/2010 - 300.0 (Deposit) 06/05/2006 - 500.0 (Fees)

  • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure.     hi guys, i am tasked with the job of creating client-side validation on a form in an asp.net MVC 2 application, which has a modal window (the modal exists as part of the wrapping form, it is not a form unto itself). how would i go about providing validation for these text field inputs while the modal is visible, but do not validate while the modal is not displayed (as to not cause problems in the rest of the form if the modal window is never required) What is the best approach to achieve this functionality? thanks, Nick

    Dose nHibernate play well with database level cascading deletions? What I mean is that if I have a constraint set at the RDBMS level to cascade delete all orphans, will nHibernate invoke any custom delete logic at the application level if I were to delete an entity though nHibernate? Or should I remove the cascading deletions from the RDBMS level and just use the cascading delete feature of nHibernate itself by defining that behavior though its configuration? Thanks
