• Large PHP enable web form - around 75 field - how best to send email with all fields?

  Have created simple Ajax enabled contact forms before that have around 12 fields - worked fine.... Now working on a PHP enabled web page for job applications that has around 100 fields. The ajax technique I was using was to send request via querystrings (&val1=test;&val2=test2 and etc ...) That is not going to scale very well with larger form with 100+ fields. Any suggestions to point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Maybe use jQuery Form plug-in instead? http://jquery.malsup.com/form/#getting-started Derek

  Here is my simplified model: class Item(models.Model): pass class TrackingPoint(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) created = models.DateField() data = models.IntegerField() In many parts of my application I need to retrieve a set of Item's and annotate each item with data field from latest TrackingPoint from each item ordered by created field. For example, instance i1 of class Item has 3 TrackingPoint's: tp1 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,15), data=23) tp2 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,14), data=21) tp3 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,12), data=120) I need a query to retrieve i1 instance annotated with tp1.data field value as tp1 is the latest tracking point ordered by created field. That query should also return Item's that don't have any TrackingPoint's at all. If possible I prefer not to use QuerySet's extra method to do this. That's what I tried so far... and failed :( Item.objects.annotate(max_created=Max('trackingpoint__created'), data=Avg('trackingpoint__data')).filter(trackingpoint__created=F('max_created')) Any ideas?

• XP OEM licensing when reinstalling Windows XP

  My wife has managed to buy a Dell laptop she was using at her ex-employer that just went bust. The problem with it is the OS (Windows XP) which takes ages to boot and is generally disproportionally slow to the hardware of the machine. So my aim is to sacrifice a day and reinstall it. The problem I am slightly worried about is the licensing/registration/activation hell. Apart from the sticker (with WinXP license key), the laptop has no other paperwork proving this license is legitimate. I believe this was originally an OEM license. Unfortunately, I don't have the the installation CD. This computer also has MS Office installed (which I would like to retain) but it none of MS Office apps would launch due to some obscure error complaining about lack of free disk space (which computer has plenty of). I have absolutely no clue what kind of license this MS Office was. And because the company has gone into the administration, there is no way of getting this information nor installable media. I believe that by buying the hardware I have also acquired the software which I can use as I see fit. Correct me if I'm wrong. Above said, my question would be: What is the easiest way of reinstalling the XP? By easiest I mean avoiding spending my time to prove Microsoft support I've got the right to use the software (insert your computer says noooo joke here) but still being able to get to fresh virgin activated legal state of the XP. I used to work as a sysadmin many years ago so I am not afraid of any technical difficulties. The same question applies to MS Office. I imagine the process would consist of backing up all the data, pulling some bits from the registry and using that on the fresh install. As for reinstall I'd expect to use some sort of OEM Windows repair CD from Dell, right? Are those freely available? My other box (HP) has such a thing and it can't be used on any other brand. I'm sure somebody had to go through this licensing hell and could share his/her tips. Thanks in advance.

• Is Displayport preferable to DVI for monitor connections?

  I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.

  I've found recently that for some types of financial calculations that the following pattern is much easier to follow and test especially in situations where we may need to get numbers from various stages of the computation. public class nonsensical_calculator { ... double _rate; int _term; int _days; double monthlyRate { get { return _rate / 12; }} public double days { get { return (1 - i); }} double ar { get { return (1+ days) /(monthlyRate * days) double bleh { get { return Math.Pow(ar - days, _term) public double raar { get { return bleh * ar/2 * ar / days; }} .... } Obviously this often results in multiple calls to the same accessor within a given formula. I was curious as to whether or not the compiler is smart enough to optimize away these repeated calls with no intervening change in state, or whether this style is causing a decent performance hit.   I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical.   I just got a very quiet Dell Optiplex 960 (with dual monitor video card) and wanted a 3rd monitor (only a PCI slot available). The PCI video card I got has a relatively loud (compared to this quiet PC) fan. I'm looking for a quiet card. Need not be very powerful as it's for the third screen which I don't use for video or games, etc. Any suggestions?

I've use a jQuery mouse position plug in to check the coords and they seem ok. Can anyone help please? Thanks

• Regex matching very slow

  I am trying to parse a PDF to extract the text from it (please don't suggest any libraries to do this, as this is part of learning the format). I have already handled deflating it to put it in the alphanumeric format. I now need to extract the text from the text blocks. So, my current pattern is "BT.*?((.*?)).*?ET" (with DOTMATCHALL set) to match something like: BT /F13 12 Tf 288 720 Td (ABC) Tj ET The only bit I want is the text ABC in the brackets. The above pattern works, but is really slow, I assume it is because the regex library is failing to match the pattern that matches the text between BT and the (ABC) many times. The regex is pre-compiled in an attempt to speed it up, but it seems negligible. How may I speed this up?

  I have been playing around with Silverlight & F# and tried to make a Silverlight 4 application in VS2010 Professional. When I try and compile my application I get the following error message... Error 12 F# runtime for Silverlight version v4.0 is not installed. Please go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=177463 to download and install matching.. For the life of me I cannot find the runtime on this page or a place to download it. Does anyone know of the actual URL

Please wait a short amount of time before attempting to submit again; errorCode=003001; statusCode=403; source=Throttling Policy</ErrorDesc> </Error> </RestResponse> Can't find any reference to a "Throttling Policy" or error code "3001" anywhere in the IPP documentation. Any help is appreciated.

• Which are the Extreme Programming "core" practices?

  Recently, I began reading about agile methodologies and XP in particular. I am a bit confused, though, about what are considered the practices involved in extreme programming. More precisely: Wikipedia reports 12 practices, which I someway believe to be the "classic" ones. Both Kent Beck and Ron Jeffries indicate 13 practices (you can find the links at the bottom of wikipedia page about "Extreme Programming Practices", I cannot post them here since I am new user of Stack Overflow), while this review of Kent Beck's "XP explained" (2nd edition) report more than 20 somewhat different practices. As a complete beginner in the topic (and basically as a complete beginner as a programmer), I would like to be enlightened on the matter. My impression is that I should look at Beck's book, since the second edition has been written after several years of XPerience, but I can find a lot less material based on that.

• magento - multiple tax rates

  I've built a magento site for a Canadian company where each state has a Retail sales tax and a federal tax rate and these rates differ! So, I set up the rates, and the Tax is being calculated correctly, ie the sum of the two tax rates is being calculated correctly. however on selecting the breakdown of tax mode in the admin panel, it would appear that there is something wrong with my setup. Eg. Subtotal $129.99 GST/HST Quebec (5%) $ 16.25 Provincial Sales Tax Quebec (7.5%) Tax $ 16.25 Grand Total $158.23 16.25 is 12% of $129.99 so the tax figure is correct. However it should be displaying as follows: Subtotal $129.99 GST/HST Quebec (5%) $ 6.50 Provincial Sales Tax Quebec (7.5%) $ 9.75 Tax $ 16.25 Grand Total $158.23 Anyone come across this before? Have any suggestions on how to fix it? Many thanks, Fiona

• Where can I buy a good rackmount workstation?

Our department bought a rackmount server for the first unit, but I dont think this is adequate for applications that use graphics (correct me if I'm wrong - we bought a Dell R710). Could you tell me of a good rackmount workstation we could buy for our product? Also, would it be risky for us to build our own rackmount?

• Is Microformat's date-value-pattern fully accessible?

  Has there been an announcement (outside microformats.org) that the value-class-pattern is fully accessible? e.g. given <abbr class="value" title="2008-06-24">this Tuesday</abbr>, will a screen reader say "24 June 2008" or will it say "2008 dash 6 dash 24"? History Microformats came along, and were great, except that dates etc were stored in abbr tags: <abbr class="dtstart" title="20070312T1700-06"> March 12, 2007 at 5 PM, Central Standard Time </abbr>` This lead to screen readers doing ridiculous things as noted in hAccessibility. Now that microformats.org have released the value-class-pattern it's a lot better. But I'm left unable to find a declaration from WaSP (or another accessibility source not directly tied to microformats) that declaratively states that they are now accessible to screen readers etc.
