• How to secure JBoss application server using SELinux

  I want to secure RedHat 5.4 application server by SELinux (targeted policy) and have several questions 1, where can i get SELinux sources (/etc/selinux//src/policy/)There seems to be no such package on install cd .. 2, how to restrict user rights (for example user jboss could not modify /etc/my.cnf) 3, how to configure JBoss application server to work under SELinux Although i read many documents from NSA the whole topic is still not clear for me.What i want is to basically protect filesystem in case one account is broken.I cannot find any materials about securing jboss server using either chroot jail, ACLs or SELinux ....

• Windows 8.1 install error 0x80070002

  I tried to install Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store and got the error 0x80070002. It seems that this error means that the download was not completed. I tried to restart the installation, I tried to clear the windows store cache, I tried to delete every thing in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder, I tried to do a clean boot. It always fails with the same error. As a workaround, is there a way to download windows 8.1 from somewhere else than the windows store?

• Driver for Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1370 on Windows 7

  KVM is a virtualisation package for running operating systems such as Windows on Linux. Windows XP works fine in this, but Windows 7 fails to recognise the sound card. According to the documentation, the soundcard is a Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1370. Does anyone know where I can find a driver for this, or a compatible driver that will run under 7. I've not tried this in Vista as yet.

• Ubuntu suddenly freezes

  I've a strange problem with my ubuntu 10.04 installation. Whenever i boot into ubuntu the entire system freezes / hangs soon after (~ 2 mins in). This problem exists on my windows 7 installation too. However if i start World of Warcraft or Warcraft on windows it doesnt hang for the duration i'm playing the game. After i stop playing and exit the game my laptop hangs inside 2 mins. Here is when it gets weirder. If i disconnect the charger, the laptop doesn't hang. However when I start it in ubuntu recovery mode and drop to root shell and use the 'startx' command everything works perfectly. • Windows 7 is shutting down unexpectedly, according to the logs.

  Here's a message from my eventvwr EventLog (Windows Logs System): The previous system shutdown at 11:51:15 AM on ?7/?29/?2009 was unexpected. This is funny because I was wondering why the system shut down while I was playing Civilizations IV full screen. Now I know. It was unexpected. Has anyone encountered and resolved this? A little background: I am running Windows 7 RC inside VMWare Fusion 2 (just updated a few months back) on a MacBook (Bitterly not Pro) aluminum-body. Windows 7 occasionally will shut down. This isn't a quick turn-off, it's a shutdown where all the programs are exited, the system waits until they quit (and Civ4 doesn't prompt me to save), it even installed Windows Updates before restarting. And yes it is restarting right after the shutdown. Because I run a game in full screen mode I do not notice any dialog with a countdown timer or anything like that that might be a warning. As I have iStat on my dashboard widgets I can see about 8 temperature monitors. I have seen the CPU get up to 74C before, but during the shutdown, though it seemed hot to the touch (always is), it read 61C for the CPU, 60C for heatsink A, 50C for heatsink B and in the 30s-40s for the enclosure and harddrives. As I type this now, the temps are actually higher, so I don't think the temperature caused it. I have at least six such events dating first from 5/17 which was a week after installing Windows 7. I did find one information level warning from USER32 in the system log that says: The process C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe (DLAMBLIN-WIN7) has initiated the restart of computer DLAMBLIN-WIN7 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Operating System: Recovery (Planned) Reason Code: 0x80020002 Shutdown Type: restart Comment: And another 15 minutes before that from Windows Update: Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 15 minutes: - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 Release Candidate for x64-based Systems (KB972260) Which I think kind of explains it. Though I don't know why restarting after an update would create an error event of "shutdown was unexpected", isn't that pretty odd? Now, how do I set it to never restart after an update unless I click something. Application of solution: As fretje reminded me, there's a couple of configurable settings for this, in windows 7 they're much in the same place as in Windows 2000 SP3 and XP SP1. Running gpedit.msc pops up a window that looks like: Windows 7 has changed the order and added a couple of newer options I've italicized: Do not display 'Install Updates and Shut Down' in Shut Down Windows dialog box Do not adjust default option to 'Install Updates and Shut Down' in Shut Down Windows dialog box Enabling Windows Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install scheduled updates Configure Automatic Updates Specify intranet Microsoft update service location Automatic Updates detection frequency Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications Turn on Software Notifications Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation Turn on recommended updates via Automatic Updates No auto-restart with logged-on users for scheduled Automatic Updates Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations. • Windows XP update not working

  I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. • Pairing Sony bluetooth headphones with my laptop

  Hi there, I have the Sony DR-BT50 wireless headphones. I've been able to successfully pair them to my iPhone and play music through them, but no such luck with my PC. I can add it to the bluetooth devices, but when the "Driver Software Installation" screen comes up, I get a red X and "No driver found". Any ideas how to fix this? (I have a bluetooth keyboard & mouse paired successfully, so it's not a problem with my laptop's bluetooth.)

  I can't seem to use gvim on lubuntu. After installing vim with sudo apt-get install vim I cannot seem to start it: $ gvim The program 'gvim' can be found in the following packages: * vim * vim-gnome * vim-tiny * vim-athena * vim-gtk * vim-nox Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package> $ Is this an issue with lubuntu? Is there a workaround? Vim does start in terminal mode, I would prefer gvim though.

  Im trying to setup a minimal desktop with openbox window manager on Arch linux. I noticed these weird font rendering issues with Monaco font. Below font size 13, alternate font sizes are rendered in an aliased, ugly manner. The same Arch installation has no problem rendering Monaco font when running under xfce. some of the characters even look completely different. I tried tweaking my .fonts.conf, but no luck.

  I had Windows Vista on my computer and wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 and thought that I would format my computer since it had been awhile. When I installed Windows 7 it wouldnt let me it would go through all the installation and then when my computer rebooted it would just be black screen with my mouse, I have tried mulitpule times now, and have just gone backs to Windows Vista, this no longer works and does the same thing as when I tried to insta I have a Nvidia GTX 275 video card, ASUS m2N-E SLI mother board,and a AMD 5200 Dual core processor

  I just finished installing ArcGIS Server 10 and completed the post-installation. The ArcGIS Server Object Manager service is installed, but when I try to start it, I get the following error: "Windows could not start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager service on the Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." The agsadmin and agsusers groups exist, and my local account is a member of the agsadmin group. Any ideas on what I've done wrong? Thanks, Jon.

  I always see the configuring ms office with a an endless progress bar, 2 or more weeks after I installed ms office(2000, 2003, 2010 beta). I'm not exactly sure what it is called but it is trying to configure ms office.Or maybe repairing the installation. And it sucks because when I need to access ms word NOW, I can only see that box with the progress bar. And when I press cancel, it won't open ms word, or maybe the whole suite(ms word, powerpoint, excel) What might be a possible solution to this?anyone here who has encountered it before

  I tried to install the just released update of windows 8.1, but after several reboot it said it couldn't install it with the error : windows 8.1 couldn't be installed with error 0xc1900101 0x20006 I don't have truecrypt or bitlocker, just a dual boot with MacOSx86 (hackintosh) and chimera bootloader, I am not sure if it has anything to do with the error. • How to add .plugins to flat-packages

  I'm rewriting my installers to use flat-packages instead of the old package format. pkgbuild doesn't accept my .plugin bundles though. The error is pkgbuild: error: Path "/tmp/installroot/MIDIDriver.plugin" is not a valid bundle component (using destination path "/tmp/installroot)" I tried a lot of different bundles which all were recognized as they should. (.kext, .vst etc.). This problem only appears with .plugin-bundles. Does anyone know what is wrong with these?

• Ubuntu/Windows suddenly freezes

  I've a strange problem with my ubuntu 10.04 installation. Whenever i boot into ubuntu the entire system freezes / hangs soon after (~ 2 mins in). This problem exists on my windows 7 installation too. However if i start World of Warcraft or Warcraft on windows it doesnt hang for the duration i'm playing the game. After i stop playing and exit the game my laptop hangs inside 2 mins. Here is when it gets weirder. If i disconnect the charger, the laptop doesn't hang. However when I start it in ubuntu recovery mode and drop to root shell and use the 'startx' command everything works perfectly.   Is there a way to change the stride and stripe-width options on an ext3 file system under CentOS/RHEL 5.3? There's no way to specify it via anaconda during installation that I saw, and while I see the -E option to tune2fs available under Ubuntu, I don't see it in the manpage on CentOS. I did try to use the -E flag on CentOS and it rejects the flag as unknown if I try to use it. Anyone have any way to do this short of reinstallation?

  I'm running Trixbox CE (v2.6.2.3) and I need to make a full system backup of all configurations, recordings, databases, etc in a manner that can be easily restored on a brand new installation of the same version of Trixbox CE. I started to write something myself using rsync, however I feel like I'm probably missing some things and needlessly copying other things. What are my options?
