• How can I differentiate between smart phones and others?

  Hi all, I'm looking to revamp our mobile site with something simple for phones below the ambiguous smart phone category and something a little more interesting for the phones above this category. I'm not interested in WAP/WML for this project. I'm building a ASP.Net 4 MCV 2 app and using MBDF What I'd like to know is how best to define this differentiation when using MBDF? Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices. What do those of you out there developing for this spread of hardware & software split on? Thanks, Denis P.S. I've done my research on xHTML MP1.0 - 1.2 and the best practises for implementation to ensure broad coverage but I don't want to restrict the newer phones out there to what the base line can see.

• How do I test SendInput in c#

  How can I tell if my call to SendInput is working properly? I have a small snippet below, and the message never seems to get hit. SendInput() returns 1, and there's no errors, so I assume that the message is going out properly. • Using LINQ to SQL with multiple databases

  I am working on a new project and hoping to use LINQ to SQL for the data access but have come across the following issue. I need to have my application access 3 databases with similar but not the same table structure, for example Database1 and Database 2 has a table called tblCustomer with 2 columns CustomerKey and CustomerName Database2 has a table called tblCustomer with 3 columns CustomerKey, CustomerName and CustomerPostCode I am looking for a solution that will allow me a query all three databases without the need for 3 GetCustomerList functions as Database1 and Database2 could use the same function as are the same structure, with an override function for database 3 to bring back the additional field. Is there a way i can declare a base datacontext class to handle Database 1 and 2 with an inherited version for Database 3. Thanks In Advance Stuart Ferguson

• hundreds of databases sql server log shipping

  SQL Server 2005 Standard 64x, with 300+ tiny databases currently (5MB each), user base adds databases as needed. Want to implement log shipping for warm standby, but not via the wizard, since that looks like it adds 3 jobs (1 on primary, 2 on secondary) for each log-shipped database. Do I try to write my own or use something like Quest's LiteSpeed? Or am I being too squeamish about having hundreds of SQL Server Agent jobs and all of them firing off (or worse, would I have to try to time them)? All advice welcome.

The problem is I am trying to include one example.html (common html file) in the next child template by using include but it doesnt work properly. • iPhone - stdint.h file not found!

  I am dealing with a project designed for iPhone OS 2.0 and I am intending to keep compatibility with this version while offering new OS 3.x functionality. When I set the base SDK to iPhone OS 3.1.3 and Target OS for 2.0, Xcode gives me this error during compilation. 'stdint.h' file not found /Developer/usr/lib/clang/1.0.1/include/stdint.h:32:16: fatal error: 'stdint.h' file not found The strange thing is that the file is there, on the path it says it is not. if I set the target OS for 3.x the problem vanishes. how to solver that? thanks for any help.

  I'm wondering which additional security measures one could take besides a traditional login with user and password. What do you think of this one: _manually adding a cookie to each client which includes a secret key _this cookie is not served by the webserver, it is actually copied "by hand" to each client computer _if a client connects to the web-app the server graps that cookie and if the containing secret key is ok, the traditional login box is presented where the user has to enter the user-password combination _communication between client and server is encrypted with https Thus a potential intruder would first need to get the cookie from the clients computer, which is only possible with having access to the clients computer. This would work only for a very small user-base and an admin willing to do this manual work.

  I am trying to get Uploadify working with Rails 3. However, I can't insert the middleware with the correct arguments. • C++ wrapper for posix and linux specific functions

  Hi Do you know about any good library wrapping posix and linux functions and structures ( eg. sockets or file descriptors ) into C++ classes? For example I'm thinking about a base FileDescriptor class and some inheriting classes ( unix sockets etc ) with methods like write, read or even some syscalls ( sendfile, splice ) - all throwing exceptions instead of setting errno. Or some shared memory class etc. I can't seem to find anything like that and by now I consider writing it myself, as I often have to write a C++ app for linux and either use C functions ( painful error checking ), or wrap them myself every time.

• MVC2: Best Way to Intercept ViewRequest and Alter ActionResult

  I'm building an ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application that requires some sophisticated authentication and business logic that cannot be achieved using the out of the box forms authentication. I'm new to MVC so bear with me... My plan was to mark all restricted View methods with one or more custom attributes (that contain additional data). The controller would then override the OnActionExecuting method to intercept requests, analyze the target view's attributes, and do a variety of different things, including re-routing the user to different places. I have the interception and attribute analysis working, but the redirection is not working as expected. I have tried setting the ActionExecutingContext.Result to null and even have tried spooling up controllers via reflection and invoking their action methods. No dice.   I have the following folder structure. myFolder and testFolder have same folders underneath it and I want to exclude only my1 from testFolder and not myFolder "myFolder" which has -my1 -my2 -my3 "testFolder" which has -my1 -my2 -my3 I am trying to use exclude tag along with included folders while creating a tar file. This is what i have, but it does not seem to work. tar -cvf base.tar "/sam/myFolder" "/sam/testFolder" --exclude="/sam/testFolder/my1" I want to exclude my1 from testFolder and not myFolder. can you please suggest a possible solution.

The derived ToolStripButton should behave exactly the same as the parent class in the designer and the application, except that the default image should be different.   I am trying to write a unit test for my one controller to verify if a view was returned properly, but this controller has a basecontroller that accesses the HttpContext.Current.Session. Everytime I create a new instance of my controller is calls the basecontroller constructor and the test fails with a null pointer exception on the HttpContext.Current.Session. • Analysing a Visual Foxpro application to derive requirements. Tools/approaches/practices?

  Hello. In an upcoming project I am supposed to re-engineer a huge application built on Visual Foxpro into a web-application. The target platform is .Net. The application from the end-users' perspective is very complex (complex forms, reports, navigation, etc). The sorry state is that there are no documents available from which I can derive, business processes, business rules, work-flows, validations, application state, etc. I can gather some requirements from end-users but it cannot be complete from any perspective. Maneuvering through the code would be tedious & time consuming, given the millions of lines of code. Therefore I am looking for a tool that can help me in code analysis. My googling attempt didn't help me at least for a Visual Foxpro code base. Besides, I will appreciate if someone can share processes/approaches/techniques to establish the requirements as far as possible. BTW, this link didn't quite help.

  If my Perl code has a production code location and "beta" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, BETA Perl code is in /usr/code/beta/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and BETA versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/beta/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and BETA location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from BETA to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from BETA to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. BETA versions of scripts must call other BETA scripts and BETA libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if BETA libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between BETA and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/beta/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

  I want to use Project Rome to create an RSS feed, using the code from the tutorial as base. I would like to add a pubsubhubbub discovery link, but there doesn't seem to be a general way to do so. I can use a Link object if I create an atom feed (which I don't want to limit myself to), or I can just add foreign markup, like this: // import org.jdom.Element Element element = new Element("link"); element.setAttribute("rel", "hub"); element.setAttribute("href", "https://myhub.example.com/endpoint"); feed.setForeignMarkup(Arrays.asList(element)); But it feels ugly. • How to create a web framework in C# without ASPX?

  I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

  I have a huge website (containing around 5000+) pages. There is a theme functionality in the website where user can choose different colors for their profile. Now i want to use the ASP.net theme feature and put different CSS (for different colors) in the theme folder and in Global.asax i want check the user theme and render appropriate link element with the css. But my problem is, i am not able to access the Page element for adding the link in the page. Here is my code Dim page As System.Web.UI.Page = TryCast(System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Handler,System.Web.UI.Page) page.StyleSheetTheme = "Black" But when i run this code I get a Null reference error. P.s : My application is very huge so its not possible to have a master page or a base class and inherit it in every page. Please suggest.

• How to handle application upgrades from free to paid version while preserving any data

  Here is the context. I want to have a free version and a premium version of the same application. When people buy the application, I want them to be able to "upgrade" without losing their data, i.e. the premium version should install over the free version. I want to use the same code base and just switch a setting to build the premium version. Andoid Market does not let me convert a free app to a paid app, so the trivial option is not available. I am curious if someone has tried this successfully. How does Android Market identify an application - will it think that the premium version is a different app and just install it in parallel?

• Disassemble Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 compiler output

  I'm seeing what I think is strange behaviour from object files output by the Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 tools. The file utility tells me: asmfile.obj: 80386 COFF executable not stripped - version 30821 For objects created by the assembler, but for objects coming from C files, I get just: cfile.obj: data Using Microsoft's dumpbin utility and the objdump I got from cygwin, I can disassemble the assembly-built file, but I get no useful results from either utility for the C-built files. I have a couple of questions related to this difference: What is the object file format generated by the MSVC2003 compiler? How can I disassemble that object file? I am particularly interested in getting the disassembly in AT&T syntax - I'm doing a port of a large source base to make it work with GCC, and I would like to use this method as a shortcut for some of the inline assembly routines in the project.
