• Grub File Stolen ( WINDOWS and OpenSus )

  I have a problem with my computer. I installed OpenSus on my external, and I still have Windows on my HDD. OpenSus took the Grub file and placed it on my external, so now I have to open OpenSus to open Windows. I never got a Windows CD when I bought my computer ( I live in South Africa :) ).... I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my external, but then I will have to format my external in which case I will lose the Grub file causing me to lose Windows, which I can't afford to do... yet. Does anyone have an idea what I can do?

• Trouble installing Ubuntu.

  I have a blank 1TB hard drive that I have run ubuntu on before. I recently formatted it and am trying to reinstall Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on there. Using the Universal USB installer and the 64-bit iso file, I booted up my computer with only my 1TB hard drive connected. I go through the installation process normally, until I restart my computer at the end. Once restarted, I start to experience the problem deal with here. When I run it normally, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. When I select the "Recovery Mode" option, a bunch of lines scroll across the screen, the last of which is "hostap_pci: Registered netdevice wifi0". It then stops there with a blinking cursor. When I follow the instructions on the page I linked to (replacing "quiet splash" with "nomodeset") and bunch of lines scroll through after I press Ctrl+x. The last line displayed is Adding 8386556k swap on /dev/sda5. Priority:-1 extents:1 across: 8386556k It then stops there with a blinking cursor. How do I fix this problem?

• Grub 2, switch os when restarting

  I dual-boot with Windows and Ubuntu. Usually, when I restart my computer, it is to switch os. Is there a way to tell it to Grub so that it preselects the right os in its menu when I restart my computer? Currently, I have the following two lines in /etc/default/grub file : GRUB_DEFAULT=saved GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true These lines make Grub preselects the os I just left. Maybe there is a similar way to tell Grub that I want it to preselect the os I use before the one I just left.

• Server IP must be a LAN IP (Port Forwarding Netgear Router)? [closed]

  I'm trying to set up a server (Apache) on my computer (fairly new to it). As I understand it, for it to be accessible to other computers, I need to forward port 80. When I try to forward the port though, I get the error: Server IP must be a LAN IP. I noticed in ipconfig that my default gateway is different than my wireless router. My computer is not hardwired, not on WiFi. Furthermore, I do not, at this point, have a static IP. I read that it should still work with a dynamic IP until it changes. Any ideas on what I can do? I'm using Windows 7 in case it matters.

• NO USB devices show in windows 8.1 device manager

  Whatever I plug into my USB ports will get power and will charge but will not connect to the computer. I have restarted the computer several times, I re-installed the chipset drivers and still even a USB HDD will not show up under the device manager, not even as an unknown device. I believe this happened because I switched android adb to listen on tcpip rather than USB as this is when the USB ports stopped working. I have set it back to USB but that hasn't seemed to correct the issue. It seems to me that ADB has shut off detection of devices through USB and I am out of ideas and can't find anything useful online. I would prefer not to have to reinstall windows unless I really have to but it is looking like that is exactly what I am going to have to do. I am using windows 8.1. Thanks

• RDC stops working after a period of time.

  I have a workstation with RDC configured for the employee. When they leave at the end of their day they lock the pc (windows key + l). They go home connect to our VPN and log back in. Everything works fine. The following morning they will attempt to log in before they return to the office. The computer does not respond to the RDC request. I've found that it becomes completely inactive to any ICMP requests. Once the user reboots the computer everything works fine again. I'm going to turn off RDC, reboot, turn RDC back on and reboot again to see if it fixes the problem. Until then does anyone have any other ideas?

  This I understand: net use P: \\SOME_COMPUTER\SOME_SHARE net use P: \\1.2.3.4\SOME_SHARE (the second argument is a logical share on the given computer) This, I do NOT understand: net use LPT2: IP_1.2.3.4 (where IP_1.2.3.4 is the name of a "port" assigned to a printer; the IP is a valid and responding device, but the full string "IP_1.2.3.4" is not) Can anyone tell me, is there ever a syntax of NET USE that could operate on a printer port like that? I can't get it to work, can't find anything via Google, and am practically in tears. [Sorry if this is cheating, this is basically a re-post of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1884235/old-school-windows-2000-printing-or-when-is-a-port-name-a-computer but with the scope narrowed just to the main issue at hand.

• I missed allowing ".NET Runtime Optimization Service" while installing a game — could there be any problems?

  I'm using ESET Smart Security 4 on Windows 7. I selected Interactive Mode so it asks me when something needs to connect to my PC. So when I was installing a game named League of Legends, I was away from my computer. When I came back, I saw that the download was finished but ESET was asking whether to allow .NET Runtime Optimization Service to connect my computer using port 80 TCP. So I selected Allow but It was too late because the download was already finished. I can play the game, but could it be bugged or broken or something?

• windows7 cant get to internet( cable connection)

  I'm using a window 7 with wireless & cable equipments to connect to internet, it's been fine for moths. But Three days ago, the local connection ran out of control and i can no longer use the cable to get access to internet. But fortunately the wireless equipment still works. I reinstalled the driver, took off/inserted in the cable, the computer still didn't work. And every time I let the computer diagnose itself, it told me that :"Default gateway is not valid"(or something else, forgive my terrible english XD). If anyone could give any advice, i will be very appreciated. And I'm in california, but i don't know the gateway of this area.

  A few months ago, while writing a paper, I copied some paragraphs created in another computer into a different computer. I guess the formatting was different. Please see the following image: I noticed that a strange formatting has also been imported. I thought it would go away when I select all and choose a format. But the problem did not go away. Now, when I am trying to finish the paper, the weird formatting still remaining. Does anyone have any solution? Also, how to make sure that when we copy something from a file with different Styles, we retain the destination style definitions. EDIT I would prefer a solution where I do not have to re-do the formatting manually.

• Update UI in the main activity through handler in a thread (Android)

  Hello, I try to make several connection in a class and update the multiple progressbar in the main screen. I was first using handler.sendMessage in place of handler.handleMessage but when I had several task in my connectionManager, the progressbar was updated only at the end of all tasks. • iPhone UIWebView local resources using Javascript and handling onorientationChange

  I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle. • BitBlt ignores CAPTUREBLT and seems to always capture a cached copy of the target...

  I am trying to capture screenshots using the BitBlt function. However, every single time I capture a screenshot, the non-client area NEVER changes no matter what I do. It's as if it's getting some cached copy of it. The client area is captured correctly. If I close and then re-open the window, and take a screenshot, the non-client area will be captured as it is. Any subsequent captures after moving/resizing the window have no effect on the captured screenshot. Again, the client area will be correct. Furthermore, the CAPTUREBLT flag seems to do absolutely nothing at all. I notice no change with or without it. Qt's documentation states that: The grabWindow() function grabs pixels from the screen, not from the window, i.e. if there is another window partially or entirely over the one you grab, you get pixels from the overlying window, too. However, I experience the exact opposite... regardless of the CAPTUREBLT flag. I've tried everything I can think of... nothing works. Any ideas?

It was working great until yesterday, when this script starting being VERY slow (like 50 times slower than before). After using strace, i figured out that 90% of the time, the script does mmap/munmap.   Hi, ive been dealing with this for some time now and need your help. well I have an array $arrayAmenities which contains a combination of the following data based on what is fetched from the database: Air Conditioned Bar Brunch Party Room Tea Room Terrace Valet I would like the application to dynamically check the following set of checkboxes based on the data contained in the array. • .NET Exception error, what does this error means?

  I've tried to develop a simple winform utility which is using xml file as its database. I've used VS 2008 express edition, C#. When this utility tries to write into the xml file then this error is displayed on other computer. I've tried to provide System.Xml.dll & System.Xml.Linq.dll in the same folder on the other computer but no use. What does it means? Any solution?   Hi guys I'm trying to paste text right into where the cursor currently is. I have been trying to do what it says at: - http://dev.ragfield.com/2009/09/insert-text-at-current-cursor-location.html The main deal is that I can't just go textbox1.text (etc) because the textfield is in the middle of a custom cell. I want to just have some text added to where the cursor is (when I press a custom key on a keyboard). -I just want to paste a decimal into the textbox... • Explain the Peak and Flag Algorithm

So I ran across this site http://codility.com/ Which gives you programming problems and gives you certificates if you can solve them in 2 hours. The very first question is one I have seen before, typically called the Peaks and Flags question. If you are not familiar A non-empty zero-indexed array A consisting of N integers is given. A peak is an array element which is larger than its neighbours. More precisely, it is an index P such that 0 < P < N - 1 and A[P - 1] < A[P] A[P + 1] . For example, the following array A: A[0] = 1 A[1] = 5 A[2] = 3 A[3] = 4 A[4] = 3 A[5] = 4 A[6] = 1 A[7] = 2 A[8] = 3 A[9] = 4 A[10] = 6 A[11] = 2 has exactly four peaks: elements 1, 3, 5 and 10. You are going on a trip to a range of mountains whose relative heights are represented by array A. You have to choose how many flags you should take with you. The goal is to set the maximum number of flags on the peaks, according to certain rules. Flags can only be set on peaks. What's more, if you take K flags, then the distance between any two flags should be greater than or equal to K. The distance between indices P and Q is the absolute value |P - Q|. For example, given the mountain range represented by array A, above, with N = 12, if you take: two flags, you can set them on peaks 1 and 5; three flags, you can set them on peaks 1, 5 and 10; four flags, you can set only three flags, on peaks 1, 5 and 10. You can therefore set a maximum of three flags in this case. Write a function that, given a non-empty zero-indexed array A of N integers, returns the maximum number of flags that can be set on the peaks of the array. For example, given the array above the function should return 3, as explained above. Assume that: N is an integer within the range [1..100,000]; each element of array A is an integer within the range [0..1,000,000,000]. Complexity: expected worst-case time complexity is O(N); expected worst-case space complexity is O(N), beyond input storage (not counting the storage required for input arguments). Elements of input arrays can be modified. Obviously my assumption is that the beginning or end of an Array can be a peak, is this not the case? • Marshal a C# struct to C++ VARIANT

  To start with, I'm not very familiar with the COM-technology, this is the first time I'm working with it so bear with me. I'm trying to call a COM-object function from C#. This is the interface in the idl-file: [id(6), helpstring("vConnectInfo=ConnectInfoType")] HRESULT ConnectTarget([in,out] VARIANT* vConnectInfo); This is the interop interface I got after running tlbimp: void ConnectTarget(ref object vConnectInfo); The c++ code in COM object for the target function: STDMETHODIMP PCommunication::ConnectTarget(VARIANT* vConnectInfo) { if (!((vConnectInfo->vt & VT_ARRAY) && (vConnectInfo->vt & VT_BYREF))) { return E_INVALIDARG; } ConnectInfoType *pConnectInfo = (ConnectInfoType *)((*vConnectInfo->pparray)->pvData); ... } This COM-object is running in another process, it is not in a dll. I can add that the COM object is also used from another program written in C++. In that case there is no problem because in C++ a VARIANT is created and pparray-pvData is set to the connInfo data-structure and then the COM-object is called with the VARIANT as parameter. In C#, as I understand, my struct should be marshalled as a VARIANT automatically. These are two methods I've been using (or actually I've tried a lot more...) to call this method from C#: private void method1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pcom.PCom PCom = new pcom.PCom(); pcom.IGeneralManagementServices mgmt = (pcom.IGeneralManagementServices)PCom; m_ci = new ConnectInfoType(); fillConnInfo(ref m_ci); mgmt.ConnectTarget(m_ci); } In the above case the struct gets marshalled as VT_UNKNOWN. The problem is that when debugging the "target-function" ConnectTarget I cannot find the data I send in the SAFEARRAY-struct (or in any other place in memory either) What do I do with a VT_VARIANT? Any ideas on how to get my struct-data?
