• How to stream a WAV file?

  I'm writing an app where I record audio and upload the audio file over the web. In order to speed up the upload I want to start uploading before I've finished recording. The file I'm creating is a WAV file. My plan was to use multiple data chunks. So instead of the normal encoding (RIFF, fmt , data) I’m using (RIFF, fmt , data, data, ..., data). The first issue is that the RIFF header wants the total length of the whole file, but that is of course not known when streaming the audio (I’m now using an arbitrary number). The other problem is that I'm not sure if it's valid since Audacity doesn't recognise the file, and Windows Media Player opens the file but plays only a very small part. I've been reading WAV specs but haven’t found an answer. Any suggestions?

• How to change the icon in the title bar in R?

  I just installed R 2.11.0-x64 onto my Windows 7 Professional machine. With my previous installations of R (2.10.1 32 bit was the most recent) the little icon that appeared in the title bar and in the taskbar at the bottom of windows was the R "R." Now however, the icon almost looks like a small windows Task Manager. I know this isn't a code issue, but it affects me as I flip between windows. Is there a way to put the "R" icon back in there? Would it be an R setting or a Windows setting?

  I've worked on a few Java web projects and we've always used Hibernate for our data object layer. I haven't worked on a large scale ASP.NET site and I'm unsure which solution to choose. I'm tempted to try NHibernate, but I don't like the fact that they use so many third party libraries. Name (Text) Value (Text) Group (Group - Is a list of option pulled from a database table) Now the Model for this View looks like so, public string Name { get; set; } public string Value { get; set; } public int GroupID { get; set; } Now the view is Strongly Typed to the above model. What method would one use to populate the drop down list? Since the data is not contained within the Model (It could be contained in the Model) should we be using Temp/View data? A HTML Helper? What would be the ideal way to achieve this.

  I've got some json from last.fm's api which I've serialised into a dictionary using simplejson. A quick example of the basic structure is below. { "artist": "similar": { "artist": { "name": "Blah", "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "small"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "medium"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "large"} } } } Any ideas how I can access the image urls of various different sizes. My attempts at accessing the #text variable don't seem to work because python doesn't appear to like #'s in the names. And any ideas how I can easily get the url for the depending on the size?   Here is the drill, I want to version a database. I have done this before using multiple rows where the table primary key becomes a combination of the row id and either a datestamp or a version #. Now I want to version a table that depends on many other small tables. Versioning each table will be a giant PITA, so I am looking for good options to verion a schema where the data to be versioned spreads over multiple tables. All related tables are properly keyed with foreign key relationships. The database is currently on Sql Server 2005.

• HTML table with fixed cells size

  I have an HTML table which has equally divided rows and columns. I would like each cell to be of a fixed size, say 40px width and 30px height. When I change the size of the browser window, the cells size changes also. How can I prevent it ? I would expect to see the scroll bars if browser's window become too small. Is that right to set the height and the width of the cell in pixels ? Thanks !

  I'm very new to flash and as3 design patterns. But I can read and write as3 quite ok, i've created small widgets with that. I've developed several web sites using php and also python. Now for a educational cd-rom project i'm working on, i've basically designed all templates (A home page, a generic page with navigation and a sidebar - kind of like a wordpress blog). I have all the data for the cdrom on word files, which i intend to place on xml files. My question is what is the best way to start a project like this? Can anyone guide me to a template or something that can be used for kickstarting this? kind of like a wordpress (without the admin)? Or am i on this all wrong? Can someone please help

• Design pattern for mouse interaction

  I need some opinions on what is the "ideal" design pattern for a general mouse interaction. Here the simplified problem. I have a small 3d program (QT and openGL) and I use the mouse for interaction. Every interaction is normally not only a single function call, it is mostly performed by up to 3 function calls (initiate, perform, finalize). For example, camera rotation: here the initial function call will deliver the current first mouse position, whereas the performing function calls will update the camera etc. However, for only a couple of interactions, hardcoding these (inside MousePressEvent, MouseReleaseEvent MouseMoveEvent or MouseWheelEvent etc) is not a big deal, but if I think about a more advanced program (e.g 20 or more interactions) then a proper design is needed. Therefore, how would you design such a interactions inside QT. I hope I made my problem clear enough, otherwise don't bother complain :-) Thanks

  Suppose I need to create my own small DSL that would use Python to describe a certain data structure. E.g. I'd like to be able to write something like f(x) = some_stuff(a,b,c) and have Python, instead of complaining about undeclared identifiers or attempting to invoke the function some_stuff, convert it to a literal expression for my further convenience. It is possible to get a reasonable approximation to this by creating a class with properly redefined __getattr__ and __setattr__ methods and use it as follows: e = Expression() e.f[e.x] = e.some_stuff(e.a, e.b, e.c) It would be cool though, if it were possible to get rid of the annoying "e." prefixes and maybe even avoid the use of []. So I was wondering, is it possible to somehow temporarily "redefine" global name lookups and assignments? On a related note, maybe there are good packages for easily achieving such "quoting" functionality for Python expressions?

• [SOLVED]Port C's fread(&struct,....) to Python

  Hey, I'm really struggling with this one. I have tried to sequentially map the data from Y[0][0] to Cr[MAX][MAX], even printed out the C struct in action but didn't manage to wrap my head around the method used to put the data in there. I've been struggling overnight with this and have to get back to the army tonight, so any immediate help is very welcome and appreciated. Thanks

  I am starting with an Activity based off of this ShakeActivity and I want to write some unit tests for it. I have written some small unit tests for Android activities before but I'm not sure where to start here. I want to feed the accelerometer some different values and test how the activity responds to it. For now I'm keeping it simple and just updating a private int counter variable and a TextView when a "shake" event happens. So my question largely boils down to this: How can I send fake data to the accelerometer from a unit test?

• Is there are standard way to store a database schema outside a python app

  I am working on a small database application in Python (currently targeting 2.5 and 2.6) using sqlite3. It would be helpful to be able to provide a series of functions that could setup the database and validate that it matches the current schema. Before I reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd look around for libraries that would provide something similar. I'd love to have something akin to RoR's migrations. xml2ddl doesn't appear to be meant as a library (although it could be used that way), and more importantly doesn't support sqlite3. I'm also worried about the need to move to Python 3 one day given the lack of recent attention to xml2ddl. Are there other tools around that people are using to handle this?

• Catching KeyboardInterrupt when working with PyGame

  I have written a small Python application where I use PyGame for displaying some simple graphics. I have a somewhat simple PyGame loop going in the base of my application, like so: stopEvent = Event() # Just imagine that this eventually sets the stopEvent # as soon as the program is finished with its task. disp = SortDisplay(algorithm, stopEvent) def update(): """ Update loop; updates the screen every few seconds. """ while True: stopEvent.wait(options.delay) disp.update() if stopEvent.isSet(): break disp.step() t = Thread(target=update) t.start() while not stopEvent.isSet(): for event in pygame.event.get(): if event.type == pygame.QUIT: stopEvent.set() It works all fine and dandy for the normal program termination; if the PyGame window gets closed, the application closes; if the application finishes its task, the application closes. The trouble I'm having is, if I Ctrl-C in the Python console, the application throws a KeyboardInterrupt, but keeps on running. The question would therefore be: What have I done wrong in my update loop, and how do I rectify it so a KeyboardInterrupt causes the application to terminate?

• Creating huge images

  My program has the feature to export a hi-res image of the working canvas to the disk. Users will frequently try to export images of about 20,000 x 10,000 pixels @ 32bpp which equals about 800MB. Add that to the serious memory consumption already going on in your average 3D CAD program and you'll pretty much guarantee an out-of-memory crash on 32-bit platforms. So now I'm exporting tiles of 1000x1000 pixels which the user has to stitch together afterwards in a pixel editor. Is there a way I can solve this problem without the user doing any work? I figured I could probably write a small exe that gets command-lined into the process and performs the stitching automatically. It would be a separate process and it would thus have 2GB of ram all to itself. Or is there a better way still? I'd like to support jpg, png and bmp so writing the image as a bytestream to the disk is not really possible.

• FLEX: UIComponent Click Handler??

  Hello, Thanks for reading. I'm trying to put a label and an image on a UIComponent, side-by-side. I want to use UIComponent for efficiency reasons, and the entire component is more complicated than just a button with an icon. I'm trying to get a click handler on ther entire UIComponent so that when a click happens on either the label or the image, the same [click] event handler is called. If I add a click handler on the root component, it works, but when I introduce space between the label and the image, the space between them becomes un-clickable. I produce the space by using the move(x,y) method for the label and the image with a small gap between the x/y coordinates. Any ideas how to remedy this? Thanks.

  Hi all, I am writing a small script to upload and detect MIME type, using Zend Framework. For the design purpose, I can't use Zend_Form but normal instead. And I simply apply from the manual : $adapter = new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http(); $files = $adapter-getFileInfo(); $mime = $files-getMimeType(); But the system inform that the funcion getMimeType() does not existed. Then, I tried: $adapter = new Zend_File_Transfer(); $files = $adapter-getFileInfo(); $mime = $files-getMimeType(); This time, it didn't work either. So, how can I get the MIME type ?   I made a small static website for my client and now they want me to replace their present dynamic website with the static one. They have Ubuntu with SSH installed on the remote location. Their existing website is running on a Tomcat6 server and the site root is in "/var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT/". My website consists of just static HTML pages. How can I reconfigure/ replace the present website with the one I made? Should I just stop the server and replace the files in the site root with my files?

• interface builder breaks on dual display

  Hi, I frequently connect and disconnect my laptop from a secondary display. Additionally I work in a small group that uses svn to manage xib files. It seems that if you drag a UIView display into a secondary display in interface builder and save the xib then either disconnect that display or open it on a computer with a secondary display in a different postion (left v right of the screen for example) then the view can't be seen/closed/moved. I've found no work around other than attaching a secondary display in the same position. This can be a real pain. Has anyone found a solution to this? thanks.

  Say I have two std::set<std::string>s. The first one, old_options, needs to be merged with additional options, contained in new_options. I can't just use std::merge (well, I do, but not only that) because I also check for doubles and warn the user about this accordingly. To this effect, I have void merge_options( set<string> &old_options, const set<string> &new_options ) { // find duplicates and create merged_options, a stringset containing the merged options // handle duplicated the way I want to // ... old_options = merged_options; } Is it better to use std::swap( merged_options, old_options ); or the assignment I have? Is there a better way to filter duplicates and return the merged set than consecutive calls to std::set_intersection and std::set_union to detect dupes and merge the sets? I know it's slower than one traversal and doing both at once, but these sets are small (performance is not critical) and I trust the Standard more than I trust myself.
