  • Is derived table executed once or three times?

    - by AspOnMyNet
Every time you make use of a derived table, that query is going to be executed. When using a CTE, that result set is pulled back once and only once within a single query. Does the quote suggest that the following query will cause derived table to be executed three times ( once for each aggregate function’s call ): SELECT AVG(OrdersPlaced),MAX(OrdersPlaced),MIN(OrdersPlaced) FROM ( SELECT v.VendorID, v.[Name] AS VendorName, COUNT(*) AS OrdersPlaced FROM Purchasing.PurchaseOrderHeader AS poh INNER JOIN Purchasing.Vendor AS v ON poh.VendorID = v.VendorID GROUP BY v.VendorID, v.[Name] ) AS x thanx

  • SQL Server schema-owner permissions

    - by Andrew Bullock
if i do: CREATE SCHEMA [test] AUTHORIZATION [testuser] testuser doesn't seem to have any permissions on the schema, is this correct? I thought as the principal that owns the schema, you had full control over it? What permission do i need to grant testuser so that it has full control over the test schema only? Edit: by "full control" i mean the ability to CRUD tables, views, sprocs etc Thanks

  • Replication - User defined table type not propogating to subscriber

    - by Aamod Thakur
I created a User defined table type named tvp_Shipment with two columns (id and name) . generated a snapshot and the User defined table type was properly propogated to all the subscribers. I was using this tvp in a stored procedure and everything worked fine. Then I wanted to add one more column created_date to this table valued parameter.I dropped the stored procedure (from replication too) and also i dropped and recreated the User defined table type with 3 columns and then recreated the stored procedure and enabled it for publication When i generate a new snapshot, the changes in user defined table type are not propogated to the subscriber. The newly added column was not added to the subscription. the Error messages: The schema script 'usp_InsertAirSa95c0e23_218.sch' could not be propagated to the subscriber. • Performance optimization for SQL Server: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the ser

    - by tim
We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites.

  • Classic ASP Site Throwing Date Conversion Error After Moving Servers?

    - by leen3o
I am moving an old store from a Win2003 IIS6 server to a Win2008 IIS7 server, moved everything across including database. The front end seems to work just fine, but when I login it has to do pull in data based on date ranges and now from no where I am getting this error? The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value Any ideas why this would do this on the new server and NOT on the old one? No code has changed and the DB is a backup of the one from the old server??

  • How to select records as columns in SQL

    - by Leigh
Hi, I have two tables: tblSizes and tblColors. tblColors has columns called ColorName, ColorPrice and SizeID. There is one size to multiple colors. I need to write a query to select the size and all the colors (as columns) for a that size with the price of each size in its respective column. The colors must be returned as columns, for instance: SizeID : Width : Height : Red : Green : Blue 1---------220-----220----£15----£20-----£29 Hope this makes sense Thank you

  • SQL Server 2008 Dead lock issue

    - by user173552
I got into a deadlock issue where I am struggling find the root-cause...The Deadlock graph suggests that an UPDATE statement became the victim over a SELECT statement... What puzzles me is that the UPDATE statement is trying to acquire an index on some other table that is never referred in update statement... This is how my UPDATE statement looks like... UPDATE Table set col1 = @P1 where col2 = @P2 This statement acquired a X lock on the col2 index, but also tries to acquire an index on a column defined in some other table that is no way related to the UPDATE statement... And the SELECT statement that won the deadlock situation had nothing to do with the table or index in the update statement but tried to acquire an index on the table in UPDATE statement. eventually causing the DEADLOCK.

  • linq to sql loadwith vs associatewith

    - by stackoverflowuser
what is the difference between loadwith and associatewith. From the articles i read it seems that loadwith is used to load addition data (eg all orders for the customers). While AssociateWith is used to filter data. Is that a correct understanding? Also it will be nice if someone can explain this with an example based explanation.

  • Different execution plan for similar queries

    - by Graham Clements
I am running two very similar update queries but for a reason unknown to me they are using completely different execution plans. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but they are both updating exactly the same amount of rows but one is using an execution plan that is far inferior to the other, 4 secs vs 2 mins, when scaled up this is causing me a massive problem. The only difference between the two queries is one is using the column CLI and the other DLI. These columns are exactly the same datatype, and are both indexed exactly the same, but for the DLI query execution plan, the index is not used. Any help as to why this is happening is much appreciated. -- Query 1 UPDATE a SET DestKey = ( SELECT TOP 1 b.PrefixKey FROM refPrefixDetail AS b WHERE a.DLI LIKE b.Prefix + '%' ORDER BY len(b.Prefix) DESC ) FROM CallData AS a -- Query 2 UPDATE a SET DestKey = ( SELECT TOP 1 b.PrefixKey FROM refPrefixDetail b WHERE a.CLI LIKE b.Prefix + '%' ORDER BY len(b.Prefix) DESC ) FROM CallData AS a

  • Return if remote stored procedure fails

    - by njk
I am in the process of creating a stored procedure. This stored procedure runs local as well as external stored procedures. For simplicity, I'll call the local server [LOCAL] and the remote server [REMOTE]. USE [LOCAL] GO SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[monthlyRollUp] AS SET NOCOUNT, XACT_ABORT ON BEGIN TRY EXEC [REOMTE].[DB].[table].[sp] --This transaction should only begin if the remote procedure does not fail BEGIN TRAN EXEC [LOCAL].[DB].[table].[sp1] COMMIT BEGIN TRAN EXEC [LOCAL].[DB].[table].[sp2] COMMIT BEGIN TRAN EXEC [LOCAL].[DB].[table].[sp3] COMMIT BEGIN TRAN EXEC [LOCAL].[DB].[table].[sp4] COMMIT END TRY BEGIN CATCH -- Insert error into log table INSERT INTO [dbo].[log_table] (stamp, errorNumber, errorSeverity, errorState, errorProcedure, errorLine, errorMessage) SELECT GETDATE(), ERROR_NUMBER(), ERROR_SEVERITY(), ERROR_STATE(), ERROR_PROCEDURE(), ERROR_LINE(), ERROR_MESSAGE() END CATCH GO When using a transaction on the remote procedure, it throws this error: OLE DB provider ... returned message "The partner transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". I get that I'm unable to run a transaction locally for a remote procedure. How can I ensure that the this procedure will exit and rollback if any part of the procedure fails?

  • sql and pooled connection error

    - by user319075
Dear all, Kindly look at the following code as this sample code gives an error when i hosted it on Hostexcellence , but locally it runs perfect, and the error is as the following: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "Select Top (3) * from News Order by NewsID Desc"; SqlDataSource1.DataSourceMode = SqlDataSourceMode.DataReader; SqlDataReader r_News = (SqlDataReader)SqlDataSource1.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty); DataGrid_News.DataSource = r_News; r_News.Close(); DataGrid_News.DataBind(); So What's wrong with that code ??

  • Problems with sp_addlinkedserver in MSSQL 2000

    - by manneorama
Hi! I'm having a bit of a problem with moving specific data from one server running MSSQL 2000 (A) and another running MSSQL 2008 (B). I'm writing a script according to customer specifications which is to be executed on A, populating tables in B with data. However, I can't seem to get the server link to work. -- Bunch of declarations here EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = @ServerName, @srvproduct = @ServerProduct, @provider = @ProviderString, @datasrc = @RemoteHost -- Data migration stuff here EXEC sp_dropserver @ServerName Now if I run the script in its entirety I get an error saying: Msg 7202, Level 11, State 2, Line 55 Could not find server 'remoteServer' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers. However, if I higlight only the sp_addlinkedserver-part and execute that, there is no error and I can highlight the rest of the script and run it. What am I missing here? Please help! PS. If backup-restore was an option, I would have done that already.

  • c# - SQL - speed up code to DB

    - by user228058
I have a page with 26 sections - one for each letter of the alphabet. I'm retrieving a list of manufacturers from the database, and for each one, creating a link - using a different field in the Database. So currently, I leave the connection open, then do a new SELECT by each letter, WHERE the Name LIKE that letter. It's very slow, though. What's a better way to do this? TIA

  • Query joining in sql server 2005

    - by Domnic
    I have two queries like: SELECT PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ACCOUNT, COUNT(PC_CHEQUE_NO) CHQS, SUM(CONVERT(FLOAT, PC_AMOUNT)) CHQ_AMT FROM GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES WHERE PC_COMP_CODE = '1' AND PC_DISCD IS NULL GROUP BY PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ,PC_COMP_CODE ORDER BY PC_SL_ACNO -------------------------------------------------- SELECT COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME,PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO, PC_DEPT_NO, PC_DOC_TYPE, PC_CHEQUE_NO, PC_BANK_AC_NO FROM GLAS_PTY_ADDRESS,GLAS_SBLGR_MASTERS,GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES WHERE COAD_COMP_CODE = '1' AND SLMA_COMP_CODE = COAD_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ADDR_ID = COAD_ADDR_ID AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_CODE = PC_SL_LDGR_CODE AND PC_COMP_CODE=SLMA_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ACNO = PC_SL_ACNO AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_YEAR = DBO.GLAS_VALIDATIONS_GET_OPEN_YEAR(PC_COMP_CODE) If I execute first query alone I get 5 records... If I join the above two query like: SELECT PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ACCOUNT, COUNT(PC_CHEQUE_NO) CHQS, SUM(CONVERT(FLOAT, PC_AMOUNT)) CHQ_AMT, COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME FROM GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES LEFT OUTER JOIN GLAS_SBLGR_MASTERS ON( SLMA_COMP_CODE=PC_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_CODE = PC_SL_LDGR_CODE AND SLMA_ACNO = PC_SL_ACNO ) LEFT OUTER JOIN GLAS_PTY_ADDRESS ON( SLMA_COMP_CODE = COAD_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ADDR_ID = COAD_ADDR_ID) WHERE PC_COMP_CODE = '1' AND PC_DISCD IS NULL AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_YEAR = DBO.GLAS_VALIDATIONS_GET_OPEN_YEAR(PC_COMP_CODE) GROUP BY PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ,PC_COMP_CODE,COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME ORDER BY PC_SL_ACNO then I just get 2 records.... I need that 5 records to display after join..... How can I do it?

  • Comparison operators not supported for type IList when Paging data in Linq to Sql

    - by Dan
I can understand what the error is saying - it can't compare a list. Not a problem, other than the fact that I don't know how to not have it compare a list when I want to page through a model with a list as a property. My Model: Event : IEvent int Id string Title // Other stuff.. LazyList<EventDate> Dates // The "problem" property Method which pages the data (truncated): public JsonResult JsonEventList(int skip, int take) { var query = _eventService.GetEvents(); // Do some filtering, then page data.. query = query.Skip(skip).Take(take); return Json(query.ToArray()); } As I said, the above is truncated quite a bit, leaving only the main point of the function: filter, page and return JSON'd data. The exception occurs when I enumerate (.ToArray()). The Event object is really only used to list the common objects of all the event types (Meetings, Birthdays, etc - for example). It still implements IEvent like the other types, so I can't just remove the LazyList<EventDate> Dates' property unless I no longer implementIEvent` Anyway, is there a way to avoid this? I don't really want to compare a LazyList when I page, but I do not know how to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance! :)

  • LINQ to SQL: making a "double IN" query crashes

    - by Alex
I need to do the following thing: var a = from c in DB.Customers where (from t1 in DB.Table1 where t1.Date >= DataTime. Now select t1.ID).Contains(c.ID) && (from t2 in DB.Table2 where t2.Date >= DataTime. Now select t2.ID).Contains(c.ID) select a It doesn't want to run. I get the following error: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. But when I try to run var a = from c in DB.Customers where (from t1 in DB.Table1 where t1.Date >= DataTime. Now select t1.ID).Contains(c.ID) select a OR var a = from c in DB.Customers where (from t2 in DB.Table2 where t2.Date = DataTime. Now select t2.ID).Contains(c.ID) select a It works! I'm sure that there both IN queries contain some customers ids.

  • Passing filtering functions to Where() in LINQ-to-SQL

    - by Daniel
I'm trying to write a set of filtering functions that can be chained together to progressively filter a data set. What's tricky about this is that I want to be able to define the filters in a different context from that in which they'll be used. I've gotten as far as being able to pass a very basic function to the Where() clause in a LINQ statement: filters file: Func<item, bool> returnTrue = (i) => true; repository file: public IQueryable<item> getItems() { return DataContext.Items.Where(returnTrue); } This works. However, as soon as I try to use more complicated logic, the trouble begins: filters file: Func<item, bool> isAssignedToUser = (i) => i.assignedUserId == userId; repository file: public IQueryable<item> getItemsAssignedToUser(int userId) { return DataContext.Items.Where(isAssignedToUser); } This won't even build because userId isn't in the same scope as isAssignedToUser(). I've also tried declaring a function that takes the userId as a parameter: Func<item, int, bool> isAssignedToUser = (i, userId) => i.assignedUserId == userId; The problem with this is that it doesn't fit the function signature that Where() is expecting: Func<item, bool> There must be a way to do this, but I'm at a loss for how. I don't feel like I'm explaining this very well, but hopefully you get the gist. Thanks, Daniel

  • VB working with SQL DB - end of row count, keeps looping

    - by Tramd
I'm adding to a combo box an ID and a name that i'm pulling from a database. My problem is that for some reason my loop doesnt end once it reaches the end of the records in the database table. Here's my code: For intcount = 0 To dtOrders.Rows.Count - 1 cmbSearch.Items.Add(dtOrders.Rows(intcount)("EmployeeID").ToString & " " & dtOrders.Rows(intcount)("EmployeeLastName").ToString & ", " & dtOrders.Rows(intcount)("EmployeeFirstName").ToString) Next Shouldnt the .rows.count - 1 stop it once it reaches the last record? It loops 4 times through.
