  How to make gVim automatically maximize it's window when I open it? And a cross-plataform solution, I'm trying to use the same configs in a Linux and Windows machine... I've tried the hack :set lines=999 columns=999, it almost works, but the window is not maximized, just resized and I lose some rows/columns.

• Computer Locked after period of time

  I have a Windows XP machine that locks itself after an unknown amount of time. I have disabled the screen saver completely, and unchecked "lock computer when coming out of standby". I've even overrode the settings with gpedit. Even still, it locks itself after a while, and it doesn't take long. If it's any sort of hint, the time period for the screensaver is greyed out, even if I choose an actual screensaver.

  I am entertaining building a video wall made out of many android devices. But I have to say I have no clue about how to go about it? The fact that these are android devices is not very important I am curious about the general approach to doing video walls with many separated devices. At best the desktop of one machine should be displayed on all the devices. If not I would be also interested in just showing just a video on that wall.

• Limit display/session resolution for machines @ VDI environment on RDS 2012

  I have couple of windows 7 entprise virtual machines in collection as part of VDI environment - so users connecting to them through RDS 2012 web site. Is there any way to fix resolution of remote desktops, that user receives (instead of full screen all time) ? I've tried different group policies, but none of them are worked, probably because all those policies are for RDS sessions and not virtual desktops ... And i don't know how to limit resolution locally on win7 machine itself, so connecting users will receive fixed resolution.

  hi guys, I want to install netbeans on my freeBSD7.2 machine.I followed the instructions listed in http://typo.submonkey.net/articles/2007/7/13/netbeans-on-freebsd But, when i try the third step, which is running the netbeans using "./netbeans/bin/netbeans" i found the following error "etc/netbeans.cluster" file cann't be found.   When I log in on a Windows 8 machine for the first time with my Microsoft Account (by providing an e-mail address), a new user folder is created: C:\Users\dzinx_000 In previous versions of Windows, I could choose the name of this folder (it was equal to my username). As I use the commandline often, it is quite annoying to me. Can I somehow rename it to dzinx? Does simply renaming the folder break everything?

• Sleep uses more power than I expect

  When my new Dell laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and 4GB RAM sleeps (not when it hibernates), it will drain the battery overnight. My old Dell laptop with XP Pro (2 GB RAM) could sleep for days without running out of battery. Is it normal that Windows 7 sleep is this power-hungry or should I troubleshoot my new machine? Edit: I know how to set the different sleep/hibernate settings. That is not what I'm asking.

  I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

• E-mails sent with postfix are marked as spam.

  I am using gmail as my email provider, and I only have gmail servers for my mx records. I don't like the 500 message per day cap. To address this issue I would like to run postfix on my Linux machine to only send email, port 25 blocked by my firewall. I can send email, however google marks all messages sent with postfix as SPAM. How do I make sure that people know email sent with postfix is valid?

• Recovering files from IIS system (inetsrv) directory?

  Some file from my inetsrv directory (c:\windows\system32\inetsrv) were accidentally removed. Is there a way to get them back? Reinstalling IIS server role doesn't help, because Windows doesn't remove inetsrv directory when removing the role. Copying files from another Server 2008 machine doesn't help neither.

• Keep icons for shortcuts in thumbnail view?

  I want to keep icons for shortcuts in thumbnail view. eg: my pics folder is in thumbnail, but I want to easily see my familiar icons for shortcuts to various outside folders I drag the pics into, amongst the hundreds of pics and subfolders within my pics (which display the same as shortcuts at a glance) I had it like this on my last machine but I can't remember what I had to do.   On Windows Vista, I right-click on a folder, Properties, Sharing tab, and either "Advanced Sharing" or "Share"-"Share" causes an error: Windows File Sharing This program will not run Access is denied. Close My user account is an "administrator" on this machine. I think this behavior changed since my computer was added to the new domain recently. I have other folders shared (from long ago), and they continue to be shared just fine.

  I provide a server (and site) to a client via Rackspace Cloud Hosting, and my client wants to now host the entire thing within his own account. Since it's not possible to just transfer the ownership, I need to somehow create an image of the machine via SSH which I can then use on a new server. Is this possible, and does anyone know of a way of doing this. Note I am talking about virtualised machines here, but I only have access to the virtualised partition and not the system as a whole.

• Cannot see folders on my external drive [closed]

  I have a Windows Vista Home Premium machine, and am using a WD portable drive. My external drive is showing that it is occupying space, but I am no longer able to see any of my folders in there. Out of the 1 TB, its shows that 600 gigs are free, but the folders are gone! Please suggest some way of retrieving the files (I think they're must be some way to retireve them, since the disk utilization shows that something is on the disk). Appreciate your help!

• How could I determine which SMB client/session has a specific file open on a Server 2008R2 Windows file server?

  What I need a way to associate a client name or IP address with an open file, so that I can cleanly close the file for maintenance. NET SESSION doesn't show the names of open files and NET FILE doesn't show the client which has the file open. I had hoped that I could cross-reference the data from these two commands, but that doesn't seem doable. Everything else I've see provides the same data as these commands, with no apparent way to determine which client machine has the file open.

• Passwords longer than 8 letter in Red Hat 4

  I have some machines with RHEL4 Nahant Update 6. Oddly, I found that passwords longer than 8 digits are not stored. So if I had a password 1ABCDEa!, and I changed it to 1ABCDEa!1ABCDEa! I could still log in to the machine with the old password. This machines use NIS authentication, but other machines with Red Hat 5 which use the same NIS server allow login ONLY with the NEW password (16 digits long...)!
