  • How faster is using an internal IP address instead of an external one?

    - by user349603
    I have a mailing list application that sends emails through several dedicated SMTP servers (running Linux Debian 5 and Postfix) in the same network of a hosting company. However, the application is using the servers' external IP addresses in order to connect to them over SMTP, and I was wondering what kind of improvement would be obtained if the application used the internal IP addresses of the servers instead? Thank you in advance for your insight.

  • passing a scalar query result to coalesce

    - by Fakrudeen
    How can I pass the result from a scalar [single row, single value] query to coalesce? I am trying to pick the priority as (the biggest priority so far in the table) + 1. [0 if it is the first row.] create trigger priority_SuperRuleSamples before insert on SuperRuleSamples FOR EACH ROW SET NEW.Priority=coalesce(NEW.Priority, coalesce( select Priority from SuperRuleSamples order by Priority desc limit 1, -1 )+1 )

  • LINQ: How to skip one then take the rest of a sequence

    - by Marcel
    Hi All, i would like to iterate over the items of a List<T>, except the first, preserving the order. Is there an elegant way to do it with LINQ using a statement like: foreach (var item in list.Skip(1).TakeTheRest()) {.... I played around with TakeWhile , but was not successful. Probably there is also another, simple way of doing it?

  • How to create a stand alone command line application with Node.js

    - by Fab
    I'm trying to find a way to use a command line nodejs application that I created on a computer without node.js installed. In other words how to package my application with node.js inside, in order to avoid the users to have node.js already installed. The tipical use case is: I run the application and the application works using the node core that is provide with the application (or the application checks if there is node.js installed, and if not it donwload and install it automatically). Do you have any idea?

    - by datatoo

  • What are the books about Open-Source that everyone interested in should read?

    - by Edu Zamora
    Currently I am working and running my first Open-Source project and though I am quite happy how things are working so far, I have the feeling that a lot of things could be done better. So, what books about Open-Source would you recommend me in order to help filling this gap and making things better every day? What are the books that influenced you the most? I am especially interested in: - How to organize and run an Open-Source project - Best practices - Manage and involve users and developers - How to announce and do the releases - Legal issues

  • How does JSON compare to XML in terms of file size and serialisation/deserialisation time?

    - by nbolton
    I have an application that performs a little slow over the internet due to bandwidth reasons. I have enabled GZip which has improved download time by a significant amout, but I was also considering whether or not I could switch from XML to JSON in order to squeeze out that last bit of performance. Would using JSON make the message size significantly smaller, or just somewhat smaller? Let's say we're talking about 250kB of XML data (which compresses to 30kB).

  • Sort array by two specifics values in PHP

    - by Roger
    The folks have already showed me how to sort an array by a specific value using usort and a fallback function in PHP. What if this specifc value doesn't exist and we have to use two values? in the example bellow the values [4] and [5]... In other words, I want to do this: order all objects numericaly by the fith value of each object from the highest to the lowest, and addicionally, for those objects that have the fifht value is empty (in the examplem '-'), order them by the fourth value. Array( [0] => Array( [0] => links-patrocinados [1] => adwords [2] => 0,5 [3] => R$92,34 [4] => 823000 [5] => 49500 ) [1] => Array( [0] => adwords [1] => google adwords como funciona [2] => 0,38 [3] => R$0,20 [4] => 480 [5] => 480 ) [2] => Array( [0] => links-patrocinados [1] => adword [2] => 0,39 [3] => R$58,77 [4] => 49500 [5] => 2900 ) [3] => Array( [0] => agencia [1] => agencias viagens espanholas [2] => - [3] => R$0,20 [4] => 58 [5] => - ) [4] => Array( [0] => agencia [1] => era agencia imobiliaria [2] => - [3] => R$0,20 [4] => 73 [5] => - ) )

  • Is there a work around for invalid octal digit in an array?

    - by sircrisp
    I'm trying to create an array which will hold the hours in a day so I can loop through it for a clock. I have: int hourArray[24] = {12, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11}; I am getting the error on the following numbers in order 08, 09, 08, 09. It tells me: Error: invalid octal digit I've never run into this before and I'm wondering if there is any way around it?

  • Poor performance / speed of regex with lookahead

    - by Hugo Zaragoza
    I have been observing extremely slow execution times with expressions with several lookaheads. I suppose that this is due to underlying data structures, but it seems pretty extreme and I wonder if I do something wrong or if there are known work-arounds. The problem is determining if a set of words are present in a string, in any order. For example we want to find out if two terms "term1" AND "term2" are somewhere in a string. I do this with the expresion: (?=.*\bterm1\b)(?=.*\bterm2\b) But what I observe is that this is an order of magnitude slower than checking first just \bterm1\b and just then \bterm2\b This seems to indicate that I should use an array of patterns instead of a single pattern with lookaheads... is this right? it seems wrong... Here is an example test code and resulting times: public static void speedLookAhead() { Matcher m, m1, m2; boolean find; int its = 1000000; // create long non-matching string char[] str = new char[2000]; for (int i = 0; i < str.length; i++) { str[i] = 'x'; } String test = str.toString(); // First method: use one expression with lookaheads m = Pattern.compile("(?=.*\\bterm1\\b)(?=.*\\bterm2\\b)").matcher(test); long time = System.currentTimeMillis(); ; for (int i = 0; i < its; i++) { m.reset(test); find = m.find(); } time = System.currentTimeMillis() - time; System.out.println(time); // Second method: use two expressions and AND the results m1 = Pattern.compile("\\bterm1\\b").matcher(test); m2 = Pattern.compile("\\bterm2\\b").matcher(test); time = System.currentTimeMillis(); ; for (int i = 0; i < its; i++) { m1.reset(test); m2.reset(test); find = m1.find() && m2.find(); } time = System.currentTimeMillis() - time; System.out.println(time); } This outputs in my computer: 1754 150

  • Wordpress Events List Date Problem

    - by Roger
    Hi, I'm having a problem displaying events in the correct order in wordpress. I think the problem is because wordpress is treating the date as a string and ordering it by the day because it's in british date format. The goal is to display a list of future events with the most current event at the top of the list. But I must use the british date format of dd/mm/yyyy. Do I need to go back to the drawing board or is there a way of converting the date to achieve the result I need? Thanks in advance :) <ul> <?php // Get today's date in the right format $todaysDate = date('d/m/Y');?> <?php query_posts('showposts=50&category_name=Training&meta_key=date&meta_compare=>=&meta_value=' . $todaysDate . '&orderby=meta_value&order=ASC'); ?> <?php if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?> <li> <h3><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"> <?php the_title(); ?> </a></h3> <?php $getDate = get_post_meta($post->ID, 'date', TRUE); $dateArray = explode('/', $getDate); ?> <?php if($getDate != '') { ?> <div class="coursedate rounded"><?php echo date('d F Y', mktime(0, 0, 0, $dateArray[1], $dateArray[0], $dateArray[2])); ?></div> <?php } ?> <p><?php get_clean_excerpt(140, get_the_content()); ?>...</p> <p><strong><a class="link" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>">For further details and booking click here</a></strong></p> </li> <?php endwhile; ?> <?php else : ?> <li>Sorry, no upcoming events!</li> <?php endif; ?>

  • Is there any way to group edit buttons in MediaWiki?

    - by Mark Robinson
    Is there any way to group the edit buttons displayed above the edit dialog in MediaWiki? By grouping, I mean like Word does (and even this editor) - you can add dividing lines to group them so that e.g. Bold and Italic are in one group, numbered list and bullet points in another. We've added lots of new buttons (in EditPage.php) and they are in a logical order, but at 30 buttons it is a bit overwhelming for some users.
