• How can I integrate Octopress into my Rails app?

  I'm diving into web development and I built my personal website using Ruby on Rails 3.1 and I'd like to add a blog to it. Octopress sounds really awesome, and it's written in Ruby, but I can't find a single resource online that discusses integrating Octopress into a Rails app. I know that's not what it was designed for, but I'm amazed there's no discussion on it considering the popularity of these two technologies. The only resources I can find are discussions on using Octopress to create a stand-alone blog website. How can I integrate Octopress into my existing Rails 3.1 app? Can I set it up as a stand-alone website and integrate it as a sub-domain? Other suggestions? Thanks so much in advance for your wisdom!

• Is Kohana worth giving up on due to lack of Documentation & Examples?

  Hello, I've recently chose Kohana for a new project I'm doing And quite frankly, it's going a bit slow due to lack of resources. I've stumbled again and again on problems that I can't find a solution to Examples are probably the hardest to come by, so I'm considering Switching, especially because I'm only starting and I am still able to do it without to much trouble. I've been looking at CodeIgniter, although I know that Kohana is a branch out, CodeIgniter has far more examples and documentation, I'm wondering about your opinion. Edit: I would love to see some complete Kohana sites example, so that I would have a really quick reference. Nothing like already-working code to give you inspiration.

• Changing Color with LinearLayout and TextView in Java (Android)

  I'm a relatively new Android developer and I noticed what seems like an oddity to me that I'm hoping someone can explain. I have LinearLayout ll. This line of code fails for me when executed: ll.setBackgroundColor(R.color.white); However this line of code works: ll.setBackgroundResource(R.color.white); I assume its simply because I have white defined in my resources. However, I've also tried passing 0xFFFFFF in setBackgroundColor() and that doesn't work either. Similarly with my TextView text this line of code fails when executed: text.setTextColor(R.color.white); I can see my TextView so I know I initialized it correctly (like my LinearLayout which I can also see). So I guess my question boils down to: How do I properly use LinearLayout.setBackgroundColor() and TextView.setTextColor() ? Thanks a ton in advance. I've read through the docs and tried to find information online via googling and haven't come up with anything.

I see that I can add layers to the Map control, but is there a way to add a Raster image to a map control? • installing NUMPY for Mac OSX 10.7. (Lion) for use with Python

  I Need to use nltk and numpy with Python. I am a newbie to Python and initially used the python 2.7.3 that came with my mac (currently running OSX 10.7.5). I learned that the apple version of python may not be robust so I downloaded the standard version from python.org. I have downloaded the nltk program for Mac OSX 10.7. This seemed to install fine. I am trying to download and install numpy using the instructions from the scipy website. http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X. I cloned numpy from github but when I tried to build it using the following command $ python setup.py build I received the following error MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory I also tried to build it using the scons command $ python setupscons.py scons --jobs=2 and received the following error /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setupscons.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Can anyone think of a possible workaround?

• How to access a XML file in a maven project so it stays available when packaged

  I currently started working on a maven web-app project that needs to be launched with the jetty:run-exploded goal for development/debugging in eclipse. Now, I have an XML file which contents I need to access at runtime. My problem is: where to put the file so that the code that does the reading works both in "exploded" and packaged (i.e. in the WAR) mode? Putting the file in src/main/java (so as to be in the classpath) won't cut it since maven filters out all non-java files on packaging. When the file is in src/main/resources, one mean would be to figure out the root path of the project (during eclipse development) and look into that directory - but this won't be the case anymore when the project will be packaged. Of course I could go into writing code that tries to read the file from both locations, but this seems rather cumbersome. Any suggestions?

  Hi! I have a problem about release build I'm using Visual Studio 2005. The project is worked on MFC When I build the project what I working in debug mode, It builds done successfully. but in release mode, Output window shows next 1Compiling resources... 1Linking... 1Generating code and then.. it doesn't pass. It seems like be stoped. After 20 min ,I just canceld build. It has been built well before. I just added some files(.h .cpp) and resorces(.bmp), not special code and it happened. Do you have any idea about that? please help me

  Building a ASP.NET MVC site and I would like to add some values to my .resx file at run time. I have tried: IResourceWriter writer = new ResourceWriter("myResources.resources"); writer.AddResource("String 3", "Third String"); writer.Close(); This code compiles and executes fine but after I close the website and look at the .resx file it is corrupt and I must re-create the .resx file again.   I have been searching pretty hard for info out on the net to explain exactly what Restful routing is but I haven't had any success. There are a lot of resources but not a who lot make sense to me. I'm familiar with Ruby On Rails's routing system and well as how Code Igniter and PhpCake route things but is there more to it than having a centralized location where you give out routes based on a directory structure?   I'm new to c# programming.. I'm using windows form application c# .net I have been given a .resources file. it contains 2 columns 1) key and 2) values. I have brought the contents of this file into a datagrid using dynamic table in between and using resource manager. Now i have to edit the value column in the datagrid and if i click on a GENERATE button i should create a new resource file and it has to be stored as a file. I'm loading the image like this: if (child.Name == "photo" && child.Attributes["href"] != null && File.Exists(child.Attributes["href"].Value)) { Image image = new Image(); image.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(child.Attributes["href"].Value, UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute)); images.Add(image); } Where the "child" object is an XmlNode which could looks like this <photo name="info" href="Resources\Content\test.png"/> During debug it seemd images is filled with actual images but when I want to see them in any way it shows nothing. Weird thing is when I include the images in my project it does work, I however dont want to do that since my point for using an xml file is so that it would be lost since you'd have to rebuild the program anyway after a change.

• JVM specification and Java compiler code useful for SCJP preparation ?

  I'm preparing the SCJP exam with the almost official study book ("SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065") I understand that Java programming is writting code that fulfills a certain high-level contract; So that Java can stay platform-independent. However, I have trouble understanding and remembering things when it comes to highly specific SCJP items (and they are numerous) The book stays high-level and does not provide examples of how one compiler would handle things. This is the same thing for runtime issues (JVM level): things are too much abstract for me. Rules often seems arbitrary and therefore, with no well defined purpose, are difficult to remember. Or maybe it's that sometimes I just don't get the underlying purpose. And here is the question: Would a JVM specification and/or some java compiler code help in preparing the SCJP? Have you had the need for such material or is the book sufficient enough? Also, please share the resources you used, apart from the book.

• How would I implement separate databases for reading and writing operations?

  I am interested in implementing an architecture that has two databases one for read operations and the other for writes. I have never implemented something like this and have always built single database, highly normalised systems so I am not quite sure where to begin. I have a few parts to this question. 1. What would be a good resource to find out more about this achitecture? 2. Is it just a question of replicating between two identical schemas, or would your schemas differ depending on the operations, would normalisation vary too? 3. How do you insure that data written to one database is immediately available for reading from the second? Any further help, tips, resources would be appreciated. Thanks.

• How to setup Expression Blend 3 add-in window at certain position ?

  For example in Sketchflow add-in there is ApplicationFlowPane (derrived from PrototypingPane) which registers itself using IWindowService like this: service.RegisterPalette(this.PaletteRegistryName, this, this.Caption, this.KeyBinding); But i can't see where it is defined that it is docked on bottom pane. Before someone replies that it's at: %AppData%\Microsoft\Expression\Blend3\Workspaces No it's not there because those files do not exists at first run. The question is how can i put my window at certain position with Expression Blend 3 plug-in api ? update 1: It seems that to achive what i want i have to change design.xaml (where workspaces are defined) which is loaded from satellite assembly Microsoft.Expression.Blend.resources.dll (method load in class FrameworkPackage in Microsoft.Expression.Blend.dll). But since this dll is strongly named i can't change it. So now the question is. Is there any other way I can change Design Workspace at runtime ?

My structure is set up as follows: GetResources() - returns a list of Resources. GetResources().ResourceNames - this is the child, which is an entity collection. GetResources().ResourceNames - a property of one record of this child is Name.   Anyone knows some design patterns for hierarchical structures? For example, to manage inventory categories, accounting chart of accounts, divisions of human resources, etc.. I am looking for a better way of dealing with hierarchical items to which they should apply operations depending on the level of hierarchy. I have been studying the patterns by Martin Fowler, for example Accounting, but I wonder if there are other more generic. The problem is that operations apply to the items must be possible to change even at run time and may depend on other external variables. I thought of a kind of strategy pattern but would like to combine it with the fact that it is a hierarchical scheme. I would appreciate any reference to hierarchical patterns and you'll take care of them in depth.

Error: undefined method `name' for nil:NilClass. Here's my reasoning. The parameter :id is coming from my url path (i.e. we're looking for customer #3 in the above path). @customer should find that array easily, then @customer.name should produce the name, but apparently @customer is blank. Why? I assume the problem is that I'm not producing an array in my controller?

• Get license file from a folder in C# project

  I have a license file that I need to access at runtime in order to create pdf-files. After I have created the in memory pdf, I need to call a method on that pdf to set the license, like this: pdf.SetLicense("pathToLicenseFileHere"); The license file is located in the same project as the.cs-file that creates the pdf, but is in a separate folder. I cannot get this simple thing to behave correctly, which makes me a bit sad, since it really shouldn't be that hard. :( I try to set the path like this: string path = @"\Resources\File.lic"; But it just isn't working out for me.

  I am already using output caching in my ASP.NET MVC application. Page speed tells me to specify HTTP cache expiration for css and images in the response header. I know that the Response object contains some properties that control cache expiration. I know that these properties can be used to control HTTP caching for response that I am serving from my code: Response.Expires Response.ExpiresAbsolute Response.CacheControl or alternatively Response.AddHeader("Expires", "Thu, 01 Dec 1994 16:00:00 GMT"); The question is how do I set the Expires header for resources that are served automatically, e.g. images, css and such?
