  I need to run a set of tests against the same ruby version and same gemset but with different versions of a .so library. Therefor I need to have two ruby installations (for the same version 1.8.7), each one pointing to a different set of .so files. How can I do that? Gemset usage is already too late because library binding is done when rvm install installs a ruby version.

• Can't import matplotlib

  I installed matplotlib using the Mac disk image installer for MacOS 10.5 and Python 2.5. I installed numpy then tried to import matplotlib but got this error: ImportError: numpy 1.1 or later is required; you have 2.0.0.dev8462. It seems to that version 2.0.0.dev8462 would be later than version 1.1 but I am guessing that matplotlib got confused with the ".dev8462" in the version. Is there any workaround to this?

  I'm trying to build an JEE6-application on Glassfish V3, using JSF 2.0, Weld, JPA2 and Maven. Now i'm having trouble getting a simple <a4j:support> running. This is the fragment of my little example. When typing something into the inputtext, the outputtext should automatically be updated. • NDepend: How to not display 'tier' assemblies in dependency graph?

  I was able to do this in an earlier version of nDepend by going to tools-options and setting which assemblies would be part of the analysis (and ignore the rest). The latest version of the trial version of nDepend lets me set it, but it seems to ignore the setting and always analyze all assemblies whether I want it to or not. I tried to delete the "tier" assemblies by moving them over to the "application assemblies" list, but when I delete them out of there, they just get added back to the "tier" list, which I can't ignore. I don't want my dependency graph to contain assemblies like "system," "system.xml," and "system.serialization!" I want only MY assemblies in the dependency graph! Or is that a paid-version feature now? Is there a way to do what I'm talking about?

• Have Rails 2.3.x ignore the i18n gem

  I have a Rails 2.3.5 project that uses the localization features of Rails. I also happen to have Rails 3 beta installed (which depends on the i18n gem). Rails 2.3.5 will happily handle localization on it's own (without i18n installed), however if the i18n gem is available, it makes use of it. Recently I upgraded my gems and now have version 0.3.7 and 0.4.0 of i18n installed. Rails, of course, wants to load and use the latest version which is causing errors in my project. I tried setting the gem version to 0.3.7 which gets around the errors in the web app. However, we're using resque and resque_mailer to delay the sending of messages. When the worker picks up the mailer job from the queue, it ignores my config.gem requirement in environment.rb and uses version 0.4.0 anyway. Ideally, I'd like to tell Rails to just not use the i18n gem at all. How do I do that?

  How can I determine if my client is running OpenJDK with a web plugin? I've tried java.version and the rest of the properties listed here. Running java -version from the terminal works fine, but if I went this route, java would have to be on the user's path, which I don't know if I can trust entirely. Is there any other way to see the string given by java -version programmatically, without shelling out to the command line or terminal? Right now, when I run System.getProperties().getProperty("java.version"), I get Sun Microsystems Inc.!

• Hierarchy / Flyweight / Instancing Problem in Python

  Here is the problem I am trying to solve, (I have simplified the actual problem, but this should give you all the relevant information). I have a hierarchy like so: 1.A 1.B 1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.F (This is hard to illustrate - each number is the parent, each letter is the child). Creating an instance of the 'letter' objects is expensive (IO, database costs, etc), so should only be done once. The hierarchy needs to be easy to navigate. Children in the hierarchy need to have just one parent. Modifying the contents of the letter objects should be possible directly from the objects in the hierarchy. There needs to be a central store containing all of the 'letter' objects (and only those in the hierarchy). 'letter' and 'number' objects need to be possible to create from a constructor (such as Letter(**kwargs) ). It is perfectably acceptable to expect that when a letter changes from the hierarchy, all other letters will respect the same change. Hope this isn't too abstract to illustrate the problem. What would be the best way of solving this? • ffmpeg add two audio streams to video

  I tried this: ffmpeg -i /sdcard/video/transcode/video.avi -map 0:0,0 -i /sdcard/video/transcode/first.mp3 -map 1:0,1 -i /sdcard/video/transcode/second.mp3 -map 2:0,2 -acodec copy -vcodec py /sdcard/video/transcode/Output.avi to add two audio streams to one video file. But ffmpeg says the number of mappings should match the number of output streams. What is wrong here? I'm trying to work with an Android build of FFmepg "ffmpeg for android beta". "Does not work" means that this uncommunicative Android build of FFmpeg just stops without giving any error message. The -codec copy option does not work with this build. Now I tried the same set of files with the FFmpeg called command line tool that comes with Ubuntu 10. Something (can't say where it is from). The -codec copy option does not work with this FFmpeg too. By the way, ffmpeg -i input_with_first_audio_stream.avi -i second.mp3 -acodec copy -vcodec copy output_two_audio_streams.avi -newaudio works with both versions of ffmpeg that I use, but the first audio stream is played too fast (x10 or more), while the second audio stream is played correct. I will try to compile an up to date version of ffmpeg with Ubuntu, but I don't have much free time.

• How can I modify my code to line through the bezier control points?

It's all working fine, but I cannot figure out how to get my lines to go through the center of the control points (blue dots) when the line is not straight. • Help using RDA on a Desktop Applicaton?

  I have a .NET 3.5 Compact Framework project that uses RDA for moving data between its mobile device's local SqlCe database and a remote MSSql-2008 server(it uses RDA Push and Pull). The server machine a virtual directory with sqlcesa35.dll (v3.5.5386.0) setup for RDA. We usually install these cabs on the mobile devices and the RDA process does not have any problems: sqlce.wce5.armv4i.cab sqlce.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab Now I am trying to run this application as a desktop application. RDA Pull (download) has been working well. But the RDA Push (upload) is giving me some problems. This is the exception that I get on the desktop application when I try to use RDA Push: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException The Client Agent and Server Agent component versions are incompatible. The compatible versions are: Client Agent versions 3.0 and 3.5 with Server Agent versions 3.5 and Client Agent version 3.5 with Server Agent version 3.5. Re-install the replication components with the matching versions for client and server agents. [ 35,30,Client Agent version = ,Server Agent version = ] I have tried copying the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Desktop\SqlServerCe.dll (v3.5.5692.0) to bin\debug I have also tried copying another version of SqlServerCe.dll (v3.0.5206.0) to bin\debug. But this just gives me a slightly different exception: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException [ 35,30 ] Is there a different setup or any different dlls that I need to use? Thanks, -Joel

• Sharing a mex64 file across computers

  I have a mex64 dll compiled on my machine. I used Matlab 2009b with VS2008 Pro to compile the dll. The dll works fine on my Matlab installation. I want a colleague to use the dll so I sent it to him and he gets the following error message when trying to use the dll: ??? Invalid MEX-file 'filename.mexw64': The specified module could not be found. My current assumption is that this is caused because he uses an older Matlab version or missing a dll that I have. I ran dependency checker and asked him to check that he has all the listed dlls. I am still waiting for him to confirm his Matlab version. What other reasons can cause this and can the Matlab version make a difference? (I mean R2009a when I have R2009B and not a huge version diff)

  I'm making a generator of LL(1) parsers, my input is a CoCo/R language specification. I've already got a Scanner generator for that input. Suppose I've got the following specification: COMPILER 1. CHARACTERS digit="0123456789". TOKENS number = digit{digit}. decnumber = digit{digit}"."digit{digit}. PRODUCTIONS Expression = Term{"+"Term|"-"Term}. Term = Factor{"*"Factor|"/"Factor}. Factor = ["-"](Number|"("Expression")"). Number = (number|decnumber). END 1. So, if the parser generated by this grammar receives a word "1+1", it'd be accepted i.e. a parse tree would be found. My question is, the character "+" was never defined in a token, but it appears in the non-terminal "Expression". How should my generated Scanner recognize it? It would not recognize it as a token. Is this a valid input then? Should I add this terminal in TOKENS and then consider an error routine for a Scanner for it to skip it? How does usual language specifications handle this?

  Been following the Core Data tutorial on Apple's developer site, and all is good until I have to add something to the fetched store. I am getting this error after a successful build and load when I try to add a new item to the list: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section 0. The number of rows contained in an existing section after the update (0) must be equal to the number of rows contained in that section before the update (0), plus or minus the number of rows inserted or deleted from that section (1 inserted, 0 deleted). Due to the fact that the fetch goes through fine, and that if I replace the fetching with eventList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init] it works as expected (without persistance, of course), I am led to believe that the problem comes from not creating the Mutable Array correctly. • How does an NSTextField know that it's value has changed?

  I have a textfield that can either be edited by hand, or set through another control. (It's a page number, so you can jump to page 16 by typing in 16, or you can page up and down with the next/prev buttons) I have the value of the text field bound to an int page variable. It seems to work correctly, when you type a page number in, it jumps, when you page up and down, the page number in the text box changes appropriately. However, at some level, when I page up and down, the text box doesn't seem to know that it's value has changed, because if I type 1 it doesn't do anything. It doesn't call the bound set-method or anything. It looks like the textfield is thinking "I'm already 1, so I don't need to do anything." Even though it was 5 because I hit next 4 times. If I type an number other than 1, it goes there. If I THEN type 1, it goes to page 1, because now it thinks it's on that other page. The problem seems to be that I'm changing the value of the textfield programatically, but some part isn't getting the message. Does this seem like a reasonable explanation? And either way, any ideas on what's causing it? thanks

  I'm developing an iPhone application in Titanium, and need to append a row to a particular TableViewSection. I can't do this on page load, as it's done dynamically by the user throughout the lifecycle of the application. The documentation says that the TableViewSection has an add method which takes two arguments, but I can't make it work. Since the documentation says that TableViewSection takes in "view" and "row", I tried the following: for(var i = 0; i <= product_count; i++){ productsTableViewSection.add( Ti.UI.createView({}), Ti.UI.createTableViewRow({ title:'Testing...' }) ); } The above code doesn't throw the exception, but it gives a [WARN]: [WARN] Invalid type passed to function. expected: TiUIViewProxy, was: TiUITableViewRowProxy in -[TiUITableViewSectionProxy add:] (TiUITableViewSectionProxy.m:62) TableViewSections don't seem to support any methods like appendRow, or insertRow, so I don't know where else to go with this. I've looked through the KitchenSink app, but there are no examples that I could find of adding a row to a TableViewSection. Any help is appreciated.

• InstallExecuteSequence cache interferes with custom action operation

  I need to upgrade a product that could be installed in per-user context to a new version that is always in per-machine context. The requirements are: Whether the old version was installed in a Per-User (no matter who) or Per-Machine context should be completely seamless to an administrator user that performs the upgrade. The MSI upgrade should succeed without the need to know the password of the user that originally installed the previous version of the product in a Per-User context. The installation should be performed from a single .msi file (no setup.exe is allowed). The installation should be able to run in a silent (non-UI) mode. No reboots are allowed during installation. My strategy is to find in the beginning of the installation whether the product is already installed in per-user context, and if so, to transform the registry keys manually to Per-Machine context (I checked: no additional changes such as file system changes etc. are needed except this transform). I figured out how to move all appropriate keys in the registry from the user settings to the machine settings (pre-loaded appropriate user hive in case it didn't appear in HKEY_USERS) and created custom action that does it - and it does work when I run it as a stand-alone executable before running the MSI. The problem, however, is that when Windows Installer runs InstallExecuteSequence it first creates a 'cached product context' for all products. So when my custom action runs in the course of InstallExecuteSequence, this cache has already been created. Thus FindRelatedProducts action that determines if older product with same upgrade code exists looks on that cache and ignores the changes that my custom action applied. If before running the MSI the previous product was in per-user context, FindRelatedProducts will look at the cache and not apply the upgrade and remove the previous version, because the new product is in per-machine context, even though the previous product version is already configured to per-machine context in the registry by that time by my custom action. What can be done to solve this problem without violating the requirements stated above?

I'm a complete novice with programming and I'm trying to get started with this Ruby on Rails tutorial (http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book?version=3.2) I have been trying figure this out for about 7 hours now and since I don't have any hair left to pull out I'm turning to these hallowed pages. I have searched for solutions here again and again. System: Mac OS X 10.7.5 Leopard, Xcode 4.5.2 I installed homebrew and have updated it multiple times I used homebrew to install rvm and have updated it multiple times I installed git The standard ruby on the system (checking with $ ruby -v) is 1.8.7 My problem is that every time I try to use rvm to install a new version of Ruby ($ rvm install 1.9.3) I get the following error: Ruby (and needed base gems) for your selection will be installed shortly. Xcode and gcc: Right now Ruby requires gcc to compile, but Xcode 4.2 and later no longer ship with gcc. Instead they ship with llvm-gcc (to which gcc is a symlink) and clang, neither of which are supported for building Ruby. Xcode 4.1 was the last version to ship gcc, which was /usr/bin/gcc-4.2. Xcode 4.1 and earlier: - Ruby will build fine. I have tried to install rvm make with something I saw on one forum post but I got a bunch of warnings. If anyone has any suggestions I would be deeply grateful, I am completely in over my head,

• Problem saving file on Motorola Droid, Android 2.1?

  Two of my users have reported a problem with my Android application, OftSeen Gestures. Both of them are using a Motorola Droid. The app saves a text file which is just a list of gesture names and phone numbers, both strings. It saves the file to the private data area. I don't know that it is this code that is failing but they report the assigned numbers disappearing after the phone comes out of screen sleep. Since the file is reread in OnCreate each time, I'm assuming the file doesn't exist on return. As soon as I can get my hands on a Droid I will debug it but in the meantime can you see a reason why this save operation would fail on Droid (no other users have reported this)? "" : number)); } out.close(); AppGlobal.getContext returns the application context and the MAPPINGS_FILE_NAME resolves to "gesture_mappings.txt". Like I say, I don't know that this is the problem. It could be something else to do with state management inside the app. If anyone has a Droid, maybe they could download the app from Market and test it for me? Note this is a genuine request for help - not an attempt to increase my downloads.

  This is what I see when I visit my web site. How do I instead get the Yellow Screen of Death so I know what the error is? I have GoDaddy shared hosting and I think the problem is that I don't have the correct MVC binaries in the /bin folder. My web.config shows this: <add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> <add assembly="System.Web.Abstractions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> <add assembly="System.Web.Routing, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> But I'm not positive I copied the right .DLL files into /bin. I've got like 8 of each file--which version is which?!

  Hi guys! I am using Ant ftp task to deploy my project files to a remote app server. Ant is not able to detect the date of the remote file and it re-uploads all files every time. When I start Ant in debug mode it says: [ftp] checking date for mailer.war [ftp] Could not date test remote file: mailer.war assuming out of date. Jakarta oro site - http://jakarta.apache.org/oro/ says the oro project is retired as of 2010, but their latest distribution is from 2003! Please, can anyone help me with this? Any solution or any alternatives to the Ant ftp task? Thanks!
