  • What is a realistic average time difference between servers in the same LAN?

    Until recently, we had at work a small cluster of about 20 small Windows servers (which have now all been virtualized). They were all configured to synchronize with the local time server. It was on an 1Gb sub-network in our own DC. I never got them to be less than about 100ms away from each other, which I consider to be an incredibly big difference. Is that a normal value? What is a realistic expectation of time difference between machines running on a 1Gb network, and all connected to the same time server, and updating frequently, say every 5 minutes? I would like to know this as setting timeouts and other parameters in a distributed application requires to take that difference into consideration.

Currently in /etc/crontab there is this task (daily) find /mnt/vol1/1 -type f -mtime +16 -exec rm -R {} \; This allow me to delete files older than 16 days.. infact every night a new file is added in /mnt/vol1/1 folder.. but now I wanna make a script that check the folder and keeps only the youngest 2 file.. whitout taking in consideration the days..     I have the following code auto adder = [](string& s1, const string& s2)->string&& { if (!s1.empty()) s1 += " "; s1 += s2; return move(s1); }; string test; test.reserve(wordArray.size() * 10); string words = accumulate(wordArray.begin(), wordArray.end(), move(test), adder); What I would like here is to avoid string copying. Unfortunately this is not accomplished by the vs2012 implementation of accumulate. Internally accumulate calls another function _Accumulate and the rvalue functionality gets lost in the process. It I instead call the _Accumulate function like so string words = Accumulate(wordArray.begin(), wordArray.end(), move(test), adder); I get the intended performance gain. Must the std library be rewritten to take rvalue arguments into consideration? Is there some other way I may use accumulate to accomplish what I want without cheating to much?
