  • Libvirt/KVM in NAT: can't access from host (and can't forward)

    I'm trying to set up a port forward to a KVM guest, managed through Libvirt on Debian 6. The VM is running in NAT, through the "default" network. This all runs fine, the VM has full internet connection. However, the host cannot reach the vm internally. Neither ping, nc nor nmap on the NAT network give any signs of the VM.   • Render as html from a remote link on Rails

    On my registration form i want to show a modal (of twitter-bootstrap) when the user has a successfull signup to tell him to check his email so i put "remote: true" on my form and render a .js.erb wich shows the modal, on my controller. BUT, in case of inputs errors i need to render the page as html to refresh de form showing those errors. Can I call the controller from the remote form as JS but render as html? (or any other idea to do what i want) Thanks!

    My application stores lots of its users friends' phone numbers. I'd like to allow users to associate names with these phone numbers, but I don't want to make users manually type in names (obviously). I'm curious what the best overall approach is here, as well as the best way to implement it Overall approach-wise, I imagine using Gmail / Yahoo / Windows Live contacts is best (the Facebook API doesn't let you access phone numbers), though the gems I've found for interacting with these contacts APIs (this and this) only give you access to the names and email addresses of each contact.

  • Issue with SSH on Ubuntu - Local connection ok, remote connection - Is it me or my ISP?

    I have an issue with a server running Ubuntu 12.04, I am trying to set up a remote connection so I can access the server at my work from out of town. I have installed the SSH server and all that stuff, and I have reassigned the default port from 22 to 3399. A local connection from any OS can connect on the 192.168... address, but in no way can I get a connection on the actual IP address. I believe my configuration is correct, and I will attach it. If I have done something wrong in the config, please tell me and I will make a change to it. I honestly think that the Router that my ISP provided is horrible, and although the port for ssh is forwarded, it might be stopping any traffic coming inbound. Is there anything I can try to verify this? /var/log/auth does not show any error when I connect VIA our static IP.   • Hacking "Contact Form 7" code to Add A "Referred By" field

    I've got about 6 subdomains that have a "contact us" link and I'm sending all these links to a single form that uses "Contact Form 7". I add ?from=site-name to each of the links so that I can set a $referredFrom variable in the contact form. The only two things I'm missing are (1) the ability to insert this referredFrom variable into the email that I get whenever someone submits the form and (2) The ability to redirect the user back to the site they came from (stored in $referredFrom) Any ideas?     I have a linux machine setup as a bridge between a client and a server; brctl addbr0 brctl addif br0 eth1 brctl addif br0 eth2 ifconfig eth1 0.0.0.0 ifconfig eth2 0.0.0.0 ip link set br0 up I also have an application listening on port 8080 of this machine. Is it possible to have traffic destined for port 80 to be passed to my application? I have done some research and it looks like it could be done using ebtables and iptables. Here is the rest of my setup: //set the ebtables to pass this traffic up to ip for processing; DROP on the broute table should do this ebtables -t broute -A BROUTING -p ipv4 --ip-proto tcp --ip-dport 80 -j redirect --redirect-target DROP //set iptables to forward this traffic to my app listening on port 8080 iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j TPROXY --on-port 8080 --tproxy-mark 1/1 iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -p tcp -j MARK --set-mark 1/1 //once the flows are marked, have them delivered locally via loopback interface ip rule add fwmark 1/1 table 1 ip route add local 0.0.0.0/0 dev lo table 1 //enable ip packet forwarding echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward However nothing is coming into my application. Am I missing anything? My understanding is that the target DROP on the broute BROUTING chain will push it up to be processed by iptables. Secondly, are there any other alternatives I should investigate? Edit: IPtables gets it at nat PREROUTING, but it looks like it drops after that; the INPUT chain (in either mangle or filter) doesn't see the packet.

  • Setting a subdomain to access home machine with windows remote desktop

    I'm trying to remotely connect to home machine through Windows Remote Desktop (amongst other things, but this is currently my primary focus). I can do this fine using my home WAN's static IP (thank god for cable!) with port-forwarding, but I would like to access it from a subdomain of my web-site (e.g. home.mydomain.co.uk). In the cPanel for my hosting account, I've gone into DNS zones and altered the A-record to point to my WAN's IP, which I thought should do the job, but I still cannot connect. When I ping the subdomain, I get my web-host's IP, which I guess is to be expected as I believe the DNS of the host domain is used first, then my server handles the redirection of traffic to the IP in the A-record. Is this the correct idea? Do A-record changes suffer from the same propagation delays as DNS record changes, as I suppose that could explain it?   • DNS caching server config problem

    I have a Bind DNS caching-only server setup that is working. I am bringing up a new AD domain controller that will also be a DNS server for that AD but I don't want it responding to any DNS queries except those that are AD related. So, my goal is to leave this caching server as the primary DNS server for stations on the network and have it forward requests for the AD domain to the domain controller. My understanding is that I just need a forward zone for that domain pointing to the domain controller. However it does not seem to be working. So that leaves me to think that my caching server is not forwarding properly. For example, this AD is going to have a naming convention of hostname.mydomain.local. If I do an nslookup and specify the domain controller's IP address as the server, I can query addresses that exist in DNS on that server, such as dc1.mydomain.local. However, queries to my caching server times out (I get a response from the caching server if I query mydomain.local but none of the objects in that domain). Any suggestions?
