• Carbide / Symbian C++ - Change Application Icon

  I am using Carbide (just upgraded to 2.0) to develop an S60 3rd Edition application. I would like to know the easiest way to change the icon (both the application icon on the device menu and the icon at the top left of the main view) because I have the need to skin my application in many different ways as easily as possible. All my efforts with messing around with .mif files have so far failed. I have a 44x44 .svg icon I made with Illustrator, could someone please help me in the right direction? Thanks!

• Blackberry development on scripting language ?

  From what I've seen, the preferred way to develop Blackberry applications is Java. Is this the only way? I'm dreaming of a rapid application environment where you can create GUIs (using the Blackberry UI components). Something like a port of Tcl/Tk on Blackberry... or Python/Tkinter... or something new, but similar. Does something like that exist ? (I doubt it) Can something like that exist ? (i.e., given the money, is it feasible/reasonable/...)

• Dynamically pixelate an html image element

  I'm to take an image on a webpage, and then use javascript (or whatever would be best suited) to dynamically 'pixelate' it (e.g. into 20px squares). Then, as the user scrolls down the page, I need the image to gradually increase in resolution, till it is no longer pixelated. Any ideas how I could go about doing this? I realise I could use php to resize an image and several times and just switch out the image, but that would require loading several extra images. Also, I know I could probably do the effect with flash & pixelbender, but I want to achieve it within the limitations of HTML5, CSS & Javascript if possible. Appreciate any thoughts!

• ESRI frameworks: java vs javascript

  I'm about to develop a web mapping application with ESRI Products like ArcGIS Server and Image Server. I can't find a good comparison between the Java Web ADF and the Javascript Framework. They're of course different because one is a full environment and the other is only client side but it's much more concise and the step to start is minimal. Another problem is that the Java Web ADF is not compatible with our current application server (JBoss 4.2.2) and require an old 4.0.2 version. Someone out there has experience that can help me?   I've looked at a few sites now, and I'm still struggling to find a complete listing of all the possible layers/tiers you can have in an application. From back in college (1999) I remember the following: Presentation Layer (Views) Application Layer (Controllers) Business Logic Layer (API/Rules) Persistence Layer (Database/Object Persistence/Model) I'm not advocating that they all be used...especially when you consider that too many layers/tiers could lead to an increase in complexity...I just wondered what the complete list might look like... Based on a couple of blogs I've found several different answers...and Javascript and client side technologies seem to have leaked in adding more client-side layers according to one blog the client side tier might even consist of Behavior Layer (Javascript, Flash) Presentation Layer (CSS/Images) Note: I though the entire client side layer was the presentation layer Structure Layer (XHTML, HTML) I'm just trying to get an abstract idea of what all the possible layers might be, (even though some people call them different things)

I want to have all the niceties with intellisense, sulution explorer and whatnot but I don't want all of the ASP.net structure in the sulution.   I am using the Google/YouTube APIs to develop web application which needs access to a users YouTube account. Normal unsecure requests work fine and I can upgrade one time tokens to session tokens without any hassle. The problem comes when I try and upgrade a secure token to a session token, I get: ERROR - Token upgrade for CIzF3546351vmq_P____834654G failed : Token upgrade failed. Reason: Invalid AuthSub header. • Joomla 1.5 Media Manager sets incorrect file permissions when uploading

  Howdy all, I have a Joomla 1.5 installation running on Windows Server 2008, installed via the Web Platform Installer. When uploading images with the media manager (native uploader, not the flash bulk uploader), the files arrive on the server correctly, but are given incorrect permissions. Specifically, the IIS_IUSRS group is not given access to the file. I might be incorrect about what group/user is SUPPOSED to get access to the files, but so far, I've found that unless I give IIS_IUSRS access to the uploaded files, they won't appear on the site or in the media manager (appear as broken images). Once I give IIS_IUSRS permission to the files, they work fine. So far, all the research I've done has led me to linux specific fixes that involve either changing the umask on the server, or directly modifying the Joomla codebase to add an appropriate chmod command to the upload process, but I really don't want to modify Joomla directly. I have to believe there's a setting here somewhere that will do the job, either on the Joomla or Windows side of the equation. Any thoughts? Scott

  I want to develop a project which can be built on a bunch of different platforms. The project code will be in C++, what's the the best way to manage libraries? I plan on using bjam as the build system because I'm going to be depending on Boost and their unit testing framework as well. The two dependent libraries are Boost itself and FLTK. The possibilities that come to mind for library management are: include build artifacts (binaries) and headers for all supported platforms in-tree include complete source for all dependent libraries in-tree, and somehow script them as dependencies A combination of 1 and 2, like node.js does with v8 inform the user that they need to build the libraries themselves and then have them on the PATH or in some special directory, like libcurl does with its dependencies What is the best approach here? The project will probably not grow beyond a few thousand lines over the next six months, but I want to make the right choice here so that I don't have to come back and switch everything around later.

  I'd like to delay-load a Java Applet in the same way that SwfObject loads Flash SWFs-- you supply it a div id and it replaces the div's contents. This would allow the whole page to load before the Applet starts. However, I'd also like to use a best-practices Javascript library like deployJava.js or applet-fu. The problem with these libraries is that they only use document.writeln-- if you use them after the DOM loads they will clobber the page. Are there any Applet-loading JavaScript libraries that allow for delay-loading?

• how to get an SDP record for bluetooth service??

  Hi I'm new to both winsock and bluetooth programming. I need to develop a bluetooth service to run on a pc. Looking at the MSDN library they say to use WSASetService(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362921%28VS.85%29.aspx) function to publish a service. The problem is that the WSAQUERYSET(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362920%28VS.85%29.aspx) structure, that has to be passed to WSASetService, needs a binary SDP record and i don't know how to get it. In the Windows embedded section of the MSDN library they describe a procedure to obtain an SDP record using Bthnscreate. I installed Windows CE 6 to use this tool but i can't find it in the install directory nor in the entire system. How can i get an SDP record? Thanks!

• FLVPlayback, go fullscreen smooth?

  Hello, Im looking into using and customizing FLVPlayback in a project. How to go about this is clear, but I noticed 1 anoying thing. When going fullscreen, first Flash player goes fullscreen and then briefly shows the FLVPlayback component in its original size, before jumping to show the video itself fullscreen. I noticed on Youtube this doesnt happen. How can I escape this 'flicker' and have the video go fullscreen as the videos do on youtube? Thanks a lot for any tips! Marcel

This isn't a single form, but a collection of forms with interdependencies (i.e., field X on form Y is needed if field A was equal to C on form B), and variable length lists (please provide the details for all Xs in your possession). I had a look at the marketing on Microsoft InfoPath and Adobe LiveCycle, but I get the impression that they're principally electronic forms solutions rather than data collection tools. (e.g., If a user has entered their address once, they should never have to see it on a form again). Any suggestions of good tools, applications or domain-specific languages?

• Flex Inheriting Logged in User

  I am trying to secure my Flex application within my Java web application. Currently my Java web application, handles logging and managing user accounts and the like. I was wondering if there is a way to essentially share that user credentials with the Flash movie in a secure mechanism? For instance, if you log in, we want you to be able to save items in the Flex application for that user, only if that user is logged in of course. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Highstock set different colors for different markers

  I am tryting to develop a chart in Highstock where each marker got an individual color. When i push my Data in an Array like this : series.data.push([ parseInt(Math.round(myDate.getTime())), parseInt(Math.round(myDate.getHours())) ]); The Data is shown correctly, but when i try to set the color within each data-object like this, it doesn't work to show points. series.data.push([ { x: parseInt(Math.round(myDate.getTime())), y: parseInt(Math.round(myDate.getHours())), marker:{fillColor: 'red'}} ]); What am i missing? Update: When i inspect it with firebug i can see that the series is set correctly within the chart object. so why does it now show up? :/

Are they using an open source audio player and can I get a hold of it? Or is it closed source?   Hello, I want to develop a POS application in .NET (C#) that would be used to rent items. I have a good idea of what will be done and the famous question that I have is about the DBMS that I should use. I would like to use MySQL database. The question is: If some places use only one computer (no network, no internet connection), can I use a MySQL database in local? Do I need to install MySQL server on all thoses computers to be able to use such a database? I know SQLite but I'm not sure if the limitations can cause problems in the future... I also looked at SQLServer Express versions. (I must consider that other point of sales are using multiple computers and more transactions so there I can't put sqlexpress or sqlite) So can anybody suggest me what I should do in that situation? • Example code of libssh2 being used for port forwarding

  I'm looking for an example of how to use libssh2 to setup ssh port forwarding. I've looked at the API, but there is very little in the way of documentation in the area of port forwarding. For instance, using PuTTY plink, There is the remote port to listen on, but also the local port that traffic should be sent to. Is it the developers responsibility to do this part? Can an example be developed of this? Also, for the opposite, where a remote port is brought to a local port, do I use libssh2_channel_direct_tcpip_ex? What about an example of this? I really need to do this exact thing on a project right now. How hard would it be to develop a couple of samples of this? I'm willing to put up a bounty if need be to get a couple of working examples of this.

• Integrating virtual keyboard on a HP TouchSmart with an Adobe AIR app

  Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to integrate the ToushSmart's virtual keyboard with an Adobe AIR application? In most programs (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), when a user touches a text field a little keyboard icon automatically pops up which, when pressed, will bring up the virtual keyboard. However, this doesn't happen when clicking on text input fields in Adobe AIR applications. Has anyone had any experience working with AIR/Flash and touchscreens? Is there any API that can tell Windows (or the HP virtual keyboard specifically) that the user has clicked in a text field and that the virtual keyboard should be shown? The text fields are the standard kind (fl.controls.TextInput). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• Mercurial in Windows doesn't see .hgignore - why?

  Windows fails to pick up my .hgignore file. I'm running Mercurial from the command line, and "hg status" shows lots of files in the ignored directories. The .hgignore file looks like this (there's no whitespace at the start of the file, or at the start of each line). I've put it in the root directory of the repository. \.pyc$ \.pyo$ \.DS_Store \.Python \.installed.cfg ^bin$ ^build$ ^develop-eggs$ ^eggs$ ^include$ ^lib$ ^parts$ ^pip-log.txt$ ^web/localsettings.py$ I've tried saving the file in ANSI and UTF-8, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I know the file is working OK on Linux, is there anything different about the paths in Windows?

• FOX toolkit, file concatentation

  I'm using the FOX Toolkit and C++ to develop a GUI. I'm Having an issue with the FXFile::concat(...) command. The method looks like: FXFile::concat(const FXString & srcfile1, const FXString & srcfile2, const FXString & dstfile, FXbool overwrite = false And when I call it with the srcfile1 and dstfile being the same thing (because I need to simply add to srcfile1), the method does not work. dstfile is empty. Anyone have experience with FOX and this concatentation problem? I'm open to other suggestions as well, including boost.
