  • Is this a reliable method of parsing glGetShaderInfoLog()?

    I want to get a list of errors and their line numbers so I can display the error information differently from how it's formatted in the error string and also to show the line in the output. It looks easy enough to just parse the result of glGetShaderInfoLog(), look for ERROR:, then read the next number up to :, and then the next, and finally the error description up to the next newline. However, the OpenGL docs say: Application developers should not expect different OpenGL implementations to produce identical information logs. This makes me worry that my code may behave incorrectly on different systems. I don't need them to be identical, I just need them to follow the same format. So is there a better way to get a list of errors with the line number separate, is it safe to assume that they'll always follow the "ERROR: 0:123:" format, or is there simply no reliable way to do this?

  • Will a standard CMS on a shared web hosting account work for this?

    I have two questions concerning CMS's that I need answered if possible: I need to create a site with a Database. This site will in due time have lots of traffic and many users if things go as planned. Is it better to have the CMS on a shared web hosting account or is it better to have a dedicated server for this? The site I want to create needs to be able to create groups where each group has its own admin. The admin of the group decides the content that each member can view/access. The information of one group can be shared to other groups as well. This means that only the information content is shared but not the group's member data. Should I use a single or multiple databases for this problem? Is this something that can be done using standard CMS systems out there. or should I try to build one myself?

  • JQuery getJSON - ajax parseerror

    I've tried to parse the following json response with both the JQuery getJSON and ajax: [{"iId":"1","heading":"Management Services","body":"<h1>Program Overview</h1><h1>January 29, 2009</h1>"}] I've also tried it escaping the "/" characters like this: [{"iId":"1","heading":"Management Services","body":"<h1>Program Overview <\/h1><h1>January 29, 2009<\/h1>"}] When I use the getJSON it dose not execute the callback. However, I have hope that I may have missed something that would allow me to get this data via JSON. Does anyone have any ideas?

    I have a domain installed on virtual Windows Server 2008 x64. SQL Server 2008 Express x64 is running in Windows Server 2008 x64 and client on Windows 7 RTM x86. Both are into the domain. I'm starting both Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008 under domain admin user. This account is a member of group sysadmin on SQL Server. Server has firewall exceptions for both TCP and UDP on ports 135-139 and 1433-1434. Visual Studio 2008 Remote debugger services is started on server and Domain Admins group is allowed to debug, When I'm starting debugging of a query in SMS I'm getting this error: Failed to start debugger Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.   • Weblogic is slow to start (11mins) under VM (VirtualBox and VMware)

    (SOLVED! BY FAKING SYSTEM RANDOM GENERATOR, SEE BELOW) I'm setting up a VM image for my dev/build team. Inside that VM a Weblogic domain should be running. I use Ububtu server distro, WLS 9.2MP3 + ALSB. Everything works OK, quite fast, but at the start time the WLS stops twice for a measurable amounts of time. Two stops in total amount to about 10 minutes delay. For tasks where deployment requires server restart it's very annoying. :-( Sleeping time is not constant, sometimes the server starts very fast, sometimes so-so, sometimes 10 minutes or more. Interesting that if I press Enter while looking at the stopped server, it wakes up much faster, sometimes after a few seconds. WLST (Weblogic Jython shell) is also hanging for quite a time when executed in VM. It doesn't react to Enter though. Here must be some developers who run WLS with a VM. I wonder if others have the same problem? Was someone able to solve it? For the test purposes I have changed jre/lib/security/java.security file, property to securerandom.source=file:/tmp/big.random.file. Weblogic now starts in 15 seconds.

    Hello, I'm build a web page in ASP.net is supposed to work just like Query Analyzer. It has basically a textarea to input the sql command, and an Execute button. I'm using SMO to execute the command in the database, as follows: //Create object SMO Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server server = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server(new Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ServerConnection(oConn)); //To execute the command server.ConnectionContext.ExecuteNonQuery(tbx_cmd.Text); //OR myDataset = server.ConnectionContext.ExecuteWithResults(tbx_cmd.Text); The problem is that the textarea command can contain anything, from a stored procedure (with GO's statements) and any select command that return resultsets, just like Query Analyzer. But, if I have GO statements, I only can perform the query using ExecuteNonQuery method. If I use the ExecuteWithResults method, it raises errors because of the GO statements. And if I want the resultsets to be available, of course I can only use the ExecuteWithResults method. Does anybody knows how can I do to execute the same command texts at the same time? Thank you!

  • Useful training courses that aren't specific to a single technology

    I have possibly the best problem in the world. I have about £1600 left in a training budget and I need to find something to spend it on. I can spend it on anything that could be considered training. Books, courses, conferences, etc. I would like to find a course that would benifit a software developer but is not about learning a specific programming technology. I don't really want to spend it on a technical training course. These topics are usually best learned with a good book and some trial and error. I have also already been on a general business/management training course and a PRINCE2 project management course. I am currently working on a project on my own so am responsible for communicating with the client, requirements gathering, project management, etc., as well as the coding. What training have you found useful outside the usual technical stuff? Has anyone done any business analysis courses? What were they like? Are there any courses on some of the practicalities of working with software, e.g. automated test and deployment strategies, handling technical support? I would prefer a course in the UK but I can travel if necessary.

    I see people in this forums with a lot of points, so I assume they know about a lot of different programming stuff. When I was young I knew about basic (commodore) and the turbo pascal (pc). Then in college I learnt about C, memory management, x86 set, loop invariants, graphs, db query optimization, oop, functional, lambda calculus, prolog, concurrency, polymorphism, newton method, simplex, backtracking, dynamic programming, heuristics, np completeness, LR, LALR, neural networks, static & dynamic typing, turing, godel, and more in between. Then in industry I started with Java several years ago and learnt about it, and its variety of frameworks, and also design patterns, architecture patterns, web development, server development, mobile development, tdd, bdd, uml, use cases, bug trackers, process management, people management if you are a tech lead, profiling, security concerns, etc. I started to forget what I learnt in college... And then there is the stuff I don't know yet, like python, .net, perl, JVM stuff like groovy or scala.. Of course Google is a must for rapid documentation access to know if a problem has been solved already and how, and to keep informed about new stuff by blogs and places like this one. It's just too much or I just have a bad memory.. how do you guys manage it?

    I'm following these instructions in order to set up Django on Windows. I have installed Python 2.6, PostgreSQL 8.4, Psycopg 2.0.14 for Python 2.6 and the latest version of Django from SVN.     Am having a bit of a problem making my django application run in SUSE linux 9. I have Python2.5 installed well, Django 1.0 installed well. Am able to execute django command django-admin startproject fine But when i run the runserver command i get the error below. i have a folder with sqlite3, i can go in there and actually run the sqlite3* application, now am wondering where does Django look for the sqlite libraries? and how can i fix this?   • PHP: How do I loop through every XML file in a directory?

    Hi! I'm building a simple application. It's a user interface to an online order system. Basically, the system is going to work like this: Other companies upload their purchase orders to our FTP server. These orders are simple XML files (containing things like customer data, address information, ordered products and the quantities…) I've built a simple user interface in HTML5, jQuery and CSS — all powered by PHP. PHP reads the content of an order (using the built-in features of SimpleXML) and displays it on the web page. So, it's a web app, supposed to always be running in a browser at the office. The PHP app will display the content of all orders. Every fifteen minutes or so, the app will check for new orders. How do I loop through all XML files in a directory? Right now, my app is able to read the content of a single XML file, and display it in a nice way on the page. My current code looks like this: // pick a random order that I know exists in the Order directory: $xml_file = file_get_contents("Order/6366246.xml",FILE_TEXT); $xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xml_file); // start echo basic order information, like order number: echo $xml->OrderHead->ShopPO; // more information about the order and the customer goes here… echo "<ul>"; // loop through each order line, and echo all quantities and products: foreach ($xml->OrderLines->OrderLine as $orderline) { echo "<tr>\n". But how do I loop through the entire Order directory, and read aand display the content of each order (like above)? I'm stuck. I don't really know how you get all (xml) files in a directory and then do something with the files (like reading them and echo out the data, like I want to). -- I'd really appreciate some help.   • Examples using Active Directory/LDAP groups for permissions \ roles in Rails App.

    Hello. I was wondering how other people implemented this scenario. I have an internal rails app ( inventory management, label printing, shipping,etc). I'm rewriting security on the system, cause the old way got to cumbersome to maintain ( users table, passwords, roles) - I used restful_authentication and roles. It was implemented about 3 years ago. I already implemented AuthLogic with ruby-ldap-net to authenticate users ( actually that was surprisingly easy, compared to how I struggled with other frameworks/languages before). Next step is roles. I already have groups defined in Active Directory - so I don't want to run a separate roles system in my rails app, I just want to reuse Active Directory groups - since that part of the system is already maintained for other purposes ( shared drives, backups, pc access, etc) So I was wondering if others had experience implementing permissions/roles in a rails app based on groups in Active Directory or LDAP. Also the roles requirements are pretty complex. Here is an example: For instance I have users that belong to the supervisors group in AD and to inventory dept, so I was that user to be able to run "advanced" tasks in invetory - adjust qty, run reports, however other "supervisors" from other departmanets, shouldn't be able to do this, also Top Management - should be able to use those reports (regardless weather they belong to the invetory or not), but not Middle Management, unless they are in inventory group. Admins of the system (Domain Admins) should have unrestricted access to the system , except for HR & Finances part unless they are in HR ( like you don't want all system admins (except for one authorized one) to see personal info of other employees). I looked at acl9, cancan, aegis. I was wondering if there are any advantaged/cons to using one versus the other for this particular use of system access based on AD. Suggest other systems if you had good experience. Thank you!!!
