  I'm attempting to build a binary package that can be run on multiple Linux distributions. It's currently built on Ubuntu 10.04, but it fails on Ubuntu 8.04 with the following error: ./test: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by ./test) ./test: /usr/lib/libstdc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./test) What's the preferred way to solve this problem? Is there a way to install an old glibc on a new box and build against it, or do I have to build on an old distribution? And if I build against an old glibc, will it work on a new glibc? Or, alternatively, are there just some handy compiler flags or packages I could install to solve the problem?

  I'm learning Scala and I want to know the best way of expressing this imperative pattern using Scala's functional programming capabilities. def f(l: List[Int]): Boolean = { for (e <- l) { if (test(e)) return true } } return false } The best I can come up with is along the lines of: l map { e => test(e) } contains true But this is less efficient since it calls test() on each element, whereas the imperative version stops on the first element that satisfies test(). Is there a more idiomatic functional programming technique I can use to the same effect? The imperative version seems awkward in Scala.

• How should I migrate DDL changes from one environment to the next?

  I make DDL changes using SQL Developer's GUI. Problem is, I need to apply those same changes to the test environment. I'm wondering how others handle this issue. Currently I'm having to manually write ALTER statements to bring the test environment into alignment with the development environment, but this is prone to error (doing the same thing twice). In cases where there's no important data in the test environment I usually just blow everything away, export the DDL scripts from dev and run them from scratch in test. I know there are triggers that can store each DDL change, but this is a heavily shared environment and I would like to avoid that if possible. Maybe I should just write the DDL stuff manually rather than using the GUI?

  I know this has been asked a million times but I think I need to make it a million and one. I am getting "A generic error has occurred in GDI+" when trying to save a new bitmap.   A friend of mine came to me with this strange behavior which i can't explain, any insight view would be appreciated. • How well supported is the ATI graphics on a Sony VAIO SA?

  This is the first time i will be buying a laptop/desktop to use as a Ubuntu platform with ATI. Now i did notice a while back that ATI drivers were not in cahoots with Linux as of yet. I am just wondering if any one is still experiencing ATI issues, or this is no longer the case. I am looking to spend money on a laptop Upgrade, but I don't want to spend a screw load of money just to find out I can only use windows and my Graphics driver does not work.   Hi, I'm needing to know the best way to compare two objects and to find out if there equal. I'm overriding both GethashCode and Equals. So a basic class looks like: public class Test { public int Value { get; set; } public string String1 { get; set; } public string String2 { get; set; } public override int GetHashCode() { return Value ^ String1.GetHashCode() ^ String2.GetHashCode(); } public override bool Equals( object obj ) { return GetHashCode() == obj.GetHashCode(); } } So for testing purposes I created two objects: Test t = new Test() { Value = 1, String1 ="One", String2 = "One" }; Test t2 = new Test() { Value = 1, String1 = "Two", String2 = "Two" }; bool areEqual = t.Equals( t2 ); In testing this areEqual returns true event though both objects are different. I realise this is because String1 and String2 are the same value in each object and thus cancels each other out when hashing. Is there a better way off hashing object that the method I have that will resolve my issue?

Can you do a join on strings that come from another select ?? The reason for this is that I'm writing a universal stored procedure that outputs all fields + their values from a table, without knowing what fields there are in the table. (The tablename is given in a parameter)

Before installing 12.04 i had tried the Ubuntu 10.10 Version Live and it was perfect in showing my Local Disks. But it couldn't recognize my GTX 470 Graphics driver so i thought of trying the recent version i.e 12.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Automatically change resolution when not in dock

  I have Ubuntu 11.04 (yep, I know it's old news) on my Lenovo W520. At home, I have a dock with dual monitors. I have a pretty decent setup - things work almost perfectly (hence the reason I'm reluctant to upgrade... that and I'm not 100% sold on Unity). Anyway, the only annoyance I have is that when I'm on travel, I use the laptop screen. When I un-dock the laptop, I need to manually go into nvidia x-server settings and change the resolution from 'Auto' to 1920x1200, or it will think I have two screens, and my mouse pointer will be able to go way off the left side of the screen. This isn't a big deal, but I need to do it every time I restart the x-server (so if I reboot, or have to kill it, etc...) What would be really nice is if there was a way for it to automatically detect whether or not there is external monitors (which it seems to do already), and switch into the mode I select, depending on which monitors are connected. Is there any way to accomplish this? • Fluent NHibernate CheckProperty and Dates

  I setup a NUnit test as such: new PersistenceSpecification<MyTable>(_session) .CheckProperty(c => c.ActionDate, DateTime.Now); When I run the test via NUnit I get the following error: SomeNamespace.MapTest: System.ApplicationException : Expected '2/23/2010 11:08:38 AM' but got '2/23/2010 11:08:38 AM' for Property 'ActionDate' The ActionDate field is a datetime field in a SQL 2008 database. I use Auto Mapping and declare the ActionDate as a DateTime property in C#. If I change the test to use DateTime.Today the tests pass. My question is why is the test failing with DateTime.Now? Is NHibernate losing some precision when saving the date to the database and if so how do prevent the lose? Thank you.

I've affirmed that this.doAnotherAction() thinks "this" is the XMLHttpResponse object as expected from an instanceof test. Can anyone help with some insight on direction with binding?   Lets say I have a directory at \testfolder, and the latest is currently at /main/10. I know that the operation resulting in testfolder@@/main/6 is to remove a file named test.txt. What's a sequence of cleartool operations that can be done in a script that will take "testfolder@@/main/6" and "test.txt" as input, and will cat out the contents of test.txt as of that time? One way I can think of is to get the time of /main/6 operation, create a view with config spec -time set to that time, and then cat the test.txt at the directory. But I'm wondering if I can do this in a easier way that doesn't involve manipulating config specs, perhaps through "cleartool find" and extended path names
