• Invalid Html Response and JS Errors when you open your Application in Visual Studio 2013

   I was working on an application which uses Telerik controls. The application was working fine for a while. Suddenly, the application stopped working. I mean lot of my application pages becoming very very ugly. I found JavaScript errors on every Browser's console. When I check the page view-source, the generated HTML was messy and invalid. This was only happening with my local machine. If someone else on my network accesses my application pages, he will get the correct HTML and no JavaScript errors. My mind was blowing because the same page was generating invalid HTML(and JavaScript errors) when I access the page using a local browser but generate correct HTML(and no JavaScript errors) when someone else access my application page remotely. Then I realized that I the only change I made last was opening my application in Visual Studio 2013 RTM which I installed few days ago. I closed the Visual Studio 2013, everything work like a charm. Then I became100% sure that this is only happening due to new Visual Studio 2013 feature called Browser Link. I just open the application again and add this in web.config. • Daily Weekly and Monthly DB backup with logrotate?

  I am currently keeping daily backup of my database by doing a daily mysqldump and by using logrotate to keep the 7 last days of mysqldump. I would like to improve this backup process to keep 7 daily backup, 3 weekly backups and 12 monthly backup. I found this article which explain how to di this with logrotate : http://www.hotcoding.com/os/sysadmin/35751.html However I am using the dateext logrotate option to name my backup files so I cannot use this solution. How can I do daily, weekly and monthly backup with logrotate and with the dateext option?

• Tell me why I should bother using Linux if it's all about problems getting the OS to install or work properly? [closed]

  Why should I spend day's trying to get Ubuntu to either install and/or work properly? I'm using an Acer Timeline X laptop and if I install 10.04 the wireless doesn't work, and if I try installing 11.04 it either won't install, or if it installs it's full of bugs causing my computer to freeze all the time. So please, I'm all open ears. Someone give me one or two good reasons to continue wasting time (in hope it eventually works) before I decide to focus my time on other things like productivity (using Windows like I've been doing successfully the last 10 years). This is the second time I give Ubuntu a try, the first time was in 2010 using Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Desktop, and it ended with me shifting back to Windows since I had spent more time getting everything to work than actually working while trying Ubuntu. I really don't understand why it needs to be like this. Why go on trying when all I see is forums full of discussions about problems which people are having difficulties fixing. Or maybe there is just one special type of computer which works well with Linux? Would very much like to know which computer that is. SO please, if it's not to much trouble I really want to here from someone who has something good to say about going through all this trouble just to get a working environment up and running since I already have a working environment up and running called Windows. • RAM module randomly stopped working

  My laptop is a Dell Inspiron e1505. It came with 2x512 MB of RAM installed, and about a year and a half ago I decided to upgrade it to 2x1 GB. I bought two 1GB memory modules from newegg and installed them, and all worked fine. Just last night my laptop was working fine; this morning I booted up and there was a BIOS warning saying "amount of system memory has changed". I tried reseating the modules, but that didn't fix it. Then I removed each one individually, and determined that one of the sticks appears to no longer be working. This happened very abruptly - I hadn't noticed any problems which might have been indicative of impending failure. Does anybody have any clue what may have caused this, and if there's any hope of making it work again? The memory only had a 30 day warranty, so I can't RMA it.

• Why can't I copy a 7 GB file to an external USB HD with 120 GB free?

  Yes, why can't I? I was stashing away some old photography backup zips last night. I could copy 4 of my 1 GB backup zips to my external USB connected hard-drive when I got the error message "Cannot copy file. Not enough free space." (sort of) for a zip of roughly 7 GB. But there are 120 GB free. Why is this? EDIT: Clarification - the files that I could copy was smaller than 4 GB. The failing one was 7 GB. The cause seems to be the FAT32 4 GB limit.

• Server 2008 Task Scheduler and a CMD file

  Task Scheduler - I have a .cmd file I'm trying to execute on a regular basis through Task Scheduler. I've set the task so that it points to the cmd file. I want the task to execute even when no one is logged in. I've set the credentials associated with the task to the local service account. When I execute the task, nothing happens. The Last Run Result shows 0x1, this means it didn't execute properly. When I run the file from a command prompt it executes just fine. Any help out there would be appreciated. I would post the code but it has sensitive information in it and I'm not allowed to let the code outside. Thanks

• SharePoint 2010 User Profile Sync - Remove Disabled Users

  I have SharePoint 2010 set up to sync active directory users and it is working great. I am getting disabled users in the sync though. I have tried what all the blogs say, filter on userAccountControl bit on equals 2 but to no avail, the disabled users are still syncing. I am at a loss on where to look next. My last resort would be to create a ou/folder in AD and move disabled users there and remove that from the sync connector, but I don't really want to go there. Any ideas?

• Unable to mount NTFS Partition after resizing

  I was having only 15 GB space allocated to LINUX. I wanted to have more space available to linux. So I just re sized one of my ntfs partition using GParted. But after resizing I am not able to open the partition neither in Ubuntu nor in windows. OS: Dual Boot Win7/Ubuntu 10.10 The error message i get is the following: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 12: Failed to read last sector (395458824): Invalid argument HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet, or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...), or a wrong device is tried to be mounted, or the partition table is corrupt (partition is smaller than NTFS), or the NTFS boot sector is corrupt (NTFS size is not valid). Failed to mount '/dev/sda5': Invalid argument The device '/dev/sda5' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS. Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?

• Mac OS X 10.5/6, authenticate against by NIS or LDAP when both servers have your username

  We have an organization-wide LDAP server and a department-only NIS server. Many users have accounts with the same name on both servers. Is there any way to get Leopard/Snow Leopard machines to query one server, and then the other, and let the user log in if his username/password combination matches at least one record? I can get either NIS authentication or LDAP authentication. I can even enable both, with LDAP set as higher priority, and authenticate using the name and password listed on the LDAP server. However, in the last case, if I set the LDAP domain as higher-priority in Directory Utility's search path and then provide the username/password pair listed in the NIS record, then my login is rejected even though the NIS server would accept it. Is there any way to make the OS check the rest of the search path after it finds the username?

• Slick 2d scrolling off screen

  I have something scrolling in and out of the screen. Now when it goes off screen, I want it to scroll into the screen at another location. What I do is I grab the last pixels at the screens edge using g.copyArea and then g.drawImage on the edge of the screen. And then I do a g.translate to create room for the next row which is next render cycle. My problem is that I get a single pixel row, which is not copied onto the canvas. Where as I want each row to be added and then translated, so that the image that scrolled off screen is recreated on the other side of the screen. • Control Targeted Browser Window

  When I have multiple browser windows open, I don't know how to control which is chosen to open a new link - when that link is selected in a non-browser application. For example, when I click a web link in OneNote or Word, the already-open browser that is chosen is whichever one of my Internet Explorer windows happens to have the least number of open browsing tabs. I would like to change that behavior. I'd like that each newly opened page, as selected from a non-browser app, always goes to the last internet explorer window I had active. Can this be done?

• MacBook Pro Trackpad freeze / holds click on its own

  My MacBook Pro's Trackpad shows an annoying behavior in the last few days. I think the only relevant thing that changed is the firmware for the Trackpad. An update has been distributed via Software Update a few days ago. Sometimes when i click somewhere the Trackpad won't recognize the mouseup, i.e. hold the click on its own. Clicking again seems to stop the holding and issue a new mousedown, but then again, no mouseup I.e. when i click on a file on the desktop the file will be dragged. But i can't stop dragging! Clicking in a browser or text document will select the text/images. Did anyone notice similar behavior? Any ideas or fixes?

• iTunes home sharing problem

  I have two iMacs running Snow Leopard. I have iTunes home sharing setup on the two of them using the same iTunes account credentials. Up until last night all worked fine... I could download an app on one iMac, then go to the other iMac and drag that app from the home sharing into that iMac's applications. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. I can see and browse the home sharing, however, when I go to drag an app or song from the share to the local library it gives me an error stating that I am unable to do so... when I click OK to this message I lose visibility to the home share. I have checked and this iMac is authorized with my iTunes account and I have even deauthorized and reauthorized but still the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Making python run on my webserver

  Hi all, im getting a bit stuck regarding options for running python scripts on my server. From the research ive done so far, i can see i need to modify apache slightly to run python scripts, by using either mod_wsgi or mod_python. Two issues i have: mod_python doesnt appear to be maintained anymore (last release, 2007) mod_wsgi appears to require modification of my httpd.conf file on a per application basis. What im wanting to know, is there a way of getting python scripts to run in the same way as php, i.e. just by going to index.py etc... or is it more involved than that? At present im just trying to set it up on my xampp install. Any help would be appreciated.

• Windows 2008 VPS always crashes when out of disk space

  Hello, I am renting a Windows server 2008 dc SP2 VPS for hosting my Asp.Net projects. Now for the second time this month my VPS ran out of disk space. The first time it was a log file that got to big and yesterday it was my mistake for uploading a website without noticing the lack of space on my VPS. Now the side effect this has is that my VPS corrupts some files when trying to write them. Last time it was Plesk that stopped working yesterday it was IIS. So I was wondering is this normal behavior? I called my service provider to ask if they could restore a back-up and to ask if this is normal and they ensured me it was. I am not trying to blame them and I know it's mostly my fault for not monitoring my VPS better or for not setting better defaults.

• How can Nagios handle non-threshold based plugins?

  I am writing a Nagios plugin to monitor trends of a certain storage resource utilization (e.g. gradual increases are fine, but an instantaneous/sudden increase or decrease in resource usage may indicate a problem). For what it's worth, it is reviewing the last N entries in an RRD file generated by a custom cacti data source/templates. What is the "right" way to handle Nagios notification config/implementation for this? The problem is that it the plugin would exit as warning/critical for one polling period, but in the next it would be fine (or 3 polling periods later, if I look at 3 polling periods worth of data). I guess the question is: should I just write it in such a way that it will alert for X polling periods, or should I find a way to write it such that manual intervention is required for it to clear (such as logging into the monitoring server or hitting a URL to run a script that submits a passive result)? Your input is appreciated, and if you have any tips for how to implement the latter I'm open to them (I can think of a few ways to possibly implement it)

• Methodologies for Managing Users and Access?

  This is something I'm having a hard time getting my head around. I think I might be making it more complicated than it is. What I'm trying to do is develop a method to store users in a database with varying levels of access, throughout different applications. I know this has been done before, but I don't know where to find how they did it. Here is an example of what I need to accomplish: UserA - Access to App1, App3, App4 & can add new users to App3, but not 4 or 1. UserB - Access to App2 only with ReadOnly access. UserC - Access to App1 & App4 and is able to access Admin settings of both apps. In the past I've just used user groups. However, I'm reaching a phase where I need a bit more control over each individual user's access to certain parts of the different applications. I wish this were as cut and dry as being able to give a user a role and let each role inherit from the last. Now, this is what I need to accomplish. But, I don't know any methods of doing this. I could easily just design something that works, but I know this has been done and I know this has been studied and I know this problem has been solved by much better minds than my own. This is for a web application and using sql server 2008. I don't need to store passwords (LDAP) and the information I need to store is actually very limited. Basically just username and access.
