• How to apply patterns when not all team members can follow them

  We're going to start a new huge project and while it's in the process of architecting the system, I have certain doubts whether I can apply patterns and be sure they won't be violated by team members. The problem is, not all team members have enough skills to develop asp.net apps let's say using MVP pattern. So maybe this question is addressed to Team leads, or experienced devs. Did you dealt with this kind of situation, and if so what was your solution. I was thinking to create the core by myself, and let 'em start building upon that core, however I'm not sure it will work out.

• Google Maps rendering locally but not in live environment

  I have a page that renders a simple google map for a specified location. This map renders without any problems at all when I run it locally on localhost, however, when I deploy this code to our live web servers (using our LIVE google API key for the appropriate domain) it fails to render, and upon putting a series of alerts within the javascript on the page, it appears that the 'Initialize' method (which should be called within body onLoad) is not being called. When I view the HTML source that is rendered on the live server it appears exactly as per the local version of the site (including the call to initialize() within the body onLoad event), albeit with the different maps API key. I have output the host (alert(window.location.host);) to ensure that the key I generated via the google maps api site, corresponds exactly to the live server, which it does. Does anyone have any ideas why it would be working locally but not when deployed to the live servers? The live site is hosted on 2 load-balanced web servers. • JNI: dll function works ok in C++ main, but not with dll wrapper

  I have an a.dll (not modifiable as i do not have the source) with a function bool openPort(DWORD mem).I wrote a c++ main, loaded this dll using LoadLibrary, and the function works well.It returns true. Now, I need to call this function from Java via JNI. • ActiveRecord Create (not !) Throwing Exception on Validation

  So I'm using ActiveRecord model validations to validate a form in a RESTful application. I have a create action that does: @association = Association.new and the receiving end of the form creates a data hash of attributes from the form parameters to save to the database using: @association = user.associations.create(data) I want to simply render the create action if validation fails. The problem is that the .create (not !) method is throwing an exception in cases where the model validation fails. Example: validates_format_of :url, :with => /(^$)|(^(http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.*)?$)/ix, :message => "Your url doesn't seem valid." in the model produces: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid Exception: Validation failed: Url Your url doesn't seem valid. I thought .create! is supposed throw an exception whereas .create is not. Am I missing something here? Ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 173 & rails 2.3.3

  I've read lot of articles saying, that Java EE is most popular enterprise solution nowadays. Let's not argue if it is most popular or second most popular or what. The thing is : I see almost all web pages with extension like .html, .php and .aspx. Why there is (almost) none .JSP ? Why so ease to find ASP.NET pages if it is supposed to be less popular? Please I am not programming with Java EE (yet) so don't blame me, if I am completely wrong. The answer with patience would be greatly appreciated!

If i remove the .live method and use the 'normal' way, ui effects defined in the first snipped are applied but only the the elements loaded before any AJAX request. The elements loaded after the ajax request are not affected by first snippet (though they have the same selector). Thanks for helping.

  I am trying to get the user idle state of my Windows Mobile device. When I run the function GetSystemPowerState (after 15 min of not touching the device) I get the following value: Dec: 302055424 Hex: 0x12010000 Bin: 10010000000010000000000000000 I was hoping that PowerState & POWER_STATE_USERIDLE == POWER_STATE_USERIDLE would be true. But POWER_STATE_USERIDLE is 0x01000000 and I have 0x02000000. I went to look up 0x02000000 and found that it is not in pm.h. What does 0x02000000 mean? Where could I go to find out?

• Intellisense for Javascript - not correct in Visual Studio 2008/2010

  var obj = document.getElementById("header"); Given the above code snippet, I should be able to wire event handlers. For example, I can wire onMouseDown to the mouse down event, the issue is that Visual Studio does not display this in the Intellisense. I'm trying something such as: obj.onmousedown = mousestatus; Based on a book I'm reading, the code is valid (at least it works) therefore I see no reason why Intellisense is not picking it up. I've tried this on both a standalone Javascript file, as well as an MVC project to no luck. Is there anything I'm doing wrong - or is there a way to resolve this?

• Ways not to write function headers twice?

  Hi, I've got a C/C++ question, can I reuse functions across different object files or projects without writing the function headers twice? (one for defining the function and one for declaring it) I don't know much about C/C++, Delphi and D. I assume that in Delphi or D, you would just write once what arguments a function takes and then you can use the function across diferent projects. And in C you need the function declaration in header files *again??, right?. Is there a good tool that will create header files from C sources? I've got one, but it's not preprocessor-aware and not very strict. And I've had some macro technique that worked rather bad. • Alternative to NOT EXISTS

  Hi all, I have two tables linked by an ID column, lets call them Table A and table B. My goal is to find all the records in table A that have no record in table B. For instance: Table A: ID----Value 1-----value1 2-----value2 3-----value3 4-----value4 Table B ID----Value 1-----x 2-----y 4-----z 4-----l As you can see, record with ID = 3 does not exist in table B, so i want a query that will give me record 3 from table A. the way i am currently doing this is by saying AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT ID FROM TableB) but since the tables are huge, the performance on this is terrible. Also, when i tried using a Left Join where TableB.ID is null, it didnt work. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

  Hello all, I am trying to display a text field that has text inside it, and display the flashing Caret at the end of the text.   Am I missing something or there really is no support for generic object type hinting in PHP 5.x? I find it really strange that hinting arrays is supported while hinting objects is not, at least not out of the box. I'd like to have something like this: function foo(object $o) Just as we have: function foo(array $o) Example of possible use: methods of an objects collection class. Workaround: using an interface "Object" implemented by all classes or extending all classes from a generic class "Object" and writing something like this: function foo(Object $o) Well, that just ain't cute. • VB 2010 Express - Debugger is not breaking on errors, Sub producing error simply terminates

  I'm using VB 2010 Express. When an error occurs in the form load function, the form load function simply terminates. Then, when I click on one of my buttons, the button click sub also terminates if it has an error. I can wrap the code that produces the errors in try/catch blocks, but I'd very much rather the debugger to throw an immediate break point (like usual) or at least exit the program. It's making it very difficult to program, not knowing whether or not previous Subs executed fully. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thanks

  Hi guys, I'd like to create a website with similar concept as 'Hot or Not' where users need to sign up to the website and then upload photos. Each photo can be given a description and some additional fields. Other users may comment and rate the photo entries. On top of that, users may favourite/bookmark (and remove) any photo entries and they're accessible via their profile page That's generally how the website will be. Can't decide on a CMS to use Somehow I'm at a crossroad here. I've done some research and found that Joomla has an extension that is able to pull this website off but the thing is I'm not that comfortable with using Joomla. I work with WordPress most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out how would I build this website with WordPress. Would using BuddyPress make it work? Would hiring a plugin developer to customize some plugins work? What do you guys think?

• On activate does not fire with my Modal/Pop-Up form to Requery

  I have a modal/pop-up form frmEditContact open on this form there is a combo box full of addressescmbAddressList, populated by a query. when the user wants to add an address that doesn't exist there is a button that opens the frmAddress where they may add an address. frmAddress allows them to enter an address to the list and gives the option to save, or cancel (both actions close the form after). with this form closed, the focus is now again on frmEditContact I would like to repopulate the combo box using docmd.Requery cmbAddressList after they close the other form I'm not sure where to handle this, I've tried On Avtivate, On Load, On Update, On Open, On Focus...but none of them fire as I keep the frmEditContact open when they are using the other form is there a way to keep frmEditContact open the whole time, but still an action Event that will fire so that I can Requery? And does On Activate not work with modal forms?

  In my cshtml file I have a form named 'ApplyMedicalMain' and I want to show a dynamically loaded division when the form is dirty but its not happening even though the form is dirty ... • ScrollViewr around expanders not scrolling automatically when expander is expanded - silverlight 3

  I have several expanders inside a ScrollViewer in a fixed sized ChildWindow. The problem is when each expander expanded,the scroll will not scrolling down automatically and as a result,some of the items in the bottom will get hidden and we have to manually scroll down to see them.   This has got me completely foxed for a couple of days now, and I am convinced that I will look stupid once I solve it, but will be even stupider if I don't ask for help now. I have mod_rewrite working successfully on my localhost (no vhosts involved; this is my laptop, my development machine), and I use .htaccess in various directories to help rewrite crufty URLs to clean ones. EXCEPT... it doesn't work in one directory. Since it is impossible to reproduce my entire laptop in this question, I provide the following details. In my httpd.conf, I have mod_rewrite.so loaded. I know this is hard to trouble shoot unless sitting physically at the computer in question, but I hope someone can give me some indication as to what is going on. **Update: ** There are no aliases involved anywhere. This is my laptop, and everything is under the above stated Document Root, so I just access each directory as http://localhost/. Yes, typos are a big possibility (I did say that I will look stupid once I solve it, however, for now, I have not discovered a single typo anywhere, and yes, I have restarted Apache about a dozen times now. I even thought that perhaps I had two different Apaches running, but no, I have only one, the one under /usr/local/apache2, and I installed it myself a while back.

• DLL Load Failed, Not a Valid Win32 App showing for both x86 & x64 DLLs

  Trying to run the latest version of heatmap. http://jjguy.com/heatmap/ DLL load keeps crapping out on me in both 64 & 32 bit dlls. (Similar questions on this seemed irrelevant as I've tried loading both DLLs) I'm running Windows 7. I have uninstalled and re-installed 2.7.3 64 bit. Idle Top line: Python 2.7.3 (default, Apr 10 2012, 23:24:47) [MSC v.1500 64 bit (AMD64)] on win32 I've tried loading C:\Python27\DLLs\cHeatmap-x86.dll ImportError: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. C:\Python27\DLLs\cHeatmap-x64.dll ImportError: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. I can run heatmap 1.1 but that was before DLLs were added.

  I have added a UITableView prototype Cell into a UIView for an iPad application using StoryBoard in Xcode (targeting iOS6). The problem I'm having is that the labels are not being recognized in my viewController when I try to reference them.
