How can I boot Windows XP Embedded from SD?
SD is connected directly to Intel US15W SCH (SDIO).
BIOS supports boot from SD (Linux boots successfully).
Thank you in advance,
Leonid.
I'm trying to compile a Perl source and I can't seem to find a version of nmake that works with Windows 7 64 bit. I've searched all over Microsoft's website and my Googlefu seems to be failing me. Can I use a different compiler- if so suggestions/resources? I'm a native Linux user so pardon my ignorance

Hi guys,
i like the post it sidebar app in windows 7, but it offers almost no features and so I'm looking for an alternative.
Some of this features would be nice:
- easy font formatting
- better resizeable
- an simple alert function
It should be small and simple to use, and not bloated with tons of features which are not often neede.
I was searching for a while but cant find something propper.
Anybody has an idea?
Thanks!
I'm looking to install a Linux distro on my Windows 7 machine. Could anyone suggest any tools to handle the multiboot? (I may install 2-3 distros to try out)
Can you suggest a good timer application for Windows?
It is surprising how useful a timer is for cooking, meditation, and for even giving oneself a timeout while working. I am not interested in any unwanted frills, just a simple light GUI timer that counts down and sounds when done.
Is there a way either built-in (don't think there is) or via a third-party to specify the volume on a per application basis in Windows XP? For example, right now I am listening to some music on fairly loudly and I would like all of the alerts I am getting from other apps (email, twitter updates, IMs) to be reduced.
Saving an Excel or Word 2007 file to a network share is very slow in Office 2007. It might take as long as two minutes two save a 100kb file. What could be causing this?
The network share is hosted on a Windows 2003 server.
Hello,
I have an 8GB USB Flash Drive, and the .iso file for XP Home edition (along with a valid CD key). One of my computers doesn't have an optical drive.
How do I put the .iso file on the flash drive, and reinstall Windows on the computer that doesn't have the optical drive?
Thanks!

In windows 7, I have a wifi network that shows up with a warning icon overlay and the "No internet access" description as shown in this image:
The other network shown there is a VirtualBox VM, and is expected to show that way.
Plainly, this notice is wrong as I have been browsing with that connection all afternoon and used it to post this question.
So my question is, what makes this message come up, and how can I make it go away?
Many years ago, I had a product called Quickeys for the Macintosh that allowed me to record keyboard and mouse events and create a macro that could be assigned to a keyboard accelerator.
This was a really useful tool, but I haven't seen anything like it ever on Microsoft Windows OS platform.
Does such a product exist?
Windows 7 has a new "Show Desktop" button all the way at the edge of the system tray area. Is there any way to get rid of it?
I never use it because I just press Win+D instead, and it's kind of annoying to me.
Thank you.

I am trying to get a Antivirus server for my Virtual Private Server that has Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 1.5 GB RAM and 40 GB HD. I see people have suggested for NOD32 or Kaspersky but they are not offering Internet security for one server in business edition (it starts with at least 5 PC) and they says I can't install home edition on my VPS as this is for business purpose.
Is there any good antivirus/internet security program that I can buy for my single VPS? Any suggestion will help me.
Thanks

Is there any applications that has full support for Lotus 4 Worksheets files and corresponding macros that work under Windows 7?
I have a rather legacy billing application that I still need to use and unfortunately, short of installing a VM to run Lotus 1-2-3, I can't find any information on a compatible application.
I have a windows Server 2008 instance as a guest on KVM. When I tried to run it via virtual machine manager, the process got frozen after few seconds and trying to resume the process lead to this error from virt-manager:
Error unpausing domain: internal error unable to execute QEMU command 'cont': Resetting the Virtual Machine is required
I tried to Reboot it without any success. Any help will be highly appreciated.
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise. When I click on a favorite folder (left hand pane) in a My Computer window, it opens into a new window even though I have the folder options set to "open each folder in the same window". Is there anyway to change this?
Machine A, Windows Server 2003. Machine B, Ubuntu 9.04.
Aim is to copy new and updated files as fast as possible from A to B. B can mount A either as CIFS or NFS (Services for Unix NFS server running on A). This is an absolutely time critical operation.
What is the best way of achieving this?
Note: benchmarked NFS vs CIFS and CIFS was faster and there was less variance in the speed (haven't tuned the NFS setup at all)
