• Windows 7 - swap file on a USB disk? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to move the page file to another physical disk location Windows 7 I was given temporarily a PC, running Windows 7 Ultimate. The problem is it's hard drive is full, there are like 250 MB free. The swap file is set to none. It has 4 GB RAM. When I load a few tabs in Chrome or IE and start a game it runs out of memory. I already emptied Recycle Bin, %temp%, etc. Deleting/moving user files or adding RAM is not an option. Now I have a USB 3 7200 RPM drive, it's connected to a USB 3 port and is really fast. Is there a way to create a swap file on that drive?

  Possible Duplicate: Remove auto-complete field entries in Google Chrome Ok... so this is embarrassing. I typed in "boobs" on EncyclopediaDramatica's search because, well, it's a really funny page. But now I've got a problem... EVERY TIME I click a search feild in Chrome now, it shows "boobs" as the first suggestion in the drop down! This is not really socially acceptable as this laptop goes with me everywhere and Chrome is my primary browser. Is there a way I can isolate and remove just that one entry?

• Color Profiles in Windows 7 vs. XP

  I have a Brother Color Laser Printer and an HP 8150DN. I have a local Windows 7 Pro machine that I do graphics work on. I created a letterhead that when printed from my machine looks dark and rich on either the mono HP or the color Brother laser. I take this same letterhead, and move it onto our network for use by our users which are all on XP. Then they print the same file, it is washed out on either printer. I've confirmed that the printer settings we're using are identical. I've confirmed that its not related to the program or even specifically to the letterhead. I can duplicate this with other files too. I'm down to XP vs Windows 7 being the issue. I'm fairly certain now that color profiles are involved. I have no clue how to fix it though. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

• Learning Objective-C: Need advice on populating NSMutableDictionary

  I am teaching myself Objective-C utilizing a number of resources, one of which is the Stanford iPhone Dev class available via iTunes U (past 2010 class). One of the home work assignments asked that I populate a mutable dictionary with a predefined list of keys and values (URLs). I was able to put the code together, but as I look at it, I keep thinking there is probably a much better way for me to approach what I'm trying to do: Populate a NSMutableDictionary with the predefined keys and values Enumerate through the keys of the dictionary and check each key to see if it starts with "Stanford" If it meets the criteria, log both the key and the value I would really appreciate any feedback on how I might improve on what I've put together. • What Qt container class to use for a sorted list?

  Part of my application involves rendering audio waveforms. The user will be able to zoom in/out of the waveform. Starting at fully zoomed-out, I only want to sample the audio at the necessary internals to draw the waveform at the given resolution. Then, when they zoom in, asynchronously resample the "missing points" and provide a clearer waveform. (Think Google Maps.) I'm not sure the best data structure to use in Qt world. Ideally, I would like to store data samples sorted by time, but with the ability to fill-in points as needed. So, for example, the data points might initially look like: data[0 ms] = 10 data[10 ms] = 32 data[20 ms] = 21 ... But when they zoom in, I would get more points as necessary, perhaps: data[0 ms] = 10 data[2 ms] = 11 data[4 ms] = 18 data[6 ms] = 30 data[10 ms] = 32 data[20 ms] = 21 ... Note that the values in brackets are lookup values (milliseconds), not array indices. In .Net I might have used a SortedList<int, int>. What would be the best class to use in Qt? Or should I use a STL container?

It wouldn't work either, complains about "not all parameters were given explicit matchers: either all parameters must be specified by matchers or all must be specified by values, you cannot mix matchers and values"

• Two virtual computers using one laptop?

  Hi, I have a laptop and an external display. I am able to use the external display either as extended desktop OR duplicate desktop. I also use a separate keyboard and mouse. So effectively, the laptop acts just as a box without display. I want to know is it possible to use the laptop as 2 virtual PCs. (with separate control). I.E., one person uses the laptop as a laptop, and other person can simultaneously connect a keyboard and mouse and the external display and effectively get a second PC. OS I am using - windows (thought solution for other OSes are welcome). Laptop is a Dell Precision M6300. thanks JP

• Simulating pass by reference for an array reference (i.e. a reference to a reference) in Java

  I was wondering, in java, is it possible to in anyway, simulate pass by reference for an array? Yes, I know the language doesn't support it, but is there anyway I can do it. Say, for example, I want to create a method that reverses the order of all the elements in an array. (I know that this code snippet isn't the best example, as there is a better algorithms to do this, but this is a good example of the type of thing I want to do for more complex problems). Currently, I need to make a class like this: public static void reverse(Object[] arr) { Object[] tmpArr = new Object[arr.length]; count = arr.length - 1; for(Object i : arr) tmpArr[count--] = i; // I would like to do arr = tmpArr, but that will only make the shallow // reference tmpArr, I would like to actually change the pointer they passed in // Not just the values in the array, so I have to do this: count = arr.length - 1; for(Object i : tmpArr) arr[count--] = i; return; } Yes, I know that I could just swap the values until I get to the middle, and it would be much more efficient, but for other, more complex purposes, is there anyway that I can manipulate the actual pointer?   According to the documentation of the == operator in MSDN, For predefined value types, the equality operator (==) returns true if the values of its operands are equal, false otherwise. For reference types other than string, == returns true if its two operands refer to the same object. For the string type, == compares the values of the strings. User-defined value types can overload the == operator (see operator). So can user-defined reference types, although by default == behaves as described above for both predefined and user-defined reference types. So why does this code snippet fail to compile? void Compare<T>(T x, T y) { return x == y; } I get the error Operator '==' cannot be applied to operands of type 'T' and 'T'. I wonder why, since as far as I understand the == operator is predefined for all types? Edit: Thanks everybody. I didn't notice at first that the statement was about reference types only. I also thought that bit-by-bit comparison is provided for all value types, which I now know is not correct. But, in case I'm using a reference type, would the the == operator use the predefined reference comparison, or would it use the overloaded version of the operator if a type defined one? Edit 2: Through trial and error, we learned that the == operator will use the predefined reference comparison when using an unrestricted generic type. Actually, the compiler will use the best method it can find for the restricted type argument, but will look no further. • Wpf: Loading DataGrid in Groupbox causes Groupbox to be too tall

  I have a GroupBox that contains a stackpanel holding a textbox and a datagrid. When I use the textbox to populate the datagrid. Sometimes I need to load the datagrid with values. What I am noticing is that when the groupbox renders when the datagrid has values that the height of the groupbox is maxed out to the size of its parent container. And when I add a value via the textbox the groupbox snaps back to its proper height. Is there something that I am missing? However I am trying to create an autocomplete that sends the current value to a PHP script and then returns the necessary values. • Apache2 conditional section based on port

  I don't know much about if statements in apache configuration, and I'm wondering if I can have a section of the configuration applied only if the request is received on a certain port. In short, this is about SSL. I have name based virtual hosts, I can make a configuration for port 80, then duplicate it all for port 443, and add the relevant SSL configurations. But this seems redundant. I was wondering if i can have something like: <VirtualHost *:80 *:443> and then I can put: <IfModule mod_ssl.c> SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile ... SSLCertificateKeyFile ... SSLCACertificateFile ... </IfModule> inside an if statement that checks if connection is on port 443... or is such thing impossible? the server supports SNI, and I don't have any worries from non-SNI compliant browsers.

  Possible Duplicate: Can you help me with my capacity planning? I would like to scale a web application to the Cloud and wanted to know if anyone had any experience calculating costs and could tell me how I would go about that. I have NO experience with cloud services at all. Currently my production environment consists of two web servers and one database server. If the application continues on a linear growth path, eventually, I want to scale to the cloud to avoid any more long term commitments to extra hardware. I want to be able to create a similar environment I have now as a baseline. Have this as my fixed cost that I will always have. I also want to calculate my variable costs that will increase with more users or bandwidth. I don't have a preferred cloud vendor. Amazon, Rackspace, Terremark or any other is fine as long as understand how to calculate my fixed and variable costs.

  Hi, In mysql i m selecting from a table shouts having a foreign key to another table named "roleuser" with the matching column as user_id Now the user_id column in the shouts table for some rows is null (not actually null but with no inserts in mysql) How to show all the rows of the shouts table either with user_id null or not I m executing the sql statement SELECT s.*, r.firstname, r.lastname FROM shouts s left join roleuser r where r.user_id = s.user_id limit 50; which does not executes and shows You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'where r.user_id = s.user_id limit 50' at line 2 but using inner join the sql executes which shows rows which only have user_id values in the shouts table. the nulls are not shown. SELECT s.*, r.firstname, r.lastname FROM shouts s inner join roleuser r where r.user_id = s.user_id limit 50; How can i show all the rows from the shouts table and null values in the firstname and lastname columns where the user_id is null in the shouts table.   I have a really tricky thing going up here. My project has around 100 tables and they are all mapped by LINQ. Everything works fine in a dev and test environment. These enviroments are MS Win 2008 r2 servers with SQL 2008 sp1 databases. IIS and SQL are on a different machines. Now on production enviroment which is MS Win 2003 x64 web farm + geoclustered SQL 2008 IT DOES not work.
