• Play framework 1.x on Tomcat - httpOnly cookies

  I'm setting application.session.httpOnly=true in the application.conf and generating a war file and deploying on tomcat. I still see the cookie generated as HttpOnly=No and it is editable. This is an issue with play 1.x running on tomcat 6 (i.e. servlet api 2.x). Apparently, http only flag for cookies was only introduced in servlet 3.0 and so is only available in tomcat 7+ has anybody identified a workaround for this so far (so I could have http only cookies for play 1.x on tomcat 6.x ) ? the httpOnly flag on context in tomcat only works for tomcat's jsessionid cookie... also, can I run a play 1.x app on servlet 3.0 ? PS: This was also posted on the play framework's google groups but we did not receive a response and so posting on SO.

  I want to make a simple examing application on RoR 2.3. The problem area is to make an exam_session in a one form with only one submit action. For the exam session there are selected some number of questions from the question pool in random order. For these questions there are selected some number of alternatives (to check is this a single answer question or multi answer question I use the number of correct alternatives: if only 1 - single, 1 - multi. Radiobuttons or checkboxes in form to answer depends on it). I have models: Questions ---< Alternative and ExamSession. I think there must be has_many :through relations between ExamSession and Questions and has_many :through relation between the intermediate table (for example QuestionsExamSession) and Alternative to point what alternatives are answers of the student on this Question. So the questions are: Is this scheme is too complicated and there is a way to do it simple and clear? Is there any way to organize models in such a way to make the form I want to work?

  I have 3 tables items (columns are: name , type) history(columns are: date, username, item_id) user(username, password) When a user say "ABC" logs in and creates a new item, a history record gets created with the following after_create filter. • Glassfish v3 Domain Output Log is not ending after the netbeans debug is stopped

  I would like to know if anybody is experiencing the problem on endless if log that is too long when Netbeans Debugging session is stopped? We use java logging in our web application but if I stop the debug, suddenly in the Output Glassfish v3 Domain window, there are a lot of log that is being dump. The log would last so long, that I need to click the Stop the Server because if I don't the Netbeans logger would consume too much memory that makes it too slugish later. I am not sure how long until the log stop but it last for minutes. Any ideas here?

• How can I use Spring Security without sessions?

  I am building a web application with Spring Security that will live on Amazon EC2 and use Amazon's Elastic Load Balancers. Unfortunately, ELB does not support sticky sessions, so I need to ensure my application works properly without sessions. So far, I have setup RememberMeServices to assign a token via a cookie, and this works fine, but I want the cookie to expire with the browser session (e.g. when the browser closes). I have to imagine I'm not the first one to want to use Spring Security without sessions... any suggestions?

• weird characters displayed during serial communication OSX

  I have tried communicating via serial (OSX w/ prolific drivers - USB RS232 adapter - Tx,Rx and GND pins on device serial ttl port) to a device and done so successfully using screen /dev/tty.usbserial 115200 8N1 I get to log in and use it as if I was SSH or TelNetted in... However whenever I try to go into system recovery mode (holding CTRL+1) while the device is powering on, it starts displaying weird characters and until I close the screen session it will continue showing weird characters: Of course when we tried doing the same thing on my boss' macbook running windows and PuTTY and everything worked fine, even in system recovery mode; characters were displayed properly. What gives? Id like to learn the intuition to use because up till now I concluded that since I can bot into the system and see characters normally everything about the connection should be fine and its must have been the recovery partition that was broken.   Hi, I have a module which uses Hibernate as an ORM solution with EHCache as second level cache. I have another seperate module which inserts and updates the database. What I need is to have the ability to trigger an event when a row is inserted or updated. Let's say I have a Customers table and it is mapped to a Customer entity. I want some procedure to notify me that a new Customer has been added. Regarding the second seperate module it uses Hibernate also but at least for the time being they are not connected (I'm pointing this out as if someone thinks that I must share the Hibernate session (or something of the sort) between them then this is something I will consider). Please note that I have limited experience with Hibernate. Thanks in advance

  Hello, I have a system where registered users can vote up/vote down comment for a picture. Something very similar to SO's voting system. I store the votes in a table with values as such; vote_id | vote_comment_id | vote_user_id | vote_date Now I have few a question concerned the speed and efficiency for the following; PROB: Once a user opens the picture page with comments I need, if that user has already voted UP/DOWN a comment to show it like; "you voted up" or "you voted down" next to the comment (in SO it the vote image is highlighted) MY POSSIBLE SOL: Right now when I open a picture page for each comment I loop thru, I loop thru my table of votes as well and check if a user has voted and show the status (I compare the vote_user_id with the user's session). How efficient is this? Anyone have a better approach to tackle this kind of problem?

What about a desktop app(windows service, console, ...)? There is no session and request in a desktop app. How should i manage UoW in this situation? any good reference or article? • Re-send POST request easily - what tools?

  I am looking for an easy way to re-send POST request to the server within the browser mainly for debug purposes. Say you have a XHR request which contains POST parameters that is to be send to the server. After having changed the script on the server side, you would like to resent the very same request for analyzing the output. What tool could help? I guess it is a browser's extension. I already tried extension Tamper Data for Firefox which does the job as you can "Replay in browser". But for my taste, it is not enough straight forward, as there are 3 - 4 clicks to get the result of the request. Unfortunately, curl would not be suitable for my needs as my application has a session's cookie.

I could repeat the requisite conversions a dozen times by putting them in each of the callers, but it seems much more efficient to do it once in the called method. public String myMethod(String myArg) { return DoSomething(myArg); } public Int32 myMethod(String myArg) { return Convert.ToInt32(DoSomething(myArg)); } private String DoSomething(key) { return SomeList[key]; } If I have multiple methods that pull data from SomeList and have to utilize different data types then in each I have to do a type conversion. • ASP.NET MVC ,Maintaining Model State between Ajax requests

  problem: On first full page request, my controller invokes an applicationServices Layer (Web Service Proxy to my business tier) in order to populate a collection of current services that is stored in my own controller base class property. This is then to be displayed within a view. Everything within the context of that controller has access to this "Services Collection". Now when i make further calls to the same action method via an AJAX Call, i obviously hitt a different instance of that controller meaning my services collection is empty. So other than re-getting the whole collection again, where would i store this collection so it gets persisted between ajax requests? Should i persist it as a seperate DomainModel Object, Session object?....as ViewData is not working for me obv. Excuse my MVC ignorance :) Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  Can i track the http referer with javascript, and append a variable to the URL string to store into a dbase? or could i track a cookie that the user gets? (very layman's terms here, sorry) if http referrer is domain.com add to url '&referer=google' which should stay with them during their session. OR when a user clicks my Google adwords ad. they get a cookie with a referring domain in it. try to read that cookie, and append the same variable. any thoughts?

• Free internet radio station server software with remote broadcasting?

  I am in the process of creating an internet radio station, but the two djs I have for it are not able to be in one place. I need for them to be able to login to a web based broadcasting session that still has full functionality. They need to be able to broadcast thier live shows with talk and music. The music will be stroed on the server. I have checked out the Broadwave media streaming server from NCH, but ti does not have the ability to login as a dj from a remote computer. I don't have any money for this, so I need it to be free. If this is not possible, I need it to be cheap!

  Correct me if anything is wrong. Now when we use Spring DAO for ORM templates, when we use @Transactional attribute, we do not have control over the transaction and/or session when the method is called externally, not within the method. Lazy loading saves resources - less queries to the db, less memory to keep all the collections fetched in the app memory. So, if lazy=false, then everything is fetched, all associated collections, that is not effectively, if there are 10,000 records in a linked set. Now, I have a method in a DAO class that is supposed to return me a User object. It has collections that represent linked tables of the database. I need to get a object by id and then query its collections. Hibernate "failed to lazily initialize a collection" exception occurs when I try to access the linked collection that this DAO method returns. Explain please, what is a workaround here?

• How to use sessions with django piston auth?

  The problem is that I want to store authentication in a cookie that I can present to django piston rather than requiring user/password to be typed in each time (without hardcoding or storing the user/pass combo somewhere on disk). I was hoping to accomplish this with cookies like someone would without the piston API. Am I missing something? Django Piston doesn't seem to care about session cookies at all? Or can someone suggest a good alternative? Maybe I shouldn't use Piston?

While if I copy the URL to the browser I get the result and I see the exception. I want to detect if the user is logged in and the session data is valid. What might be wrong?

  Some installations that run our applications can be under hefty stress on a busy day. Our clients ask us is there is a way to manage priorities in our application. For example, in a typical internet banking application, banks are interested in having the form “Transfer money” responsive, while the “Statement” page is a lot less critical. Not being able to transfer money is a direct loss for the bank, while not being able to produce a statement or something similar can be fixed with an apology. AFAIK, neither can you manage different request or session timeouts in a typical web application, it is one value for the whole of your web app. Managing message priority and expiry time is a typical feature in many middleware platforms. Something like this can be useful for a web front end as well. Do any of web servers (either java or .net) or web frameworks provide these features? How would you go about implementing it if you’d have to go for roll-your-own?

  Has anybody some information about accessing Lotus Domino server to fetch entire mail contents by http(s) requests from php linux server? The article by Andrei Kouvchinnikov describes well how to fetch message list in notes mail folders; after obtaining session id during login one can for example select top 100 messages by calling: https://your.server.domain/mail_db/mailbox.nsf/($Inbox)?ReadViewEntries&Start=1&Count=100 And this works perfectly. The arises when I am trying to get message contents (0A1DA5EEB7B65277C12576F50055D811 is an example message unique Id): https://your.server.domain/mail_db/mailbox.nsf/($Inbox)/0A1DA5EEB7B65277C12576F50055D811/?OpenDocument Such request in IE shows frameset with data hard to parse, in less common browsers like Opera it informs about unsupported browser. Ideally if it is possible to fetch notes message contents and all attachments by requesting it in the url, has anybody some information what request would it be? Link to Lotus web calls reference would be even more beneficial.
