Simple P2V help from Linux to Windows

I have two OS's installed on different drives in my PC. One linux (Centos 5.4) and one windows 7. Its getting tiresome to constantly have to stop and restart the PC when I want to use either OS. I would very much like to use Windows 7 as my host OS and access my linux OS from within Windows. However, im having trouble deciphering exactly how to do this (many of the articles seem confusing and a bit overkill) From what i have seen its possible to use VMWare converter to convert the physical linux image to a virtual image so that I can use it in windows. As im having problems understanding how this is done, I would really appreciate a step by step guide (for a newbie), or any simple tutorials that you can point me at. Some questions beforehand: 1) My linux image is around 80gb, do i need to take this into consideration? The linux drive is around 180gb in total. All my other drives are NTFS non writeable in linux (as I use them in windows and ntfs is dodgy in linux), so probably not possible to move the image over to my ntfs drives 2) Can I just zip the linux files up somehow and transfer it to windows to create the p2v? 3) Is it possible to do the P2V conversion while I am logged into windows. I can see the actual linux drive loaded in disk manager, but windows doesnt read linux file systems so im confused as to how to access the linux drive if this is possible. 4) Or will i need to do the whole p2v conversion inside linux? Laptop choice for development: MacBook Pro 17 vs Dell Studio XPS 16 vs HP Envy 15

Hey! First things first - let me state that I am not intending to play games on this - I have narrowed down to these 3 purely based on specs and its individual brand reliability in the market. I intend to primarily use: Visual Studio 2008 Pro a lot (develop and deploy on Windows platforms) SQL Server 2005 Oracle 10g Adobe Photoshop CS4 Microsoft Expression Studio Google Sketchup I currently use a desktop PC (Core2Duo 2.66Ghz with 3GB DDRII memory) running Vista Business 32-bit - and I have to admit that, especially for Visual Studio, its quite sluggish to a point where it affects productivity. Furthermore, I intend to only use the notebook on a table - with a cooled surface, like granite :) - so I would appreciate people's input with regard to heat issues. Im aware that the Dell's primary exhaust gets blocked by the lid when open, but some reviews don't seem to place extraordinary emphasis on heat issues resulting from this. My options for the Dell/Alienware: Core i7 720QM 4GB DDRIII memory ATI mobility 3670 (512) 128GB Solid State Drive 16-inch Full HD RGB-LED LCD display (1080p) 3-year next-business-day support My configuration for the Apple MBP: Core2Duo 2.8Ghz (Im assuming the T9600) 4GB DDRIII memory 128GB Solid State Drive standard 1 year support The one advantage I think of with the MBP is that I can have the addition of OSX (though Im unsure what I would use it for, but purely to play around with a much-boasted-about OS) What are your thoughts on this, especially regarding build-quality, heat, performance and battery-life? Sticky connection and HTTPS support for HAProxy

We have 2 HTTP Load balancer with HAproxy and heartbeat. There are 4 apache nodes in this cluster. It's doing round robin load balancing. The HTTP cluster working fine. We are having problem with our portal because it uses SSO. We need sticky connection support in our HAproxy. Also we need load balancing for HTTPS traffic. How to calculate RAM value on performance per dollar spent

Hi, I'm trying to make decisions on buying a new PC. I have most specifications (processor/graphic card/hard disk) pin-downed except for RAM. I am wondering what is the best RAM configuration for the amount of money I'm spending. As the question of best is subjective, I'd like to know how would I calculate the value of RAM sticks sold. 1.(sample)The value of amount of memory: 1) CORSAIR PC1333 D3 2GB = costs $80 2) CORSAIR PC1333 D3 4GB = costs $190 would it be better to buy 2 of item 1) instead of 1 of item 2) ?? Although I would normally choose to have 1 of 2) as the difference is only (190-(80*2)) = 30 as I would save 1 DIMM slot, What I need is the value per amount: 1) 80/ 2 = $40 per 1GB 2) 190/ 4 = $47.5 per 1GB 2. The value of frequency: 1) CORSAIR PC1333 4GB = costs 190 2) CORSAIR PC1600C7 4GB = costs 325 Im not even sure of the denominator ... $ per 1 ghz speed? 3. The value of latency: 1) CORSAIR CMP1600C8 8-8-8-24 2GBx3 (triple channel) = costs 589 2) CORSAIR CMP1600C7D 7-7-7-20 2GBx3 (triple channel) = costs 880 Im not even sure of the denominator ... $ per 1 ghz speed? Just for your information i'd like to get the best out of the money im going to spend to put on a 6 DIMM slot i7core motherboard.

Including email, IMs, configs, etc. in documentation or notes

The shop I work in is pretty laid-back. We're on a documentation kick, only because historically we've been very bad with it. We do a lot of our brainstorming in face-to-face meetings, and also do a lot of communication via IM in addition to email. While I'm usually pretty good about documentation and keeping copious lab notes, I just finished a build of a host and spent hours searching through IMs, emails, files on my workstation, etc. to pull out anything I missed in my lab notes, which formed a large amount of the basis for the internal documentation. Does anyone have any thoughts on, aside from manually saving things to a project directory, managing various data sources (especially email and IM) and tracking them on project basis? Ideally, I'd like an easy way to put copies of emails, IM logs, etc. into a project-specific directory on my workstation and then just have a cron job that syncs that up with a shared folder. This isn't really a candidate for anything more advanced, as the bulk of the data will be copies of configs, code, etc. Here are the big restrictions: Email is via a centralized Zimbra install, so nothing can happen server-side. My workstation is Linux. Aside from writing Pidgin and Thunderbird plugins that let me tag chats and emails as belonging to a project, and then copy them to the appropriate place... any thoughts? Power issues Foxconn Barebones kit

I have a Foxconn R20D2 bought about a year and a half ago. It ran fine for a while and then around last summer it started having power issues. I chalked it up to changes in electric current due to the overwhelmed grid when people turn on their AC units, but this problem has stayed for all year, shutting off randomly, shutting off when i turn on a vacuum and similar problems. Now that its summer again, the box basically sits there all day cycling itself, and now has gotten to the point it tried to boot and after 3 seconds, fails, shuts off and tried again. I know its power related, it runs opensuse linux and there are never any shutdown logs or anything of that sort. As the weather got hotter i noticed it happening more and more, and it most often happened in the morning, i presume as people woke up and turn on the AC. The power supply is a Chennel well technology co LTD model DSL-150. 150W max output. Its an intel atom dual core, with 2 sata drives, no CD/floppy etc, recently upgrades from 2 to 4gb of ram. It runs at 104 degrees Fahrenheit all the time almost. Any way i can test the power supply or anything else to try to fix it? Im a software guy, not hardware so im at a complete loss here, thanks for all assistance you can provide! EDIT: The switch on the back that says 230 or 115 is set to 230. If im in the USA, could that be causing the problems?

Not getting IP from ISP on Multicast Network

Im having an odd issue with my ISP (COMX.dk) I have a managed access gateway box (Telsay) with three 8P8C ports for use with Internet and Ip-Tv (respectively on different VLANS (so does my ISP tell me)) To utilize a port you will need to register your device's mac address through an online interface. You will then get your device paired with a static ip. I am using one port actively and I have registered another device (router). The router is configured to listen for an active dhcpd on the network. When my router get a lease I get a private ip 192.168.2.2 (not the one bound to my mac) which is odd! I unconnected my router from the gateway and connected my laptop directly. Same thing happened - I was given a private address. I did a port scan on the gateway and found port 80 to be open and browsed to the ip. I was then presented with a management interface of a Belkin wireless router (HMMM!!!!) <--by the way, not my gear At this point I called the ISP to let them know of my issue/findings - Only to be replied "Well, we cant see any rogue dhcp servers" (thinking to myself, well I can) I then decided that it could be fun to try the other port of my gateway, only to experience the same. So I reconnected my router and used the remaining port to make an observer(wireshark promic etc.) I am able to see my router trying to discover a dhcp server but I can also see my ISP's IGMP and PIMv2 packages just repeating the same pattern. Hello...Hello...Hello :) So I called them again, only to get the same response, "we dont see any rogue dhcp's...we cant see the host you are talking to (mac address of the Belkin router)...you are definitively connected through wireless?!?(no im not, no such thing as a wireless wire - i thought to myself)" My questions is, What is going on? (besides from what im reporting here) What am I seeing that the don't? What can I tell them in order for them to resolve mine/their issue?

SSH agent forwarding on debian squeeze

Im trying to set up SSH forwarding like this osx debianA debianB I can connect to debianA fine, using ssh -A and it has the following env vars when i do: SSH_AGENT_PID=1543 SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-giwdYY1542/agent.1542 SSH_CLIENT='92.233.199.x 38954 22' SSH_CONNECTION='92.233.199.x 38954 108.171.179.x 22' SSH_TTY=/dev/pts/0 When i try to connect to debianB, the agent is not used! ssh -v output ends with: debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /home/nic/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /home/nic/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: Next authentication method: password Then im asked for a password. I have not set any ForwardAgent no directives in ssh_config and dont have a .ssh/config at all. sshd_config has not got AllowAgentForwarding in it. I have tried all of these directives as yes also. debianA and debianB both have identical ssh_config and sshd_config (verified with diff) so the really weird thing is connecting OSX debianB debianA works fine!! High CPU usage with Team Speak 3.0.0-rc2

The CPU usage is always around 40 percent. I use push-to-talk and I had uninstalled pulseaudio. Now I use Alsa. I don't even have to connect to a Server. By simply starting TS the cpu usage goes up 40 percent and stays there. The CPU usage of 3.0.0-rc1 [Build: 14468] is constantly 14 percent. UPDATE: Thanks to nickguletskii's link I googled for "alsa cpu usage" (without quotes) and it brought me to a forum. A user wrote that by directly selecting the hardware with "plughw:x.x" won't impact the performance of the system. I have selected it in the TS 3 configuration and it worked. But this solution is not optimal because now no other program can access the sound output. If you need any further information or my question is unclear than please tell me.

The top right corner of the next image should look like, the bottom left is what turned out in the code. I'm think it was because of the texture region but I'm not 100%. Can somebody explain why it is really warped? I thought the changes I made in the coding will just change position/rotation, rather then a change in the image.

How to keep balance / Unlock items / achievement rules

I'm working on an engine for a game, too learn javascript and just because its fun. I'm a flashdeveloper, I know how to build websites. Now making games is a different challenge, javascript is a challenge, but I'd love to learn how to structure code and what patterns are common. I dont mind if the game ever finish, I'm mostly interested in the programming part of it. I dont have a particular endresult in mind, so I'll see where it takes me. I currently have a system where you can buy items. The items cost a specified amount of gold, silver, diamonds etc. When you have selected and bought the item, it takes time before getting rewarded. When time is over, you are getting rewarded with other properties (gold, energy, diamonds). For example, you can buy an apple for 50gold, It takes a minute, you get rewarded with 75energy. Or if you take a run, it cost 50energy, it takes 5minutes, reward is 25gold and 25silver. These definitions is what i call actions. Currently I already have a system where this already works and I can define as much actions with as much properties as I want. Lets say, if you buy 10 apples, you unlock a new action, like bananas which cost more, and reward more. In the future I maybe want to restrict achievements and actions to levels. I am kinda stuck how to structure this. I have 2 questions: Which patterns are used to define achievements? How/where are they defined? Should it be part of the action, or should it be a separate controller? Is it a good idea to register all completed actions to it? I think I want multiple types of achievement rules, Id love to hear some ideas how to develop it. How do you create/find a good balance, so the user does not get stuck or can cheat by repeat a pattern of actions to get too much rewards. I know there is not a simple answer and i'm lacking of a good game-concept, but I wonder if anyone created such a game and how you dealed and played with it.

Fuji camera "mounts" but folder not in Dolphin After Kubuntu 13.10 upgrade

Fuji camera mount reported in attached devices but not visible in Dolphin After Kubuntu 13.10 upgrade Have reinstalled the driver, and a few other suggestions, for other cameras mounts failing on previous Ubuntu upgrades. I have already spent a couple of hours trying to get my photo's off the camera, very annoying. Hi everyone, Im trying to plot the roots of a polynomial, and i just cant get it. First i create my polynomial p5 = [1 0 0 0 0 -1] %x^5 - 1 r5 = roots(p5) stem (p5) Im using the stem function, but I would like to remove the stems, and just get the circle around the roots. Is this possible, is stem the right command? Thanks in advance, PS: This is not homework, but very close, will tag it if requested.

How can I call winrar in perl on windows

Is it possible to call winrar through perl on a windows system, such as perl -e "rar a -rr10 -s c:\backups\backup.rar @backup.lst" If so, is there a more efficient way to do this? I've looked up "perl -e" +winrar on google, however none of the results gave me any answer that was remotely close to what i was looking for. The system Im running this on is a Windows XP system. Im open to doing this in another language like python if its easier, however I am more comfertable with perl.

How to improve performance of Jquery autocomplete

Hi, i was planning to use jquery autocomplete for a site and have implemented a test version. Im now using an ajax call to retrieve a new list of strings for every character input. The problem is that it gets rather slow, 1.5s before the new list is populated. What is the best way to make autocomplete fast? Im using cakephp and just doing a find and with a limit of 10 items. UIpopover is presenting user with a 'done' button that I can't get rid of

I'm not sure why this is coming up I am porting my app into an ipad version and moving one of my views which happens to be a navigation controller into a uipopover. I did have a uibarbutton item on the view im porting with a "done" button to dismiss the navcontroller but I commented out that code and its still appearing, not sure why. I remember someone mentioning some versions of xcode are wonky with uipopovers anyone know which ones? im using 3.2.3
