  • Webservice returns java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException

    - by Damian
    Hi, I am receiving the above message when making a request to a java webservice. We originally created a Java Console application and manually submitted an xml file. When running this as a Java Application the response is successfully created and displayed by using System.out.println. We are creating the web service by selecting the java file that contains the methods and choosing "create webservice" specifying the dynamic project that the webservice is to be created in and the methods to be exposed. What the application is doing is taking an xml file and unmarshalling this to an object using: public static Object unmarshalToObject(Class classToBeBound, String xmlRequest) { Object obj = new Object(); try { JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance(classToBeBound); Unmarshaller um = jc.createUnmarshaller(); obj = um.unmarshal(new StringReader(xmlRequest)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace() } return obj; } Some processing is carried out on the file and then an object is marshalled to xml as follows: public static String marshalToXML(Object data) { StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); try { logger.info("Create new Marshall"); JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("ContextPathName"); logger.info("Marshalled to xmlObjects"); Marshaller marshaller = jc.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, true); marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FRAGMENT, true); marshaller.marshal(data, sw); } catch (Exception e) { logException(logger, e); } return sw.toString(); } The following is the line of code that seems to be causing an issue as the logger displays the message prior to this: JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("ContextPathName"); The webservice never gets to the next line - the following is the body of the SOAP message: <soapenv:Fault> <faultcode>soapenv:Server.userException</faultcode> <faultstring>java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException</faultstring> <detail> <ns1:hostname xmlns:ns1="http://xml.apache.org/axis/">servername</ns1:hostname> </detail> </soapenv:Fault> I have added Try/Catch around this section of code even as far as looking for JAXBExceptions but this does not seem to catch anything - nor does the general exception. This issue does not occur when running the console application. The build path for this includes the following contents of sun\jwsdp-2.0\jaxb\lib: jaxb-api.jar jsr173_1.0_api.jar jaxb-impl.jar I have added these to the lib folder in the WEB-INF file of the dynamic project. I am running the webservice in JBuilder 2008 R2 and using SOAPUI to submit the request - this points to the wsdl generated when creating the webservice. If anyone has any help or ideas on how to solve this could they please reply - thanks for taking the time to read this post!

  • C# Design Questions

    - by guazz
    How to approach unit testing of private methods? I have a class that loads Employee data into a database. Here is a sample: public class EmployeeFacade { public Employees EmployeeRepository = new Employees(); public TaxDatas TaxRepository = new TaxDatas(); public Accounts AccountRepository = new Accounts(); //and so on for about 20 more repositories etc. public bool LoadAllEmployeeData(Employee employee) { if (employee == null) throw new Exception("..."); EmployeeRepository emps = new EmployeeRepository(); bool exists = emps.FetchExisting(emps.Id); if (!exists) { emps.AddNew(); } try { emps.Id = employee.Id; emps.Name = employee.EmployeeDetails.PersonalDetails.Active.Names.FirstName; emps.SomeOtherAttribute; } catch() {} try { emps.Save(); } catch(){} try { LoadorUpdateTaxData(employee.TaxData); } catch() {} try { LoadorUpdateAccountData(employee.AccountData); } catch() {} ... etc. for about 20 more other employee objects } private bool LoadorUpdateTaxData(employeeId, TaxData taxData) { if (taxData == null) throw new Exception("..."); ...same format as above but using AccountRepository } private bool LoadorUpdateAccountData(employee.TaxData) { ...same format as above but using TaxRepository } } I am writing an application to take serialised objects(e.g. Employee above) and load the data to the database. I have a few design question that I would like opinions on: A - I am calling this class "EmployeeFacade" because I am (attempting?) to use the facade pattern. Is it good practace to name the pattern on the class name? B - Is it good to call the concrete entities of my DAL layer classes "Repositories" e.g. "EmployeeRepository" ? C - Is using the repositories in this way sensible or should I create a method on the repository itself to take, say, the Employee and then load the data from there e.g. EmployeeRepository.LoadAllEmployeeData(Employee employee)? I am aim for cohesive class and but this will requrie the repository to have knowledge of the Employee object which may not be good? D - Is there any nice way around of not having to check if an object is null at the begining of each method? E - I have a EmployeeRepository, TaxRepository, AccountRepository declared as public for unit testing purpose. These are really private enities but I need to be able to substitute these with stubs so that the won't write to my database(I overload the save() method to do nothing). Is there anyway around this or do I have to expose them? F - How can I test the private methods - or is this done (something tells me it's not)? G- "emps.Name = employee.EmployeeDetails.PersonalDetails.Active.Names.FirstName;" this breaks the Law of Demeter but how do I adjust my objects to abide by the law?

  • Exception hierarchy in java

    - by Abhishek Jain
    As Error and Exception are subclass of throwable class, we can throw any error, runtime ex and other ex. Also we can catch any of these type. Why do we usually catch only checked Exception? Can somebody provide me good links for exception with examples?

  • Connecting to MSSQL 2008 from Java

    - by Xinus
    I am trying to connect to MSSQL 2008 server from Java here is a program import java.sql.*; public class connectURL { public static void main(String[] args) { // Create a variable for the connection string. String connectionUrl = "jdbc:sqlserver://localhost/SQLEXPRESS/Databases/HelloWorld:1433;";// + //"databaseName=HelloWorld;integratedSecurity=true;"; // Declare the JDBC objects. Connection con = null; Statement stmt = null; ResultSet rs = null; try { // Establish the connection. Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"); con = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionUrl); // Create and execute an SQL statement that returns some data. String SQL = "SELECT TOP 10 * FROM Person.Contact"; stmt = con.createStatement(); rs = stmt.executeQuery(SQL); // Iterate through the data in the result set and display it. while (rs.next()) { System.out.println(rs.getString(4) + " " + rs.getString(6)); } } // Handle any errors that may have occurred. catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (rs != null) try { rs.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} if (stmt != null) try { stmt.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} if (con != null) try { con.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } } But it shows error as com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host localhost/SQLEXPRESS/Databases/HelloWorld, port 1433 has failed. Error: "null.   • Silverlight Dataform validation doesn't work

    - by VexXtreme
    Hi I can't get dataform and it's controls to catch exceptions when validating. Fir instance, I have: <PasswordBox Password="{Binding Password,Mode=TwoWay,NotifyOnValidationError=true,ValidatesOnExceptions=true}" /> All required properties are set to true. In the setter of my Password property I throw a ValidationException upon failed validation, but the data form doesn't catch it, it just causes the application to crash as if it were a normal exception. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

  • What's best practice to check if an object is part of a ManyToMany relationship in Django

    - by PhilGo20
    from an instance of Site with a ManyToMany relationship to Kiosk, i'd like to check if a Kiosk object is part of the relationship. I could do self.apps.get(id=app_id).exists() and check if True or self.apps.get(id=app_id) and catch the ObjectDoesNotExist error or self.apps.filter(id=app_id) and check if True If I have to catch a possible ObjectDoesNotExist error, I may as well use the second one I can do the second but doesnt seem super clean can use the third one but using filter on a unique ID seems wrong to me You can tell me to use whatever works and that'll be a valid answer ;-)

  • Tomcat JNDI Connection Pool docs - Random Connection Closed Exceptions

    - by Andy Faibishenko
    I found this in the Tomcat documentation here What I don't understand is why they close all the JDBC objects twice - once in the try{} block and once in the finally{} block. Why not just close them once in the finally{} clause? This is the relevant docs: Random Connection Closed Exceptions These can occur when one request gets a db connection from the connection pool and closes it twice. When using a connection pool, closing the connection just returns it to the pool for reuse by another request, it doesn't close the connection. And Tomcat uses multiple threads to handle concurrent requests. Here is an example of the sequence of events which could cause this error in Tomcat: Request 1 running in Thread 1 gets a db connection. Request 1 closes the db connection. The JVM switches the running thread to Thread 2 Request 2 running in Thread 2 gets a db connection (the same db connection just closed by Request 1). The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 1 Request 1 closes the db connection a second time in a finally block. The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 2 Request 2 Thread 2 tries to use the db connection but fails because Request 1 closed it. Here is an example of properly written code to use a db connection obtained from a connection pool: Connection conn = null; Statement stmt = null; // Or PreparedStatement if needed ResultSet rs = null; try { conn = ... get connection from connection pool ... stmt = conn.createStatement("select ..."); rs = stmt.executeQuery(); ... iterate through the result set ... rs.close(); rs = null; stmt.close(); stmt = null; conn.close(); // Return to connection pool conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice } catch (SQLException e) { ... deal with errors ... } finally { // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed, // and the connection is returned to the pool if (rs != null) { try { rs.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } rs = null; } if (stmt != null) { try { stmt.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } stmt = null; } if (conn != null) { try { conn.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } conn = null; } }

  • Test sql connection without throwing exception

    - by Alexandre Pepin
    To test if i can connect to my database, I execute the following code : using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString)) { try { connection.Open(); canConnect = true; } catch (SqlException) { } } This works except it throws an exception if the connection failed. Is there any other way to test a Sql connection that doesn't throw an exception ? Edit : To add precision, i'm asking if there is a simple method that does that without having to open the connection and catch exceptions that can occur

  • Eclipse - Handling Java Exceptions like in NetBeans

    - by Xorty
    I recently moved from NetBeans to Eclipse and I very much miss one great feature - whenever I use method which throws some kind of exception, NetBeans alerted me and I needed to add try-catch and NetBeans automatically generated exception type for me. Is there something similiar for Eclipse? f.e. : Integer.parseInt(new String("foo")); NetBeans alerts I need to catch NumberFormatException. Eclipse doesn't alert me at all I am using Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers, 3.5 - Galileo

  • How to retrive message list from p2p

    - by cre-johnny07
    Hello friends I have a messaging system that uses p2p. Each peer has a incoming message list and a outgoing message list. What I need to do is whenever a new peer will join the mesh he will get the all the incoming messages from other peers and add those into it's own incoming message list. Now I know when I get the other peer info from I can ask them to give their own list to me. But I'm not finding the way how..? Any suggestion on this or help would be highly appreciated. • JavaDB/Derby Error 08006

    - by Tom Brito
    In the article Using Java DB in Desktop Applications the Address Book demo have a method disconnect which have a try-catch block that catch and ignores the exception. If you add a printStackTrace you can see that the exception always occur. What's wrong here? The JavaDB should not throw this exception, or they should fix something in the example program?

  • How safe is my safe rethrow?

    - by gustafc
    (Late edit: This question will hopefully be obsolete when Java 7 comes, because of the "final rethrow" feature which seems like it will be added.) Quite often, I find myself in situations looking like this: do some initialization try { do some work } catch any exception { undo initialization rethrow exception } In C# you can do it like this: InitializeStuff(); try { DoSomeWork(); } catch { UndoInitialize(); throw; } For Java, there's no good substitution, and since the proposal for improved exception handling was cut from Java 7, it looks like it'll take at best several years until we get something like it. Thus, I decided to roll my own: (Edit: Half a year later, final rethrow is back, or so it seems.) public final class Rethrow { private Rethrow() { throw new AssertionError("uninstantiable"); } /** Rethrows t if it is an unchecked exception. */ public static void unchecked(Throwable t) { if (t instanceof Error) throw (Error) t; if (t instanceof RuntimeException) throw (RuntimeException) t; } /** Rethrows t if it is an unchecked exception or an instance of E. */ public static <E extends Exception> void instanceOrUnchecked( Class<E> exceptionClass, Throwable t) throws E, Error, RuntimeException { Rethrow.unchecked(t); if (exceptionClass.isInstance(t)) throw exceptionClass.cast(t); } } Typical usage: public void doStuff() throws SomeException { initializeStuff(); try { doSomeWork(); } catch (Throwable t) { undoInitialize(); Rethrow.instanceOrUnchecked(SomeException.class, t); // We shouldn't get past the above line as only unchecked or // SomeException exceptions are thrown in the try block, but // we don't want to risk swallowing an error, so: throw new SomeException("Unexpected exception", t); } private void doSomeWork() throws SomeException { ... } } It's a bit wordy, catching Throwable is usually frowned upon, I'm not really happy at using reflection just to rethrow an exception, and I always feel a bit uneasy writing "this will not happen" comments, but in practice it works well (or seems to, at least). What I wonder is: Do I have any flaws in my rethrow helper methods? Some corner cases I've missed? (I know that the Throwable may have been caused by something so severe that my undoInitialize will fail, but that's OK.) Has someone already invented this? I looked at Commons Lang's ExceptionUtils but that does other things. Edit: finally is not the droid I'm looking for. I'm only interested to do stuff when an exception is thrown. Yes, I know catching Throwable is a big no-no, but I think it's the lesser evil here compared to having three catch clauses (for Error, RuntimeException and SomeException, respectively) with identical code. Note that I'm not trying to suppress any errors - the idea is that any exceptions thrown in the try block will continue to bubble up through the call stack as soon as I've rewinded a few things.

  • c++ exceptions and program execution logic

    - by Andrew
    Hello everyone, I have been thru a few questions but did not find an answer. I wonder how should the exception handling be implemented in a C++ software so it is centralized and it is tracking the software progress? For example, I want to process exceptions at four stages of the program and know that exception happened at that specific stage: 1. Initialization 2. Script processing 3. Computation 4. Wrap-up. At this point, I tried this: int main (...) { ... // start logging system try { ... } catch (exception &e) { cerr << "Error: " << e.what() << endl; cerr << "Could not start the logging system. Application terminated!\n"; return -1; } catch(...) { cerr << "Unknown error occured.\n"; cerr << "Could not start the logging system. Application terminated!\n"; return -2; } // open script file and acquire data try { ... } catch (exception &e) { cerr << "Error: " << e.what() << endl; cerr << "Could not acquire input parameters. Application terminated!\n"; return -1; } catch(...) { cerr << "Unknown error occured.\n"; cerr << "Could not acquire input parameters. Application terminated!\n"; return -2; } // computation try { ... } ... This is definitely not centralized and seems stupid. Or maybe it is not a good concept at all?

If anyone could help, that would be great! We cannot seem to get the rewrite & Alias to work together. Thanks and God Bless!

  • NHibernate : recover session after connection lost

    I'm using NHibernate with SQL Server 2005 in a WPF client application. If I manually stop the SQL Server service and then restart it the session doesn't automatically reconnect. So far I'm doing this witch seems to work : try { using (ITransaction transaction = this.Session.BeginTransaction()) { // some select here } }catch(Exception ex) { if(this.Session.Connection.State == ConnectionState.Closed) { try { this.Session.Connection.Open(); } catch (Exception) { } } } Is there a better way ?

  • What is the most elegant way to implement a business rule relating to a child collection in LINQ?

    - by AaronSieb
    I have two tables in my database: Wiki WikiId ... WikiUser WikiUserId (PK) WikiId UserId IsOwner ... These tables have a one (Wiki) to Many (WikiUser) relationship. How would I implement the following business rule in my LINQ entity classes: "A Wiki must have exactly one owner?" I've tried updating the tables as follows: Wiki WikiId (PK) OwnerId (FK to WikiUser) ... WikiUser WikiUserId (PK) WikiId UserId ... This enforces the constraint, but if I remove the owner's WikiUser record from the Wiki's WikiUser collection, I recieve an ugly SqlException. This seems like it would be difficult to catch and handle in the UI. Is there a way to perform this check before the SqlException is generated? A better way to structure my database? A way to catch and translate the SqlException to something more useful? Edit: I would prefer to keep the validation rules within the LINQ entity classes if possible. Edit 2: Some more details about my specific situation. In my application, the user should be able to remove users from the Wiki. They should be able to remove any user, except the user who is currently flagged as the "owner" of the Wiki (a Wiki must have exactly one owner at all times). In my control logic, I'd like to use something like this: wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); And have any broken rules transferred to the UI layer. What I DON'T want to have to do is this: if(wikiUser.WikiUserId != wiki.OwnerId) { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } else { //Handle errors. } I also don't particularly want to move the code to my repository (because there is nothing to indicate not to use the native Remove functions), so I also DON'T want code like this: mRepository.RemoveWikiUser(wiki, wikiUser) mRepository.Save(); This WOULD be acceptable: try { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } catch(ValidationException ve) { //Display ve.Message } But this catches too many errors: try { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } catch(SqlException se) { //Display se.Message } I would also PREFER NOT to explicitly call a business rule check (although it may become necessary): wiki.WIkiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); if(wiki.CheckRules()) { mRepository.Save(); } else { //Display broken rules }

  • Working with hibernate/DAO problems

    - by Gandalf StormCrow
    Hello everyone here is my DAO class : public class UsersDAO extends HibernateDaoSupport { private static final Log log = LogFactory.getLog(UsersDAO.class); protected void initDao() { //do nothing } public void save(User transientInstance) { log.debug("saving Users instance"); try { getHibernateTemplate().saveOrUpdate(transientInstance); log.debug("save successful"); } catch (RuntimeException re) { log.error("save failed", re); throw re; } } public void update(User transientInstance) { log.debug("updating User instance"); try { getHibernateTemplate().update(transientInstance); log.debug("update successful"); } catch (RuntimeException re) { log.error("update failed", re); throw re; } } public void delete(User persistentInstance) { log.debug("deleting Users instance"); try { getHibernateTemplate().delete(persistentInstance); log.debug("delete successful"); } catch (RuntimeException re) { log.error("delete failed", re); throw re; } } public User findById( java.lang.Integer id) { log.debug("getting Users instance with id: " + id); try { User instance = (User) getHibernateTemplate() .get("project.hibernate.Users", id); return instance; } catch (RuntimeException re) { log.error("get failed", re); throw re; } } } Now I wrote a test class(not a junit test) to test is everything working, my user has these fields in the database : userID which is 5characters long string and unique/primary key, and fields such as address, dob etc(total 15 columns in database table). Now in my test class I intanciated User added the values like : User user = new User; user.setAddress("some address"); and so I did for all 15 fields, than at the end of assigning data to User object I called in DAO to save that to database UsersDao.save(user); and save works just perfectly. My question is how do I update/delete users using the same logic? Fox example I tried this(to delete user from table users): User user = new User; user.setUserID("1s54f"); // which is unique key for users no two keys are the same UsersDao.delete(user); I wanted to delete user with this key but its obviously different can someone explain please how to do these. thank you

I'm keeping in mind these devices are newer and have better hardware but am also wondering if the platform and the implementation affect performance much and if there is anything that could reduce runtimes on 2.2 devices. Note, the classes.dex of the .apk being accessed is roughly 4MB. Thanks!
