• Right to Left UI in iPhone (Hebrew)

  Hello, I'm struggling in creating a RTL UI in iPhone application. The framework doesn't seem to have any support for RTL languages. The only thing is the alignment inside labels, which is nice, but it conflicts with other controls behaviour. The question is: Is there a working code for a RTL TableView? Something that would handle the disclosure buttons to be on the left, section titles to be right aligned, index view to be left aligned? As far as I understand I cannot move the index view of the tableview, i have to overlay some custom control... Any suggestions/pointers/examples? p.s. this is not a duplication of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1677988/right-to-left-alignment-for-uitableview since what I am looking for is a deeper customization, not just a new type of CellView. (Update: Mar 10) For now - I've removed support for indexView from the tableView at all, implemented the cells as custom views by myself (with disclosure buttons on the left), and customized the header/footer of the table as well. the only thing that is left is the Index View. • General Drools Question

  For the last few months my company has been using a product from a company called Informatica (previously AgentLogic) called RulePoint. This product has proven itself very easy to use with a well-developed and easy-to-use SDK for customization. The way we use the product for CEP is fairly trivial, we have 2 sources which we monitor for our rule data, the first being a JMS Queue, the second being a Jabber IM account. The product runs on any java-based application server (WebLogic, Tomcat, etc) and runs just about flawlessly. Last week my boss says, "Hey, I've heard that we may be able to do the same thing we are doing with RulePoint with an open-source product called Drools. Check it out and let me know what you think." I've heard of people using Drools for flow-based operations (validation, etc), however, I've never heard of anyone using their CEP product (Fusion) in practice. So, being the diligent worker, I have undertaken this task. I've downloaded all the files (version 5.0) and accompanying documentation and have started to read. I've read through just about all the docs and run most of the examples, but I still don't really see HOW drools works for CEP. While there are examples for using Data (or Facts, I guess) from JMS, I don't see how this thing stays "running", continuously monitoring a queue until the application is actually stopped. RulePoint pretty must just sits and listens, however, Drools seems to not. I could probably write a full-blown command-line application for our needs, however, I was hoping to leverage some of the benefits of using a application server provides. I guess I'm looking for some good tutorials or an example of how someone is using Drools and CEP in production. Thanks in advanced for any information, advice you may be able to provide.

• Scrolling with two fingers with a UIScrollView

  I have an app where my main view accepts both touchesBegan and touchesMoved, and therefore takes in single finger touches, and drags. I want to implement a UIScrollView, and I have it working, but it overrides the drags, and therefore my contentView never receives them. I'd like to implement a UIScrollview, where a two finger drag indicates a scroll, and a one finger drag event gets passed to my content view, so it performs normally. Do I need create my own subclass of UIScrollView? • Why I cannot get correct class of a custom class through isKindOfClass?

  Hi, I've created a custom class AnimalView which is a subclass of UIView containing a UILabel and a UIImageView. @interface AnimalView : UIView { UILabel *nameLabel; UIImageView *picture; } Then I added in several AnimalView onto the ViewController.view. In the touchesBegan:withEvent: method, I wanted to detect if the touched object is an AnimalView or not. • When does MSBuild set the $(ProjectName) property?

  I'm fairly new to MSBuild, and I've done some customization on a Wpf project file that I'm building both in VS2010 and TFS2010. I've customized the output path as follows: <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' == '' ">$(SolutionDir)build\binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> <OutputPath Condition=" '$(TeamBuildOutDir)' != '' ">$(TeamBuildOutDir)binaries\$(ProjectName)\$(Configuration)\$(Platform)</OutputPath> This allows me to build to a centralized binaries directory when building on the desktop, and allows TFS to find the binaries when CI builds are running. However, it seems that in both cases, the $(ProjectDir) property is evaluating to '' at buildtime, which creates strange results. Doing some debugging, it appears as if $(ProjectName) is set by the time BeforeBuild executes, but that my OutputPath property is evaluating it prior to that point. <ProjectNameUsedTooEarly Condition=" '$(ProjectName)' == '' ">true</ProjectNameUsedTooEarly> The preceeding property is in the same property group as my OutputPath property. In the BeforeBuild target, $(ProjectNameUsedTooEarly) evaluates to true, but $(ProjectName) evaluates to the project name as normal by that point. What can I do to ensure that $(ProjectName) has got a value when I use it? edit: I just used Attrice's MSBuild Sidekick to debug through my build file, and in the very first target available for breakpoint (_CheckForInvalidConfigurationAndPlatform) all the properties seem to be set already. ProjectName is already set correctly, but my OutputPath property has already been set using the blank value of ProjectName.

  How could I inject a --stringparam (xsltproc) into the DOCTYPE of a XSL stylesheet? The --stringparam is specified from the command line. I have several books in docbook5 format I want to process with the same customization layer, each book having an unique identifier, here "demo", so I'm running something like xsltproc --stringparam course.name demo ... for each book.   Please bear with me: this isn't a language debate or a flame. It's a real request for opinions. Occasionally, I have to help educate a traditional text coder in how to think in LabVIEW (LV). Often during this process, I get to hear about how LV sucks. Rarely is this insight accompanied by rational observations other than "Language X is just so much better!". While this statement is satisfying to them, it doesn't help me understand what is frustrating them. So, for those of you with LabVIEW and text language experience, what specific things about LV drive you nuts? ------ Summaries ------- Thanks for all the answers! Some of the issues are answered in the comments below, some exist on other sites, and some are just genuine problems with LV. In the spirit of the original question, I'm not going to try to answer all of these here: check LAVA or NI's website, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how many of these things can be overcome. • Node.js/ v8: How to make my own snapshot to accelerate startup

  I have a node.js (v0.6.12) application that starts by evaluating a Javascript file, startup.js. It takes a long time to evaluate startup.js, and I'd like to 'bake it in' to a custom build of Node if possible. The v8 source directory distributed with Node, node/deps/v8/src, contains a SconScript that can almost be used to do this. On line 302, we have LIBRARY_FILES = ''' runtime.js v8natives.js array.js string.js uri.js math.js messages.js apinatives.js date.js regexp.js json.js liveedit-debugger.js mirror-debugger.js debug-debugger.js '''.split() Those javascript files are present in the same directory. Something in the build process apparently evaluates them, takes a snapshot of state, and saves it as a byte string in node/out/Release/obj/release/snapshot.cc (on Mac OS). Some customization of the startup snapshot is possible by altering the SconScript. For example, I can change the definition of the builtin Date.toString by altering date.js. I can even add new global variables by adding startup.js to the list of library files, with contents global.test = 1. However, I can't put just any javascript code in startup.js. If it contains Date.toString = 1;, an error results even though the code is valid at the node repl: Build failed: -> task failed (err #2): {task: libv8.a SConstruct -> libv8.a} make: *** [program] Error 1 And it obviously can't make use of code that depends on libraries Node adds to v8. global.underscore = require('underscore'); causes the same error. I'd ideally like a tool, customSnapshot, where customSnapshot startup.js evaluates startup.js with node and then dumps a snapshot to a file, snapshot.cc, which I can put into the node source directory. I can then build node and tell it not to rebuild the snapshot.

• Renaming TurboGears 2's Repoze Fields with TGAdmin

  I've been working on renaming TurboGears 2's Repoze 'groups' field to 'roles' to free the namespace and db tables for other purposes. Also roles makes much more sense to me then groups because I have a strong Drupal background. I have made (I'm pretty sure at least, I've double checked a few times.) all the changes required as you can see in this diff. This seems to work fine however I've ran into a rather major issue with the TurboGears Admin system. I've tried http://turbogears.org/2.0/docs/main/Extensions/Admin/index.html and it didn't seem to make any difference, however I'm not 100% sure I did it correctly. The problem occurs when I attempt to go to localhost/admin/permissions/. It causes a Internal Server Error and outputs the following error. http://pastebin.com/YWMH3SiU This error does not happen on the Roles/Users pages and the permissions /edit/1 also works. I'm running kubuntu 10.04 with TG 2.1b2. (I'm running the beta mostly for easier mako support which is really important.) Any help would be very appreciated.

• Double Click and Resize on an Ipad

  Thanks to the great post at OranLooney.com I was able to get a java/icefaces web-app to resize nicely on the ipad, however the code provided for double click doesn't seem to work without further customization. • Xcode 5 - remove storyboard and start app with a .xib

  I've tried to follow the instructions on this Question. But I must not be doing something correctly because I am still getting a SIGABRT before I even get into the ViewController methods. Here are the steps: Copied all items on the view in the story board and pasted into the new xib view. Copied all contents of .h and .m view controller files into the new ones for the xib. Changed the Main nib file base name to the new xib name in the info.plist file. Tried to change the owner but I don't know if I'm doing that correctly. Edited the appdelegate didFinishLaunchingWithOptions file as follows: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] ; // Override point for customization after application launch. TestViewController *test = [[TestViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TestViewController" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:test]; self.window.rootViewController = nav; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } I even tried to start with an empty project like one of the last posts suggested and still get a SIGABRT when I try to run. • Non-wiki CMS for an online user guide

  For a large web application I'm building, I need to create an extensive user guide. The first thought was a wiki, but what I've seen lacks the ease of customization I've seen in CMSs, and has a lot of extra features I don't need. The number of users editing the document is small and closed, but it needs to be editable by non-technical users. The number of pages will likely be between 50-100. It also needs to be searchable. It would also be a plus if it had nice readable urls to link to from our web app. Right now, my best guess is WordPress, but that seems a lot more geared towards blogging with just a handful of pages, than having several pages, and possibly no blogs. There isn't a language requirement, although we have the most experience with Java and PHP. We aren't looking to have to do any major coding other than customizing for visuals, so hopefully the language will not be too important. Again, I'm not looking for the best general purpose CMS, just something that would be easiest for a user guide.

  To be clear, I am not asking for a side by side comparision which has already been asked Ad Nauseum here on SO. I am also Not asking if Linq2Sql is dead as I don't care. What I am asking is this.... I am building internal apps only for a non-profit organization. I am the only developer on staff. We ALWAYS use SQL Server as our Database backend. I design and build the Databases as well. I have used L2S successfully a couple of times already. Taking all this into consideration can someone offer me a compelling reason to use EF instead of L2S? I was at Code Camp this weekend and after an hour long demonstration on EF, all of which I could have done in L2S, I asked this same question. The speakers answer was, "L2S is dead..." Very well then! NOT! (see here) I understand EF is what MS WANTS us to use in the future(see here) and that it offers many more customization options. What I can't figure out is if any of that should, or does, matter for me in this environment. One particular issue we have here is that I inherited the Core App which was built on 4 different SQL Data bases. L2S has great difficulty with this but when I asked the aforementioned speaker if EF would help me in this regard he said "No!"

• Run a flash movie in flex application.

  I've a flash movie that I would like to use inside of a flex application, very similar to a preloader. Looking at this tutorial, http://www.flexer.info/2008/02/07/very-first-flex-preloader-customization/, I expected it would be a matter of not extending "Preloader" and extending "Sprite" and using the class i created wherever i needed. Alas, the movie I created, is not being shown. • How to get rid of gap when I add my custom UIViewController to window?

  I'm getting this gap at the bottom of my window after I add the view of a custom UIViewController. The gap goes away as the view is shifted down after I move to another view and then back. • UIImageView subclass with CGRectIntersectsRect - help!

  The title of this question should be pretty self explanatory. I am making an app that involves multiple UIImageViews that serve the same purpose. They are merely different sizes. • Linq to SQL code generator features

  I'm very fond of Linq to SQL and the programming model it encourages. I think that in many cases when you are in control of both the database schema and the code it is not worth the effort to have different relational and object models for the data. Working with Linq to SQL makes it simple to have type safe data access from .NET, using the partial extension methods to implement business rules. Unfortunately I do not like the dbml designer due to the lack of a schema refresh function. So far I have used SqlMetal, but that lacks the customization options of the dbml designer. Because of that I've started working on a tool which regenerates the whole code file like SqlMetal, but has the ability to do the customizations that are available in the dbml designer (and maybe more in the future). The customizations will be described in an xml file which only contains those parts that shouldn't have default values. This should keep the xml file size down as well as the maintenance burden of it. To help me focus on the right features, I would like to know: What would be your favourite feature in a linq to sql code generator?

• Website Live Chat Script - Interface With Windows Live Messenger?

  Hello again fellow StackOverflow users! What I am looking for currently is your opinions on the what the best live chat script would be for my website. I'd be using this on both my local computer repair (which I've not really set up yet) company's site, as well as my other technical support site that is geared more towards showing people how to fix whatever problem they have themselves. It'll be a little bit before I launch it on either site, as I need to find a good design for my local computer repair company's site, as well as redesign TweaksForGeeks.com's layout so that it's more magazine like. (If you have any suggestions on good Wordpress templates for these, that'd also be swell. :) ) Features I'd like for the live chat script to have: (if possible) Real-time posting of messages (or as close to real time as possible) Integration into my Windows Live Messenger account - By this I mean it'd be handy if instead of me having to man a separate open browser window and constantly check it for new messages, it'd be much more convenient if it would instead just allow me to receive and respond to messages via my Windows Live account the same way I'd chat with any other person on my contact list. Sound notification of new messages when the chat isn't the focused window - In the event that using Windows Messenger isn't possible then I'd need it to notify me upon receipt of a new message. Recording of chat transcripts - This is a MUST HAVE Easy customization - I'll likely want to modify how it looks and whatnot, in addition to the fact that I'm going to set it up so that the chat transcripts can be posted to my site easily in order to be useful to my other visitors later on. With all that in mind, what is available out there? I've not really researched this at all yet; aside from doing a cursory search just before I decided to ask my StackOverflow brothers.   I have been intensively studying and use ef4 in my project. I do feel the improvement that it has over version 1. But I found that I have something I cannot get around easily. Here is a list I want it to be better in ef vNext. the model designer should allow multiple view of the same model, so that I don't need cram all my entity into a single view. respect user's manual edit of edmx. Currently, the some database view object simply can not be imported to the model because the designer "smartly" think that the view does not have a primary key, so that I have to manually edit the edmx to correct designer's behavior. But in the next "update from database" task, designer will revert my customization. For now, I simply fallback to manually edit the edmx file at all, or I have to use compare tool to keep the new update, and rollback and put the new update into my old edmx file manually. Designer should be improved to allow default behavior and user's manual control. I want control not to let the designer refresh the change of imported object. support user defined table function. linq is about Composability, stored proc dos not support composability. I wish I could use user defined table function which support this. What are you wishes for EF vNext?

• how do I zoom to normal text size in vs2008?

  I can not find any help on this issue in vs2008 help, Google, or SO. Scenario: I'm looking at a source file in vs2008 SP1; Windows 2003 Server SP2 Standard Edition, 1280x1024. The irrelevant name of this file is index.aspx. What is relevant is that the file has only 65 lines of code. The print is unreadably small--less than 4 point. It uses less than a third of the vs2008 text window vertically and less that a quarter of the vs2008 text window horizontally. It's not just index.aspx; e.g. another file with 142 lines only fills about 3/4 of the vs2008 text window vertically and less that a quarter of the vs2008 text window horizontally. Possible cause: Probably, but not certainly, I found the equivalent of zoom in/zoom out such as one finds in products like Microsoft Word. However, I've explored many vs2008 toolbars and other customization options and unfortunately I can not find out how to get myself out of this mess. Window, Reset Window Layout has no effect on the text size; my tiny text size did not change. QUESTION: how do I zoom vs2008 text size in and out and back to normal size? Thank you.   i try to use the simplify plugin to simplify the generated code. I have a defined type: <xsd:complexType name="typeWithReferencesProperty"> <xsd:choice maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xsd:annotation> <xsd:appinfo> <simplify:as-element-property/> </xsd:appinfo> </xsd:annotation> <xsd:element name="a" type="AttributeValueIntegerType"/> <xsd:element name="b" type="AttributeValueIntegerType"/> </xsd:choice> </xsd:complexType> but it does not work, as it results in the following error: compiler was unable to honor this as-element-property customization. It is attached to a wrong place, or its inconsistent with other bindings. i used exactly the configuration, i also have other jaxb plugins which work, so i am not quite sure, if the plugin is broken or something? has anybody managed to get this running?
