  • MySQL Query still executing after a day..?

    - by Matt Jarvis
Hi - I'm trying to isolate duplicates in a 500MB database and have tried two ways to do it. One creating a new table and grouping: CREATE TABLE test_table as SELECT * FROM items WHERE 1 GROUP BY title; But it's been running for an hour and in MySQL Admin it says the status is Locked. The other way I tried was to delete duplicates with this: DELETE bad_rows.* from items as bad_rows inner join ( select post_title, MIN(id) as min_id from items group by title having count(*) 1 ) as good_rows on good_rows.post_title = bad_rows.post_title; ..and this has been running for 24hours now, Admin telling me it's Sending data... Do you think either or these queries are actually still running? How can I find out if it's hung? (with Apple OS X 10.5.7)

    - by Kevin Ohashi
I have a table: id, datetime, event i also have table dates: date (Y-m-d format) the problem is some days don't have any events, I would like them to show 0 (or null) SELECT DATE_FORMAT(table.timestamp, '%Y-%m-%d') ydm, count(table.fkUID) FROM `table` where table.fkUID=$var group by ydm; is there some way to join or use conditional statements to make the result show: date|count ---------- 2010-05-23| 5 2010-05-24| 0 <--- this line just doesn't exist in my query. 2010-05-26| 3

  • Timespan not accepting day in MVC3

    - by middelpat
I have a MVC3 application in which i want to set a timespan to for example 2 days and 5 hours. when i enter 02:05:00:00 it gives me the following exception: System.OverflowException: SqlDbType.Time overflow. Value '2.05:00:00' is out of range. Must be between 00:00:00.0000000 and 23:59:59.9999999. When i enter 05:00:00 it correctly saves 5 hours into the database. according to MSDN timespan has a property for days. How do i correctly set the days? Model: public class ProductionTimeVM { [Required] public TimeSpan DefaultTime { get; set; } } In my view i just use: @Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.DefaultTime) For my controller: public ActionResult SaveProductionTime(ProductionTimeVM vm) { ProductionTime productionTime = new ProductionTime(); productionTime.Default = vm.DefaultTime; //some more code } Any idea's?

  • Database solution for 200million writes/day, monthly summarization queries

    - by sb
Hello. I'm looking for help deciding on which database system to use. (I've been googling and reading for the past few hours; it now seems worthwhile to ask for help from someone with firsthand knowledge.) I need to log around 200 million rows (or more) per 8 hour workday to a database, then perform weekly/monthly/yearly summary queries on that data. The summary queries would be for collecting data for things like billing statements, eg. "How many transactions of type A did each user run this month?" (could be more complex, but that's the general idea). I can spread the database amongst several machines, as necessary, but I don't think I can take old data offline. I'll definitely need to be able to query a month's worth of data, maybe a year. These queries would be for my own use, and wouldn't need to be generated in real-time for an end-user (they could run overnight, if needed). Does anyone have any suggestions as to which databases would be a good fit? P.S. Cassandra looks like it would have no problem handling the writes, but what about the huge monthly table scans? Is anyone familiar with Cassandra/Hadoop MapReduce performance?

  • Auto update after specific day passed

    - by Crays
Hey guys, i've this theme of the week script, easy, just post like normally, save in database and echo it in a column. But since its theme of the week, i would like it to automatically renew the value to say "none" or "not set" after a week. I know cron jobs could do this but is there another way? [Running in PHP]

  • Field to display Previous 30 Day Total

    - by whytheq
I've got this table: CREATE TABLE #Data1 ( [Market] VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, [Operator] VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, [Date] DATETIME NOT NULL, [Measure] VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, [Amount] NUMERIC(36,10) NOT NULL, --new calculated fields [DailyAvg_30days] NUMERIC(38,6) NULL DEFAULT 0 ) I've populated all the fields apart from DailyAvg_30days. This field needs to show the total for the preceding 30 days e.g. 1. if Date for a particular record is 2nd Dec then it will be the total for the period 3rd Nov - 2nd Dec inclusive. 2. if Date for a particular record is 1st Dec then it will be the total for the period 2nd Nov - 1st Dec inclusive. My attempt to try to find these totals before updating the table is as follows: SELECT a.[Market], a.[Operator], a.[Date], a.[Measure], a.[Amount], [DailyAvg_30days] = SUM(b.[Amount]) FROM #Data1 a INNER JOIN #Data1 b ON a.[Market] = b.[Market] AND a.[Operator] = b.[Operator] AND a.[Measure] = b.[Measure] AND a.[Date] >= b.[Date]-30 AND a.[Date] <= b.[Date] GROUP BY a.[Market], a.[Operator], a.[Date], a.[Measure], a.[Amount] ORDER BY 1,2,4,3 Is this a valid approach or do I need to approach this from a different angle?

  • SQL SERVER – Clustered Index and Primary Key – Contest Win Joes 2 Pros Combo (USD 198) – Day 3 of 5

    - by pinaldave
August 2011 we ran a contest where every day we give away one book for an entire month. The contest had extreme success. Lots of people participated and lots of give away. I have received lots of questions if we are doing something similar this month. Absolutely, instead of running a contest a month long we are doing something more interesting. We are giving away USD 198 worth gift every day for this week. We are giving away Joes 2 Pros 5 Volumes (BOOK) SQL 2008 Development Certification Training Kit every day. One copy in India and One in USA. Total 2 of the giveaway (worth USD 198). All the gifts are sponsored from the Koenig Training Solution and Joes 2 Pros. The books are available here Amazon | Flipkart | Indiaplaza How to Win: Read the Question Read the Hints Answer the Quiz in Contact Form in following format Question Answer Name of the country (The contest is open for USA and India residents only) 2 Winners will be randomly selected announced on August 20th. Question of the Day: Which of the following datatype is usually NOT the best choice for Primary Key and Clustered Index? a) INT b) BIGINT c) GUID d) SMALLINT Query Hints: BIG HINT POST The clustered index is the placement order of a table’s records in memory pages. When you insert new records, then each record will be inserted into the memory page in the order it belongs. In the figure below we see another new record (Major Disarray) being inserted, in sequence, between Jonny and Rick. Since there is no room in this memory page, some records will need to shift around. The page split occurs when Irenes’ record moves to the second page. Page splits are considered very bad for performance, and there are a number of techniques to reduce, or even eliminate, the risk of page splits. You can create a clustered index on the table on any field you choose. Sometime SQL will create a clustered index for you. Often times the field having the Primary Key makes a great candidate for the clustered index. Additional Hints: I have previously discussed various concepts from SQL Server Joes 2 Pros Volume 3. SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – All about SQL Statistics SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – Introduction to Page Split SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – The Clustered Index – Simple Understanding SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – Geography Data Type – Calculating Distance Between Two Points on the Earth SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – Sparse Data and Space Used by Sparse Data SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – System and Time Data Types SQL Joes 2 Pros Development Series – Data Row Space Usage and NULL Storage Next Step: Answer the Quiz in Contact Form in following format Question Answer Name of the country (The contest is open for USA and India) Bonus Winner Leave a comment with your favorite article from the “additional hints” section and you may be eligible for surprise gift. There is no country restriction for this Bonus Contest. Do mention why you liked it any particular blog post and I will announce the winner of the same along with the main contest. • What exercises counter the back pain of sitting at a computer for 15 hours a day? [on hold]

    - by Sam
I work up to 15 hours a day (not everyday :)) programming. When I do this I get a very sore lower back. I don't want to spend $1000 on a special chair like Joel Spolsky says. I'm sure I'm not alone here. Has anybody encountered this and found an exercise/other method to combat it? Maybe somebody with more physical education than me about opposing muscle groups or something. PS (not working fifteen hours a day isn't an answer, it's how I work best) and it's not off topic as programming is about more than code - it's a verb.

  • How should I format an HTTPService result in Flex so that it is accessible for a pie chart?

    - by Eric Reynolds
    I feel like this should be simple, however everywhere I look online someone does something different. I am doing a small charting application to track download statistics, and want to put the data into a pie chart. I am new to Flex, so if my code is horrible I apologize. <s:HTTPService id="service" url="admin/stats/totalstats.php" fault="service_faultHandler(event)" result="service_resultHandler(event)" /> What is the best resultFormat for this purpose, and if I am assigning the returned value to an ActionScript variable, should it be an ArrayList? ArrayCollection? Heres a sample of the XML being returned from the HTTPService <DownloadStats> <year count="24522" year="2008"> <month count="20" month="5" year="2008" full="May 2008"> <day count="2" month="5" day="20" year="2008"/> <day count="1" month="5" day="21" year="2008"/> <day count="9" month="5" day="22" year="2008"/> <day count="1" month="5" day="23" year="2008"/> <day count="1" month="5" day="29" year="2008"/> <day count="1" month="5" day="30" year="2008"/> <day count="5" month="5" day="31" year="2008"/> </month> ... </year> <DownloadStats> Any help is appreciated, Thanks, Eric R. EDIT: I decided that it would be helpful to see how I am transferring the data to the chart to make sure I am not doing something wrong there either. <mx:PieChart id="pieChart"> <mx:PieSeries nameField="year" field="count" labelPosition="callout" displayName="Total" dataProvider="{graphData}"/> </mx:PieChart>

  • Consecutive absences in MySQL

    - by pepersview
Hi, I have 2 tables in my db: students and absences. In students: id_student, s_name; and in absences: id_student, date, day(the day of the week as number-it's not so important); I would like to get the students that were absent for more than 2 days consecutive and the dates. At the moment I have the next query: /*To control when the days are in the same week*/ SELECT id_student, date, dayname(date),date_add(date, INTERVAL 1 DAY) AS a, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 1 DAY)) AS an, date_add(date, INTERVAL 2 DAY) AS b, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 2 DAY)) AS bn FROM absences AS a WHERE id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date, INTERVAL 1 DAY) ) AND id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date,INTERVAL 2 DAY) ) UNION /*To control when the days jump to the next week*/ SELECT id_student, date, dayname(date),date_add(date, INTERVAL 3 DAY) AS a, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 3 DAY)) AS an, date_add(date, INTERVAL 4 DAY) AS b, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 4 DAY)) AS bn FROM absences AS a WHERE id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date, INTERVAL 3 DAY) ) AND id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date,INTERVAL 4 DAY) ) /* To avoid the case (Monday-Thursday-Friday) to be consider as consecutive days*/ AND WEEKDAY(date) !=0 Thanks
