• Best way to make a WYSIWYG in Flex?

- by hngry4powr
Hello, I have a client that wants a WYSIWYG form that behaves like MS word. It will have some section labels in it, with users expected to enter notes for each section, and it needs a place holder for a chart. The trick is that the user needs to know where page breaks are going to fall when printed. The customer agrees to fixed size paper with fixed sized margins. How should I approach this challenge? Thank you very much for your suggestions. Here is an example: Section 1: Explain Idea Here { As user types in this section, the space between this section and the next section expands, but I as the user can't delete the lines that say Section 1 or 2, or the place holder for the chart. However if I type a lot of text, I need to display where the page breaks are with a dashed line or something, so the user can make sure the content enters appears on the desired page. If I type a lot here for example, section 2 will get pushed onto the next page} Section 2: State why this is a Good Idea [ PLACE HOLDER FOR CHART . . . ] Section 3: Additional Remarks:

• Flex NetConnection error: Property onDirtyList not found on flash.net.NetConnection

- by David Wolever
I'm having some trouble with NetConnection. The following code makes a connection without issue… var n:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); n.objectEncoding = ObjectEncoding.AMF0; n.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, function(...args):void { trace("HERE"); }); n.connect("rtmp://...host...", ...args); But as soon as the NET_STATUS event handler finishes (ie, hitting "step into" with the debugger), I get this error: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property onDirtyList not found on flash.net.NetConnection and there is no default value. Error #2044: Unhandled AsyncErrorEvent:. text=Error #2095: flash.net.NetConnection was unable to invoke callback onDirtyList. error=ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property onDirtyList not found on flash.net.NetConnection and there is no default value. at Test/___Test_Application1_creationComplete()[/Users/wolever/Workspace/Test/src/Test.mxml:13] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at mx.core::UIComponent/dispatchEvent()[C:\autobuild\3.5.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:9440] at mx.core::UIComponent/set initialized()[C:\autobuild\3.5.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:1168] at mx.managers::LayoutManager/doPhasedInstantiation()[C:\autobuild\3.5.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\managers\LayoutManager.as:718] at Function/http://adobe.com/AS3/2006/builtin::apply() at mx.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher2()[C:\autobuild\3.5.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:8744] at mx.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher()[C:\autobuild\3.5.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:8684] Which is kind of scary because onDirtyList only yields two hits on Google. So... Any suggestions?

• Styling buttons of Flex TabNavigator

- by donpal
I created a TabNavigator with a bunch of NavigatorContent inside it, and want to skin just the buttons of the tabs themselves. So I added a skinClass, but looks like in the documentation, there's no skin part to target the button specifically. Do I have to style the mx:TabNavigator itself to accomplish this? I was hoping not since I don't know how to style mx components and am more comfortable with styling spark. Any other alternatives that I didn't think about?

• Is it possible to run a Java program inside a Flex application?

- by Joshua
I would like to be able to incorporate a simple game, written in Java as a component within a Flex Application. Am I crazy? Flex can display HTML, and SWF, it can also call JavaScript - but can I incorporate an applet somehow? I do NOT mean kludging it in as a sister component within a browser, but actually within the flex application itself, so that it could also run under Adobe Air, for instance.

• Is there a way to set the minHeight of the scroll bar thumb in Flex 3

- by Mad Oxyn
In my project we needed to make the scollbars look like Windows scrollbars. Therefore I have a thumbIcon on the thumb of a vertical scrollbar, but if I get too many items in the combobox, the scrollbar gets fiddly. This is because the margin between the thumbIcon and the border of the thumbSkin is too small. Is there a way to set the minimum height of the thumbSkin so that I can ensure there is always a margin there and it always looks good, even if there are too many items? Image above, see the thumb? By the thumbIcon I mean the 3 horizontal lines. The top and bottom margin between this icon and the border of the thumb itself is too small. This is the normal scroll bar, the thumbIcon and the borders of the thumb have enough margin, which make the scroll bar look a lot better.

• Flex 4.6 Mobile - Scrolling to the last added item in a dataGrid with variableRowHeight

- by user1305331
I'm trying to set the scroll vertical position of a spark dataGrid to show the items as I add them to the grid. I know you can set the scroll position like this: dataGrid.scroller.viewport.verticalScrollPosition = itemPosition*rowHeight; The problem is that the dataGrid have variableRowHeight, as each row word wraps their name labels, and I don't know how to get each row height. I though of getting the itemRenderer associated with every item as I add it to the grid, and keep the total row height value in a variable, but don't know how to achieve that. Is there any way to set the scroll position of a dataGrid with variableRowHeight to show the last added item?

• Flex LineChart with Multiple Data Providers

- by Jeremy Mitchell
Can I create a LineChart with multiple data providers? Since LineSeries has a dataprovider property, I'm assuming the answer is Yes. I would expect something like this to work: <LineChart> <series> <LineSeries dataprovider="{dp1}"/> <LineSeries dataprovider="{dp2}"/> <LineSeries dataprovider="{dp3}"/> </series> </LineChart> But, the LineChart only appears to work for me when the dataprovider is assigned to the LineChart. Thanks.

• Order of calls to set functions when invoking a flex component

- by Jason
I have a component called a TableDataViewer that contains the following pieces of data and their associated set functions: [Bindable] private var _dataSetLoader:DataSetLoader; public function get dataSetLoader():DataSetLoader {return _dataSetLoader;} public function set dataSetLoader(dataSetLoader:DataSetLoader):void { trace("setting dSL"); _dataSetLoader = dataSetLoader; } [Bindable] private var _table:Table = null; public function set table(table:Table):void { trace("setting table"); _table = table; _dataSetLoader.load(_table.definition.id, "viewData", _table.definition.id); } This component is nested in another component as follows: <ve:TableDataViewer width="100%" height="100%" paddingTop="10" dataSetLoader="{_openTable.dataSetLoader}" table="{_openTable.table}"/> Looking at the trace in the logs, the call to set table is coming before the call to set dataSetLoader. Which is a real shame because set table() needs dataSetLoader to already be set in order to call its load() function. So my question is, is there a way to enforce an order on the calls to the set functions when declaring a component?

• Flex Catch Keydown

- by Antilogic
I want to handle the keydown event globally in my application and as such have added the event handler to the top most DisplayObject in the display list. However, the event doesn't seem to fire unless the cursor focus is on a Textbox or Datagrid or the like. How can I have key presses handled globaly by the application?

• Flex, Popups: rollout event, not always working

- by Patrick
hi, I'm using PopupManager to create popups.. I noticed that sometimes the popups are not removed when on mouseOut event, for some reasons. I tried to roll over/out fast but the popups perfectly work. So I'm not able to say why sometimes they remain visible instead of disappear. Thanks

• Flex URLRequest and .NET authorization

- by user252160
can I make role based authorization when sending requests to an ASP.NET MVC backend system. I am calling action methods and expecting JSON results, however, some action methods are decorated with the [Authorize] attribute, others require some role privileges to be present. I certainly hope that passing authorization data with every request is possible

• Flex 4: Getter getting before setter sets

- by Steve
I've created an AS class to use as a data model, shown here: package { import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import mx.rpc.http.HTTPService; public class Model { private var xmlService:HTTPService; private var _xml:XML; private var xmlChanged:Boolean = false; public function Model() { } public function loadXML(url:String):void { xmlService = new HTTPService(); if (!url) xmlService.url = "DATAPOINTS.xml"; else xmlService.url = url; xmlService.resultFormat = "e4x"; xmlService.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, setXML); xmlService.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, faultXML); xmlService.send(); } private function setXML(event:ResultEvent):void { xmlChanged = true; this._xml = event.result as XML; } private function faultXML(event:FaultEvent):void { Alert.show("RAF data could not be loaded."); } public function get xml():XML { return _xml; } } } And in my main application, I'm initiating the app and calling the loadXML function to get the XML: <fx:Script> import mx.containers.Form; import mx.containers.FormItem; import mx.containers.VBox; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.controls.Button; import mx.controls.Label; import mx.controls.Text; import mx.controls.TextInput; import spark.components.NavigatorContent; private function init():void { var model:Model = new Model(); model.loadXML(null); var xml:XML = model.xml; } </fx:Script> The trouble I'm having is that the getter function is running before loadXML has finished, so the XML varible in my main app comes up undefined in stack traces. How do I put a condition in here somewhere that tells the getter to wait until the loadXML() function has finished before running?

• Flex chart ItemRollOver behavior

- by DannyC
Hi Guys, I'm trying to prevent a default chart item roll over highlight in a Spark column chart. If you look at any of the chart examples on this page , when you roll over any of the chart series items, they turn a darkened shade of their original colour. This is what I want to prevent. So far I have had no luck with using the itemRollOverColor property, as this only allows you to set it to one specific colour for the whole chart (my app has several different coloured series on the chart at once). Also, trying to leverage the itemRollOver event (with preventDefault() etc) hasn't worked either. Does anyone have any idea what I am missing here? Thanks for reading guys

• Flex ChangeWatcher bind to a negative condition

- by bedwyr
I have a bindable getter in a component which informs me when a [hidden] timer is running. I also have a context menu which, if this timer is running, should disable one of the menu items. Is it possible to create a ChangeWatcher which watches for the negative condition of a bindable property/getter and changes the enabled property of the menu item? Here are the basic methods I'm trying to bind together: Class A: [Bindable] public function get isPlaying():Boolean { return (_timer != null) ? _timer.running : false; } Class B: private var _playingWatcher:ChangeWatcher; public function createContextMenu():void { //...blah blah, creating context menu var newItem:ContextMenuItem = new ContextMenuItem(); _playingWatcher = BindingUtils.bindProperty(newItem, "enabled", _classA, "isPlaying"); } In the code above, I have the inverse case: when isPlaying() is true, the menu item is enabled; I want it to only be enabled when the condition is false. I could create a second getter (there are other bindings which rely on the current getter) to return the inverse condition, but that sounds ugly to me: [Bindable] public function get isNotPlaying():Boolean { return !isPlaying; } Is this possible, or is there another approach I'm completely missing?

• flex/actionscript assignment failing?

- by user346713
I'm seeing something weird in my actionscript code I have two classes foo and bar, bar extends foo. In a model class I have a foo member variable, I assign an bar object to the foo variable. But after the assignment the foo variable is null. [Bindable] public var f:foo; public function someFunc(arr:ArrayCollection):void { if(arr.length > 0) { var tempBar:bar = arr.getItemAt(0) as bar; if(tempBar != null) { tempBar.someProp++; f = tempBar; // f is now null } } } Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

• Flex 3 Regular Expression Problem

- by Tommy
I've written a url validator for a project I am working on. For my requirements it works great, except when the last part for the url goes longer than 22 characters it breaks. My expression: /((https?):\/\/)([^\s.]+.)+([^\s.]+)(:\d+\/\S+)/i It expects input that looks like "http(s)://hostname:port/location". When I give it the input: https://demo10:443/111112222233333444445 it works, but if I pass the input https://demo10:443/1111122222333334444455 it breaks. You can test it out easily at http://ryanswanson.com/regexp/#start. Oddly, I can't reproduce the problem with just the relevant (I would think) part /(:\d+\/\S+)/i. I can have as many characters after the required / and it works great. Any ideas or known bugs?

• Programmatically Detecting Valid Style Properties In Flex

- by Joshua
If I want to know if an object has a particular property I can code this: if (SomeObject.hasOwnProperty('xyz')) { // some code } But some styles masquerade as properties at design time such as Button.color... How can I know what style properties are valid at runtime? ie: What is the equivalent of hasOwnProperty for getStyle/setStyle? In other words how can I know if an object HAS A particular style variable... When I write: MyButton.setStyle('qsfgaeWT','-33'); It won't accomplish anything, but it also doesn't error. How can I know programmatically that 'qsfgaeWT' is NOT a valid style of 'Button'??

• SPRING: How do you programmatically instantiate classes based on information passed from Flex UI

- by babyangel86
Imagine the UI passes back an XMl node as such: <properties> <type> Source </type>
<delay> <type> Deterministic </type> <parameters> 4 </parameters> <delay> <batch> <type> Erlang </type> <parameters> 4 6 </parameters> <batch> And behind the scene what it is asking that you instantiate a class as such: new Source("blooper", new Exp(4), new Erlang(4,6); The problem lies in the fact that you don't know what class you will need to processing, and you will be sent a list of these class definitions with instructions on how they can be linked to each other. I've heard that using a BeanFactoryPostProcessor might be helpful, or a property editor/convertor. However I am at a loss as to how best to use them to solve my problem. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
