    Hi, Long story: My MacBook's hard drive failed one year ago, just a month after its warranty ended or: a year and a month after I bought it. After about ten phone calls to Apple's service, they agreed to extend the warranty for another year, so that I got it replaced free of charge. In the mean time, I got to know that many MacBook users that experience/report hard drive failures. Every reported crash was preceded by a slowdown of system performance, an increased occurrence of the spinning beach ball wait courser, and frequent crashes of applications that used to run very robust until then. It happened (as far as I know) with MacBooks from 2006/2007. All these MacBooks additionally suffer from a recurring wearing down of their "top case". Many heavy users had to replace their HDDs three time since 2006/2007 resulting in an head crash, making it impossible to recover data (diagnosis of recovery specialists) in most but not all cases HDD was Seagate (doesn't necessarily have to be the cause, if majority of the MacBook charge contained Seagate drives) And right now (one year after my first disk crash), these symptoms are cumulating on my system, again ... Short version: prevalent hard drive failure on MacBook charge from 2006/2007 (i.e. 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Due) I am looking for any (preferable open source) tool for checking the hard drive condition, especially to detect the known "MacBook problem". So, that I can replace the disk on time. If any Mac user found a solution to prevent the repeated failure of heir hard drive, I would be very glad to get to known it. I really enjoy my old MacBook, but I hate to get interrupted every year by an HDD crash. BTW, the issue is already in discussion for a long time, but there seems to be no solution, so far.   • Can an installation of SSRS be used for other reports if the SCOM Reporting Role is installed?

    I'm currently in the process of planing a SCOM 2007 R2 deployment and would like to deploy the OperationsManagerDW and Reporting Server to a shared SQL 2008 cluster which is used for reporting across multiple solutions. However in the in the deployment guide for SCOM 2007 R2 it says: Due to changes that the Operations Manager 2007 Reporting component makes to SQL Server Reporting Services security, no other applications that make use of SQL Server Reporting Services can be installed on this server. Which concerns me that it may interfere with existing or future (non SCOM) reports in some way even if deployed as a separate SSRS instance. Later in the same guide it states: Installing Operations Manager 2007 Reporting Services integrates the security of the instance of SQL Reporting Services with the Operations Manager role-based security. Do not install any other Reporting Services applications in this same instance of SQL Server. Does this mean that I can install a new SSRS instance and use this on the shared cluster for SCOM reporting or that I'd also need to create a whole new SQL Server instance as well as SSRS instance or I'd need a whole separate server for SCOM OperationsManagerDW and Reporitng Server?

    I am running Windows 7, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 pro) and I'm connecting to our Exchange Server 2007 which is part of Small Business Server 2008. Outlook 2007 on one client keeps asking for the password to the remote access URL. If I simply click cancel it's OK for a few minutes. Entering the password and clicking the save PW box does no good. Sometimes clicking cancel results in another dilog box asking the same thing and I may have to click cancel several times to get it to go away for a while. Occasionally Outlook may actually go into a mode where it says it needs the password typed so I click the link which brings the dialog back but simply clicking cancel will make Outlook connect again. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

  • Paste textbox from Powerpoint to Word as an editable control

    I have a Powerpoint 2007 file that contains a number of textboxes and shapes with text on them. I can edit, resize, change the text, etc. in these boxes in Powerpoint. However, if I select an item, copy it, and paste it into a Word 2007 document, I can't edit it. I can resize the entire thing, but it acts more like an image than a text box. I've tried the paste special options and keep source formatting options, but still can't edit it. Is there a way to be able to paste the editable content from Powerpoint and still have it editable in Word? Update I found this question that appears to get to the root of the problem: The MS Office Art graphics engine (aka Escher 2) is new to MS Office 2007 and while fully implemented in Excel and Powerpoint is only partially implemented in Word 2007 for backwards compatibility with the MS Office Drawing/Graphics engine (aka Escher) still available in Word It should work in earlier versions of Word and Word 2010, but not Word 2007. This is quite frustrating as I have to edit the slide in Powerpoint before copying it into Word. While doable, it adds another step, but the problem is that everyone who wants to update the Word document will have to do the same thing, adding complexity and steps for everyone. If I embed the Powerpoint slide in the document, I can edit the controls, but they don't scale the same way and takes a lot of work.

    I'm running Office 2007 on Windows 7. When I ran the Microsoft Office 2010 beta installation, it asked if I wanted to upgrade the existing 2007 installation or install along side 2007. I later uninstalled 2010 and rebooted. When I re-ran the Office 2010 setup program, it no longer asked if I wanted to upgrade or install side by side. It just did a side by side install by default. How can I get it to re-prompt me, as I'd now like to upgrade my 2007 install.

  • Open excel 2007 excel files and save as 97-2003 formats in VBA

    I have a weird situation where I have a set of excel files, all having the extension .xls., in a directory where I can open all of them just fine in Excel 2007. The odd thing is that I cannot open them in Excel 2003, on the same machine, without opening the file first in 2007 and going and saving the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook". Before I save the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook" from Excel 2007, when I open the excel files in 2003 I get the error that the file is not in a recognizable format. So my question is: if I already have the excel file opened in 2007 and I already have the file name of the open file stored in a variable, programatically how can I mimic the action of going up to the "office button" in the upper right and selecting, "save as" and then selecting "Excel 97-2003 Workbook"? I've tried something like the below but it does not save the file at all: ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs TempFilePath & TempFileName & ".xls", FileFormat:=56 Thanks for any help or guidance!

    Hello, I just installed MOSS 2007 and configure it on a machine. The machine is not in a domain. When I try to create a new document in my document library (Server is on a remote location and my laptop is not a part of the domain), MS Word 2007 opens, asks me for login credentials 3 times and then disappears leaving me with a new blank word document. Is there any way to enable remote access of MOSS 2007 documents? Thanks :)

    I had the question today of whether SharePoint 2010 supports workflow on multiple items, since Groove's workflow apparently supported multiple items and that model disappeared when Groove Workspaces were amalgamated into SharePoint Sites and SharePoint Workspace (the client utility). It's a great question, the short answer is that yes, it's possible.     To All Experts here, I'd like to perform a MOSS server content migration from the existing single instance server (SQL Server 2008, Windows Server 2008, SharePoint 2007 SP1) all in one and by maintaining the server name only, here's what I had in my migration plan document outline: I have created the new Windows Server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 SP1 and MOSS 2007 SP2 after that: Backup MOSS_ContentDB from SQL Server 2008 SSMS (does this enough to cover all top level sites and its content in the library and doc. repository ?) Backup all top level sites from CA site using the CA Sites backup and restore tools. turn off the old MOSSDEV01 (current server) rename the existing server (TempServ01) into MOSSDEV01 (so that the user bookmark and other link inside MOSS site still working) perform restore of the DB restore the site collection and its content from the backup is that the correct way to do it ? I haven't execute the server configuration wizard to create the same port number of the SSP, CA and the SQL Server DB yet. Any idea and suggestion would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

  • Installing Sharepoint 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2

    we are using in our lab a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 which is running as Hyper-V instance. Today we wanted to install a clean installation of Sharepoint 2007 with SP1 on this machine and we explorer an error that we are not able to install it. The setup is comes up with an error which is described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962935 but this is not our szenario.   • Exchange 2007 backup / restore

    To explain my situation I have a exchange 2007 server and I have recently upgraded to SP2 so that I can use windows server backup to take an "exchange aware" backup of the server. Is there an easy way of restoring this data onto a second server to which I have pre-installed server 2008 / exchange 2007 without upsetting my current exchange server set-up. Also is there a better way to do this, such as running one as a fall over should the primary exchange server develop a fault. I am still new to all this so please excuse any stupidity in my questions. Thanks in advance for any help and assistance

    In this office, most of us are using Outlook 2007, while a few of us uses Outlook 2010. For Outlook 2007, we are able to view other people's free busy information after hacking the registry of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar and enter a new DWORD value data called 'UseLegacyFB' and set the value as 1. Once we do that, we are able to view people's free/busy information. I don't know what to do with the Outlook 2010, since hacking the registry and updating windows did not work. Help? :(

  • Word 2007 has highjacked my RTF association to Jarte Pro

    64-bit Vista I have both Word 2007 and Jarte Pro. I have used Default Programs Set Associations in Vista to associate RTF with Jarte Pro. However, when clicking on an RTF file in Explorer, it opens in Word 2007. Is there any way to correct this, other than to uninstall Word? :) =============================================================================== After much back and forth with Jarte's developer, he determined that: "The error you are encountering appears to be due to a problem Jarte is having communicating with your printer. However, I don't know why this would only be happening when you start Jarte by clicking on a file. I will have to investigate this further. Meanwhile, try downloading and installing the latest printer driver for your printer and see if that helps." I did have the latest driver. He will correct the problem with the next version of Jarte (a terrific program, BTW).

  • PowerPoint 2007 animated slides are only partially converted to PDF

    I have recently encountered a problem with PowerPoint 2007. When I use "Save as PDF/XPS" to create a PDF version of my presentation, some slides are only partially included in the resulting PDF file. For example, this: is reduced to this: So far, I have only encountered this with slides that contain animation elements, but which part of the elements remain in the PDF version appears not to have anything to do with the order in which the animated elements appear, so that might just be a coincidence. When viewing the affected slides in Acrobat Reader, it complains about this file containing invalid elements, and that I should complain to whoever generated the PDF file... Perhaps it has something to do with the Office 2007 Service Pack 3, because these problems started only after it had been installed. Has anyone noticed something similar? Is there a workaround?

    Outlook 2007, starts at boot, minimized: suddenly, as of 2 weeks ago, when I click on the taskbar icon (Outlook already started but minimized) what opens on screen is a tiny "window" the size of the close-minimize-restore buttons. I then have to move it down the screen, and drag the borders to bring it to full size, or, sometimes, clicking on the restore button maximizes the tiny window: then, for days, it starts either the same way or in some other small size, not the same as I left it. I would appreciate suggestions on how to repair this particular example of Outlook not remembering its setting? win7, 64 bit. outlook 2007 32 bit

  • Can I read an Outlook (2003/2007) PST file in C#?

    Is it possible to read a .PST file using C#? I would like to do this as a standalone application, not as an Outlook addin (if that is possible). If have seen other SO questions similar to this mention MailNavigator but I am looking to do this programmatically in C#. I have looked at the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook namespace but that appears to be just for Outlook addins. LibPST appears to be able to read PST files, but this is in C (sorry Joel, I didn't learn C before graduating). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for the responses!
