• HP G61 Laptop wont boot- display stays off, caps and num lock indicators blink repeatedly

  I had my HP G61 laptop running in sleep for a while. When I came back to it about a half-hour later, it was no longer in sleep mode - the power light and the Wi-Fi indicator light were on (I keep Wi-Fi off becuase I use a wired connection) - but nothing was showing on screen. In fact, the display wasn't even turned on. So I let it sit for about 10 minutes but nothing happened. I did a force shut down and rebooted. Instead of a normal boot, the display didnt turn on, the Wi-Fi indicator was off, and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights just blinked repeatedly. On the external keyboard i use, none of the light indicators were blinking or even on. I tried force shut-down again 10 times, then unplugged all connections except for the power cable (my laptop battery dosent hold a charge for more than 2 minutes, so I always must have a wall connection) and tried to boot again but still nothing happened. I unplugged the battery and even then nothing happened. I also tried booting with the disk drive open, and then with it closed again. On the time it was closed, I was able to successfully boot into Windows, but recieved a "Windows did not shut-down sucessfully" notice. Does anybody know why this may have happened? My PC's specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit 4GB of physical RAM, 8GB of vRAM (on a flash drive) AMD Vision x64 processor (don't know any other specs about it) ATI Radeon graphics card, 392 MB DVD-R/W lightscribe drive 2 External hard-disks (first one is 1.5TB, second one is 1TB) custom boot-screen and boot-annimation Standard BIOS apps running before sleep: firefox 10.4 itunes 10.6 adobe photoshop extended CS5.1 rockstar games social club (running in background) microsoft powerpoint 2010 professional edition google chrome I was NOT running Aero or any fancy themes - I was using the normal windows classic theme. I have a desktop icon manager application called Stardock Fences that was also running (it runs as a service/process).

• How do I install mod_dav_svn module on an Apache / MAMP server?

  How do I install additional modules into my server configuration? Currently all of the other modules are installed in /Applications/MAMP/Library/modules...and I see that they are mod_*.so source files, but I cannot seem to get mine to end up here... :? I am trying to set up an SVN repository and use my Apache (MAMP) server to serve the repository. I am using the subversion installation that came (pre-installed?) on Mac OS X 10.5. The repository is working, but I cannot access it remotely through my MAMP server using a client program (Dreamweaver CS5). When I try, I get an error from Dreamweaver, saying: Cannot connect to host xxx: Connection refused. This, I believe, is because I have not properly configured my Apache server to serve the svn repository. So, I added the following lines to my httpd.conf file: <Location /subversion> DAV svn SVNPath /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/svn/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repository" AuthUserFile /applications/mamp/htdocs/.htpasswd Require ServerAdmin </Location> Restarted the server with the command $ /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/apachectl -k restart I used this path because otherwise the default apachectl path is set to /usr/sbin/apachectl, which is the location of the pre-installed command on Mac OS X, since the OS comes packaged with a built-in Apache server. And I get the error: Syntax error on line 1153 of /Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf: Unknown DAV provider: svn I checked the upper portion of httpd.conf and see that dav_module (mod_dav.so) is loaded and is in fact in my the modules directory of my server. However, mod_dav_svn is not installed in that directory nor is it in the LoadModule portion of httpd.conf. So I need to install it, right? I have tried installing modules into my MAMP server before but was never successful...because I don't know how to do it. Can someone please walk me through how to install that module?   I would like to know if it is possible to fix elements at their absolute position within custom elements in InDesign CS5? I created a kind of speech bubble and I would like to place a stripline within this bubble to separate two content areas. Just a little scheme to show the desired layout as Pseudo-Markup :D <speech-bubble> <textbox>HEADER SECTION</textbox> <stripline> <textbox>Some other text</textbox> </speech-bubble> I created something like this but with two separate elements which aren't connected. So I have to select both of them in order to move the whole bubble. Then I tried to connect them using Object->Paths->Create linked path but then the stripline moves and the HEADER SECTION moves too. All in all I would like to have a speech bubble which can be resized in order to hold more text but it shouldn't make the HEADER_SECTION larger or move the stripline.   I have installed Adobe CS6 on Windows 8 and get the error "0xc000007b" every time I open open Adobe After Effects. All other Adobe software, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, work perfectly. I have looked online extensively but have not found any solutions. What can I try/do to resolve this error? OS: Windows 8 (64 bit) - CPU: Intel Core i3-3110M 2,40GHz - RAM: 6GB DD3 - FX: AMD Radeon HD 7670M When I open Adobe After Effects CS6 with Dependency Walker, this message appears : "Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module. What can I do to resolve this error?

• Are Mac Minis suitable for a proper desktop computer?

  I've read about a lot of people using their Mac Minis as a file server, or media centre or something similar. Does the mini function alright as a standard desktop PC? The Mac will be used primarily for web development, that is, it will need to run Coda, Photoshop, possible Firefox and Safari at the same time. So it will need suitable performance. Or am I better off getting an iMac? I though the mini looked like a good option because: cheaper I already have a keyboard, mouse and 24" monitor I could use a KVM between the mini and PC Also, does the mini support multiple monitors?   Hello, Do you know such an extension that provides easy document scanning in Firefox? We are building a web site and we want visitors to be able to upload scanned documents to it. The normal procedure for that is: Scan the document via Gimp, Photoshop or some other scanning software. Save the file. Navigate to the upload web page. Find some sort of HTML input type file on that page. Browse and find the saved file. Submit the form. I want an extension or plugin that automatize that process and do everything with 1 click - scan the document with some default settings (for example "grayscale, 300 dpi") creates temporary file, fills the page input field and deletes the temporary file after upload. I tried lots of googling but the term scan in combination with everything web-related gives zillions of virus, malware and port scanners...

• Adobe Master Collection CS3 wont run on my Windows 7 64bit

  I have a brand new HP p6230y. My first step after booting it up was to install Master Collection. It installs fine, but when I go to run each of the applications, and they all behave differently. I have re-installed twice already. Photoshop opens, but freezes. Acrobat tells me that I need to reinstall. Nothing else even opens (no freezing, no process in taskman). Any Ideas?   I have had some success with usb docks like this Universal Docking Station by Kensington to connect one external display to my laptop while using the onboard vga port for another display. But that's only two displays and I'm shooting for three. All I do is develop software and work in Photoshop... no games. For the sake of discussion, we can assume a Thinkpad or equivalent laptop with Windows 7 (I'm hoping for a platform-agnostic solution). How could I do this?

• Software for mosaicing video frames into a panorama

  I have some video footage I've shot using a dolly with the camera rotated 90 degrees to the right. Which gives me a sideways tracking shot of a background. Does there exist some kind of software I can create a single image from the video footage? The result I want is one single image of the entire shot. I guess I could export every Nth frame and use Photoshop (or any other type of panorama software) to merge the images together, but this would make it easier. Thanks.

• How to change image to this color?

  I have this image And I need to change it to the color #D21108 (type of RED). Of course, I do not want to paint it to this color, but to change the color to #D21108 and its shades (like I do in Photoshop via Brush Colour Replacement). I have all info about this color, values of RGB, CMYK, Lab and HSV if you need them. Now, I guess I can easily change it via GIMP's menu "Colors". I tried options Color Balance, Hue-Saturation, Colorize, but I did not find a way to enter the starting color I need. I was closest to my aim via Hue-Saturation, but I could not get this red value, no matter what I tried. As I am not a graphics expert, please tell me how to accomplish this task. PS. What's the meaning of Lab and HSV in the color scheme? I know the meaning of RGB and CMYK.

  Is there much advantage in getting the higher end Macbook Pro compared to the mid-range one? The differences between the two are: 2.66 GHz vs. 2.8 GHz 256 MB graphics memory vs. 512 MB 3 MB L2 cache vs. 6 MB 320 GB hard drive vs. 500 GB $2000 vs. $2300 I've looked around, but I can't find any direct comparisons for the two machines. I'd be using the machine for development. I generally use a computer for 3 years. I don't really play games, but do use Photoshop regularly. I've heard that once Snow Leopard arrives, the graphics chip will be used to boost the main processor, so I was wondering if getting the one with more graphics memory would be an advantage?

• Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

  We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce

• Windows Photo Viewer needs more ram?

  Ok, so i went to open a picture with the Windows Photo Viewer (Default) application and it told me this: Windows Photo Viewer can't display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close some programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space (if it's almost full), and then try again. So looking at my 98% ram usage (thankyou VisualStudio x8 + SQL Server) I rebooted my computer. Now this is my load: And this is my hard-disk loadout: So now I go to load up that image again. SAME MESSAGE, what the heck? So apparantly 6gb isn't enough ram to open a 29k image that loads perfectly fine in MSPaint, Paint.NET, Photoshop It's a .png and it's not corrupt. So my question is: what gives?

• Fonts in Google Chrome messed up

  I recently installed new fonts on my computer that my friend sent me so I can use them in Adobe Photoshop. When I downloaded the ".zip" folder containing the fonts I unzipped the folder, pressed Ctrl+A to highlight all of the font files and then I right clicked and clicked "Install". That is how I installed the fonts. Now the fonts in Google Chrome are messed up. When I go on websites such as Stackoverflow, Facebook, etc. the fonts are different and look really odd. Random parts of text are bolded or italized, etc. I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome and Windows 8 Pro. I took 3 screenshots to show you what I mean.

• Crop and Capture screen software/plugin for windows7

  Do you know a software or a plugin for a browser that lets me capture what's on my screen and crop it by ratio. I have a photoshop but I don't want to keep opening it just to capture a simple image and then croping it and then saving it. I want to quickly select a portion on my screen save it. If it's possible it lets me crop by ratio (eg. 4:3). Most that I will capture are in my browser, I use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. • Macro To Choose "Don't Save" on pop-up window (Mac OS X)

  I was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to choose "Don't Save" when an alert comes up. I'm talking specifically about Photoshop but the same action happens in many applications. It's the standard pop up that shows when you are canceling out of a window and haven't saved the document or project. To be clear it says "Don't Save", "Cancel" and "Save". Save is generally the default but I was just curious if there's a way to choose "Don't Save" without clicking. I know this may be a pretty simple question but I was curious about it and it's surprisingly hard to Google... Thanks!

• PDF rendering issue os OSX

  I came across some very odd rendering when trying to view a PDF file that needed to print out. I was wondering anyone has come across a similar problem before or has any ideas as to what might be causing this. PDF when viewed on OSX 10.7.4 - Preview version 6.0. I've tried opening the file in Skim but that doesn't work either. PDF as it should be, and as Chrome renders it in browser, but not if I download it onto my machine. Illustrator complains about "an unknown imaging construct" when I open the file, but renders it fine nevertheless, Photoshop doesn't have any problems either.

• Windows Swap (Page File): Enable or Disable?

  From my personal experience I've noticed that disabling the page file in Windows XP has given me, in general, the most speed gain out of any other software change I can make. Obviously this has to be done when a significant amount of RAM is available. Typically I find that it works nicely with +2GB of RAM. The only issues I've ever really had were loading up Adobe Photoshop. Is this really a speed improvement or am I imagining it? Note: In order to actually turn it off, you must not just set it to 0MB, but disable it. Otherwise Windows will just expand it when it needs to in order to meet its needs.

  Hi, I need some suggestions and alternatives in buying laptops. Me and my Girlfriend are planning to buy laptops. Her budget is $600 and mine is $850. We both love apple products, because of it's elegant design and yet powerful. But we can't yet afford mac laptops.. so we are looking for alternatives. One we see is The Stylish Sony E-Series (white version) see it here. To give you an Idea, Software she frequently use are Photoshop, MS Office and firefox. • Right Drag on Mac

  How do you perform a right-click-drag operation on Mac hardware? I know you can right click, but there does not seem to be a right click drag gesture. In my specific case I am using a MacBook Pro, and I am in a Windows environment. The question is more than just theoretical. I ask because there is functionality that uses this gesture, at least in the Windows world. For example, right now I'm trying to do a copy and rename in the TortoiseSVN repository browser. I think there are things you can do with a right drag in graphical editors like Photoshop as well. In windows you get a context menu when you right drag files. For those familiar with the software, I know I can do it in other ways; I'm not looking for workarounds to specific problems.

• OpenGL support no longer available

  I've been using OpenGL hardware acceleration in programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe After Effects CS4. I've noticed that recently the options for OpenGL previews are disabled because my graphics card seems to not support OpenGL. But that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I know for a fact that my graphics card does have support for OpenGL and it worked before. I checked for driver updates just the other day. Anybody know what's going on? • Color Temperature in PowerPoint 2010

  I'm teaching PowerPoint 2010 and it's got some great new features. Unfortunately, one that I can't wrap my head around is the the new "Color Temperature" feature for pictures. I do understand color temperature in general (i.e. the lower the number, the "colder"/"oranger" - the higher the number, the "hotter"/"bluer"). The way PowerPoint implements it seems opposite from most other programs - like Photo Filter in Photoshop. So I need to understand what this feature is in more detail so I can explain it to my students. Does anyone know?

P5B-MX Memory: 2 Gb VideoCard: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT HDD: 80GB + 250GB both IDE Operating System: Windows 7 32bit Please give me some advice what to improve in my System. I mainly used it for Graphic Design (eg, Photoshop, Cinema4d, Illustrator, Flash). I was planning to increase my Memory adding 2 GB more, Pushing it to something like 4GB in total. But just found out that recently that I already have 2x2GB installed and should be 4GB in total. When I looked at the properties of my computer, It said "Installed Memory 2GB". I wonder why is that happening? Is the other ram broken?.. I never the computer casing since I bought. so I didn't realize that I already have 2 x 2gb ram. what can you advice. Thanks!
