  • dynamic programming [closed]

    the input to this problem is a sequence S of integers(not necessarily positive). the problem is to find consecutive subsequence of S with maximum sum using dynamic programming. consecutive means that you are not allowed to skip numbers. for example: if the input was 12,-14,1,23,-6,22,-34,-13. the output would be 1,23,-6,22.

The actual instruction execution is handled in a lower layer. my question is, Given that you have a multicore environment, Can I use any programming practices to utilize the available resources more effectively?   • Replacement for C low level programming?

    So C obviously has a pretty dominant low level programming stronghold.....but is anything coming out that challenges/wants to replace it? Python/C#/etc all seem to be aimed at very high level, but when it comes down to nitty-gritty low level stuff C seems to be king and I haven't seen much "try" to replace that? Is there anything out there, or does learning C for low level stuff seem to be the standard?

    I am confused about how best to design this algorithm. A ship has x pirates, where the age of the jth pirate is aj and the weight of the jth pirate is wj. I am thinking of a dynamic programming algorithm, which will find the oldest pirate whose weight is in between twenty-fifth and seventy-fifth percentile of all pirates. But I am clueless as to how to proceed.

  • How to install VMware tools for Ubuntu 11.04 hosted on VMware ESXi?

    I'm running Vmware ESX 4.1 and I have a development VM that I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 11.04. Then I tried to re-install VMware Tools and some of the modules gave me an error and would not compile. As a result I'm having problems with backing up this virtual machine now and I suspect VMware tools is the reason. I installed latest patches for VMware host, that included an update to VMware Tools (v8.3.7 build-381511) but I'm still getting the same error.   • JVM (embarrasingly) parallel processing libraries/tools

    I am looking for something that will make it easy to run (correctly coded) embarrassingly parallel JVM code on a cluster (so that I can use Clojure + Incanter). I have used Parallel Python in the past to do this. We have a new PBS cluster and our admin will soon set up IPython nodes that use PBS as the backend. Both of these systems make it almost a no-brainer to run certain types of code in a cluster. I made the mistake of using Hadoop in the past (Hadoop is just not suited to the kind of data that I use) - the latency made even small runs execute for 1-2 minutes. Is JPPF or Gridgain better for what I need? Does anyone here have any experience with either? Is there anything else you can recommend?

I have to update these weights very often, several thousand times per learning session. Is FP still applicable here? I mean in fp we can't modify variables and only able to return new variables not changing previous values. Does this mean I have to recreate whole network on every weight update?

  • Ideas for student parallel programming project

    I'm looking to do a parallel programming project in C (probably using pthreads or maybe OpenMP) for a class. It will done by a group of about four students, and should take about 4 weeks.
