    I try to find any kind of automatic management services. What I mean: I purchase dedicated server. Login SSH and install any kind of Daemon. Control security, tune LAMP stack, monitoring etc. from dashboard. Never touch SSH and login in to the server. Pay every month for this service. I already find few providers, but they support only EC2 cloud servers. If you can suggest me anything for dedicated machines? If not- I need to hire anyone for 5h Administrator and 715h "Box-Watcher" every month :|

  • When is it too late to go back to coding from a management role? [closed]

    Problem solving keeps the mind sharp and if you are like me then it makes you happy. But what if you went from coding up to Team Lead and then to Project Manager? I have a team of 12 and on a good salary but lately have been thinking that the politics and admin tasks of being middle level management in an Investment Bank is not the right path to happiness. I used to be able to design and code as well as manage but lately it's all budgets, admin tasks and people problems. At 39 is it too late to go be a senior developer again? Basically - Team Lead in a flat structure with good people rocks. But if half your team is offshore then it loses something - There's a lot of politics in Project Management and so many meetings that even if you want to code you start letting your team down by missing deadlines and only suited for small units of work The coding skills haven't gone so to pick up WCF services it just takes a bit of reading and then playing around. I reckon I could switch to a Hedge Fund and go back to developing and be far happier and get more money. My 2 doubts though are 1. Mid life crisis in that I'd get bored with coding again 2. Or maybe I'd like it but there aren't many dev jobs for 40+ so I'd be throwing away a high level management role that took 7 years at thee one bank to get to0 Anybody else made to switch back and survived?

  • Setting the origin to center of the screen instead of the top left screen?(iPhone)

    Hi, I am working on an iPhone app and I am trying to make something that has to do with line-circle collision detection. I am using the slope of the line and checking if the coordinates of a circle suffice the equation y = mx + b. But, with the current origin (0,0) at the top left it is a pain to get the slope. Any way I can convert the coordinates so the origin is in the center of the screen?

What i am interested in, is functionality similar to PrintScreen button in windows, which takes snapshots of all screens, including third party application windows, not just window in which air app is running.   • Prevent Changing the Screen Saver and Wallpaper in Windows 7

    Sometimes you might not want users to have the ability to change Screen Savers and Wallpaper on Windows 7 workstations. Today we look at how to prevent them from changing either one or both. You might administer computers in your home or small office and find it annoying when users continuously change the wallpaper and Screen Savers to something obnoxious. A lot of times they might be inexperienced users and download these so-called “wonderful and free” Screen Saver/Wallpaper packages from shady sites that include loads of Spyware. Preventing users from changing them is another helpful tool to avoid wasteful time spent switching things back. Prevent Changing Screensavers & Wallpaper Using Group Policy Editor  Note: This method uses Group Policy which is not available in Home versions on Windows 7. Open the Start Menu and enter gpedit.msc into the Search box and hit Enter. When Local Group Policy Editor opens, navigate to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Control Panel \ Personalization. Then in the right column double-click on Prevent changing desktop background. Now check the radio button next to Enabled, then click OK. Back on the Group Policy Screen, double-click on Prevent changing screen saver. In the next screen select the radio button next to Enable, click OK, then close out of Group Policy Editor. Now when a user goes into the Personalization section, the Desktop Background hyperlink is now grayed out and inactive. Notice the message One or more of the settings on this page has been disabled by the system administrator at the bottom of the section. If they click to change the Screen Saver, an error message will pop up letting them know the function is disabled. Prevent Changing Screensavers & Wallpaper Using a Registry Hack You can also make a couple Registry changes to prevent users from changing the Wallpaper & Screen Saver…which will work on Home versions of Windows 7. Before making any Registry changes make sure you back it up first. Open the Registry by typing regedit into the Search box in the Start menu and hit Enter. First we’ll start with the Wallpaper. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and create a new String Value and name it Wallpaper. Then modify the Value data to point to the location of the Wallpaper you want it to always be. Where in this example it’s our main wallpaper on our local drive…then click OK. Now let’s make sure they can’t change the Screen Saver. In the same Registry location, we need to make a new DWORD (32-bit) Value. Give it the Value name of NoDispScrSavPage and the value data of “1” and click OK. Close out of the Registry and restart the machine or simply log off then back on again for the changes to take effect. Results For the Wallpapers, a user can still go in and see the selections, however if they try to change it to something else… It will just go back to the Personalization screen and no changes will be made, as we set the value to only be the background we specified. If the user tries to make a change to the Screen Saver, the hyperlink will be grayed out and inactive, and the message One or more of the settings on this page has been disabled by the system administrator will be displayed at the bottom of the section. Conclusion If you’re tired of users changing the Wallpaper and Screen Saver, and want another way to help avoid Malware, locking down these settings can help a lot. Again, before making any changes to the Registry, make sure to back it up. These settings should work in Vista and XP as well.     Ø       Some of you may wonder why we changed the product name from Oracle Enterpraise Taxation Manament (ETM) to Oracle Enterprise and Policy Management(ETPM).   When Oracle added a limited use license for Oracle Policy Automation to the Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management license, the license was re-named to Oracle Enterprise Taxation and Policy Management.  Ø     When referring to versions 2.2 and prior, the proper name is Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management (ETM) Ø     When referring to versions 2.3 and later, the proper name is Oracle Enterprise and Policy Management (ETPM) Ø     To take advantage of the limited use license for Oracle Policy Automation, customers must transition from the ETM license to the ETPM license.  However, they can remain on their ETM license if they are not going to take advantage of Oracle Policy Automation features.

    Hi guys I want to set up a cronjob on reboot to do this cd /home/admin/vivalaminecraft.com && screen -d -m -S mcscreen && mono McMyAdmin.exe The issue is when I execute this it seems to create the screen but doesn't do the mono McMyAdmin.exe in the screen... Is there like a then command ? so it does 1. then 2. then 3. ? Could someone please help out :) So I tried this: so I did this: @reboot screen -dmS minecraft @reboot cd /home/admin/vivalaminecraft.com @reboot mono McMyAdmin.exe It still doesn't work. The screen is created but it doesn't have the mono execution in it I put this in it #!/bin/bash screen -dmS minecraft; cd /home/admin/vivalaminecraft.com; mono McMyAdmin.exe; is this correct?

    How do I change the color that the system displays just before the login screen is displayed? Here is the boot sequence on my machine in the order that things are displayed: The BIOS screen is flashed. A Black screen is displayed for a few seconds. My Plymouth splash screen is displayed. Purple screen is displayed for a few seconds (This is what I want to change). Finally, the login screen is displayed.   • Automatically locking screen without shutting it off

    Hey everyone— I have a home theater PC running Ubuntu 11.10, outputting over HDMI (for audio and video). I'm having an issue: I'd like the screen to lock automatically (when video is not playing, of course) but do not want the screen to turn off automatically, because that kills audio. I can manually lock the screen, of course, but it appears that if you set the "Turn off screen" setting to "never", the screen will never lock, no matter what the "lock screen" timeout is set to. Is there a way to do what I'm asking, or will I have to install xscreensaver?

  • Full screen: launchbar + panel overlaps when showing a dialog box

    I'm developing a program for 12.04 that will run on full-screen, so I would like to have full control of what appears on the screen. However, when I show another window (possibly a dialog/message box), the Uunity Panel and Launcher appears on the top and left side of the screen. I've experienced this behavior with other applications (Firefox, Gnubg) as well when in full-screen mode. I tried to play with the settings, now my dialog box is hidden from the the taskbar, set to float on it's parent, which is my full screen window. The problem still exists. Is there a way to prevent these panels from showing up, when the new window isn't shown in taskbar, or it's parent is a full-screen window? Or do I need to completely disable them?

  • Adobe AIR: touch screen doesn't trigger mouse down event correctly

    i have designed a gaming kiosk app in as3 i am using it on a Sony vaio l pc (like hp's touchsmarts) in windows 7 the app doesn't need any multi-touch gestures (only single touch clicks and drags) so i am using mouse events everything is fine (including mouse click and move events) except that a single touch to the screen (with no move) doesn't fire a mouse down. it is fired only after a small move of the finger outside the app, on my desktop, i see that the small windows 7 cursor jumps immediately to where a finger is placed, meaning this issue isn't a hardware or a windows problem but rather how internally the flash app receives "translated" touch-to-mouse events from the os. for example, in a windows Solitaire game, a simple touch to the screen immediately highlights the touched card. in my app, a button will change to the down state only if i touch it and also move my finger slightly (click events - down and up - are triggered fine) shouldn't the MOUSE_DOWN event trigger exactly like how a TOUCH_BEGIN would in the new touchevent class? any ideas?

    I need to change or customize the call screen when initiating a call on Android. After searching on google I do not find any way to do it. There is no way to send DTMF tones during a call, the idea is to send a specific number to the call screen. So when a call is made is possible to see the number to dial during a call to the PBX. I tried to putting the number in the "status bar", but the notification hide after seconds and it is not practical. I appreciate any other suggestion. Thanks

  • Screen capture from windows service

    I've got DirectShow based screen capture software. Internally it calls CopyScreenToBitmap function to grab screen. Then the picture is compressed by ffdshow. It works fine as a desktop application, but as window service, on certain computers it does not work (black picture). I've set 'Allow service to interact with desktop' and run that service on current user account. Any ideas what could be wrong? I test it on windows XP, but it is expected to work on Vista and 7 as well. Yes it works as desktop application on all computers, but on some of them (on majority of them) it fails as a service.

    I am trying to convert a big forum. At the moment I have to do this via ssh and start convert.php with "php5 -f convert.php -- $OPTIONS". But my internet connection is a bit buggy and so it is often killed. If i start the above working command in a screen session it does not work.   • Screen overlay with Python, paint over an active window with background python script

    Hi I'm writing a python script that runs in the background and takes screenshots of another application that is active. Then it analyses the screenshots and now it should overlay a certain image over the active app or the screen. I still need to be able to make mouse and keyboard inputs in the active app. So I need a way to overlay/paint on another window or on the screen, and still keep the other window the active window so that I can make inputs. I would prefer to do that with python in Mac OS, but if it isn't possible, other languages and even Windows (if really necessary) would also be ok. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance!

  • Android - Adjust screen when keyboard pops up?

    I want to be able to adjust my UI screen on Android when the soft keyboard pops up. So at the minute I have something similiar to the first picture below where I have and EditText at the bottom of the screen and when a user taps the EditText I want the same as what happens in the second picture. That is that the EditText gets moved up and appears to "sit" on top of the soft keyboard, when the soft keyboard dissapears it should then return to its prior state. Can anyone let me know the best way to approach and implement this?

  • AVD Screen orientation not changing with CTRL+F11 or CTRL+F12

    I run my app in the AVD emulator using eclipse but I'm unable to change the screen orientation in the AVD (Android 2.0 platform on the emulator). When I press CONTROL+F11 or CONTROL+F12 on the keyboard, nothing happens. No messages are generated in the adb debuglog/logcat either when I press either hotkey. According to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html these are the correct hotkeys to switch the emulator's screen orientation. I tried it with my app, and with the messaging app. The hotkey has no affect in any case. I'm running Fedora 12, Gnome. I checked my Keyboard Shortcuts in the System - Preferences menu, nothing's attached to either hotkey. Same problem, 3 different PCs (all running Fedora Gnome).

  • Screen capture of MDI app with OpenGL graphics using MFC

    In our MDI application - which is written in MFC - we have a function to save a screenshot of the MDI client area to file. We are currently doing a BitBlt from the screen into a bitmap, which is then saved. The problem is that some of the MDI child windows have their content rendered by OpenGL, and in the destination bitmap these areas show up as blank or garbled. I have considered some alternatives: - Extract the OpenGL content directly (using glReadPixels), and draw this to the relevant portions of the screen bitmap. - Simulate an ALT+PrtScr, since doing this manually seems to get the content just fine. This will trash the clipboard content, though. - Try working with the DWM. Appart from Vista and Win7, this also needs to work on Win2000 and XP, so this probably isn't the way to go. Any input will be appreciated!

I want to customize the way my splash screen works (adding a progress bar, etc.) and would like to code it from the ground up but don't know where to start.
