• Grails 1.2.1 with Spring 3.0.0 dependency problem under Jetty

  Just moved to Grails 1.2.1 (used 1.1.1 before). Changed application.properties, ran grails upgrade, fixed BuildConfig and Bootstrap - everything works just fine from grails console. However, getting a problem when deploy packaged war under jetty 6.1.22: 1581 [main] ERROR org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader - Context initialization failed org.springframework.beans.factory.access.BootstrapException: Error executing bootstraps; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.codehaus.groovy.grails.commons.spring.ReloadAwareAutowireCapableBeanFactory.setParameterNameDiscoverer(Lorg/springframework/core/ParameterNameDiscoverer;)V My project is built with maven2. I researched the war dependencies and see that both spring 2.5.6 and 3.0.0.RELEASE are used there. I then tried to suppress use of spring 2.5.6 and got a problem with Acegi plugin (using version 0.5.1): 2010-03-10 21:06:56.440:WARN::Nested in org.springframework.beans.factory.access.BootstrapException: Error executing bootstraps; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.web.context.ConfigurableWebApplicationContext.setId(Ljava/lang/String;)V Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• What event do I need to supress to stop IE from "Dinging" when I press enter in a text box?

  On simple forms with one text box pressing enter submits the form (and this is great for easy search forms) However on a form with multiple fields, pressing Enter in an input="text" box won't do anything (e.g. submit) but in IE it "Dings" as if you have tried to delete an undeletable object. The question is... what event do I need to suppress in IE to stop this sound? e.g. if I have a username/password form, I DO want the enter key to submit the form, but I certainly don't want the "error" sound. • Hiding Table Rows

  I have a table that I'm using to show details from the line items of a quote. I want to hide a particular row depending on the value of the field in it. The expression I've tried is to set the row visibility to: =IIF(isnothing(First(Fields!NEW_PRICEBREAKS.Value, "QuoteDetail")),true,false) When I run the query from the dataset "Null" returns for NEW_PRICEBREAKS for most of the records. Also, when I expanded the row with another column with this expression: =IIF(isnothing(First(Fields!NEW_PRICEBREAKS.Value, "QuoteDetail")),"is nothing","not nothing") I see "not nothing" repeated over and over again. I've attempted to use TRIM inside of the isnothing to remove spaces and it still doesn't work. Also, the sql data type for NEW_PRICEBREAKS is nvarchar(MAX). Any ideas how I can suppress this row correctly?

• FxCop CA2000 Warning in UserControls

  Running FxCop on a WebProject that contains a UserControl will result in a CA2000 Warning (Call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object) for every ServerControl (Label, TextBox,...) in that UserControl. I understand why this would happen. Replacing the 'offending' ServerControls with a PlaceHolder and then adding the Controls in code (Using...End Using) might be a way around that, but it is not always an option.But, if they are not 'kosher' why have ServerControls you can drop in your ascx/aspx in the first place ?Am I missing something ? If, like in my case, you inherit a sizeable collection of fairly complex UserControls, do I now add every 'offending' Control to the GlobalSupperssions file (that's a lot of mind numbing right-clicking) ?I do not want to suppress all CA2000 warnings since it makes perfect sense to fix them, but not in the case of ServerControls in UserControls.

• Thoughts on Static Code Analysis Warning CA1806 for TryParse calls

  I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the CA1806 (DoNotIgnoreMethodResults) Static Code Analysis warning when using FxCop. I have several cases where I use Int32.TryParse to pull in internal configuration information that was saved in a file. I end up with a lot of code that looks like: Int32.TryParse(someString, NumberStyles.Integer, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, out intResult); MSDN says the default result of intResult is zero if something fails, which is exactly what I want. Unfortunately, this code will trigger CA1806 when performing static code analysis. It seems like a lot of redundant/useless code to fix the errors with something like the following: bool success = Int32.TryParse(someString, NumberStyles.Integer, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, out intResult); if (!success) { intResult= 0; } Should I suppress this message or bite the bullet and add all this redundant error checking? Or maybe someone has a better idea for handling a case like this? Thanks!

• Capture and display console output at the same time

  Hi, MSDN states that it is possible in .NET to capture the output of a process and display it in the console window at the same time. Normally when you set StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; the console window stays blank. As the MSDN site doesn't provide a sample for this I was wondering if anyone would have a sample or could point me to a sample? When a Process writes text to its standard stream, that text is normally displayed on the console. By redirecting the StandardOutput stream, you can manipulate or suppress the output of a process. For example, you can filter the text, format it differently, or write the output to both the console and a designated log file. MSDN This post is similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/786726/capture-standard-output-and-still-display-it-in-the-console-window by the way. • Problem with eastern european characters when scraping data from the European Parliaments Website

  Dear Experts I am trying to scrape a lot of data from the European Parliament website for a research project. Ther first step is the create a list if all parliamentarians, however due to the many Eastern European names and the accents they use i get a lot of missing entries. Here is an example of what is giving me troubles (notice the accents at the end of the family name): ANDRIKIENE, Laima Liucija Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) So far I have been using PyParser and the following code: parser_names name = Word(alphanums + alphas8bit) begin, end = map(Suppress, "<") names = begin + ZeroOrMore(name) + "," + ZeroOrMore(name) + end for name in names.searchString(page): print(name) However this does not catch the name from the html above. • FreeLibrary vs implicit unloading DLL

  I have implemented a DLL including DllMain() entry function:- BOOL APIENTRY DllMain( HMODULE hModule, DWORD ul_reason_for_call, LPVOID lpReserved ) { case DLL_PROCESS_ATTACH: ... case DLL_THREAD_ATTACH: ... case DLL_THREAD_DETACH: ... case DLL_PROCESS_DETACH: ... } Unfortunately i made a mistake in DLL_PROCESS_DETACH case and accessing illegal memorey (access violation). I made a sample program which loads the library using LoadLibrary() function, uses the library function and finally call FreeLibrary() and return. When i executed this program, i didnt get any error message. But if i remove FreeLibrary(), in that case the DLL_PROCESS_DETACH case is executed implicitly and this time it gives error dialog box mentioning that there is access violation. Why calling FreeLibrary() suppress this error? OR internally it handles this exception? What is suggested way.

  How can I hide the root node in a SiteMapPath control when the user is on the root node page? For example, my breadcrumb trail on a child page is: Home Products Hammers Ball Peen which is fine. But when the user is on the Home page, the SiteMapPath control displays Home which is useless clutter. I want to suppress displaying Home (the root node) when the user is on the home page. I have the SiteMapPath control in a master page. Also, I'm handling SiteMapResolve to set the querystrings in the nodes.

• How to skip "Loose Object" popup when running 'git gui'

  When I run 'git gui' I get a popup that says This repository currently has approximately 1500 loose objects. It then suggests compressing the database. I've done this before, and it reduces the loose objects to about 250, but that doesn't suppress the popup. Compressing again doesn't change the number of loose objects. Our current workflow requires significant use of 'rebase' as we are transitioning from Perforce, and Perforce is still the canonical SCM. Once Git is the canonical SCM, we will do regular merges, and the loose objects problem should be greatly mitigated. In the mean time, I'd really like to make this 'helpful' popup go away.

• Strange/simple batch question regarding Java/Ant

  For my company, I'm making a batch script to go through and compile the latest revisions of code for our current project. I'm using Ant to build the class files, but encountered a strange error. One of the source files imports .* from a directory, where there are no files (only folders), and in fact, the folders needed are imported right after. It compiles perfectly fine in Eclipse, but I'm using an Ant script to automate it outside of the IDE, and Javac throws an error when it encounters this line. Is there any automated procedure I can use to ignore/suppress this error with javac in Ant? I'd even go so far as to create a dummy file in the importing directory, but all of that in contained in a Jar file I don't wish to have to decompress and then recompress with the dummy file.   I'm editing a text provided by my client as a LyX file that includes graphics and other files that I don't have. I've "commented out" the graphics by putting in a custom preamble that substitutes the file-loading definitions with macros that just quote their arguments. However, the \includegraphic macro throws up an error in the two tabular environments where it is used, complaining that \endfirsthead was never defined. What is this macro, and why is it interfering with mine? • Corba sequence<octet> a lot slower than using a socket

  I have a corba releated question. In my Java app I use typedef sequence Data; Now I played around with this Data vector. If I am right with the Corba specification sequence will either be converted to xs:base64Binary or xs:hexBinary. It should be an Opaque type and so it should not use any marshalling. I tried different idl styles: void Get(out Data d); Data Get(); but what I see is that moving the data using Corba is a lot slower than using a socket directly. I am fine with a little overhead but it looks for me like tha data is still marshalled. Do I need to somehow configure my orb to suppress the marshalling or did I miss something.

• J2ME's extra annoying HTTP permission prompt

  Some phones only prompt the user for permission the first time a connection is made. Others pop up the permission prompt whenever the MIDlet attempts to make a HTTP connection! What are the options if we want to suppress the prompt? Can we sign the JAR using only one CA (Certificate Authority) and have it work on all devices? Do we have to pay for a signature on every release? Is it an option to create our own CA certificate and tell our customers to install it on there device? Alternatively, it seems that plain socket connections do not suffer so. Is there a free implementation of HTTP on top of TCP for J2ME?

  There's always one or two guys, who think, they are great programmers, and they don't need any literature/specifications/etc. They usually write awful code, that makes you want to hurt them. They catch and suppress Throwable's, return null's, concatenate String's in large loops, do other stupid stuff. So the question is — How do I make such a person follow best practices and specifications? He does not listen (cause he's the best programmer), team lead does not give a damn ("It actually works, so why changing it?.."), and I'm actually tired of rewriting that awful code on my own. What do I do? What would you do?

• Edit Mode Delete Spinner Icon for Specific TableView Rows

  I have a grouped tableview. Each section has three rows. I need to be able to delete one section at a time. Using the standard edit mode, I can make it work. However, the delete icon shows up to the left of each cell, not just the first row in each section. Is there a way to suppress the little spinner icon for all rows except the first? I am hoping there is an easy way to do this without subclassing. Thanks for your help. • Hiding result sets from multiple selects in a stored procedure

  I have a stored procedure that retrieves SQL queries as text and executes the statements using sp_executesql. Each of the dynamic queries is a count query in that it only returns the number of records found (select COUNT(id) from...). I am looping through a set of SQL queries stored as text and building a table variable out of the results. At the end, I am selecting all the results from the table variable as the result set that I want returned from the stored procedure. However, when I execute the stored procedure, I am naturally getting multiple result sets (one for each of the dynamic queries and one for the final select.) Is there any way I can suppress the results of a select statement executed through sp_executesql? I have found answers that reference storing the results in a temp table, but I don't have control of the query text that I am running so I can't change it to select into anything. Please help. • Does PrinterSettings.GetHdevmode() have a bug?

  I would like to be able to change the printer properties without bringing up the printer properties window... Using the DocumentProperties (imported from winspool.drv) function has so far failed, because while it is easy to suppress the dialog from showing up, it seems that the value returned by PrinterSettings.GetHdevmode() is not reflecting the PrinterSettings that is calling it, but instead the value from the previous printer properties returning OK. For example, this gives me the previous (wrong) values from the last call to the properties, instead of the values it should have from the PrinterSettings object: IntPtr hdevmode = PrinterSettings.GetHdevmode(PrinterSettings.DefaultPageSettings); PrinterSettings.SetHdevmode(hdevmode); PrinterSettings.DefaultPageSettings.SetHdevmode(hdevmode); So does GetHdevmode have a bug or is this what its supposed to do? Is there a C# work around for this or does anyone even have any information about it? I have been hard pressed even to find info on the topic. Thanks in advance for any insight.

• Is there a way to customise messages produced by statements in MS SQL Query Analyzer?

  If I run a simple query in SQL Query Analyzer, like: SELECT * FROM TableName the Messages pane always produces a message like: (30 row(s) affected) If I run a stored procedure with many statements, the messages are useless because there's no indication of what each one relates to. So firstly: Is there a way to customise the default messages on a per-query basis? E.g. I'd like a specific query to produce a message like: TableName query produced [numRowsAffected] results. replacing [numRowsAffected] with the number that would have appeared in the default message. Secondly, is there a way to suppress the default messages on a per-query basis? E.g. I have a local variable of type TABLE, used in several statements. I don't want any message to appear for statements where I'm just deleting data from that variable before re-using it. I'm seeking solutions that work in SQL Server 8.0.
