  • Write to XCode build transcript.

    - by eaigner
    Is there any way to write to the XCode build transcript? What i want to do, is throw a warning if a device is not attached to the computer instead of an assertion failure in my unit test cases (some cases rely on an attached ipod). I thought of something like the standard compiler warnings (only with custom message). Thanks.

  • Why do I not get low memory issues until images are draw on the screen?

    - by maxpower
    I am able to load over 200 UIImage objects into a NSMutableDictionary without any memorry warning issues. When I start displaying them on the screen (after about showing 10-20 images) I get low memory warnings and an eventual crash. Only about 8 images are displayed at anyone time. Does it take additional memory to actually draw a UIImage on the screen? No memory leaks are showing up and i've reviewed code for leaks many many times.

  • MySQL forgot about automatically creating an index for a foreign key?

    - by bobo
    After running the following SQL statements, you will see that, MySQL has automatically created the non-unique index question_tag_tag_id_tag_id on the tag_id column for me after the first ALTER TABLE statement has run. But after the second ALTER TABLE statement has run, I think MySQL should also automatically create another non-unique index question_tag_question_id_question_id on the question_id column for me. But as you can see from the SHOW INDEXES statement output, it's not there. Why does MySQL forget about the second ALTER TABLE statement? By the way, since I have already created a unique index question_id_tag_id_idx used by both question_id and tag_id columns. Is creating a separate index for each of them redundant? mysql> DROP DATABASE mydatabase; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) mysql> CREATE DATABASE mydatabase; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) mysql> USE mydatabase; Database changed mysql> CREATE TABLE question (id BIGINT AUTO_INCREMENT, html TEXT, PRIMARY KEY(id)) ENGINE = INNODB; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.05 sec) mysql> CREATE TABLE tag (id BIGINT AUTO_INCREMENT, name VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL, UNIQUE INDEX name_idx (name), PRIMARY KEY(id)) ENGINE = INNODB; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.05 sec) mysql> CREATE TABLE question_tag (question_id BIGINT, tag_id BIGINT, UNIQUE INDEX question_id_tag_id_idx (question_id, tag_id), PRIMARY KEY(question_id, tag_id)) ENGINE = INNODB; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> ALTER TABLE question_tag ADD CONSTRAINT question_tag_tag_id_tag_id FOREIGN KEY (tag_id) REFERENCES tag(id); Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.10 sec) Records: 0 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 mysql> ALTER TABLE question_tag ADD CONSTRAINT question_tag_question_id_question_id FOREIGN KEY (question_id) REFERENCES question(id); Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.13 sec) Records: 0 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 mysql> SHOW INDEXES FROM question_tag; +--------------+------------+----------------------------+--------------+-------------+-----------+-------------+----------+--------+------+------------+---------+ | Table | Non_unique | Key_name | Seq_in_index | Column_name | Collation | Cardinality | Sub_part | Packed | Null | Index_type | Comment | +--------------+------------+----------------------------+--------------+-------------+-----------+-------------+----------+--------+------+------------+---------+ | question_tag | 0 | PRIMARY | 1 | question_id | A | 0 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | | | question_tag | 0 | PRIMARY | 2 | tag_id | A | 0 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | | | question_tag | 0 | question_id_tag_id_idx | 1 | question_id | A | 0 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | | | question_tag | 0 | question_id_tag_id_idx | 2 | tag_id | A | 0 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | | | question_tag | 1 | question_tag_tag_id_tag_id | 1 | tag_id | A | 0 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | | +--------------+------------+----------------------------+--------------+-------------+-----------+-------------+----------+--------+------+------------+---------+ 5 rows in set (0.01 sec) mysql>

  • Objective-C subclasses question

    - by Johannes Jensen
    I have a class called Level, which is a subclass of NSObject. Then I have a class called Level_1_1 which is a subclass of Level. Is it allowed to type like Level* aLevel = [Level_1_1 alloc]; instead of Level_1_1* theLevel = [Level_1_1 alloc]; ? :) I try it and I don't get any warnings, just wondering if it's okay to do?

  • must have tools for better quality code

    - by leon
    I just started my real development career and I want to know what set of tools/strategy that the community is using to write better quality code. To start, I use astyle to format my code doxygen to document my code gcc -Wall -Wextra -pedantic and clang -Wall -Wextra -pedantic to check all warnings What tools/strategy do you use to write better code? This question is open to all language and all platform.

  • In what circumstances are instance variables declared as '_var' in 'use fields' readonly?

    - by Pedro Silva
    I'm trying to understand the behavior of the fields pragma, which I find poorly documented, regarding fields prefixed with underscores. This is what the documentation has to say about it: Field names that start with an underscore character are made private to the class and are not visible to subclasses. Inherited fields can be overridden but will generate a warning if used together with the -w switch. This is not consistent with its actual behavior, according to my test, below. Not only are _-prefixed fields visible within a subclass, they are visible within foreign classes as well (unless I don't get what 'visible' means). Also, directly accessing the restricted hash works fine. Where can I find more about the behavior of the fields pragma, short of going at the source code? { package Foo; use strict; use warnings; use fields qw/a _b __c/; sub new { my ( $class ) = @_; my Foo $self = fields::new($class); $self->a = 1; $self->b = 2; $self->c = 3; return $self; } sub a : lvalue { shift->{a} } sub b : lvalue { shift->{_b} } sub c : lvalue { shift->{__c} } } { package Bar; use base 'Foo'; use strict; use warnings; use Data::Dumper; my $o = Bar->new; print Dumper $o; ##$VAR1 = bless({'_b' => 2, '__c' => 3, 'a' => 1}, 'Foo'); $o->a = 4; $o->b = 5; $o->c = 6; print Dumper $o; ##$VAR1 = bless({'_b' => 5, '__c' => 6, 'a' => 4}, 'Foo'); $o->{a} = 7; $o->{_b} = 8; $o->{__c} = 9; print Dumper $o; ##$VAR1 = bless({'_b' => 8, '__c' => 9, 'a' => 7}, 'Foo'); }

How will I handle with this type of warnings? **[self.searchDetailViewController setText:appDelegate.dbdesc];** warning:'searchDetailViewController' may not respond to 'setText:' (Messages without a message method signatures will be assumed to return (id) and accept '...'as arguments )

  • Warning: newtype `CInt' is used in an FFI declaration,

    - by vivian
    When building gtk2hs-buildtools with ghc 7.4.2, I get the following warning: c2hs/toplevel/C2HSConfig.hs:110:1: Warning: newtype `CInt' is used in an FFI declaration, but its constructor is not in scope. This will become an error in GHC 7.6.1. When checking declaration: foreign import ccall safe "static bitfield_direction" bitfield_direction :: CInt I get similar warnings with FFI calls, even though I have import Foreign.C.Types(CInt). What is the correct way of getting rid of this warning?

    - by Slav
    g++ compiler complains about conversions between related types (from int to enum, from void* to class*, from const char* to unsigned char*, etc.). Compiler handles such convertions as errors and won't compile furthermore. It occurs only when I compile using Dev-C++ IDE, but when I compile the same code (using the compiler which Dev-C++ uses) such errors (even warnings) do not appears. How to mute errors of such types?

  • MySQLi error handling

    - by Spoonface
    Is it possible to specify that MySQLi sends any errors and warnings to the PHP default 'error_log' directive? I can't seem to find any error options for the class specification, and I don't wish to handle errors manually like so: if ($result = $mysqli->query("...")) { } else handle $mysqli->error;

  • iPhone memory management, a newbie question

    - by Reuven
    Hi, I've seen in (Apple) sample code two types of ways of allocation memory, and am not sure I understand the difference and resulting behavior. // FAILS NSMutableArray *anArray = [NSMutableArray array]; [anArray release]; // WORKS NSMutableArray *anArray1 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [anArray release]; By "FAILS" I mean I get crashes/runtime warnings etc., and not always as soon as I call the release... Any explanation appreciated. Thanks

  • Django save_m2m() and excluded field

    - by jul
    hi, in a ModelForm I replaced a field by excluding it and adding a new one with the same name, as shown below in AddRestaurantForm. When saving the form with the code shown below, I get an error in form.save_m2m() ("Truncated incorrect DOUBLE value"), which seems to be due to the function to attempt to save the tag field, while it is excluded. Is the save_m2m() function supposed to save excluded fields? Is there anything wrong in my code? Thanks Jul (...) new_restaurant = form.save(commit=False) new_restaurant.city = city new_restaurant.save() tags = form.cleaned_data['tag'] if(tags!=''): tags=tags.split(',') for t in tags: tag, created = Tag.objects.get_or_create(name = t.strip()) tag.save() new_restaurant.tag.add(tag) new_restaurant.save() form.save_m2m() models.py class Tag(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100, unique=True) class Restaurant(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) city=models.ForeignKey(City) category=models.ManyToManyField(Category) tag=models.ManyToManyField(Tag, blank=True, null=True) forms.py class AddRestaurantForm(ModelForm): name = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext)) city = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext), max_length=100) tag = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext), required=False) class Meta: model = Restaurant exclude = ('city','tag') Traceback: File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/core/handlers/base.py" in get_response 92. response = callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/home/jul/atable/../atable/resto/views.py" in addRestaurant 498. form.save_m2m() File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/forms/models.py" in save_m2m 75. f.save_form_data(instance, cleaned_data[f.name]) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in save_form_data 967. setattr(instance, self.attname, data) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in set 627. manager.add(*value) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in add 430. self._add_items(self.source_col_name, self.target_col_name, *objs) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in _add_items 497.   • In Android OS or Java, what's the difference between a character sequence and a string????

    - by K-RAN
    For the API (Android SDK API version 8) functions whose definitions list character sequence parameters, I can feed the function String instead. Best part is that they work the same way, no hassle, no warnings. Is there a difference between the two types? And more importantly, is there an inherent danger if I send the function a String instead of a character sequence??? Thanks for any clarifications!!! :D

  • Is there any way to make gcc print offending lines when it emits an error?

    - by Alex
    I have a large codebase that I've been tasked with porting to 64 bits. The code compiles, but it prints a very large amount of incompatible pointer warnings (as is to be expected.) Is there any way I can have gcc print the line on which the error occurs? At this point I'm just using gcc's error messages to try to track down assumptions that need to be modified, and having to look up every one is not fun.

  • Why are there differing definitions of INT64_MIN? And why do they behave differently?

    - by abelenky
    The stdint.h header at my company reads: #define INT64_MIN -9223372036854775808LL But in some code in my project, a programmer wrote: #undef INT64_MIN #define INT64_MIN (-9223372036854775807LL -1) He then uses this definition in the code. The project compiles with no warnings/errors. When I attempted to remove his definition and use the default one, I got: error: integer constant is so large that it is unsigned The two definitions appear to be equivalent. Why does one compile fine and the other fails?

  • Custom warning in Xcode

    - by maximumnamelength
    I'm working on an API library and I'd like to add a few warnings that would appear when another developers builds the app if an optional apikey is not included. It should be buildable w/o the key (since it's optional) so I can't just add a syntax error to force a build error. I know Xcode supports TODO and FIXME but those aren't really highlighted anywhere major. Any other thoughts on how to approach this?
