  I am trying to update my graphics driver by running: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel But I keep getting this message: Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: xserver-xorg-video-intel : Depends: xorg-video-abi-11 E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. When I run: sudo apt-get install -f Nothing happens, because the program doesn't even get half way to installing. I am running Lubuntu 12.04 on a HP Mini 110 netbook. I have tried changing to several different ppa's but that doesn't work. I want to update my driver so that my mouse stops flickering and ScummVM stops flickering every minute.

• fglrx installation without success - gl_conf issue

  I followed the steps of this guide. I've installed the drivers without any problems with sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb. The next step is Generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but I can't do this due to the following reason: When I enter sudo aticonfig --initial -f the terminal show me this output: sudo: aticonfig: command not found This problem is caused by an error with the symbolics links into the fglrx directory. Look at this section, where you can see -how to fix it- but it doesn't work for me. Why it doesn't? Because after I enter sudo update-alternatives --auto gl_conf the terminal show me this: update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for gl_conf. What I have to do to fix this problem? There were a couple of warnings at "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic fglrx-legacy" with update-alternatives. But, at the last step I got "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". Unity does not start anymore. I only can login to Gnome. How can I get back to a working system?

• DatagridView loses current edit on Background update

  Here's my problem : I have a DataGridView bound to a BindingList of custom objects. A background thread is constantly updating a value of these objects. The udpates are showing correctly, and everything is fine except for one thing - If you try to edit a different field while the background-updated field is being updated, it loses the entered value.   I've never written drivers before but I'm starting an open-source project that involves creating virtual MIDI ports that will send the MIDI data over a network. For this, I presume I would be creating some sort of virtual driver using WDM (unless it's possible with kernel hooks?) - but being a beginner to driver development I don't know where to begin. Does anyone know any useful resources that would help me with this project? Or some open-source code from a similar project that I could fork as a starting point?

• Which Xorg driver (not kernel driver) to use with GMA500/Poulsbo video hardware in 12.04

  I have a Asus EeePC with a GMA500 video card. I followed the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsbo/, which made the netbook boot correctly. Without any xorg.conf file, Xorg uses the VESA driver, which is quite slow. Manually specifying fbdev as driver in xorg.conf also works. Which one should I use? Are there any other drivers for Xorg that do better at 2d accelleration (since the kernel driver doesn't support 3d acceleration)?

• Broadcom BCM4331 not working on new Mac Mini 5,1

  I can't seem to get my wireless card working on my Mac Mini 5,1. Lspci returns: 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02) But running "additional drivers" doesn't detect anything. The nm-applet menu reads "device not ready--firmware missing." What can I do to get this to work? Note, this is with 12.04.1, so many of the previous discussions (for 11.10, etc) probably don't apply here.

• Lenovo G580 video driver does not work

  I have trouble with video driver. In my laptop, I have 2 video cards: GeForce 630M and Intel HD 4000 Series. I installed 12.04, it starts in Unity 2D mode, I try to install drivers to both video cards, but results inefficiencies. Nvidia control panel propose me to create xorg config file manually, but after this screen resolution resets to 640x480 and I can't get it back to normal mode. Please, help me if this is possible.

• Xorg.conf (nvidia) Second Monitor getting settings of first

  I've been spending the weekend (and some time before that) trying to set up my Korean QHD270 and Benq G2222HDL monitors with Ubuntu 13.10. With the nouveau drivers install both monitor function perfectly fine. After installing the nvidia drivers the Benq works but the QHD270 does not. Now, after days of struggling I managed to get the QHD270 to work following a mixture of blogs, particularly; this one and learnitwithme. Now, unfortunatly my G2222HDL does not work. • Microphone not recognised on my TekNmotion Intruder headset?

  I own a TekNmotion Intruder headset and Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't seem to even notice that my mic exists. I just re-installed Ubuntu and that doesn't seem to help either. They are a bit of a no-name brand and I can't find drivers for them. The audio plays clearly through the head phones but my mic wont record using "Record my desktop", Works rarely with Skype, and doesn't even show up when I go to Sound Settings ---- Input. Help please!

• How to get D-Link DWA-547 working on Ubuntu 13.10?

  I got a D-Link DWA-547 Wifi card which is supposed to work out-of-the-box with Linux. Says so here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k/products/external While lspci does list the device, NetworkManager doesn't seem to allow me to configure Wifi. lsmod also shows that ath9k isn't loaded. Manually loading with 'modprobe ath9k' doesn't help. How do I get this card working on Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit?

• Find out monitor make / model

  My friend has recently bought a second-hand vehicle with an in-car computer and it's wired up to a touchscreen monitor on the dashboard (very impressive!). Now, I've helped him install Ubuntu on it today but we can't establish the make and model of the connected touchscreen monitor to try and source the drivers to make the touchscreen function work. Are there any Linux commands to work out the make / model of an attached monitor? I've tried Google which pointed me towards the /etc/X11 directory but have had no joy with that.

But in 12.04 there is no additional drivers to install. I tried using: sudo m-a a-i broadcom-sta But building fails on 26%. • Installing NVIDIA driver causes black screen (750M)

  I have a dual boot set up on a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 with NVIDIA 750M and I am having problems installing the graphics cards. I have made sure to install both linux-headers-generic and linux-source, and yet have ended up with a black screen whether I install nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, nvidia-experimental-310, and nvidia-319. I even tried enabling proprietary drivers through settings and still ended up with a black screen on boot. Is my graphics card just not supported yet, or is there a way to fix this?

• KB2667402 update fails to install with 0x80004005. Yet it's also showing as installed

  I've got 15 Windows 2008 R2 x64 servers that I manage with SCCM2012. I've noticed during my Windows updates reporting that there's two boxes that are showing as 'error' for total updates installed. Digging around, it looks like the update that is failing to install is KB2667402. The Software Centre on the server itself shows the following: The software change returned error code 0x80004005(-2147467259). So SCCM thinks it hasn't installed the update. However, if I go to the Programs and Features application and select 'Windows Updates', I can see an entry for KB2667402: If I try and uninstall this, I get an error: An error occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled If I try and download the patch from Microsoft directly, I get the same error installing as displayed in Software Centre. The only odd thing about this setup that I can think would affect this is that I run the RDP service on a non-standard port. However, I do this across all the servers, so it seems odd that it would fail on just 2 out of 15. • How to Restart Windows Update Service in Windows 7?

  I'm running into an issue with Windows Update on Windows 7 Professional. I am totally up to date in Windows Updates as of last week, but discovered this issue [today] during my Sunday morning PC maintenance ritual. In CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM & SECURITY - Windows Update, when I select "Check for Updates", I get a pop-up stating: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I've re-started several times, checked that the service hadn't been disabled at start up, and I've googled extensively on the topic - but have come up with nothing. I know there must be some way to start the service from the cmd line, and I would like to know how to get the service to start at boot. Please let me know if I have left any details out that may aid in formulating a response. Any of the community's excellent insights would be greatly appreciated!

• Why does Windows 7 update fail with error 800706BE?

  I have 18 updates appearing for Windows 7 x64 but when I try to install any of them I get the error 800706BE. The Microsoft help that appears gives several solutions: Fix It button. This downloads MicrosoftFixit50123.msi from http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9666880 (963KB). After running it displays the message "This Microsoft Fix It has been processed". System Update Readiness Tool. This is actually in response to error 800B0100 which isn't the one I'm seeing. You download the file from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool (362 MB). After running it says "Do you want to install the following Windows software update: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)"

• Bluetooth drivers for Dell Latitude D830

  I haven’t been using Bluetooth on my D830 before but now I got myself a Bluetooth mouse in order to get rid of the receiver for a wireless mouse. And then I discovered that Bluetooth did not work anymore after I installed Win7. Browsing Dell support pages for a a driver found me one (browsing by computer model etc..). But that drivers does not work. Installation looks ok and everything but no devices are found. i kept looking and found this driver, also at Dells site: http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R231570&formatcnt=1&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=333170 And that one worked!  Problem solved an I am now happily using my Bluetooth mouse instead.

• Corrupt plymouth boot screen when using properietary Nvidia drivers

  I recently got the final version of Ubuntu Natty Narwhal x64 and everything is working just fine. The only thing I am having trouble with is the boot screen. After I installed the proprietary nVidia drivers, the boot screen becomes corrupt and only shows text (as it has been doing since Ubuntu 10.04). When I followed the instructions to fix the boot screen in 10.04 and 10.10, the boot screen still remains the same and the problem isn't resolved. Please give a full guide on how to fix this problem. I am asking this question because it says that the script works only with 10.04 and 10.10.
