It is fairly simple, it needs to let them store data on the student personal details and grades and have the ability to get reports and charts on the students achievements.     If considering to develop a web browser based game with multiple people and it's an RPG, click to move would probably be the only choice in movement right? Because if you were to use WASD and then ajax to the server every second that a player held on to the WASD key, that'd be pretty resource intensive if the server had to calculate the position and return the map image, assuming the next few screens are already buffered right? or is there a way to implement a WASD style and still have server side do all the calculations. (server side calculations to avoid cheating)

  • Problems with ASP.NET, machine-level web.config, and the location element

    I've got a server running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. The machine-level web.config has the following entries: <location path="Preview"> <appSettings> <add key="Environment" value="Preview" /> </appSettings> </location> <location path="Staging"> <appSettings> <add key="Environment" value="Staging" /> </appSettings> </location> <location path="Production"> <appSettings> <add key="Environment" value="Production" /> </appSettings> </location> I have a website that I'd set up in the direction D:\Sites\Preview\, so the full path would be D:\Sites\Preview\WebSite1. If I put a simple aspx file that just outputs the value of ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["Environment"], it displays the value Preview. I'm not clear on exactly how that works, but it does. I'd set this up several weeks ago, and just now tried to duplicate this - I put a second site in the D:\Sites\Preview\ directory, expecting that it would automatically pick up the appropriate appSettings entries, but for some reason it hasn't - the same aspx page doesn't show anything. Additionally, when I go into the IIS manager and open the Configuration Editor, there are no settings in there, whereas there are settings listed for the first site. Any ideas as to what I could be missing? Is the location element intended to work like this, or did I just find some magical fluke with my first site?

  • Visual Studio 2010 web.config transformations (TransformWebConfig target)

    I am trying to write unit tests for my transformations, so I am running: msbuild migrated-project.csproj /p:Configuration=Release /T:TransformWebConfig. This works for a new project I create in VS2010, but doesn't in this project. I'm assuming it's because it was originally a 2008 project. I know this is supposed to run in a webplatformbuild whatever, but what I'm trying to do, is just run the transform, so I can grab the transformed web.config, and run some unit tests to make sure the right values exist. I don't see TransformWebConfig referenced as a target in either project, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

  • Weird behaviour of the app.config deployment after updating it.

    I moved some hardcoded settings to a custom Section (so I did not use the <appSetting tag) in the app.config of my ClickOnce application. When updating, the clients got an error stating that the server gave a 404 not found error for the file "myapp.exe.config.deploy". Browsing on the server I did find the changed app.config there, only it was named app.config.deploy. Thinking to be smart I renamed the app.config to myapp.exe.config on the development machine and published again. That did not work... However after naming the file back to app.config and publishing the error went away and the clients used the setting happily! Please explain what went wrong?

I'd like to approach my next ASP.NET MVC project with this in mind. Can anyone suggest any principles, patterns or practices* I should consider? Excellent book, btw.   • Custom Application Page does not recognize tagPrefix defined in custom web.config

    I have a custom application page integrated in Centeral Administration. My application pages are placed in a subfolder in Template\Admin folder. I placed my own web.config in my subfolder and added tagPrefixes in the control section. However when I open my application page ASP.NET throws the exception that the tag SharePoint:InputFormTextBox was not recognized. What am I doing wrong? Or it doesn't work this way? What can i do to achieve this?

  • How do I resolve the config error which states a machine to application error

    I imported a website made in visual studio express 2008 to visual studio express 2010. When I run the home page I get the following error: "It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS." When I looked up the meaning of this on Google I read their needed to be a change to the configuration of the virtual directory. Another suggestion was to change the web config files . T Were these suggestions correct? If so how do I emplement them so that I can view these website pages on my local machine.

    Here's my web.config customErrors section (you'll notice I've switched the mode to 'On' so I can see the redirect on my localhost): <customErrors defaultRedirect="~/Application/ServerError.aspx" mode="On" redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="~/Secure/AccessDenied.aspx" /> </customErrors> and here's the code that throws: Catch adEx As AccessDeniedException Throw New HttpException(DirectCast(HttpStatusCode.Forbidden, Integer), adEx.Message) End Try and here's what I end up with: Which is not my pretty AccessDenied.aspx page but it is a forbidden error page so at least I know my throw is working. I've removed the entry for 403 in IIS (7.0) as a desperate last attempt and unsuprisingly that made no difference. I've run out of ideas now so any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated!

I have found a few examples (e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1316058) for custom sections that look like this: <RegisterCompanies> <Companies> <Company name="Tata Motors" code="Tata"/> <Company name="Honda Motors" code="Honda"/> </Companies> </RegisterCompanies> But how do I avoid the extra collection element ("Companies") so that it looks the same as the appSettings and connectionStrings sections?     Hi, My application needs to serve images hosted in travelnow.com (ie. this image) but the application only allow images hosted on a secured server (ie. https). What are my options? TravelNow's suggestion is as follows. How do I do this? Akamai image servers are not secure. Therefore you are unable to serve any of the image urls with a secure HTTPS URL. If you need to serve an image with HTTPS, you must temporarily save the image to your own secure server. This is suggested only for images to be saved as you use them or need them temporarily on the secure page. The hotel images file available from the Affiliate Center provides up to 1.5 million URLs at any time for all properties storing images in the Akamai system. It is not recommended or advised to store all files in advance on your own system since properties change and update images frequently. Although we are not responsible for the images each property stores on the Akamai system, YOU will be responsible for any customer issues arising from displaying outdated or saved image files on your own pages.
