  • Storing an image map in a database

    I have a requirement to allow users in a content management system to create their own image maps through a gui interface, which I have accomplished. But instead of saving the image map to the page code, I want to save the image map code to a database (sql), which I've also accomplished. When I started down this road in my head I was thinking the whole time that I'd just add the "usemap" attribute at runtime shown below where promo1.ImageMap holds the entire map code: if(promo1.HasImageMap) imgPromotion1.Attributes.Add("usemap", promo1.ImageMap); I guess I didn't think it though well enough, because it seems that "usemap" only expects the name of the existing map to use from the page code, and not the map code as a string. Does anyone have any clever ideas on how to apply the map from the database to the image at run time?

    Greetings. I'm writing a web application that is supposed to connect to a SQL Server database; the connection is formed from the following database string: <add key="DatabaseConnectionString" value="server=DEVPC1\SQLEXPRESS;uid=USERID;pwd=PASSWORD;database=DATABASE"/> However, whenever I try and run the web application, I get a connection error, specifically: An error occurred attempting this login: Login failed for user 'USERID'. Any suggestions on how to go about debugging this? I'm not really familiar with SQL, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Rails: How do I unserialize from database?

    Hello, I am currently trying to save information for an invoice/bill. On the invoice I want to show what the total price is made up of. The procedures & items, their price and the qty. So in the end I hope to get it to look like this: Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] etc... All this information is available through the database but i want to save the information as a separate copy. That way if the user changes the price of some procedures the invoice information is still correct. I thought i'd do this by serializing and save the data to a column (consult_data) in the Invoice table. (---The question---) But I can't seam to get back my data. I tried defining a variable to the consult_data attribute and then doing "variable.consult_problem" or "variable[:consult_problem]" (also tried looping) but it only throws no-method-errors back at me. How do I unserialize the data from the database and turn it back into hash that i can use? Thank you very much for any help!

    I am trying to rectify a previous database creation with tables that contains data that needs to be saved. Instead of recreating a completely new database since some of the tables are still reusable, I need to split a table that exists into 2 new tables which I have done. Now I am trying to insert the data into the 2 new tables and because of duplicate data in the old table I am having a hard time doing this. Old table structure: ClientProjects clientId PK clientName clientProj hashkey MD5 (clientname and clientProj) new table structures: client clientId PK clientName projects queryId PK clientId PK projectName I hope this makes sense. The problem is that in the old table for example you have clients with multiple clientIds.

  • Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

    This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

    I have an application that comprises multiple processes each accessing a single Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store (CDB) database. Each process is single-threaded and does no explicit locking of the database. When each process terminates normally, it calls DB-close() and DB_ENV-close(). When all processes have terminated, there should be no locks on the database. Episodically, however, the database behaves as if some process was holding a write-lock on it even though all processes have terminated normally. Does each process need to explicitly release all locks before calling DB_ENV-close()? If so, how does the process obtain the "locker" parameter for the call to DB_ENV-loc_vec()?

    Our whole application is now able to handle UTF-8 and it will be our choice in terms of encoding all across our architecture. The last step is to change the encoding of our MySQL databases. Of course, ALTER TABLE db_table CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci; should be able to convert each of the tables to the right UTF8 encoding, yet, is there anything else I should do? I believe that the my.cnf configuration file needs to be changed as well.

  • Designing DAOs around a JSON API for iPhone Development

    So I've been trying to design a clean way of grabbing data for my models in iPhone land. All the data for my application is coming from JSON API's. So right now when a VC needs some models, it does the JSON call itself (asynch) and when it receives the data, it builds the models. It works, but I'm trying to think of a cleaner method whereby the DAO's retrieve the information for me and return the models, all in an async manner. My initial thought is build a protocol for my DAOs, such that the VC would instantiate a DAO and make itself the delegate. When you requested data [DAOinstance getAllUsers] the DAO would do all the network request stuff, and then when it had the data, it would call a method on its delegate (the VC) to pass the data. So I think that's a cool solution, but realized that if I needed to use the same DAO for different purposes in the same VC, my delegate method would have to branch logic depending on which DAO instance initiated the request. So my second thought was to be able to pass 'handler' selectors to the DAO object a la typical javascript patterns. So instead of an official protocol, I would say something like [DAOinstance getAllUsersWithSelector:"TheHandlerFunctionOnMyVC:"] Then when the DAO completed its network activities, it would call the passed selector on the VC, and pass the data back. So am I headed in the wrong direction entirely here? Seems like maybe an ok way to go. Any pointers or articles on designing this kind of data layer would be sweet. Thanks! Bob

  • Rails with passenger only runs in development

    Hey, I have a problem on one of our webservers. I'll try to explain it as clear as possible, but I'm not 100% aware of all the configuration of the server. There are 2 sites running next to eachother (blcc_preprod and blcc_prod), so in the 'sites-enabled' of apache this i have a file 'blcc' like this: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/dn/blcc/www RailsBaseURI /blcc_preprod RailsBaseURI /blcc_prod RailsEnv production </VirtualHost> My config/environments/production.log (from both) looks like this(I removed all comments, because it messes with the layout) config.cache_classes = true config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_view.cache_template_loading = true config.log_level = :debug The weird thing is, that my production log dates from months ago, so something is really wrong. Could someone help? If you need more info, just ask. Thanks! I'm learing LINQ-to-SQL right now and i have wrote a simple application that define SQL data: [Table( Name = "items" )] public class Item { [ Column( IsPrimaryKey = true, IsDbGenerated = true ) ] public int Id; [ Column ] public string Name; } I have launched 2 copy of application connected to the same .sdf file and tested if all database modifications in one application affects another application. But strange thing arise. If i use InsertOnSubmit() and DeleteOnSubmit() in one application, added/removed items are instantly visible in other application via 'select' LINQ queue. But if i try to modify 'Name' field in one application, it is NOT visible in other applicaton until it reconnects the database :(. The test code i use: var Items = from c in db.Items where Id == c.Id select c; foreach( var Item in Items ) { Item.Name = "new name"; break; } db.SubmitChanges(); Can anyone suggest what i'm doing wrong and why InsertOnSubmit()/DeleteOnSubmit works and SubmitChanges() don't?

    The normal flow for resetting a user's password by mail is this: Generate a random string and store it in a database table Email string to user User clicks on link containing string String is validated against database; if it matches, user's pw is reset However, maintaining a table and expiring old strings etc seems like a bit of an unnecessary hassle. Are there any obvious flaws in this alternative approach? Generate a MD5 hash of the user's existing password Email hash string to user User clicks on link containing string String is validated by hashing existing pw again; if it matches, user's pw is reset Note that the user's password is already stored in a hashed and salted form, and I'm just hashing it once more to get a unique but repeatable string. And yes, there is one obvious "flaw": the reset link thus generated will not expire until the user changes their password (clicks the link). I don't really see why this would be a problem though -- if the mailbox is compromised, the user is screwed anyway.

    Hi Folks, There are actually two related questions: is it possible or advisable to use a full blown stand-alone SQL server for SharePoint Services WSS3.0 instead of the supplied windows internal database it comes with? The client I am working for is asking to utilize their existent SQL server for all WSS content databases to possibly minimize admin effort and improve performance. As well, would you advise to install WSS on one physical server and the content database on another server? Any gain in performace? Practicality? ect. The default is WSS and all of its databases are installed on the same single server. We don't really need a farm setup of MOSS, because the WSS capabilities are enough for our needs. Thanks, Val

    I have a Django form that uses an integer field to lookup a model object by its primary key. The form has a save() method that uses the model object referred to by the integer field. The database consists of tables, packages, materialized views, procedures etc. We are planning to decommission Oracle and migrate to SQL server 2008. Can you provide your experience on this similar exercise? What is the best approach to undertake this exercise? Are there any tools available with Microsoft to implement this? Once SQL server is commissioned, is it possible to connect SQL server to Oracle server in downstream applications?

    I am really new to the whole concept of Data storage, Domain, Server and everything else related to this. Can someone pleases explain what a Domain is? How are server part of the Domain and How are Database stored in the Server or Domain? How does a new server be able to connect to existing database server to get all the data needed. I tried to find this information in the web but I am not really finding a good resource. It may be because these is really basic information. I will really appreciate if someone can explain these concept in plain terms. Thanks in advance.
