  • [Android] Force close when trying to parse JSON with AsyncTask in the background

    - by robs
Hello everyone, i'm new to android development and i'm playing around with json data. I managed to get the parsing to work. I want to show a ProgressDialog and i read that i need to use AsyncTask that. But for some reason i get a force close as soon as i put the same working code inside doInBackground() eventhough eclipse says everything is fine. Here is the source code: public class HomeActivity extends Activity { public class BackgroundAsyncTask extends AsyncTask<Void, Integer, Void> { ProgressDialog dialog = new ProgressDialog (HomeActivity.this); @Override protected void onPreExecute() { dialog.setMessage("Loading...please wait"); dialog.setIndeterminate(true); dialog.setCancelable(false); dialog.show(); } protected void onPostExecute() { dialog.dismiss(); } @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) { try { URL json = new URL("http://www.corps-marchia.de/jsontest.php"); URLConnection tc = json.openConnection(); BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(tc.getInputStream())); String line; while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) { JSONArray ja = new JSONArray(line); JSONObject jo = (JSONObject) ja.get(0); TextView txtView = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.TextView01); txtView.setText(jo.getString("text")); } } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (JSONException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } } @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); new BackgroundAsyncTask().execute(); } } Here is the error log: 01-08 12:33:48.225: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(815): FATAL EXCEPTION: • C#: Check if administrator has write access to a file

    - by Bilal Aslam
The Problem: I need to check if a user (local user or domain user, either one is possible) has write access to a file (if you're curious, %windir%\system32\inetsrv\applicationHost.config. This file is protected by Windows and you need to be an administrator to write to it.) My Solution: The general construct is: using (Impersonator impersonator = new Impersonator(domain, username, password)) { try { using (FileStream fs = File.OpenWrite(appHostConfigPath)) { return true; } catch { return false; } } As you can imagine, the Impersonator class is an IDisposible which uses native interop to call LogonUser. Nothing too creative, and it works. Where I am stuck: On Windows OSs with UAC enabled, this function always return false even if the user specified by username is an administrator. Even though my program is running elevated as an administrator, I suspect what's happening is that the impersonated code is running as a limited administrator. Hence, the method is returning false. I don't have any creative solutions to this. Can anyone help?

  • File Upload in GWT in a Special Case

    - by Maksud
I am doing a software for a document system. In this system when a user completes a document and want to save it, the document will be uploaded directly to server without the user action. This system uses COM/ActiveX to facilitate user using native editors. Ok, my problem is: suppose I have a file say d:/notepad.txt. Using classical method a user can browse the file and upload it. I can do that with apache commonio and GWT FormPanel and FileUpload. But if I know the filename (d:/notepad.txt), is there any way to upload the file directly to server without the user having to browse the file. I am currently doing this by the ActiveX componenet calling some HttpUpload methods with POST. But that does not maintain session. Thanks

  • Improve responsiveness of $(...).click on touch interface

    - by Bram W.
I need access to a web-based on screen keyboard which will be used on a touch interface. This example looks nice and functional, however when I try it on an iPad, the responsiveness it very low IMHO. It's not comfortable to use and sometimes whole words are misspelled due to slow response. Is there a way to improve the experience on this type of on screen keyboard? This implementation uses the $('#id').click(...); function to process the events. Is there a better way to achieve the goal of typing on the screen? Are there better plugins out there? Note: The final application will run on different types of devices. For several reasons, native on screen keyboards are no option.

Using native XSL lib in PHP. Is it possible to get a node value inside a variable without having to call it through exslt:node-set every time.... it long and ugly. <xsl:variable name="mydata"> <foo>1</foo> <bar>2</bar> </xsl:variable> <!-- How currently being done --> <xsl:value-of select="exslt:node-set($mydata)/foo" /> <!-- I want to be able to do this --> <xsl:value-of select="$mydata/foo" />

  • Android: Is there a universal way to send the MMS on any android devices?

    - by Roces
This code works on the plain google devices with native android system. But there is no MMS app in the list on htc sense devices and I don't know about Motorola Blur etc.: final Intent emailIntent = new Intent(android.content.Intent.ACTION_SEND); emailIntent.setType("image/png"); emailIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, uri); context.startActivity(Intent.createChooser(emailIntent, context.getString(R.string.send_intent_name))); This code works on the htc sense but not from the Chooser, what I really need: Intent sendIntent = new Intent("android.intent.action.SEND_MSG"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, uri); sendIntent.setType("image/png"); context.startActivity(sendIntent); But I don't know how to combine this code samples together and I don't know how to determine Htc Sense ui programmatically. Is it right way to support different type of devices? Thank you for answers.

  • How to select the nth row in a SQL database table?

    - by Charles Roper
I'm interested in learning some (ideally) database agnostic ways of selecting the nth row from a database table. It would also be interesting to see how this can be achieved using the native functionality of the following databases: SQL Server MySQL PostgreSQL SQLite Oracle I am currently doing something like the following in SQL Server 2005, but I'd be interested in seeing other's more agnostic approaches: WITH Ordered AS ( SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY OrderID) AS RowNumber, OrderID, OrderDate FROM Orders) SELECT * FROM Ordered WHERE RowNumber = 1000000 Credit for the above SQL: Firoz Ansari's Weblog Update: See Troels Arvin's answer regarding the SQL standard. Troels, have you got any links we can cite?

  • Cannot get mysql gem to work in Snow Leopard, unable to setup ruby on rails environment

    - by user325020
I am having some serious problems, however this seems to be a common thing. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and here are my other version info: MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for apple-darwin10.2.0 (i386) using readline 5.1 gem 1.3.6 ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-08 patchlevel 173) [universal-darwin10.0] My problem is that no matter what I do to try and install the mysql gem, i still get the error every time i do rake db:migrate uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes I have installed the mysql gem based on instructions around the web that say to use export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ; sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- -v 2.7 --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config This DOES work, as it gives this output: Building native extensions. This could take a while... Successfully installed mysql-2.8.1 1 gem installed Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Is there a Cart/Catalog app out there that isnt a full site?

    - by prodigitalson
Every solution i come across seems to be a complete store with far too many options and too much functionality. I can write my own cart to get the minimal functionality i need out of the frontend, im just trying to cut out the time writing a complex backend. What im really looking for is something that offers the backend functionality for a product catalog, order management, etc. while providing a smooth and consistent API to access the data for my completely custom frontend application. The frontend will be in PHP so the API would have to be native PHP or some kind of web service interface i can create my own php models around. It would need to run on a LAMP stack and would preferably be written in PHP, Python, or Ruby just in case i need to customize the backend (she curently has ZenCart and hates it - says its far too complicated and sophisticated for her needs). Does such a thing exist? Or what would be the next best thing?

  • Portable way to determining of printer is physical or virtual

    - by Mud
I need direct-to-printer functionality for my website, with the ability to distinguish a physical printer from a virtual printer (file). Coupons.com has this functionality via a native binary which must be installed by the user. I'd prefer to avoid that. SmartSource.com does it via Java applet: Does anybody know how this is done? I dug through that Java APIs a bit, and don't see anything that would let you determine physical vs virtual, except looking at the name (that seems prone to misidentification). It would be nice to be able to do it in Java, because I already know how to write Java applets. Failing that, is there a way to do this in Flash or Silverlight? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Well deserved bounty awarded to Jason Sperske who worked out an elegant solution. Thanks to those of you who shared ideas, as well as those who actually investigated SmartSource.com's solution (like Adrian).

  • Building Cocoa UIs for OS X with C# and Mono

    - by Antony Perkov
Has anyone spent any time comparing the various Objective C bridges and associated Cocoa wrappers for Mono? I want to port an existing C# application to run on OS X. Ideally I'd run the application on Mono, and build a native Cocoa UI for it. I'm wondering which bridge would be the best choice. In case it's useful to anyone, here are some links to bridges I've found so far: CocoSharp - distributed with Mono on OS X - www.cocoa-sharp.com Monobjc - better documentation than the others (in my opinion) - www.mono-project.com/CocoaSharp and www.monobjc.net NObjective - (apparently) faster than the others - code.google.com/p/nobjective MObjc / MCocoa - code.google.com/p/mobjc and code.google.com/p/mcocoa ObjC# - www.mono-project.com/ObjCSharp

  • Overriding PEAR error handler

    - by Rolf
Hi everyone, I'm currently working on an application that requires lots of external libraries. My job right now is set a unique error handler that will manage every error. So far, I found 7 different types of PEAR errors: PEAR_ERROR_RETURN: PEAR_ERROR_EXCEPTION: PEAR_ERROR_CALLBACK: PEAR_ERROR_EXCEPTION: PEAR_ERROR_PRINT: PEAR_ERROR_TRIGGER: PEAR_ERROR_DIE: I want to handle only the serious error (like the native E*_ERROR). The only problem is I have absolutely no idea about PEAR error criticity ! Those names are more related to the way of handling them than to their seriousness... Is there a real documentation about it ? I guess a better solution would consist in using their pushErrorHandling, but I just don't understand how to use it... If someone here knows, I'd be grateful... Thanks in advance !

  • Nhibernate multilevel hierarchy save error?

    - by nisbus
    Hi, I have a database with a 6 level hierarchy and a domain model on top of that. something like this: Category -SubCategory -Container -DataDescription | Meta data -Data The mapping I'm using follows the following pattern: <class name="Category, Sample" table="Categories"> <id name="Id" column="Id" type="System.Int32" unsaved-value="0"> <generator class="native"/> </id> <property name="Name" access="property" type="String" column="Name"/> <property name="Metadata" access="property" type="String" column="Metadata"/> <bag name="SubCategories" cascade="save-update" lazy="true" inverse="true"> <key column="Id" foreign-key="category_subCategory_fk"/> <one-to-many class="SubCategory, Sample" /> </bag> </class> <class name="SubCategory, Sample" table="SubCategories"> <id name="Id" column="Id" type="System.Int32" unsaved-value="0"> <generator class="native"/> </id> <many-to-one name="Category" class="Category, Sample" foreign-key="subCat_category_fk"/> <property name="Name" access="property" type="String"/> <property name="Metadata" access="property" type="String"/> <bag name="Containers" inverse="true" cascade="save-update" lazy="true"> <key column="Id" foreign-key="subCat_container_fk" /> <one-to-many class="Container, Sample" /> </bag> </class> <class name="Container, Sample" table="Containers"> <id name="Id" column="Id" type="System.Int32" unsaved-value="0"> <generator class="assigned"/> </id> <many-to-one name="SubCategory" class="SubCategory,Sample" foreign-key="container_subCat_fk"/> <property name="Name" access="property" type="String" column="Name"/> <bag name="DataDescription" cascade="all" lazy="true" inverse="true"> <key column="Id" foreign-key="container_ DataDescription_fk"/> <one-to-many class="DataDescription, Sample" /> </bag> <bag name="MetaData" cascade="all" lazy="true" inverse="true"> <key column="Id" foreign-key="container_metadata_cat_fk"/> <one-to-many class="MetaData, Sample" /> </bag> </class> For some reason when I try to save the category (with the subcategory, container etc. attached) I get a foreign key violation from the database. • Program ends abruptly even in debugger - how did that happen?

    - by Mick
I am trying to debug a program that unexpectedly shuts down. When I say "shuts down, I mean one moment I am seeing all the windows being displayed, each of which is showing all the right data, then suddenly all the windows disappear. The is no messagebox reporting anything wrong. So I tried running the program in the debugger hoping that it would somehow trap whatever was causing the program to abort, but even within the debugger the program simply ends abruptly. The last line in the debugger is: The program '[5500] test.exe: Native' has exited with code 0 (0x0). My program which is extremely large and extremely old has a lot of self diagnostics. My suspicion is that perhaps a self test has failed and maybe I just called "exit()", forgetting to pop up a dialog explaining why. My question now is, how can I find out from which point in the code, my program quit?

  • Shoes and Gems and how to get them working.

    - by Pselus
I have seen this question asked all over the internet and answered in many different ways. None of them seem to be working for me. I am trying to get Gems to work in Shoes (specifically the gem Mechanize). Whenever I use the code: Shoes.setup do gem 'mechanize' end require 'mechanize' It gives me the popup that says it is installing native extensions and sits at that screen for 30 minutes and longer (I've only ever waited as long as 30 minutes). I have seen people say that you should be putting the .gem files in ~/.shoes/+gem/gem (on OS X) but that hasn't worked for me. Neither has putting the source code for the gem there. On another odd note, both the gems RedCloth and Nokogiri come with Shoes...but using the above code for them gets me No such file to load errors for both of them. Anyone have any expertise in this area and can help me out?

  • How do I write my own desktop sharing application in java ?

    - by nomemory
Hello I want write my own desktop sharing application in Java. The application should have some very default features: Capture screen; Allow a remote connected user to click / edit fields. I was thinking to use Java Robot class for mouse movements / key pressing. The problem is i don't know what screen capture strategy to use. Should I make sequentially screen captures (on the hosting computer) every second, and send those captures with UDP via network, so that the clients can intercept the data-grams ? Isn't this a little overkill for the network ? What other strategies are available ? (Except trying an already existing app). PS: If necessary I can even write native code using JNI (still that's the last thing I planning to do).

I have recently started working on an app which has both Java and native components. I am trying to generate trace information for both components using Debug.startMethodTracing("myapp") and Debug.startNativeTracing() alternately. However, both are behaving unexpectedly. When I use Debug.startMethodTracing("myapp"), I can see a file /sdcard/myapp.trace being created but it is always empty no matter how long I run my app. When I use Debug.startNativeTracing() and start the emulator with the -trace <tracename> switch, I see a message saying "Trace started", but when I try to run my app, the emulator crashes. Am I missing something obvious here? How do I debug this problem?

  • Why do Java/C# edge out C++ as the recommended language to learn OOP on S.O?

    - by viksit
I noticed after reading the answers/discussion to this question (What is the best language to learn OOP on?) - that more and more people are recommending C# or Java over C++ to learn OOP on. A simple term search on that answer page results in 10 hits for C++, 21 for C# and 27 for Java. Now, I understand that these 2 languages fix a lot of quirks and issues with C++, and looked up these resources that relate mostly to performance, JVM vs native implementation, systems focus vs applications, manual memory management vs automated et al. My question is - are there any fundamental differences in the OO capabilities of Java/C# vs C++? Or are the former recommended purely due to their generic ease of use/improvements over the latter? Thanks. PS, I'm aware of Java interface inheritance vs C++ multiple inheritance as a difference. I would consider that an implementational one rather than functional.

  • How to easily pass a very long string to a worker process under Windows?

    - by sharptooth
My native C++ Win32 program spawns a worker process and needs to pass a huge configuration string to it. Currently it just passes the string as a command line to CreateProcess(). The problem is the string is getting longer and now it doesn't fit into the 32K characters limitation imposed by Windows. Of course I could do something like complicating the worker process start - I use the RPC server in it anyway and I could introduce an RPC request for passing the configuration string, but this will require a lot of changes and make the solution not so reliable. Saving the data into a file for passing is also not very elegant - the file could be left on the filesystem and become garbage. What other simple ways are there for passing long strings to a worker process started by my program on Windows?

  • Thread local storage with __declspec(thread) fails in C++/CLI

    - by EFrank
I'm working on a project where we mix .NET code and native C++ code via a C++/CLI layer. In this solution I want to use Thread Local Storage via the __declspec(thread) declaration: __declspec(thread) int lastId = 0; However, at the first access of the variable, I get a NullReferenceException. To be more precise, the declaration is done within a ref class (a .NET class implemented in C++/CLI). I have already read something about __declspec(thread) does not work with delay loaded DLLs. Am I using delay loaded DLLs automatically if I use .NET?

  • AMF through a BinarySocket written in .net

    - by KensoDev
Hi All, I have a windows service behaving as a Binary Socket sending data to flex applications. Once I try to send strings or int's or any other native data-type, everything is working great. I even succeeded in sending JSon from the server to the client parsing it on Flex. I want to send AMF objects to the client. Meaning, I have a class called User, I want to fill it with data and send it to the client, there I want it to be mapped to an object on the client. How can I achieve this?

  • Graph database for .NET

    - by Antonello
I've been designing an application, based on .NET/Mono framework, which should make an heavy use of the shortest-path in a graph theories and I would like to use a native solution to traverse the nodes of the graph, instead of implementing surrogate solutions which would be hardly maintainable and would massively affect performances. I've found an application which would be perfect for my scope: neo4j. Unfortunately, this application is purely written in Java code and it's not portable to .NET, because of the massive differences between the two architectures. Is anyone out there knows if is it there any port of neo4j or a similar solution for .NET?

  • Java compilers or JVM languages that support goto?

    - by unknown
Is there a java compiler flag that allows me to use goto as a valid construct? If not, are there any third-party java compilers that supports goto? If not, are there any other languages that support goto while at the same time can easily call methods written in Java? The reason is I'm making a language that is implemented in Java. Gotos are an important part of my language; I want to be able to compile it to native or JVM bytecode, although it has to be able to easily use Java libraries (ie. C supports goto, but to use it I'd have to rewrite the libraries in C). I want to generate C or Java, etc source files, and not bytecode or machine code. I'm using a third-party compiler to do that.
