• Casting to specific asp.net page type

  I have an asp.net page with a code-behind class definition as follows: public partial class examplepage : System.Web.UI.Page I'd like to set a public property within the page that I can reference from other classes. My understanding is that if I cast to examplepage then I should be able to get at the public property that is specific to example page, as in: string test=((examplepage)HttpContext.Current.Handler).propertyX; However, when I try casting as above the compiler does not recognise examplepage. Can anyone tell me how I can cast? I have no specific namespaces defined. Thanks

  I have an Asp.NET 3.5 application with security/authentication. I have a second application (built using GWT and running on Windows Tomcat) running on a different machine. I need to make the second application available to the user via a link generated from the .NET application. This part is easy, I have constructed the link in the asp.net page and the user can click on it to start working in the GWT/Tomcat session. My question is this... How do I set it up so that the Tomcat/GWT application is Only Accessible via the link in my asp.NET application? I don't want the user to be able to copy the link from my asp.net page and then share that with someone else who is not authenticated within my asp.net application.

• cache problem in asp.net

  I'm seeing an issue of some static pages that are using the browser cache, which is not desired. To prevent caching, I'm setting <clientCache cacheControlMode="DisableCache" /> in the relevant <location> tag in web.config If I open the page in Firebug (in the Net tab), I see that the Response headers have Cache-Control: no-cache which is correct, but the status of the Response is 304 Not Modified! Isn't that a contradiction? How can I get it to stop caching (i.e. always send a 200 with content)?

  I don't know if I'll pass all the necessary information here, but I've only been asked to post this question here and I'm not entirely onto the matter. There is a .NET Framework 2.0 application compiled in the Debug mode with the parameter jitDebugging set to true in app.config <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> After any crash we get the dialog box allowing us to send a report or to debug the program. When we choose to debug and select proper VS, the IDE starts but with the announcement: No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed. and Disassembly cannot be displayed in run mode. Is there any possiblity to see the code or the spot where the crash has occured?

• CLR - Common language runtime detected an invalid program in VS.NET

  I have been using Visual Studio 2008 quite long but lately I am getting this message when I am developing an application in C#: Common language runtime detected an invalid program This happens when I try to enter to the properties of a component (text masked box properties, tool box property etc..). But it really became a problem when I tried to launch an other solution that I downloaded from the Developer's 5 star program of Microsoft and it didn't allowed me to launch at all and just got the same problem... I looked for the answer at google but just got some clues about people having the same vague error but in different situations like in ASP.NET I would appreciate any help with this issue... :( I do not want to reinstall VS, that will be my last resource... Update: I never figured out what the problem was so I installed a virtual machine with Windows XP on it, there I only have Visual Studio and Netbeans.

  Hi, I am just a beginner in ASP.NET. My question is simple, I wanna add list items dynamically from the code behind file and I want each item to have a text and couple of images as hyperlinks. The HTML sample should be like, <ul> <li>do foo &nbsp;<a href="#"><img src="some_image.png" /></a></li> <li>do bar &nbsp;<a href="#"><img src="some_image.png" /></a></li> ... </ul> The number of items is dependent on the collection retrieved by the code behind file. I can understand how to do any type of custom route if it expands from or is similar/smaller than the Default Route. However, I am trying figure out how to do a route similar to: /Language/{id}/Question/{id}/ And what I would like, too, is similar to how SO works. Something like: /Language/{id}/Arabic/Question/{ID}/Some-Question-Title Where "Arabic" and "Some-Question-Title" can be almost anything because what really matters is the ID's Am I going beyond what can be done with the extended URL past the language ID?

  I use VS2010,C# to develop an ASP.NET web site, my customers want me to have their pages like this: mysite.com/customer (in fact they call mysite/customer/default.aspx) so I've manually created several folders for each customer, and inserted a default.aspx file in the folder so that users can view customer page by typing mysite.com/customer is there a better way for performing this scenario? I don't want to have mysite.com/customer1.aspx, I want to have mysite.com/customer1, is there anyway that I can remove folders (and their containing default.aspx files) and generate something automatic using my customers database? should I use URL rewriting? is there anyway that I can create page mysite.com/customer1.aspx, and users can view it by typing mysite.com/customer1? I think it is possible to rewrite URLs in web.config, but I don't want to do it manually in web.config as my pages would increase in a daily basis thanks

  I am trying to get remote validation working in ASP.NET MVC 3 but for some reason the validation never gets fired. I am returning json from the controller and in FireFox it ask me to download the files. Not sure what is going on here. • Changing colour of types for VB.net in VS

  I am currently working on a VB.NET project and the hardest thing that I am having trouble with is that everything is black and blue. Having worked a lot with C#, I really like the way that types are colored differently. I have tried going in and having a look at the "Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors" and the various "User Types" under "Display Items" is set to a different colour but its not reflecting that colour in the text editor. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  i have a database that already has a users table COLUMNS: userID - int loginName - string First - string Last - string i just installed the asp.net membership table. Right now all of my tables are joined into my users table foreign keyed into the "userId" field How do i integrate asp.net_users table into my schema? here are the ideas i thought of: Add a membership_id field to my users table and on new inserts, include that new field in my users table. This seems like the cleanest way as i dont need to break any existing relationships. break all existing relationship and move all of the fields in my user table into the asp.net_users table. This seems like a pain but ultimately will lead to the most simple, normalized solution any thoughts?

  It it possible to enable validation in an ASP.NET GridView purely declaratively? What I've tried: A GridView bound to an ObjectDataSource with SelectMethod and UpdateMethod defined The GridView contains some ReadOnly BoundField columns and a TemplateField whose EditTemplate contains a TextBox and a RegularExpressionValidator that only allows numeric input in the TextBox. The GridView also contains a CommandField with ShowEditButton=true and CausesValidation=true. If I click on Edit, enter an invalid value, then click on Save, there is a PostBack, and an exception is thrown in the server (Input string was not in a correct format).   Hello, I have searched a lot to find a solution for my problem, but I can't find any specific solution. I need to change a value which is stored under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\APP_NAME. It is not possible to use .NET's registry functions, since they have drastic restrictions. • VB.NET Use WebRequest to check if URI is valid

  Looking for the best way to determine if a URI exists in VB.NET without downloading the actual content. System.IO.FileExists/My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists can be used locally to determine if a file exists, is there an equivalent for the Web? Currently I am using a HttpWebRequest to check URI existance using the ResponseStream. This populates the stream if the target does exist and throws an exception if it doesn't. The function is being expanded to also check for PDF files (typically 5MB +), images, etc and it will be a waste of time/bandwidth to actually populate the content into a stream. In the case of "Success" (the target does exist) I do not wish to download the file or page, simply to end up with a Boolean which indicates the whether something exists at the end of this URI.

My first thought had been to create a SQL Server job and use xp_cmdshell to move the files but after a bit of research i decided against it. My question now is what is the best way to implement this as a .NET application? Should I create a Windows service? A console application that is scheduled to run once per night? Some other cool way that I don't even know about?

  I know the built-in ASP.Net validators come with a client-side framework, however I've been unable to find anything that lets me check a single validator for it's Valid state. I expect it to be possible though, so I hope someone in here knows how to do it :-) The validator in question is a RegularExpressionValidator, which I use to determine whether an e-mail address is valid or not.   Howdy, Im adding the filevistacontrol to my asp.net MVC web application. I have a media.aspx page that is ignored in the routing with routes.IgnoreRoute("media.aspx"); This works successfully and serves a standard webforms page. Upon adding the filevistacontrol, I can't seem to ignore any calls the control makes to it's webservice. Eg the following ignoreRoute still seems to get picked up by the MvcHandler. routes.IgnoreRoute("FileVistaControl/filevista.asmx/GetLanguageFile/"); The exception thrown is: 'The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value' Thanks in advance.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 Client Side Validation doesn't work as advertised in VS2010

  In VS2010 and ASP.NET MVC 2, it seems that client-side validation (JQuery Futures or the stock option) doesn't quite work as advertised. I'm noticing that "tabbing off" a validated element will not invoke the client-side validation as promised. For a required field, you have to tab into the element, enter something, then remove it completely, in order to trigger the required validation. That's not really what I'm after here, and I'm hoping it's just a configuration issue on my side. How do I get the validation effects from previous versions so that a previous value isn't necessary (without having to modify the client-side scripts if possible)?

• vb.net more performance for moving objects

  I have the mission to make a small game for a school project. Pictures boxes, moved by a timer for walking enemies.If there are around 5 or 6 moving picture boxes at the form, my application get troubles and lags. After I kill some enemies (remove them from the Controls Collection of the Form/Panel) It come back smooth. I think the loop of the enemy movement is too complicated but I don't know how to make that simpler. • Connecting to TFS via ASP.NET, jQuery and Phonegap

  I want to develop a mobile application that would allow the user the ability to run a suite of automated test cases housed in TFS. This is something I thought of this morning so it's all still very preliminary. But I'm curious as to what would be the best route for something like this? Or if it's even possible? Because the mobile devices from the users will vary from iphones to droids, I would probably want to incorporate something like Phonegap for it's cross platform capabilities. My initial thought was to develop in ASP.net/C# (which would be stored on a remote server), and have jQuery make calls to that server. Not sure if that would be the most appropriate way of handling this. I'm not too familiar with JSON but I have seen it as a suggestion on various sites to handle the returned data. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
