  I have an external hard drive that is connected to my computer (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) via a USB port. BitLocker has been activated on the hard drive to protect the data. Yesterday I started downloading a huge data from the internet but now it failed to complete because of CRC error. I tried to repair it with chkdsk f:/r where f is the drive letter of that hard drive. • Login authentication vanished from MongoDB install

  A few months ago I enabled password protection on my MongoDB install. Today I ran the Mongo client and forgot to use my login details. Instead of rejecting nearly everything I try to do from the shell, like it should, I had complete access to all the databases and collections. Fortunately this instance is only running a few test apps, so I quickly shutdown the MongoD instance until I figure this out. Has anybody ever seen this kind of behavior before and knows what is going on? The MongoD instance is running on a Linux VM hosted by Azure. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps Azure restored an old copy of the VM, but I received no E-mails to that effect and everything else on the server seems to be proper, including new daemon processes that I added after I enabled password protection on MongoD.

• Shared storage solution for our sql server backups

  We have 3 clustered sql servers. We have 5+ multi terrabyte databases and their backup files (compressed using quest litespeed) are hitting over 600gb each, We are required to keep at least a week or two weeks (if we can) of weekly full backups and then 6 days differential backups, and a week or 2 weeks worth of log backups local. We are currently limited to 2TB volumes from our san team, we can have multiple volumes but they are expensive ($200 per raw TB per month) and having to deal with many backup volumes instead of a single big volume is difficult. I think if we could have a shared network storage of 20TB+ raid 10 or so for all our servers for keeping the backups and another department will copy them to tape from the network storage and delete files according to the retention period would be good, if this box would be a build in operating system (even unix a complete file storage system) that would be good. What do you guys think, does this make sense to you, is there any manufacturer that sells a storage product like that which that work in a clustered environment? Thank you

  my computer is running window XP home editon. the avg i am using is expirying soon and so a pop out ask me to install AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011. When the download is about to complete, i was ask to reboot the computer, i click "OK". after my computer restart , there was a pop out say "AVG Installer- Error A system restart is required in order to continue with the installation. Please restart your system and try again." Since the only option was "OK" i click it, and restart my computer. After restarting, the same pop-out appear. I could not download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 as the pop-out keep appearing if i run it or uninstall. can anyone help me?? btw my brower is int

• starting Tomcat from Eclipse

  I've just got eclipse for jee installed, and also downloaded apache 6.0.29 and added it in eclipse preferences. I followed up this tutorial, and all i got when i run it is 404 page with "The requested resource (/WebService/) is not available." description. I can't even access root folder of tomcat at localhost:8080. However, if i start tomcat through concole command, it's working fine and home page and examples are accessible. I'm a complete noob at tomcat and eclipse(been working with netbeans before), so i've got no idea what's wrong.

• Migrating websites from IIS 6 to Apache Tomcat

  I have 4 CFML coded websites currently running on Railo 3 (CFML engine using Resin) and IIS. I would like to upgrade my server and websites to Railo 4, which no longer uses Resin, but runs on Apache Tomcat. I have quite limited knowledge when it comes to web servers and I wanted to know what the process would be to move the websites from Railo 3 to Railo 4 without disrupting the live sites? Would there still be a need for IIS after the installation of Apache Tomcat? Does Tomcat run through IIS or are they two completely different things and would it be a complete move from IIS to Tomcat? If so, where would one then manage all those things one normally does in IIS, like default documents and host headers etc? Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

• Active Directory Profile Slows down machine

  I have a strange issue with an Active Directory profile. When the user logs onto a machine with his profile, the whole machine becomes incredibly slow and unresponsive, with programs hanging and taking an age to load everything. If I log into the same machine with any other profile nothing happens. I took a look at his original profile, any start up programs, login scripts, etc and could not see what could be causing this. The machine is not running out of memory or CPU. Nothing strange is appearing in the event log and I can see nothing running under his profile which may cause this. So I created the user a new profile to test this on and exactly the same thing happens on the first login. The only thing which would of been carried across is the security groups the user is assigned to, yet I have other users with the same groups who do not experience these issues so I am now at a complete loss on where to go next!

  Hi, I'm writing a program to notify me of new email. It's mostly complete, I'm just working on the notifyicon code now. It's supposed to display the usual application icon with a box containing the count of unread emails inside it. I created icons for this in photoshop, exported them as 16x16 transparent PNGs, then converted them into windows ico files using ConvertIcon.com. Given that the image was 16x16 and the WinXP system tray uses 16x16 icons, I would assume the images would work. • Windows7 - Mouse not working, all windows + tray act like inactive

  I have this problem for two days now. First when it happened, logging out and back in helped, but now this occurs right after booting. I cannot activate any window by clicking into it, and also cannot minimalise, or close it with mouse. In few applications I cannot even interact with them with mouse (e.g. clicking on links in browser). I can scroll an active window with the trackball, and sometimes everything works normally for a little while. Everything works fine, when I use keyboard for this, I can resize, move, close windows with keyboard shortcuts, etc. I ran a complete Avast! scan, but it found nothing important. Also event viewer did not show any relevant errors. Here's a log from HijackThis if it helps anything.

  I recently upgraded from the previous LTS Ubuntu to Precise and now mysql refuses to start. • File sometimes doesn't download from my website

  When I attempt to download this file, sometimes it only downloads about 700KB (the file is 40MB) then I get the message that the download is complete. If I try to download the file again, it works properly. The problem seems prevalent in IE, although I've had it happen in Chrome sometimes too.   I have following problem – some of my files do not have complete ID3 tags and some have typos or small differences in writing - so finally, my portable player sees “Mr. President” as different artist from “Mr President” and so on. I would need some tool which could search similar tags and then allow me to correct the typos or for example override “artist” in all selected files by manually entered text. The same with empty tag items – sometimes, the track name, album etc. is OK, but artist is missing etc. Without touching the audio quality, of course (but this should be no problem, I think). I already tried tools in Winamp, Songbird and other players and currently most advanced free tool I tried is Tagscanner. However, it is not able to to solve the problem with similar tags. Do you know such tool? Preferably free and for Windows, if possible. However, if you know some commercial app able to do this, please let me know.

• FTP error when doing file transfer

  I'm running vsftpd version 3.0.2 over FTPeS, and I'm having a bit of trouble with file transfers. It seems to work fine when I'm on the LAN, but not from an external IP address. I have the control port and data ports open on my server's software firewall and my router's firewall. When I'm using the service from an external IP address, it seems like sometimes a file transfer will complete, but it times out and I always get the client error: "426 Failure writing network stream". I've tried several clients. I'm thinking there is some sort of data sabotage either at the router or some server policy; maybe because I'm using passive ftp? Suggestions?

• Need an alerting system if my cloning script fails

  I've configured a nightly rsync to mirror one server to a standby offsite backup server. The total datastore on the primary is 1.5TB. In the course of getting this working, I ran into numerous instabilities with the environment, which I seem to have sorted out, but even though it's now working, I am still nervous. This is intended to be a disaster-scenario standby server, and if disaster strikes and the standby does not have all the proper data synchronized, I'm out of a job. Thus, I want to script a system that will confirm, after each nightly sync, that the destination data matches the source. I realize that rsync does this, but if rsync doesn't complete fully (which was happening during the setup troubleshooting), I need to know. Any suggestions? I'm best with Ruby, if that is relevant for the solution.

  I'm trying to install Java 6 on Ubuntu 10.04 and it's been harder than it should be. In another question about installing Java on Ubuntu/Linux it said that I needed to do the following: sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner" However, that failed and I kept getting: sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found The solution to this, was to run: sudo apt-get install python-software-properties So, that seemed to work and the command above to "add-apt-repository" seems to complete with no errors. And I have run the following to confirm it got added. sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list But, now when I run the following: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre I get: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package sun-java6-jre has no installation candidate Where do I go from here?

But I didn't find a way to perform silent install/uninstall in Linux host. I had to click "I agree" or "Close" to make the installation continue or complete. If there has a Workstation installed, I can use vmware-installer -i path to installation file" --console --required to update the Workstation to a different version. • sharepoint 2007 access denied when accessing user profiles via ssp

  Guys I have a really strange problem in regards to sharepoint mysites today I go into user profiles and properties in order to setup a property all of a sudden I get access denied. First off I know that I'm logged in with the correct account after the access denied I decided to click on personalization services and permissions I than get An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Cannot complete this action. I'm not seeing anything in the server application logs either. So have any of you guys seen this before is there some kind of way to grant a user account the manage profiles right permission using stsadm. BTW all other fucntions of the ssp are working fine so my question is if the user profiles and my sites of a ssp tanks how do you repair that portion of the ssp? BTW the user accounts that I'm using are site collection owners and also they have full control at the web application level. • Can't reinstall Office 2010

  I had Office 2010 Professional Plus installed on my Windows 7 (32 bit machine), then I decided to remove it and install the 2013 version. I went to Programs and Features and removed the software as always, everything went successfully and it asked me to reboot the machine in order to complete the un-installation process, and when I clicked reboot a message suddenly appears telling me that an error occurred during un-installation and the system restarts instantly before I get a chance to see the error message. After that I tried to re-install Office 2010 but after the installer seems to have finished, it tells me that the installation failed without an explanations ? I have taken a look at the event viewer and there is some error saying the office protection platform service failed to start, could this have anything to do with the problem? What could be the cause, how can I fix this ?
