• Lightweight ad-blocker for firefox

  On a old machine (512 MB RAM) I am currently running ubuntu jaunty and firefox 3.0.15. I tried the ad blocker addon add block plus but it eats lots of RAM (300 MB). Is high memory load of this add-on a bug, which is fixed in a newer version or just normal? If so, why is the memory usage so high? Is there another ad blocker add-on for firefox or another browser- add-on combination for linux (ubuntu jaunty) which uses significant less RAM?

• Learn to use both sides of the keyboard

  I'd like to force myself to use the correct (right side or left side) Shift, Ctrl, and Alt keys depending on what letter I'm typing. For instance I'd like to use the right Shift key when typing 'A' and the left Shift key when typing 'P'. I find myself using only the left side a lot and I'm looking for a way to set the mappings on my machine so that it only responds to correct pairings. I'm running Fedora, but any Linux distro support would be an acceptable answer.

  I understood the interface file in linux needs to be edited and the corresponding lines added. I don't understand what network and broadcast are for, it seems extra versus a windows static ip configuration. • DNS for private network - should router be the DNS server?

  I want to set up BIND for a private subdomain on a private network, like in the question here: How to configure bind for a private subdomain? My question is this - should my (linux) router act as the DNS server for this? Or should I have a seperate machine on the network acting as the DNS server? Does it not matter as long as all the machines on the network are configured to resolve to the internal DNS server?

• ping preload is not permitted, what could be the reason?

  I am trying to ping one of my local host and checking CPU process to see how "Ping of death" attack behaves. I tried to ping my other PC which is in local network with 192.168.44.2 IP Address. I tried this, ping -l 5000 192.168.44.2 and I got error like this, ping: -l flag: Operation not permitted I am on MacOSX Lion. How can I remove this flag so machine can let me ping with preload?   I had installed jdk-6u18-windows-i586 on my machine. Later on I uninstalled it and installed jdk 1.5.0_13 instead. Now when I do javac -version I get jdk 1.5.0_13 But when I do java -version I get java version "1.6.0_19" How do I fix this?

  Here's my situation: On my network, most of the clients are on an outside router. Router 1 192.168.1.1 | | - Client | Router 2 192.168.1.2 to router 1, | 192.168.2.1 to clients within | Samba server - 192.168.2.25 I cannot figure out how to get clients under router 1 to access the Samba shares in router 2. I have forwarded ports 139 and 445 to the appropriate machine in router 2 but machines in router 1 still cannot access the server. How would I set this up?

  Is there a way to handle the LVM mounting password remotely? This is usually presented during boot on the main console (where the machine physically resides at). I am able to ssh in during the prompt, but other services (like http, ftp, etc) will not run until the password is succesfully entered in at boot. However, ssh does not show the same password prompt that master console shows. How do I enter the LVM password remotely on boot?

• git-daemon fails on VM suspend and resume

  I have Gitorious running on a Centos 5.3 install on a VMWare virtual machine under VMWare Server. Everytime we take down the server via suspend to back up the image, and resume the VM, the git-daemon dies. All my other processes continue to function without any problems, this one process dies and has to be manually be restarted. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, or how to make sure this process never dies off?

But after every 30-40 mins of log-on the system automatically logs-off the current user (closing all the applications, ofcourse).   Hi guys I am running subversion 1.4 on Centos 5.2 and my clients are using tortoise to do their check out, commit etc. I think I have permissions problems but I have configured the folder to accessible to everyone with 777 attribute but I seem not to be getting anywhere. Its generating this error on tortoise "svn: Can't open file 'PATH/TO/MY/FILES/entries': Permission denied". • [mac] Running an Automator task at night

  I've just created an Automator workflow and I'm using crontab to execute it at night. The problem is that, after a while, the machine is going to sleep and a password is required (this is the intended behaviour). Unfortunately, Automator seems to be unable to perform the task when the password is required. It works like a charm if the "password required" dialog is not displayed (before the sleep). Any suggestion on how to solve this?
