• Class member functions instantiated by traits

  I am reluctant to say I can't figure this out, but I can't figure this out. I've googled and searched Stack Overflow, and come up empty. The abstract, and possibly overly vague form of the question is, how can I use the traits-pattern to instantiate non-virtual member functions? The question came up while modernizing a set of multivariate function optimizers that I wrote more than 10 years ago. The optimizers all operate by selecting a straight-line path through the parameter space away from the current best point (the "update"), then finding a better point on that line (the "line search"), then testing for the "done" condition, and if not done, iterating. There are different methods for doing the update, the line-search, and conceivably for the done test, and other things. Mix and match. Different update formulae require different state-variable data. For example, the LMQN update requires a vector, and the BFGS update requires a matrix. If evaluating gradients is cheap, the line-search should do so. If not, it should use function evaluations only. Some methods require more accurate line-searches than others. Those are just some examples. The original version instantiates several of the combinations by means of virtual functions. Some traits are selected by setting mode bits that are tested at runtime. Yuck. It would be trivial to define the traits with #define's and the member functions with #ifdef's and macros. But that's so twenty years ago. It bugs me that I cannot figure out a whiz-bang modern way. If there were only one trait that varied, I could use the curiously recurring template pattern. But I see no way to extend that to arbitrary combinations of traits. I tried doing it using boost::enable_if, etc.. The specialized state information was easy. I managed to get the functions done, but only by resorting to non-friend external functions that have the this-pointer as a parameter. I never even figured out how to make the functions friends, much less member functions. The compiler (VC++ 2008) always complained that things didn't match. I would yell, "SFINAE, you moron!" but the moron is probably me. Perhaps tag-dispatch is the key. I haven't gotten very deeply into that. Surely it's possible, right? If so, what is best practice? UPDATE: Here's another try at explaining it. I want the user to be able to fill out an order (manifest) for a custom optimizer, something like ordering off of a Chinese menu - one from column A, one from column B, etc.. Waiter, from column A (updaters), I'll have the BFGS update with Cholesky-decompositon sauce. From column B (line-searchers), I'll have the cubic interpolation line-search with an eta of 0.4 and a rho of 1e-4, please. Etc... UPDATE: Okay, okay. Here's the playing-around that I've done.   Hello, I am starting to get a grip on RegEx thanks to all the great help here on SO with my other questions. But I am still suck on this one: My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); I am reading in a text file and I want to search for this text and change it (the X and Y value always follow each other in my text file): X17.8Y-1. • Change the get parameters in the address bar in jquery

  when you search on yelp, by adding additional search parameters the page does not reload. I think the results are changed based on ajax, however when you click on one of the restaruants and go back to the previous page. All of the parameters are still there. I noticed the address bars change as the parameters change. I found http://www.asual.com/jquery/address/ but it seems to add # at the end of the url. Is there a way to make it simply like index.php?xyz=1 without refreshing the page

  When my screen turns blank after 10 min or after locking the screen and I begin using the laptop again, the screen is flickering. It looks as if every second line of pixels is blinking and the flickering is mainly present in the upper part of the screen. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest binary Nvidia drivers (current-updates). lshw | grep VGA tells me: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2) The problem doesn’t occur after sleeping or on an external display. I used Kubuntu 11.10 before, where the problem didn’t occur either. Is there anything I can do except waiting for new drivers?

  i want to know the string matching algorithms used by Apache Lucene. i have been going through the index file format used by lucene given here. it seems that lucene stores all words occurring in the text as is with their frequency of occurrence in each document. but as far as i know that for efficient string matching it would need to preprocess the words occurring in the Documents. example: search for "iamrohitbanga is a user of stackoverflow" (use fuzzy matching) in some documents. it is possible that there is a document containing the string "rohit banga" to find that the substrings rohit and banga are present in the search string, it would use some efficient substring matching. i want to know which algorithm it is. also if it does some preprocessing which function call in the java api triggers it.

  Google will now parse certain microdata (for example reviews) on your web pages and display the info in search results. They call this Rich Snippets I am wondering is this page specific or domain specific? I keep all my reviews on a separate review page thats linked to from the home page. But my review page itself is very unlikely to be displayed in a search result, more likely to be displayed is my homepage or product landing page. But being that the review microdata is not on these pages (but is on the website). I am wondering if the rich snippets will be shown for these pages?

• NHibernate handling mutliple resultsets from a sp call

  I'm using a stored procedure to handle search on my site, it includes full text searching, relevance and paging. I also wanted it to return the total number of results that would have been returned, had paging not being there. So I've now got my SP returning 2 select statements, the search and just SELECT @totalResults. Is there any way I can get NHibernate to handle this? I'm currently accessing the ISession's connection, creating a command and executing the SP myself, and mapping the results. This isn't ideal, so I'm hoping I can get NH to handle this for me. Or if anyone has any other better ways of creating complicated searches etc with NH, I'd really like to hear it.

• Using SharePoint user profiles to build a company phone directory

  I'm working on a Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS Std) intranet implementation right now, and one of the things we'd like to do is replace the manually-maintained phone directory with the profile information we're importing from AD. People search is great, but I want to have a big page with all the names and phone numbers of the 150 or so people that work at the company (which means using the People Search webpart with a query hard-coded to return everyone won't work). A few quick searches haven't turned up anything, but this seems like a really common request. Can anyone help me out? I'm not opposed to buying a reasonably-priced webpart to solve this or writing some custom code, but both seem like they shouldn't be required for such a simple request.

• Working with DataBinding and Page_Load in ASP.NET MVP

  I'm using WebForms MVP to create some simple reporting applications. Most of these applications consist of a few search criteria inputs and a ComponentArt datagrid that I'm populating with data from the database. Most of the markup is in a UserControl, which is in a content page with a master page. My problem is that the control's Page_Load event is firing before the control events that caused the postback in the first place. Basically, the user clicks the search button, and Page_Load is fired BEFORE Search_Click. This is messing with the databinding scheme I've been using. So that's the question: Why is my Page_Load event firing before the event handler, and what can I do about it? I don't THINK this problem is related to WebForms MVP or ComponentArt, but obviously I could be wrong. Thanks.

If so my query looks like this: "q.alt=search*&hl=on" When I use the above query, highlighting doesn't work, and all the scores are "1.0". What am I doing wrong? is what I want possible without bypassing some of the really cool SOLR optimizations. cheers!

I'll use SO to ask my question because it's easier to ask it on something that you can see already, but it's not the same, it will just help me understand the right approach. As you can see, there are many questions here and each can have many answers. How should I store the answers in a table? Should I store all the answers in the SAME table with a unique id (make it the key) and just a new field for the question id? What if there are 100,000 answers like there is here? Do I still store them in 1 table? What keys should I use to minimize search time when I want to search for the answers of a specific question? The database is both read and write if that makes any difference in this case.

  I am attempting to scan a string of words and look for the presence of a particular word(case insensitive) in an XSLT 2.0 stylesheet using REGEX. I have a list of words that I wish to iterate over and determine whether or not they exist within a given string. I want to match on a word anywhere within the given text, but I do not want to match within a word (i.e. A search for foo should not match on "food" and a search for bar should not match on "rebar"). XSLT 2.0 REGEX does not have a word boundary(\b), so I need to replicate it as best I can.

• Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the shouldReloadTableForSearchString method when I enter

  I've been following Apple's TableSearch code example, but it's not working for me and I think I'm doing everything the same way they did it. The method below should be fired whenever the user types anything into the search box, but it never gets fired for me, just on the sample app. I have the appropriate @interface ContactsTableVC : UITableViewController { in the header file. I'm not sure what I'm missing or where else to look. My NSLog never gets called. • dbpedia auto-suggest labels

  Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

• XIB-instantiated Object's IBOutlet is nil

  I have a XIB set up like in this screenshot: File's owner is my main window controller. The XIB is also in charge of creating an object that serves as the delegate for the MGScopeBar view. As you can see in the screenshot, the scope bar delegate has an IBOutlet for the search field so that it can return it as an extra view as part of the delegate process. The problem I'm having is that when the delegate object is queried for the accessory view, the IBOutlet NSSearchField is nil. I'm fairly certain this has something to do with the order that objects are created, IBOutlets wired, etc, but I'm just a little lost as to where in the process I can expect the search field to exist so that the scope bar delegate can reference it properly. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

  I am trying here to do a manual translation for the application I am working with. (There is already a working LocalizationModule but it's working dodgy, so I can't use <asp:Localize /> tags. Normally with ResourceManager you are supposed to be using it as Namespace.Folder.Resourcename (in an application). Currently I am translating an existing asp.net "website" (not web application so no namespace here....). The resources are located into a folder name "Locales/resources" which contains "fr-ca.resx" and "en-us.resx".
